For the most part, the Eye Care Center is indistinguishable from a LensCrafters or something like that once you're inside it. All of the furnishings and products are the same, and even the layout of optometrists places must be regulated by that same dark guild. The service is really what shines here. I dealt with three separate people just in the process of trying to get information about eye exams and contact lenses, and every one was extremely helpful, speedy, and friendly. It's a welcome breath of fresh air after the terror that some eye doctors can wreak on you. They didn't even attempt to hide any of the normally-hidden fees that these places normally go with. This was my second and last visit to Eye Care Center. I was extremely disappointed. After my exam fro Dr Whitacre I asked for my PD number - this is the pupillary distance number that is needed to purchase a pair of glasses. She flat out refused to do it. She said they would give me an "estimate" or measure it off my old glasses. The only way they would measure my PD was if I was buying glasses from them. The idea that an eye care provider would actively refuse to help a patient get the best care hits me the wrong way. The idea that the only way they will give you the most accurate prescription is if you buy from them is wrong. I will not support this business and I hope that you would look elsewhere as well. read more

Not only is the service excellent on the sales side but I am beyond impressed with medical side as well. I hesitated going because of their link to a larger company but the service I received was like my old eye docs from growing up in the 70's. Personalized, careful and caring. Recently, I broke my favorite Prada glasses and took them to the Eye Care Center in hopes that they could repair them. Unfortunately, they were damaged beyond fixing. I needed an eye exam anyway, so I inquired about when I could get an appointment. Even though her technician was at lunch, Dr. Tompkins agreed to examine my eyes right away. She was quick, thorough, and pleasant. Her receptionist took care of all my insurance paperwork quickly. After my exam, two staff members spent over an hour assisting me while I tried on practically every pair of frames in the shop. I settled on a super cute pair of Fysh frames, and my glasses were ready for pick up in a few days. I couldn't be happier with my experience. read more

Sales associates were great! I got glasses from Warby Parker that have been sliding off my face and really bothering me for months. I thought I'd have to order new frame parts to make it fit my face/curve around my ear, but the associate reshaped them to fit around my ears on the spot AND cleaned the lenses. And they didn't end up charging me anything. I'm super grateful because they fit perfectly now and I no longer have to push them up my face every minute or so. read more

The staff at Eye Care Center is extremely friendly and efficient. They accept almost every insurance, and they are relatively inexpensive as well. Any orders come in fast, whether it be contacts or lenses. You can walk in at any time, as they don't require appointments, and are more than happy to help you out. While visiting our son and his family, I noticed new "floaties" in my left eye. To be sure it was nothing serious, I made an appointment with the optometrist 2 days ago. I asked the scheduler a few times how much the charge would be and said I would be paying cash because my insurance would not cover the appointment. Each time she responded she didn't know because it was a limited service visit. After my appointment, I was charged $175. I believe any fair minded consumer would consider this an excessive charge for a limited service visit. I anticipated a charge of about $100 or so at the high end and would have simply paid it. When I asked that the charge be reviewed for accuracy, a staff member response clearly inferred I was done a favor by being charged the lowest amount possible. Needless to say, I will not be using any goods and services from this provider and I cannot recommend it to anyone in the area. . read more

I got my glasses here about 8 months ago, and I've been really happy with them. They offer a student discount, which is so great since I had to pay for them out of pocket. Today I went in for an eye exam and to get my contacts updated and I could not have been happier. I was a bit apprehensive since I've only ever been to one optometrist my whole life, but I had nothing to worry about. Everyone was SO nice. Both the technician and the doctor walked me through everything, explained what all the machines did, what they were checking for, etc (e.g. "We're checking your retina; making sure you doing have glaucoma; checking your distance and peripheral vision; making sure everything dilates correctly; etc etc). Which, in retrospect, is nice because I've always wondered what my doctor was doing when he was shining all those bright lights in my eyes at different angles... The check up was extremely thorough, but still quick since I didn't spend a lot of time waiting around. I was in and out in less than an hour with new contacts ordered, and at a good price (again, student discount since my insurance didn't cover all of it!). I wish I had started coming here freshman year instead of waiting for breaks to go home and update my contact prescriptions. Its location in university square makes it really convenient for car-less students like me to get to, and I didn't have to worry about traffic. I am so happy with my contacts, and so impressed with my experience. I will definitely be back if I ever need another pair of glasses, or another eye exam. read more

I wish I could say I had the same positive experience dealing with this Eye Care Center location. My optometrist visit was efficient and the technicians were friendly enough. This place accepts my insurance, so I only had to pay a co-pay and I got a discount on my lenses & frames. The salesman who assisted me with picking out my frames was helpful and patient (which is important in an eyeglass shop), even though I found their selection to be terribly uninspiring and I'll probably end up ordering a better set of frames online. My main problem is the salesperson told me it would be 4-6 business days until my glasses were delivered - this seemed perfectly reasonable and consistent with my previous experience in ordering glasses. When I called the shop the following week (6 business days later) to check on my order, the receptionist told me "it usually takes the full 10 business days for them to get here." Two weeks for glasses?!? In my case it wasn't an emergency, but what about folks who can't see without their glasses and needed replacements? Crazy. It's been exactly 12 business days since I placed my order and I just called to see if my glasses were delivered, and the receptionist told me they arrived two days ago. I asked her if they were going to bother to notify me that my order - that's been paid in full for over two weeks - had arrived and she said they'd been busy. Terrific. Talking to me in a syrupy-saccharine voice does not good customer service make. I'm work in sales myself, and if I'd been sitting on a paid order for two business days, my customers would chew me out. I will be telling all of my coworkers (70% of whom wear glasses) and anyone else who asks for a recommendation around town to avoid this place...they'd be better off going to LensCrafters, which is saying a lot.
