I'm really disappointed to be writing this review. I've been coming to this location for a few years, and I truly love the doctor. However, my experiences with the front desk staff have been consistently negative. I've had multiple interactions with the men and women at the front desk and they often come across as rude and uninterested in helping. When I call for follow-ups, I'm frequently placed on hold and then transferred, only to have to repeat my information multiple times. It turns a simple request into a frustrating process just to receive a basic service. Even in person, there's a noticeable lack of professionalism when you walk in. It's disappointing because it shouldn't feel this difficult to pay for and receive care. Times are hard, and people deserve to be treated with basic courtesy when they're spending their money. 10/10 service. A family member had cataract surgery on one eye and we needed one lens removed from a a pair of glasses. Carol was so helpful. She was able to pop the lens out quickly and redistribute the weight of the glasses so it didn't feel awkward wearing frames with one lens. All for free! Such amazing service! No one seems to know their job duties, especially dealing with federal government workers insurance. I paid for a field eye test because they claim it wasn't covered under my insurance plan. Come to find out. It was a covered benefit included in my federal eyecare plan, and guess what the clerk is telling me oh we're not gonna refund you your money or anything and it can't be refilled so I don't recommend this business or dealing with anybody at this location. I had to get my eyes checked because I'd failed the eye exam at motor vehicles. I'm very anxious when it comes to eye exams. However the young lady who did the initial evaluation was extremely kind & gentle & had the perfect bedside manner to handle my concern. Then I saw the optometrist. He was very thorough & even cracked jokes through the exam. He also gave me the good news that I don't need glasses & said they made a mistake at motor vehicles. He also said because he was signing their document to authorize his findings I wouldn't have to take the eye exam again. Everyone was extremely helpful in the office & there was only a very short wait until I began my appointment. I purchased glasses from here in October 2025. The first day I picked up my glasses I had an issue. I wasn't satisfied with my glasses. I asked for a refund I was turned down of course. Very impressive operation. It is really two businesses under one roof: the Dr. Hartz, the optometrist and For Eyes, the eyeglass retailer. Dr. Hartz is an independent optometrist. Some eyeglass retailers hire the optometrist and probably offer some type of incentive based on sales (though I don't know for sure). It seems that Dr. Hartz only concern is that you can see well and have good eye health. After the exam, he handed me a prescription for eyeglasses for my daughter, which he stressed were only needed for distance and were entirely optional. After getting the prescription, we were not handed off to someone trying to sell us something. We could have walked right out without being bothered. We were browsing the frames and my daughter tried a few pair on. A young man approached us and asked us if we were interested in purchasing glasses, conveniently right after my daughter decided on frames. He reviewed lens options without any sales pressure, took measurements and submitted our order. We were out in under an hour. We had an appointment but they accept walk-ins as well. I was impressed.and liked this much better than the competitor up the road that I used previously. read more

Dr. Hartz the optometrist is WONDERFUL - he's independent, and if you need a new prescription, book an appt with him. You won't be disappointed. The glasses sales people are TERRIBLE. I tried to get just a replacement pair for my last glasses. They overcharged me for a coating that i didn't want -- and then when the glasses arrived, they were the wrong prescription! THEN - i brought them back, and they were rude and refused to make any accommodations. Overall, terrible service. read more

How can the Dr be so amazing and the rest of the place terrible? I visited Mon, Aug 15th. The Dr is amazing!! A true, knowledgeable professional. It's a shame though, that Hartz works out of this establishment. Interesting thing is, he tells you, he has nothing to do with " the people up front." The girls at the desk are rude, the techs are rude, and as other reviewers pointed out, the sales staff is shady. Ask them TONS of questions, call your insurance before you go, so you can be armed with knowledge and know what your benefits are. While I think the Dr is great, I get my rx, and go elsewhere. If I'm spending $3-400 on my glasses and transitions, the attitudes should be nothing but professional. Not to mention, they upcharges on their limited selection of designer frames are ridiculous.So he wrote my rx on a paper and I put it in my purse. (I ordered frames online, still undecided if i'll bring them here for the rx). You're better off going on Nordstrom Rack or Ebay to get designer frames, then bring them to a reputable optical to put your rx in. One last note be very careful with their online booking! It's messy! You book it yourself, but then they end up taking walk ins. In my case, it was a whole family, and I was seen about an hour and half after my scheduled 2 pm. I asked Dr Hartz if he practices from any other location, but sadly, he does not. I would love to have a one-stop-shop, but in order to have this, they must first train the ENTIRE staff on the art of customer service, & salespeople need to act like they care.This establishes "trust." It's called "establishing a relationship" with the client! Once that is done, the client will come back every year with a smile. Then I will be more likely to check out their frames, rather than have to go elsewhere. Finally, get a better selection of frames. 2 years ago or so, they had a lot more designer frames, I went last week and some of the walls/displays were no longer glasses displays. read more

The doctor is really rude here ! I order my contacts and glasses from For eyes in Nottingham. I recently got new glasses and was not to comfortable with them so I asked this office for a trial . I had a hour drive so I was not comfortable with my glasses . When I get there I am told I have to ask the doctor. He is at the front desk . And says he has something to get me over which I was fine with. I have worked 6 years in optical myself and never saw a doctor hand a patient contacts in a contact lens case as if they were used already . So I ask if I could put them on and he says the room is on the right . When i open the case it seems they have been worn there is bits of trash in the case and I am literally in shock because how could you give someone this ? I ask him and he look annoyed and says i don't know what to tell you there's solution rinse them . I was so disturbed I just wanted to get home so I rinse it and put it as soon as I did my eye burned I took it off so quick ! And he kept ignoring me and then he comes out of no where and says I can give you this as if he was just randomly guessing on what to give me as if he never reviewed my record of what I use . I explained to him what I used and I wasn't there to start problems I was just hoping someone would help . I can imagine how he must treat patients that have no idea of the contacts. read more

The doctor took me for a walk-in eye appointment on a Thursday afternoon, and I think he did a great job with my prescription for contacts and glasses. I ordered glasses after my appointment, and the sales clerk spent a lot of time with me trying different frames and discussing the options. They don't have many designer options, but I only wear my glasses at home (I mainly wear contact lenses), so I was just looking for something functional and low-priced. My glasses were reasonably priced, fit very comfortably so far, and although they came in a day late, that wasn't an issue to me. read more

He is a thorough, friendly doctor and the staff that we dealt with were great and appeared to love theor jobs and love interacting with customers (and with customers' kids in our case since we showed up with three kids along for the ride). Once signing in, and waiting for the eye exam, which took under 7 minutes, I then waited to order additional contact lenses. sales Representative, Chimere went far and beyond to assure I got the best deal my insurance had to offer. She even called before I got home to let me know what my additional insurance covered. I've been here before and had a great experience with everyone. This time was above and beyond so I had to right a review. My son had broke his glasses I called to just purchase the same pair again expecting to pay a decent amount of money for them. But found out the glasses were no longer available online and the store did not have any in stock. Les is wonderful he was able to check another store and found a pair, they shipped it to his store. He just popped the lenses out of the broken glasses since they were undamaged and put them in the new frames. So I didn't have to worry about the cost of both the lenses and the frames. I've read the negative reviews about this location and it saddens me. I give For Eyes 5 stars!!! I personally do not purchase from them simply because I do not need glasses or contacts, but whenever I go with my mother and younger brother, the staff treats them so nice. Usually they have their own prescriptions which makes it a faster process (?) but it's never that long of a wait. Someone usually just tells them to start searching for frames and if they need help deciding they'll be right over. They keep to their word, the part that takes the longest is the choosing of the frame which my mom takes forever doing. But the Hispanic woman took her time with us, offered her a few options and VICTORY! We were out of their in about 45 minutes. And that's for both my mom and brother. The last time I was in with my brother to pick his glasses up a younger girl with a curly afro helped us. I won't lie I was in a bad mood already before walking in the door so I may have came off as harsh but she somehow lightened my mood. All she did was smile. It was pleasant. And I believe her mom, the smaller lady with blonde hair was there too. I can see why they're working there, they are both very friendly! She did a wonderful job guiding and advising me and letting me know what different types of lenses, eg progressive, reading, bi-focal, etc. were used for. Due to the excellent information and patience she showed me, I was able make a decision on what types of lense would be good for me. She also was very helpful helping me choose the right eyeglass frame and told me which would not be good on my face and which would be. I really appreciated it. I went to this branch of For Eyes a few weeks ago to get both an eye exam and a new pair of frames. To make a long story short: It was the most pleasant, easiest experience I've had shopping for glasses and getting an exam in a long time. The eye exam was fairly standard, although there is quite a bit of new technology present that can check for very specific eye diseases and such that cost a bit extra. The exam room was clean, modern, quiet, and comfortable. The doc was a nice guy who did not keep me waiting very long and completed the exam in short order. Then, it was on to purchase frames! First, something you should know about me: I'm extremely picky. I have been known to go to Sears Optical up to 4 times after my exams there just so I could prolong my decision-making process. When I went to the glasses showroom at For Eyes, a helpful staff member gave me a basic tour of the sections/type of glasses available and then left me alone. For an hour and a half. The sales people were constantly around and mingling with customers, but I told them I would come up to them when I was ready, and they respected that request! I loved it! No pressuring me. No hurrying me along. And zero commentary ("now those are a handsome pair of frames!")-- I hate that. Let me take my time and choose from the (very large, by the way) selection and walk away feeling satisfied and confident. After 2 hours, I was ready to buy. The salesperson was very helpful and even helped me change my frames at the last minute because the ones I had chosen were slightly too small for my face. When he got a larger size, I was even more happy with the frames. He was right! The payment processing was simple and easy, and only 3 days later, the glasses were ready for pickup. I went in to get them adjusted (for free) once, and asked them for additional copies of my prescription and receipt once without there ever being a problem. I said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm extremely picky. But this For Eyes had the selection, the competent staff, and the modern and comfortable atmosphere that makes for a great medical/shopping experience. read more

Most unpleasant experience I've ever had with an optician. First I got a new prescription. I'm getting to the age where lenses can't correct both near and far without bifocals and I know this. The optometrist started talking to me like he was expecting me to get all upset, like I was a child. I kept trying to tell him I understand all that but he wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise. Then I went to the front desk and the saleslady did the same babytalk with me, even though I hadn't said anything yet except asking about how long a lense coating lasts. It was very odd. I finally got through to her to talk to me like an adult when I pulled out the cleaning cloth to show I am indeed cleaning the lenses properly. She did, however, tell me about a coupon on the website that I didn't know about, hence increased to two stars. Anyway, the stem of the glasses came off after just two months. I went back and was told that since I hadn't paid for a very expensive warranty, they couldn't fix the glasses. She did, however, put some superglue on the stem. It wasn't wearable afterwards but at least she tried (so again increase to two stars). Anyway, not going back. -------- Update - company representatives apparently read the review, offered an apology, and arranged for replacement frames. Thanks! read more

I just got off the phone with one of the sales associates inquiring about sports straps for eyeglasses. The woman was very nice and helpful, but I felt like she was rushing to end the conversation, probably because that particular item is not available in their stores. She was talking way too fast for me to understand and kept giving cues she was about to end the call before I could barely get a word in. At the end of the call, she didn't bother to ask something like, "Is there anything else I can assist you with today". It felt way too rushed. They need to work on their customer service a bit. Another time, not too long ago, I ordered contacts and noticed later on that the "left" and "right" stickers were put on the wrong prescription boxes. So, for a brief time, I had been wearing my contacts in the wrong eyes. That's quite negligent on their part. I don't see what's so hard about labeling the boxes correctly. Other than these two incidents, I don't recall any other major issues. The doctors and staff are very friendly, helpful, make my visits comfortable, and are happy to answer any question I have. read more

After ordering contacts with him in Nov '10 and waiting until Jan '11 to get them, never getting them and then canceling the order he still kept my insurance payment. Here we are in October '11 and I'm still fighting him to get the claim issued back to the insurance company so I can actually get contacts without paying out of pocket. WOW! Dr. Hartz is amazing. I went in for a glasses & contacts exam...and let me tell you...he is great! I'd been to other places and they could never get it right. I have astigmatism and Dr. Hartz took the extra time to make sure he got my prescription right on! He was so kind and thorough and PATIENT with me to make sure I was happy. During my appointment, he gave me a pair of contacts to try. 5 star service, 5 star expertise! Very friendly too. You can tell he cares and really wants to make sure he gets it right so you're happy! I highly recommend him. In the store, Rob was the guy who helped me with my frames and ordering and stuff. He is really friendly and has a lot of experience too. I ended up getting a pair of new frames from them, and I also brought in my old frames to get the new lenses in those too. If they have any good deals, Rob will let you know about them. Dr Hartz is great! Very professional, keeps a clean environment, and so friendly! He really is such a personable guy. His assistant, Jasmine (I think her name was) was really friendly and helpful as well. I came in as a walkin on a Monday afternoon. I didn't have to wait long at all. I had problems later with my right eye contact and was able to see Dr. Hartz in the same day to fix it. I would've given 5 stars if they had a little bit more of a selection of designer Frames. I visited this location for two reasons, my younger brother recent purchased some glasses and I had a great experience with the For Eyes brand about 4+ years ago when I purchased some glasses from a location in Miami Beach, FL. Upon entering the location on the 4th of September I was not greeted or acknowledged by a single employee. It took 15 minutes for someone to say a word to me and that was after I made the initial effort to ask a question. The associate who I asked the question was a black female, ( I don't remember her name) in her 40's possibly who was not helpful and gave me a vibe which made me assume she was being bothered by me instead of being eager to help. Don't waste your time. I was told that it would only take a couple of days to order frames in the color that I wanted. After not hearing back from anyone after a week, I was pretty much told that they had forgotten to place the order. I was assured that the order would be faxed and I would get a call in two days. Three days passed no call. I called the store, was told that they show no record of the order. Totally unprofessonal place. They are really bad about calling customers back. Every time I have been treated with speed, courtesy and professionalism. Price is fair. I had glasses made at the store in Greenbelt. When I picked them up I could not see out of them. The store manager, Carla, came to my assistance. She looked up my records because I have been coming to this store for years & discovered there was a major change in my prescription. She rechecked my prescription with the glasses & they were correctly made to order. She suggested that I get my eyes recheck by my doctor & return to the store with a new prescription. My doctor had made a mistake with the prescription. I went back to Carla, who reorder the glasses. I am very grateful for her assistance. She was very helpful, kind & knowledgeable. Her caring & professionalism is very refreshing in today's times. It was more of a pleasure going to the store because of her.
