When my last optometrist dropped the insurance I carry, I was not looking forward to having to try to establish care somewhere else but this place made it seamless and easy. They take more insurance plans than most places in this area and their provide exceptional care It took a few weeks to get in but the exam and fittings are a well-oiled machine with the doctor doing all the testing and exam instead of a tech which was nice. Dr. Sykes is very personable and attentive. He was able to find the right type of contact lens for reading and distance so I don't have to wear my wear my readers on the top of my head anymore. My husband goes here as well and they were very patient with teaching him how to use contact lenses. I like that it's smaller and patient-focused-not like the huge doc in a box places. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a place for all your eye care needs. read more

I had an older pair of eyeglasses that needed a new stem. Due to pandemic restrictions, I was asked to leave them in the dropbox right outside the door. Within an hour I received a call that the repair was complete and the glasses were ready to be picked up. Not only was the repair prompt (and a lifesaver), it was free of charge. Based on this experience with Chapel Hill Eyecare, I would say that they are an excellent member of the local business community and I will definitely consider them for any future vision care needs. read more

My vision in my right eye started declining. We t to Chapel Hill Eye. I got new glasses. However after a month or so they weren't working. Went back, did a bunch of tests, and was diagnosed w virtuous detachment. Told it would go away in a month. And to come back and get a new prescription. Went back. Still had it. Told to come back. Long story short I went back 4 times, paying $300 a visit, only to be told it wasn't done yet. Vision declining. Talked to a Duke eye dr friend. She told me to go see an ophthalmologist at Duke. He ran some tests. Said yes I have vitreous detachment, but the problem is that I have cataracts!! So basically I wasted a year, and lost about $1200. So either they are incompetent or corrupt. read more

I was a little worried when I first started talking to these people, since the woman at the desk clearly had no idea what services they offered, or anything else, for that matter. She and I floundered at the desk for a minute or two, me trying to arrange an appointment and whatnot and her struggling to get oxygen to her brain. Fortunately she managed to summon help in the form of a woman who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I say that just to warn you that you might miss on one of their newer employees, but the staff for the most part is excellent. Their prices, too, are much cheaper than comparable optometrists in the area. I have to go in for exams and contact lens fittings a lot, and these guys are my new go-to place. read more

You do not have to get dilated at Chapel Hill Eyecare because they have a machine that images your eye's structure and captures image; a huge benefit. Dr. Sikes made me feel comfortable. My prescription is perfect. Phillip, who fits the glasses, is extremely knowledgeable about lenses and materials, and can tell you why some lenses provide you 360-degree vision where others, although technically accurate, leave you with blurry vision. I've been Dr. Sikes client since last year and I've to say, he's one of the best! Extremely professional and knows his craft very well. Recently, I took my son and daughter to get their eyes checked (annual eyes checkups) and we have been treated very well from start to finish. The staff is extremely helpful in every way (from the front desk (Melisa & Erin) to the rest of the staff) and we're truly satisfied with the services we've been given. I agree that they are all very nice to work with. However, the prescription I received for my glasses was incorrect. I went there to get a second refraction after cataract surgery to make sure the one I received in the surgeon's office was correct. This one was totally different from that one. So, I then found a third optometrist, and now I have glasses that actually work. However, it could be my problem as I have never worn glasses, and am not used to the subjectivity of the refraction process. But, I would not go back there. There were also some issues with what I was told about what my insurance would cover. read more

I have worn glasses for a very long time, have been going here for a good number of years, and always feel like they are keeping up with the new technology to keep my eyes healthy. We were existing patients, and I called to see if I could be seen for a new and very worrisome eye symptom. The person who answered the phone offered no help whatsoever-- only that I could just show up during a cancellation that I could not work out, or just come in and wait, and hope that someone could fit me in. She asked nothing about what the symptom was, and very much had a "too bad" kind of approach on the phone. We will not be returning there-- I called another optometry provider, and they were extremely helpful, concerned, and since my symptom could herald a tear in the retina, they fit me in right away. read more
