This office I always clean. I love it here

Excellent Excellent Excellent I can not say this enough. I had a 10:30 appointment scheduled I got there around 10:19 and was immediately greeted by the front door staff. She asked for my name and I filled out a questionnaire that took less than 5 minutes. Before I knew it I was in meeting with the Dr. Opoku-Debrah. She really made my visit a 5 star by being very personable and adding in her dry sense of humor. She didn't even get on me for not having had an examination in almost 2 years . She answered all of my questions and made sure that I knew exactly what was going on through each step of the process. If you have an exam here I would recommend asking for her she was simply phenomenal. I have been coming to this location for years so I already knew what kind of service to expect, but this time I was completely blown away! I was out of there In less than an hour, a new personal best cant wait till I'm back!

I am extremely disgusted with this location. I have worn glasses/ contacts for almost 30 years so I take my eye doctor appointments very seriously. I scheduled an appointment online on August 6, 2020 for September 4th at 10:00 am and received a confirmation email to confirm my appointment. I arrived for my appointment, and due to Covid-19, I had to call to access the office. I spoke to a representative from this office who proceeds to tell me that she doesn't see my scheduled appointment and then tells me that I'm scheduled for September 8th at 10:15am. I hung up to verify that I had the correct date and time for the appointment. Once I verified that I had the correct information I called the office back to let them know that I had a confirmation email confirming my appointment. I spoke to another representative who repeated what the previous representative stated and then asked me how did I schedule my appointment. I told her that I scheduled the appointment online as encouraged by My Eye Dr in all of their promotional materials. She then tells me that "that may have been the problem." What does that even mean?! How does my appointment not match what's in my email confirmation? There was no apology offered or accommodations made as September 8th is not convenient for me. I arranged my entire schedule as well as my previous days off from work around this appointment. I did not find the staff particularly helpful, courteous or accommodating. This entire experience has been extremely frustrating and infuriating. I will NEVER patronize this location again and may never deal with the franchise either.

Look how thick these glasses are, & it's supposedly high index. Last time customer here. Never again! Terrible customer service

I was advised I could get them within a week (visit was 10 Dec 2026) as long as I paid a 30$ rush fee. I called after the first week and they were not in. Was advised they would come that Saturday- they did not arrive. They did not arrive the week after. I called both locations, left a VM and a text message... no response. I called VSP and they went through the exact same thing, with the office not responding by phone. By the time they came in, I was out of town and currently still out. I ended up getting another eye exam and glasses somewhere else. When I asked for a refund, Dr. Lamont wanted to mail glasses to my vacation location- this was NOT an option. When I asked VSP why Dr. Lamont and his team would advise me that a rush on my glasses was given as an option, I was told that VSP does NOT do rush orders in the month of December. When I asked if the doctor knew this, I was advised that he was definitely aware of this, and they were unsure why it was offered. All I want is a refund for my glasses AND benefits, due to not being able to reach the office for cancelation and for being misled about my order. But apparently Dr. Lamont's office is refusing to do this. Very sad, as I don't need two (2) pairs and I am still out of town.

After calling several offices, I was unable to get an emergency appointment. Thankfully, when I called Capital Eye, Dr. Mark Gonzalez recognized that I needed to be seen and was able to schedule an appointment right away. Let me first mention that his staff was extremely nice (which is important since they are the first impression for a doctor) and they seem to work well together as a team. More importantly, I found Dr. Gonzalez to be WONDERFUL. He was very friendly, pleasant and thorough with my examination (even when he chastised me for wearing my lenses overnight). He explained my condition without me having to Google to understand and contacted me the next day to follow up. I really appreciate the care I received and I am happy to entrust my eye care to him. I would recommend Dr. Gonzalez (and his staff) HIGHLY.

I initially went…read morein for LASIK but after their extensive testing found that I was a better candidate for PRK. (Looking back- I am happier it worked out this way- no flap!). The staff and Doctors are extremely personable and friendly and truly made me feel comfortable, which is important in any setting, but especially when your eyes are involved it is a bit of a scary surgery to commit to. I drove all the way from Vienna VA to go to this office and would absolutely say it was worth the drive. I would recommend to anyone who is considering lasik or prk to go here. Everything is very clean, and professional and they explain everything thoroughly and take their time. The office is very busy, but I never felt like I was just another patient. Something else I really liked about the office is that they keep it dark.(not DARK but they don't use a lot of bright fluorescent bulbs) Sounds weird, but after surgery or after having your eyes dilated this was a nice added bonus. A good example of how I felt they went the "extra mile" The fact that they did enough testing to decide that LASIK wasn't the best choice for me was impressive. I have had two doctors tell me that LASIK would be fine, but the testing they did was not nearly as extensive. I am grateful because I probably would have just gotten lasik, even though it isn't the best option for my eyes. Kind of scary to think there are doctors out there that will just do a surgery without paying that much attention. I am glad now that each time I thought I was ready for the surgery I chickened out, so I could finally find this office. Highly, Highly recommended!

My issue is the way I was treated on my last visit by his assistant after it became apparent to her that I would not be buying frames or lenses from the practice. Her attitude immediately changed when I asked for a prescription. She stood up, went to ring up my copayment, and when she returned with the prescription she remained standing and was abrupt with me when I asked her to explain the change in my prescription, which was in a format I was not familiar with based on what I received in prior visits. I'm an educated person who wants to know how things work and what numbers actually mean, not merely to be told that "any qualified optician will understand" the prescription. I was made to feel stupid and like I was an imposition so I left and fed the prescription into ChatGPT which politely explained it to me, including how a progressive prescription can be translated into single vision distance and reading prescriptions, and what the numbers mean. AI was more polite and patient with me than the assistant. Despite having no issues with the doctor himself, I will not be returning to this practice in the future. The barriers between patients and medical information are evaporating due to AI. Doctors would be well advised to ensure that they and their staffs at least match the courtesy of ChatGPT. Update: In response to Dr. Glasser's comment, all I can say is that it would have taken his assistant less than a minute to sit down and politely explain to me the meaning of the numbers. Regardless of whether I'm dealing with an optometrist or a cardiologist, I take it upon myself to gain a thorough understanding of my heath, which is what ChatGPT provided and the assistant did not. If the doctor doesn't want to take constructive feedback on such a simple point, then I suppose that my decision to go elsewhere is the right one.

He then said, the appt will be 15 min tops, so it's not a time to ask questions. I said, of course I want to be able to ask a couple questions, espec bc of eye irritation lately. He said, "I see your insurance is (x) and that only pays us like $60 per visit. We can't give patients longer than 15, we'd go out of business" (!) I couldn't believe it. The rudeness and the gall of mentioning my coverage resulted in poor profit for them. I suggested he NOT say those things to new or returning patients and he said he was trying to manage expectations, that patients "always complain" they want to be seen longer but it's not doable. Talk about poor patient relations/ customer service. I realize what the medical system is up against w insurance is rough, but never has a public-facing clinic employee been so dissuading about the care their provider provides. This was my 1st and last time shopping at Sterling. It's really just the same sad story...supporting a black franchised owned business and receiving piss poor service and product. Not all businesses match the statement. However, Sterling does. I only scheduled an eye exam here because I've purchased directly from Dear Emery a few times and was told from a colleague their frames are sold at Sterling too. I needed an eye exam for this benefit year and thought why not get some frames too. The eye exam was quick and the optometrist was older, appeared experienced and nice. I expected this part to be quick because my vision has not changed much in my contacts or eyewear. After the exam, I was escorted to view and try on frames from another staff member, Lynnay (sp?). I shared with her the style and brands I was going for. We checked out Dear Emery but the ones I wanted was sold out. So then we tried on my 2nd choice, Cazal. Cazal is super hard to find in stores in the area because they are exclusive and not many stores have partnership with a distributor for the Germany-based brand. Their frames are very eclectic, edgy and statement pieces. I found one I wanted after trying a few pairs and began my ordering process. I chose the frame and the transition lens. They were very costly even after going through insurance with a balance of around $1200 left. Now this is where my experience went downhill. I received a call a wk later telling me I could come in to pick up new glasses. I arrive and Lynnay took the glasses out the case and told me to try on. I can't make this up y'all. They really tried to give me glasses that were the used/on display glasses with the inside serial number and brand name gone from people trying on. I immediately told her how dare they try to sell me this used frame and new lens. She said well they are clean because they sanitize every pair after try on. Y'all!!! If I wanted Goodwill, China would have went to Goodwill. Fast forward. I was very firm in they either get this mess straight and order new or refund me my money. She jumped on the phone and called her manager Lolita and explained what happened. I did not receive an apology or anything which leads me to believe they sadly do this to customers on a regular. And the customers just don't know SMH. I've worn glasses and contacts for the past 30 yrs and never been sold a used floor frame. Now why would I do that and essentially be paying $1200 for just a lens? I could have somebody on the street make that! I called Lolita the next day to provide feedback on the situation and of course she replied in a passive aggressive way which I expected. Brushing it under the rug, talking over me and so insincere in her tone and response. The "new" and correct glasses finally arrived after an additional 2 wks. I should have expected nothing less. It is in Iverson Mall. The snickerdoodle shop will give you more quality and service than them. Get your luxury glasses elsewhere. Trust me.

I've always believed that eyeglasses should go beyond being mere medicine for your eyes and venture…read moreinto accessory territory (dress up your face!) without covering up your natural beauty. Purchasing a pair of frames shouldn't be a chore; it should be as exciting and as exhilarating as shopping at the mall. Let's face it (pardon the pun), there's something magical about finding that one spot where you known for a fact that you're gonna find exactly what you're looking for. The hard part is just finding it! I admit that I am one of those guys who takes a half century to make a decision, especially with eyewear. I'm wearing plastic frames on my face for 18 hours a day; you'd best believe I'm making sure that I look absolutely dapper. The problem that I have when going to other eyeglass places is the lack of virtues that make my experience...flawed. For one, patience. Ever feel rushed when choosing frames? Do you find yourself settling because you just want to find something and get the heck out of there? Were you happy with your purchase? Me neither. Another virtue, honesty. I'm a typical dandy. I need frames that compliment me without being distracting. I need the employees to be honest with me when I ask: "Does this look fine?" I don't want to hear: "All of them look good on you." It's okay to be real with me. It won't hurt my feelings. It shows that you care and that you're professional about it, too. Those virtues I found at Sterling Optical. Now, let's be truthful: I am gushing over this business because it's the first time I've been treated like family and not like a customer, you know what I mean? I was in that shop for maybe an hour looking for the perfect frames, and the employees were so patient with me, even assisting with making selections. Special shout out to Lewis for his patience ("I'm not going anywhere") and Moreland for his honesty ("Do you want to look basic or do you want to look fabulous?"). The owner is. A. Treasure! Seriously, her professionalism and attitude should be an example for all business owners. She was very welcoming and possessed a wealth of knowledge about what "works." I appreciate the graciousness that she afforded me and pretty much made me feel comfortable during the whole visit. Very impressed! TL;DR - yes, I highly recommend this institution and it is deserving of a "dandy-approved" sticker!
