Not good! Actually the doctor was great but the customer service was shockingly bad. a) They emailed me SOMEONE ELSE's prescription. Home address, dob, full name, etc. Not good! b) I replied to that email pointing this out on a Saturday (after their closing time, to be fair). c) they're closed on Sunday and Monday. But Tuesday they're open and I still heard nothing. d) Weds I email them again--no reply. e) Thursday I call them, wade through a painful phone tree, get someone on the phone who cheerfully tells me I can get the RX myself if I set up an online account. No, I said, if you can email me the wrong one you can email me the right one, too. The person did email it to me but had snotty attitude and never once apologized for the time I've spent fixing their mistake. NEVER GOING BACK!!!! read more

I received services from MyEyeDr in Des Plaines in May 2024 with a confirmed zero balance. I was explicitly told that my insurance fully covered the visit and that I'd only need to pay for the glasses, which I did. I left the clinic with no outstanding balance. Now, five months later, I receive a bill for $130--absolutely unacceptable. When I called to clarify, they had the nerve to tell me to contact my insurance company. Why should I have to chase down the insurance now? You assured me it was covered; based on that, I proceeded with the treatment. Now, you're demanding additional payment and making it my problem to sort out your mistake? I will take my business elsewhere, and I strongly advise others to do the same. They might hit you with extra charges months down the line too! read more

Here's what you need to know: great service from Ashley. Amazing efficiency and expertise in how she advises clients, and is truly a joy to interact with. The prices at this store aren't the most aggressive and the selection isn't the largest (albeit well curated). It all comes down to the service experience. Everybody is terrific to work with, especially Ashley and also Joe. I've been buying my eyewear here for 9 years (when they were called SPEX) and will continue to patronize them in the future. My family goes to the highland park location and are extremely happy with the service provided. In fact the service from that location on its own is a 5 star. However, the corporate office's inability to complete a simple task is beyond unacceptable and extremely annoying. A simple mistake of them billing two different insurance companies left an unpaid balance on our account. HP office has confirmed that the balance is ZERO but the corporate statement still shows we owe $345. I have been forgiving for TWO MONTHS while being told it has been changed. I would guess 25 phone calls and numerous emails while always being told that it has been zeroed out. We all know that this is going to result in a collection matter hurting our credit and costing more time to rectify. I have zero faith in myeyedr's corporate office. Two thumbs down. I'm now adding this to my review at the end of the week to let everyone know that the account STILL HAS THE WRONG BALANCE!!! read more

Pros: nice friendly staff, great selection, good hours for working professionals Cons: warranty is not included in the price of the glasses, and their delivery time was a week longer than quoted in the store. My flexible spending account didn't cover the warranty charge and I had to pay out of pocket for it. They also didn't communicate the extra charge clearly when I ordered the glasses. Pros: Knowledgeable, professional, and friendly Optometrist. Cons: Everything else. Front staff rude and poorly trained. No greeting when I walked in. Rude response when I inquired how the doctor was running (10 minutes after the scheduled time). No acknowledgement by the technician who checked my eye pressure (strange). Lastly, the employee who handled check out had no idea how to price lenses, and attempted to over charge me an extra $100 above the cost of my visit (not dishonest, just poorly trained). The manager came out after I repeatedly questioned the employee on the cost of the exam (again rude and dismissive). Bottom Line: Really poor experience. Many better and less expensive places to get an eye exam or purchase glasses. read more

This appletini and taupe decorated oculist is definitely befitting the upscale nature of its environs. My vision service plan is kind of picky about where I can go to get the glasses discounts and eye exams, and for some odd reason, this place was on the list. The interior is hip and modern. The technicians are friendly and accommodating. The optometrist was congenial. What sets this place apart is the eyeglass selection. They have it going on here! It's nothing like the chains or the in-store opticians. They have Tom Ford, Freudenhaus, Oliver Peoples, l.a.Eyeworks, Beausoleil and Gold & Wood, to name a few. They also do some sort of special computerized eye exam, which is so fancy, I had to sign a disclaimer acknowledging that I will agree to pay an extra $50 which was not covered by my insurance. I was a bit skeptical about this, and the practice is more than a little transparent. Don't get me wrong, I got to see a picture of the back of my retina; and I was assured that my eyes are healthy, so maybe there's something to it. Then comes all of the add-ons with the lenses. Bottom line, if you get anti-reflective, scratch-resistant transitions lenses with progressive bifocals you will end up spending precious money for your goggles. With the $475 discount I got from using my insurance, my exam and glasses still cost me $750. Mind you, I have some kick-ass state-of-the-art Tom Ford frames. My partner got an awesome pair of all wood Beausoleil frames. His discount afforded him the pair for a mere $850. I guess I don't mind getting quality glasses if they are going to be on my face for a couple years or more. And maybe I've been out of the market so long for glasses, these are the going rates for frames. Anyway, it's fancy, the prices are fancy and the service is great. I don't think I could have gotten these frames for less anywhere else. I'm satisfied, but poorer. read more

I got pinkeye from this location! My experience with the Doctor was great. She was professional and helpful. But the next day after my appointment I have conjunctivitis in one eye! I had to go to another doctor to get eye drops at an additional cost. I called the next day to tell them of the pinkeye so hopefully they could sanitize their location. The sales associate had the audacity to tell me pink eye has a gestation period of a week, which is completely false. I doubt they cleaned anything after I alerted them. UPDATE: 12/1/2015 Doctor called me back after the holiday and stated that there were no other pink eye cases. Very satisfied with experience with doctor, but sales associate left sour taste in my mouth. read more

Great customer service experience. On a busy Saturday, I happened to be in town and stopped in at the eyeglasses store where I purchased frames years ago, before moving out of state. Even though the store name - and presumably owners - had changed, Julie gave my glasses a complete tune-up. I was pleased with the eye exams that I have received from the doctors at MyEyeDr. Today I am writing to commend a member of the front-office staff, Gina, who provided "legendary service" in dealing with my insurance coverage. It appeared that my exam wasn't covered, even though I had not had an exam in 2019. Gina called my insurance company and spoke with numerous individuals, always noting their names, so that she could include the information in my file. When she learned that they weren't going to change their records, she found a "work around" solution so that I would not have to pay for my exam--something for which I indeed qualified. Gina went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service--which I appreciate immensely. MyEyeDr. is fortunate to have Gina as a member of the staff! read more

The optician who helped me, Alyssa, was kind and polite - she gave me the time I needed to make the right decision and did not simply attempt to rush me into a sale. She was thoughtful and seemed very well trained and even went so far as to recommend different frames based on the visions coverage I had in my current healthcare plan. The amount I ended up saving was considerable thanks to the knowledgable, insurance experts at Spex. And, be sure to ask about thier, "Safe Spex" program... If you are like me (can not be trusted to safely handle valuable items for extended periods of time) and where your glasses almost every day of your life, this is a must. Went in on a Saturday recently. Only one person apparently working and was with another customer. I was clearly in need of assistance and he didn't even greet me for ten minutes as he seemed to struggle with pricing issues with another customer. No one else came out and that one person working never said another word to me. Left after another ten minutes. The local competitor I went to was much busier but greeted me immediately and had someone assist me in less than 10 minutes. read more

I have been wearing contacts and/or glasses for almost 50 years! Yes, I must admit, I was one of those nerdy 1st graders with pink glasses! No I have grown into a nerdy grandma with blue glasses! And this is the place I bought them. Hubby and I have been going to Spex for the last several years. We used to go to LensCrafters. I'm not sure why we stopped going there. I think I was disillusioned with the eye exams. Spex does ok in this regard, although Hubby and I joke about the revolving door of optometrists. We never see the same person year after year. They all seem nice, but it would be nice to get some consistency. Meh! So I have started to go to an ophthalmologist, and only come here for my vision exams. Somehow, the only one making out on this deal is the eye care industry! (Rant... but I digress). They have a pretty good selection of glasses... but I must say, Peggy really helped us narrow down what would look good on us. We ended up being there for two hours between the exams and the contacts and glasses fittings and the ringing up of the (gulp) over $2000 in expense... it seemed long, but they were so helpful, I can't really complain. They ARE expensive... but I'm not sure if you can really get the type of lenses/glasses we need much cheaper anywhere else. read more

We had a great visit at MyEyeDr this past year. A few weeks ago, I broke my glasses. They were replaced 100% with my purchase of the extra insurance. The $30 was well worthwhile. Glasses are quite expensive these days, with bifocals and nice frames. read more

Received good guidance and feedback on new frames. Frames I chose were not inexpensive - a Chinese brand called Dragon. Order was sent to a wrong old address that I had never given them (I gave current, correct address but they let some old insurance database link override that so my order was delayed at least a week). My wife was questionably prescribed bifocals for her first glasses, despite the optometrist literally telling me she didn't really need them (I still don't quite understand what that was all about). But what was the real disappointing part and reason for my poor rating was that the built in rubber pads in my Dragon frames have completely disintegrated in well under a year. I very vaguely thought I remembered them telling me at time of purchase that this sometimes happened and could be replaced easily as needed (my vague memory may br wrong here). Anyways I called to inquire about rubber pad replacement on the nose and ears. The woman I spoke to understood the problem and told me she'd check to see if they could swap them out and they'd contact me. A few days or a week went by with no communication. I called again and spoke to the same woman, who seemed embarrassed that she hadn't gotten back to me, but assured me she would follow up and get back to me ASAP. I never got any contact from them. The lack of communication is irritating, but maybe worse is that a store clearly marketed as high end is carrying these POS frames to begin with when they are such poor quality, and charging pretty close to what they charge for the more well known designer brands they sell (which I would have willingly bought but happened to like the Dragon frame shape the best). I feel like they got caught selling a garbage product and rather than do the right thing and stop selling those frames and compensate me somehow, they just ignored the issue, intentionally didn't contact me again, and hoped it would go away. I hope they're happy with the decision. I know I'm not. I'll try a different store next time. read more

Had an all-around great experience there. The manager was extremely helpful in picking out frames that really made sense for me and my preference for something a little more contemporary. They were very clear about all the lens options and and worked with me to get to a reasonable price as my choice of frames was pretty expensive. When my initial lenses seemed to have the progressive aspects a bit off, they were great at suggesting they redo them at no cost. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. And there is a really nice atmosphere at the store. read more

Please don't waste your time or money. Contacts: I received 3 different prescriptions for contacts. Took 3 different exams. As soon as I would get the new prescription, I would have headaches for days and my eyes were still blurry. Seems more like trial and error. Having to move out of town, the agreed to ship my 3rd round of contacts to me, along with the FedEx bill to ship them to me! Over $40 wasted. Glasses: Very helpful picking out the frame. I had to go to a LensCrafters to get them adjusted to my face when they said everything looked nice and even. First set of lenses - everything was fisheyed and were completely unusable. Second set of lenses - upper and outer edges of the frames still give significant fisheye. I couldn't use them for driving because my peripheral vision is useless.They offered to refund because they cant figure it out, but refund never came - Over $300 wasted. Had to spend more money at a different doc to get lenses that actually work, but of course I couldn't use my vision insurance discount anymore. They still haven't given be a copy of my latest prescription. Who knows what I'm even wearing. Have copies of old prescriptions that turned out to be wrong. Thought they gave it to me, but it was actually another patient who was in the building. Probably some HIPAA violation there. While in the office, on one of my 9 visits, I heard 2 other customers complaining of similar issues - glasses making them dizzy, headaches, etc. "Everything is fine. It takes time to adjust" I'm not a difficult person, and I hate to post this, but my experience here was just awful. I had to return so many times and still dont have a good set of contacts or glasses from them, with $100s spent. ForEyes in Northbrook was great. Also, went to a eye shop in the UK to solve the problem. read more

While I felt the doctor was very nice and helpful, the service after is pretty much horrible! I ordered contacts through here and they are supposed to last a month. They are breaking in my eyes after 3 to 4 days. I have spoken with a gentlemen over there who is very rude and suggested that I need to be more gentle with the contacts. Never mind that I have been wearing contacts for years, 2 week contacts w/ would last me a month. These are bad contacts & I should be offered a full refund, but I am being told I cannot get a refund but I can get replacement for the same crappy contacts. Very bad! Will not be coming here again. read more

I can't say enough about SPEX in HIghland Park. Both Dana and Joseph were extremely helpful in picking out flattering frames for me. I don't make decisions quickly, and they were PATIENT! They gave me their honest opinion on each frame, offering many suggestions. Additionally, I had transition lenses put in, and decided I didn't like it. A week later they said they would replace the lenses without transition. Their policy was complete customer satisfaction. Their frames are not cheap, but they are beautiful and look expensive.
