I was seen with in 5 or so minutes of being there, that in of itself was impressive. But the staff were just amazing, from the gentleman who greeted me at the front desk, to the young lady who prepped me to see the doctor, and finally the doctor himself, it was a wonderful experience. Also, the lady that helped me pick out my frames and walked me through the whole process of how I would get my new glasses, was very helpful and kind as well. She's quite the salesperson, talked me into some new Oakley eyeglasses, lol! I am fairly new to the area, but not new to NC. I moved back to NC from TX late last year, after being out of state for 15 years. I've been getting all my ducks in a row, new driver's license and what not, and also lining up new doctors, dentist, ect...; so I say all that to say, my first experience with a new doctor, your doctor, was very, very positive. This is the only eye doctor office I have been to so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I would still say it's a good office. I never wait too long,the staff is kind and helpful, and it is clean. I see Dr. Donna Hillsgrove and she is great. She is helpful, not dismissive, and easy to talk to. Also, they have fair prices. I usually order my contacts through 1-800 Contacts, but they price matched them so I just bought my contacts through the office. The only downside is having to go back to the office to pick them up, but they not only price match 1-800 contacts, but all contact delivery services to get you the best price. I would recommend this office to anyone. read more

Great in-person service, but longgggg wait for glasses. The staff was welcoming, efficient, and seemed well skilled. I was surprised to learn I would need a new prescription when my existing one was only a couple of years old, but the person who did the exam was pleasant and the exam didn't take very long. I was quoted a wait of 7-10 days because I have a complicated prescription, but the glasses actually took almost four weeks. That said, the fitting and paperwork went smoothly and I love my new glasses. read more

WOW! This place was a lifesaver!! While we were visiting from out of state for a funeral, my Dad accidentally set his eye glasses case on the bumper of the vehicle and we drove off. The glasses fell off and got ran over by a car a moment before I could get out to save them. The case was smashed but it saved the lenses from being smashed. This was the first glasses place we found. This team of absolutely wonderful people here jumped right in to help perform plastic surgery on these frames. With pliers, glue, a heat gun and some elbow grease the glasses are "wearable" until we can get them back home. THANK YOU FOR SAVING THE DAY MYEyeDr.!! read more

I was told my glasses would be in about a week after my appt, and i did not hear from them. after two weeks, I called, and they said they would be in on Saturday, but they would not be open, so i could pick up on Monday. Never heard from them, so I called on Monday to confirm, and they verified that the glasses were indeed there. Before I could leave my office, they called me (the ONLY time they ever called me) to ask me if I had already picked up my glasses. Mind you, it was only about 20 minutes after I had called them. When i stated no, I had not, they said that they couldn't find them, probably gave them to someone else by accident, and they would have to reorder. Never called me to let me know. 4-6 weeks after the initial order, i called and they said they were finally there. I picked them up, had them for about 2 weeks, wore them sparingly, trying to get used to the prescription. As I was walking into a grocery store, the right lense popped out suddenly, and i did the juggle trying to catch it before it fell to the pavement, scratching the front of the lense. I immediately turned around and drove directly to My Eye Doctor, where i was told to have a seat while one woman finished eating her chicken sandwich as she walked around from office to office, and the receptionist kept popping Cheese Puffs into her mouth. Sandwich lady then came out and very loudly kept repeating that they could not fix the lense because i had not bought the warranty, embarrassing me with other people in the showroom. This lense popped out due to poor workmanship. Then she picks up the glasses, and tells me she is going to try to pop the lense back in, leaving me there. I grew very angry, and decided to just leave before i said anything. This was last week, and i have not heard from them about my glasses, whether they are done, fixable, or thrown away. This is truly one of the poorest acts of customer service i have encountered in a very long time read more

I went to My Eye Dr. for the first time this week. I just moved to the area and I was looking for a place with the same convenience and affordability as America's Best, which is where I used to go. I was able to get an appointment after regular business hours, I didn't have to wait long when I arrived, the doctor was nice and explained everything very thoroughly, they made sure I could take my contacts in and out before I left (because I had never tried contacts before), and I got a free pair of sunglasses. I actually liked it BETTER than America's best because the doctor went through the photos of my eyes with me and showed me why they were healthy. I will come back.! read more

This place is the worst. The people who worked there were super friendly, but here is my journey with them for the past 2 months: - The eye doctor who examined me sent me biweekly contacts even though I physically showed him the ones I have, which are dailies - I took them back to return them to get dailies, and the people at the office made me get there in 10 minutes to exchange the contacts for the only dailies they had, which were trial pairs, before they closed - Meanwhile, nobody had ordered me the new, correct contacts, so once I was out of the trials dailies, they said the contacts were "on backorder" when in reality no one had put in the order - I was told I'd have them by YESTERDAY, which is legit 2 months after I went in for my exam. - 2 months later, I still have no contacts and ended up having my prescription sent to an outside office and got them in a few days So, yeah, this place is the worst. As we selected options for the two pairs, she never went through the checklist of what I wanted. She put insurance on both pairs without even asking. I have "Davis Vision" Insurance and didn't realize that they stipulize (or perhaps provide) their own frames. As you know, even with insurance glasses are rather expensive. One of my lenses fell out shortly after I got my new glasses. My Eye Dr. staff fixed it. The next week the same lens fell out. I've been wearing glasses for about 60 years and this had never happened before. I was really disappointed. Bottom line: My Eye Dr. replaced the sub-standard Davis Vision glasses with one of their own frames (which I think is more attractive) at no cost. I have used this practice for many years and certainly will continue. read more

I have gone to this place off and on for years, a pretty solid choice I would say. I came back after LensCrafters pissed me off enough that I walked out of one vowing never to go back. Maybe it was just that one - the one at South Point Mall. I need to rip them up in a separate review. Anyway I wouldn't recommend either establishment for super hip/fancy eyewear. For example, I bought a couple pairs of really nice frames in Europe that were quite large and square and ECA couldn't put prescription lenses in them for me, I had to go to a more high end shop drop some real $$$. But this last experience at ECA was good, I am a pretty demanding customer and they were able to roll with me the whole time. They did some prescription sunglasses lenses for me (for glasses that I bought somewhere else) through the company that made the glasses, and when my original lenses weren't returned they went out of their way to replace them for me, despite the company telling them that it wasn't their policy to return them (What? That's stupid considering the bulk cost of the frames I bought would most definitely be the lenses.) They also spent a lot of time with me picking out the specific tint, etc. I wanted. They didn't come out looking exactly how I expected them to, but I have gotten used to them and I like them quite a bit. So, shout out to Caroline for getting me some replacement lenses, and everyone at ECA for being consistently on top of things. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone with a large bankroll who takes themselves overly seriously and wants some really trendy frames, but they are a decent shop and I would tell a friend to go there and I also often go to them for eye exams: they take insurance and seem to know what they are doing. I'd probably give them 3 stars, but their customer service makes them a 4. They are super nice and will call you to keep you posted or let you know your order is ready. read more

I was highly impressed with my entire experience here. I had to find a new eye doctor due to a change in insurance companies (and my lack of wanting to file on my own) and found Eye Care Associates! They have many locations but the one on Raleigh Road was the closest. I called and they had appointments starting the next day. The location is in a strip mall type place but the sign is largest enough that it immediately catches your eye. When you walk in the waiting room/lobby is inviting, with a coat rack and a coffee/water station. The receptionist was personable and friendly and carried on a conversation with me as I got checked in. I saw Dr. Hillsgrove and really liked her. She was down to earth and spent several minutes chatting with me and getting to know me before jumping into the eye exam. I will be going back here for all my eye care needs in the future! They do have services to order glasses from them but I didn't need them this visit! They did however order my contacts for me and said they would be in in several days! read more

I had my annual eye exam here about 2 months ago, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the doctors and staff. My appointment was at 2, and much to my surprised, they called me back for my exam 5 minutes early. It was the first doctor's office I've been to in a while that wasn't running at least 15 minutes behind. The technician conducted my exam quickly, and the optometrist came in to double check the results. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes and couldn't have been happier. read more

Deciding to go to MyEyeDr was based mainly on what our insurance covers, but I'm definitely staying far away I'm the future. In May, I came in to get an updated prescription and a new pair of glasses. The staff in the actual vision checkup part, like the doctor, were all great. While I was looking for glasses, the people working here only showed me the most expensive frames-upwards of $300 each. Fine, whatever, most places try to upsell. I was a little concerned that the frame I decided on (after a great deal of encouragement from the staff) would be too loose and not fit properly, but they told me they would make them fit. Flash forward to picking up the glasses. The frames would not stay on my head. Today I went in for another adjustment-at least the fourth since June-as the frames again were falling off. The staff were extremely impolite and didn't even really fix my problem, telling me that because I have plastic frames, they couldn't do much to fix it. Even though it was their assurement that the frames fit that caused me to pick them. I'm extremely upset, because the frames were expensive, and it seems a waste of my money. I wish the staff or anyone here would do something to actually fix my issue. Please stay away from this store! read more

Dr. Hillsgrove is simply spectacular! She is friendly, listens to my concerns, always gives me 100% of her attention while I am there. The front office staff are also first class-they even printed out my insurance card for me! I have been seeing Dr. Hillsgrove for about 5 years now, and I always leave the office feeling that my eye exam was thorough, the advice I was given was thoughtful and complete, and that the staff went out of their way to make my experience a good one. Let me start off this review by saying Dr. Hillsgrove is great and the 1 star does not reflect on her. I have been going to this specific eye doctor for over 8 years now. My exams always run smoothly and Dr. Hillsgrove is very professional and nice. My problem with this establishment is the paying and insurance process. At my latest appointment I was told that the price for my contacts for 6 months was $90, I then told the front desk that I would need to call back and order later that week after I assess my options. I called 2 days later and was told the price for my contacts was $200 due to the fact that my insurance had to be used the day of my appointment. I was not informed of this during my appointment. This is not the first time I have run into an issue with pricing at myeyedoctor. If you end up going to this place always write down the prices they tell you versus charging you and look into the reasoning for certain pricing. They just want your money. read more

I purchased my eyeglasses here as they were convenient and take VSP insurance, however I has my eyes exam at an opthamologist elsewhere. To be frank, the experience was below average to poor. I knew exactly what I wanted in eyeglasses so that part was straightforward to order. The poor service was on the pickup process. 1) no one ever called me to say my glasses had arrived at the store, I had to call twice to find that out (every other optician I have ever been to has called me when my glasses came in to the store). 2) When I arrived on Monday the 4th at 9:15a and asked to pick up my glasses, the person behind the counter asked me my name, retrieved the glasses and put them into a bag, and just dropped the bag on the table and said "here" and walked away. I was not given an opportunity to try them on or test the fitting. I told her I wanted to try them on first but she did not seem to care at all. With poor service like this I will definitely be looking around to the dozens of other alternative opticians next time. Stay away from this place if you expect service or an even minimally acceptable customer experience read more

I was impressed. I have never had an eye exam done before. I called and MyEyeDr was able to schedule me for an appt one hour later. The staff was very pleasant. However, I felt like the provider was a little rushed, maybe because she had a full schedule. She talked very fast but very upbeat and fun. I was unimpressed with the prices of eyeglasses. I was able to find the same glasses and many other selections for 40% cheaper elsewhere and online. I will be returning for my eye exams, but not to buy glasses. read more

I would avoid at all costs! They are good when everything goes smoothly but once something messes up you see the flaws in the administration and response. Quick synopsis if you don't want to read the whole thing: 1.5 years after my prescription I still haven't received the contacts that I paid for or the refund of those contacts I requested. Here's the whole story.... I originally went because of allergies. They were quick to respond and helpful before sending me on my way. The next time I went for contacts (July). The appointment went smoothly and the doctor seemed helpful. When ordering the prescription they told me that if I preordered them, I would receive a discount (which I desperately needed since the prescription was unique and needed to be specially made). When the trial pair came in (about 2-3 weeks), I came in to test them out. I couldn't read 72 pt. font 3 feet away. I don't know what happened with the prescription, but those working were helpful in getting me an appointment right then and a new prescription. ...This is where everything went wrong. 2 weeks later they had my trial pair in. I tired them on and confirmed the prescription (or so I thought) and told them to go ahead and order the year supply. The prescription was no longer 'specialty contacts' so I also was going to need a refund from over paying at the first appointment. It never happened. I waited and waited for the contacts to come in. By now it was during the holidays so I was busy and assumed they would be as well. Finally in January I called. The contacts had never been ordered. It had already been 6 months from my original appointment. Apparently the prescription had never been finalized. I told them to process it and then order the contacts. March or April: I called again. The contacts still hadn't been ordered. The lady I talked to was helpful and said that the contacts would be ordered. Two weeks later they were in. I went to pick them up (after receiving a phone call) and was told that they weren't in after waiting for 30 minutes. An hour later I received a call and was told that they found them. I went in the following day and low and behold they had only ordered a trial pair. I told those working the desk that they were suppose to have been a year supply. They looked at my prescription and once again the prescription had not been finalized....6 months after the second prescription had been made! What was worse was their records had not noted all of the times that I had talked to them. The desk told me to take the trial pair and they would address the issues. Later that day I received a call from the manager. She told me that they could order the year supply but would only order a 6 month supply and supplement with a few trial pairs. I didn't understand why I wouldn't get a full year supply. She said that since I had received "so many trial pairs" they would subtract that amount from my year supply. Let's count my trial pairs. 1. original prescription that I couldn't see farther than 3 feet which were immediately thrown away 2. Trial pair for the second prescription that I could not get finalized 3. Trial pair that was wrongly ordered instead of my year supply and was told by the staff to take them as compensation. That's it. 3 trial pair (1 fail, 1 used and 1 still packaged sitting on my desk) over a 8 month period of trying to order my year supply. Now I'm being told that I'm going to be punished by receiving less contacts then I paid for. In addition I still hadn't received a refund for over paying for the first pair. I mentioned this and all the manager said was that she'd have to look into it. She said that she would need to get the prescription finalized and then would be able to process it. The next day I went in and asked for a refund. i worked with the same manager. She said she'd be able to get the prescription finalized in a week and then the refund would be processed. Also note that I brought back the trial pair completely unopened that they had given me the day before. Three weeks later I still had not received the refund. I called the front desk and they told me they were in between management and they would have a manager call when they got a new one. Never received a call. Was contact in July....a full year after the first appointment,,,,to schedule an appointment because my prescription was about to expire. I was shocked that though the prescription wasn't created until Sept/Oct and finalized the following April it would still expire in July. I had no way to order contact though MYEYEDOCTOR or another entity because they wouldn't finalize my prescription! During the call I said that I would not becoming in for an appointment and explained my situation. They said I would be contacted by their manager. I never was. Another call and another promise. Still I have not been called and I'm tired. I don't expect to ever receive a refund and I will never go back or recommend ever. read more

We like Dr. Hillgroves just fine. I do not trust the staff. You have to really know your insurance coverage. We ended up paying for the retinal photo that insurance does not cover or higher price for contact lenses and sometimes both especially when I am not with my teens every minute the entire visit. We came for the past several years because every year I thought I finally know enough to avoid extra services. Alas- we paid $40 for the unnecessary eye photo today, because my daughter was in the room by herself and said she has no questions, which apparently is permission for uncovered services. If you are willing to pay for all the extras then the staff is friendly, if you some how managed to only pay what is covered then don't expect friendly services. Paperwork and transfer of my records was easy, exam was at a convenient time and location, and everyone was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. They took the time to answer my questions along the way. Excellent, excellent service from Dr. Hillsgrove and her technicians.The eyeglasses expert was very helpful with suggestions for caring for my new transition-progressive lenses. Went in for my annual exam this morning, which has been scheduled for 1 year. Got 3 voicemails, and several texts and emails confirming the appointment. The receptionist informed me upon my arrival that my appointment had not been confirmed (which I had, via text, when prompted by one of their MANY messages), and that my appointment had been given away. Completely unacceptable and waste of time - not only in my schedule today, but now need to find a new eye doctor. read more

I just started paying for vision because I was worried about my eyesight. The store in Chapel Hill was available to make an appointment the next day, and overall I had a great experience getting my glasses (my first pair). Everyone was nice, and it really didn't take long at all. They did all necessary test to make sure I had no additional problems besides my astigmatism. I received my pair of glasses a little under 1.5 weeks, but I did have to call them a few times to make sure it was there. I did have to show them my insurance because the one I had they didn't pull up correctly. Could've just been an overlook, but if I didn't show them, I wouldn't had got the glasses I have today because they were more expensive. read more
