Someone did contact me and told me that Dr.Eiden had retired about a year ago! Thank goodness, Dr. Allen is no longer there either. "Angie" also asked me to change my rating, but I can't. The lab is the worse, too. Besides breaking every one my old pairs, this lab would take forever (weeks and sometimes months) to send my glasses back to me. Highly recommend Dr Allen for your children's eye care. Her and her assistants were sooooo thorough with my sons eye exam. Sure it took close to 2 hours but they did every test and screening and eventually she did pick up an Rx for my son which he was kinda hiding by his eyes over compensating and hyper focusing. Unforunately, I had a pretty awful experience with Dr. Eiden and this business. Before the appointment I called to get some information, and was told the contact exam would be between $100-$500, and that the doctor had a reasonably open schedule and that they would be able to fit me in for follow-ups without a problem. Instead 95% of the exam was done by an optometry intern, never even refracted by Dr. Eiden. Maybe 5-10 minutes was spent with Dr. Eiden with him looking at his watch every 30 seconds antsy to get out of there. Pricing was never discussed until I go to checkout (nor did I have a chance to even ask about it). I was charged $1000 just for the exam alone for fitting of a 'Kerasoft lens'. $1000 for an exam and fitting mostly done by an intern! For the dispensing of the contact lens, they told me subsequently that Dr. Eiden has essentially no availability FOR THE NEXT MONTH! Just for the dispensing and trial of the contact. I specifically called before my initial appointment because I was worried about the exact things that did happen, and the tech I spoke to before my appointment either flat out lied or didn't know what they were talking about.. either way not good form. They're more interested in billing than your eyes -- as other reviewers have stated -- waste of time, money, and effort coming here. read more

Staff and students were nice and friendly plus the place was very clean. Dr. Eiden was very nice and informative during my first appointment, after that he was always in a hurry and not comfortable when asked questions. I paid 3,600 for 1 contact lense(yes only 1) that I don't even use because it was not fit properly. I told Dr. EIden that the lense was not comfortable and he didn't mind. After a few visits he just told he couldn't do anything else and didn't see see me again. I honestly got the impression that he only cares about money. Finally, I went to see other doctor and I got much better results paying a lot of less. I would not recommend this doctor. read more

I second the good at billing review. Scheduled an appointment to get contacts, everyone was friendly seemed like your standard appointment to get contacts. I will say they seemed a little more knowledgeable than most places I have been, but I was just getting new contacts so don't exactly need a rocket scientist. Went to check out and the bill was 4x what I usually pay after my copay. I politely inquired as to why and was met with hostility immediately. Just wanted an explanation why it was $400 to get new contacts. For the past 5 years I have been getting the exact same exam, with the same equipment used and same contacts bought four a little over $100. Upon reviewing the bill there were a few charges they had that I wasn't used to. I asked why, again met with hostility. Finally noticed a charge for a level three contact lens exam, which was more than level one and two of course. I only need a contact in why eye, so was a little confused how it could possibly be "level three" when They only fit one eye for a contact, not the usual pair. Asked why and was told they didn't know. Really was just disappointed I wasn't made aware of services they were doing that wouldn't be covered by insurance. The doctor happened to walk by and they asked him for an explanation, he condescendingly told me "they aren't Pearle Vision" and hurried back to the exam rooms. I think it's more than reasonable to ask for an explanation of what your charges are and it should be politely explained. There is no need to be rude and condescending in addition. Although the doctor seemed very knowledgeable, the attitude and treatment was poor and front desk staff rude and uninformed. They didn't seem to understand you can get the same routine exam done elsewhere for a fraction of the price, just looked at me like I was an idiot for asking any questions and not just paying and leaving. Needless to say I'll be finding somewhere else to get contacts next year. read more

These guys are really quit good at billing and thats about it. After "speaking" with the DR. (who does not take phone calls and only responds by email) as well as several of the office staff for weeks about trying to get results of a vision exam that was covered by insurance, we were told the results only come by way of consultation in person which costs $225 and is NOT covered by insurance... Thats right folks....they give you the test, but the results cost you out of pocket! I would think twice about going here... read more

It took me one full year to get my specialty contact lenses after paying almost $9,000 up front (insurance doesn't cover this)! Dr. Eiden said it would take three to four months, but that was grossly underestimated. There are many good doctors at this practice, but I cannot say Dr. Eiden is one of them. I was told he recently sold the practice, but he appears to still be working there. Dr. Tran, on the other hand, is very good. And Dr. Allen seems very good as well. If you go there, be prepared to spend more time with the interns than you do with the doctors. read more

Great experience for a first-time visit! I came across this office while searching on my insurance's website - it was conveniently located, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I was SO surprised at how thorough my eye exam was -- I have never had such a thorough exam. I was really impressed by the skill of the doctor checking my vision. She was an optometry school intern and she was great. Dr. Simic was also involved in my exam and she helped me understand her findings. She was very personable and friendly. I've been going to this place for 8 years. Now I'm extremely fed up with the doctors and especially the front desk lady. She is probably the rudest person I've ever met. The doctors messed up on my contacts 3 times. After they messed up the third time, I had to go out of town 4 days after, so we had to frantically set up an appointment on the day before I leave. Unfortunately I had a family emergency during the scheduled time and called immediately after they opened to ask if I could move it, since it's their fault they keep on messing up. The front desk later, with the most annoyed and sassy voice, said "It's not my fault you have an emergency. It's not my fault that you set up the appointment and can't go." She didn't try to help and was so sassy, unfriendly, and rude. If you're looking for better expertise/less errors and better customer service, go elsewhere. read more

Dr Eiden is excellent, very polite and patient. My 4 year old and I had appointments at the same time and the staff worked well with us. I was impressed how well they were able to work with my 4 year old. Dr Press was very good with my toddler and made him feel very comfortable. We look forward to coming back to him. Dr. Eiden may have saved my life. I know that's dramatic, but true. The eye provides great insight (no pun intended) into the health of your body. His observation of a small broken blood vessel in my eye and direction to immediately contact my personal physician resulting in treatment may have been life saving. Besides the heroics, I have always found the visits to be on time, efficient and thorough. The (very expensive) diagnostic equipment is current technology and first rate. The medical service accompanying this is professional and informed. And the affiliated optical shop has a decent selection and good long term service for all those pesky movable eye glass parts. read more

As a patient I was treated in a timely manner and with a friendly face. Once it got to payment things went downhill. I was charged $140 more than my vision plan said I should cover. When my insurance company tried to contact the practice, they were hung-up on multiple times and treated very rudely when they got through. No voicemails were returned and so far no resolution has been made. read more

I wish I could give them a better rating because the entire team were very polite and patient. But apart from that, everything felt wrong. I saw Dr Velting in September 2014. On my first visit, I had to wait at their office for hours before I could see the optometrist. Judging by the number of customers they have, it really shouldn't take that long. The contact lens prescription and the trial contacts didn't feel comfortable and I had to come back a couple of times to get the prescription adjusted (and wait for ~20+ minutes every time). In the end they gave me a prescription that is about 1.00 lower on each eye than my spectacles prescription, which I got from BOTH my previous optometrist before NSVC and my current one after NSVC! I wish I stuck with my previous optometrist in Chicago, Not only was his services cheaper (~$100 compared to ~$300 out of pocket costs), faster, most importantly he is able to give me the right prescription. read more

This place has to be the worse experience I have ever gone through. They are nice in the beginning, but don't let that fool you. They have taken my money from me, diagnosed me with things that I had NO clue what it was. They think they can use fancy words and big names to confuse you. I had an appointment with Dr. Press. I really only picked this place because it was close to my house, they have late night hours, and they honored my insurance plan. I was very happy with the professional service I received. The staff and Dr. Press were wonderful. They saw me on time, they had all of my insurance papers printed out and Dr. Press explained what my insurance covered and gave me the full eye exam and helped me pick out my glasses. I researched Vision Therapy in Chicago due to some visual concerns my son was experiencing. I found Dr Press info and did extensive research on his experience and work to find the best spot to help. Dr Press and his team conducted a thorough review and identified the root of my sons struggles was CI. We were able to get a clear plan together with Dr Press and my son's life has changed. Dr Press and his team was so supportive of my son and were very helpful with questions. It took a lot of work and partnership but we successfully completed the program. School is no longer frustrating and my son has blossomed into a confident learner. I am so very thankful to have found this group and highly recommend them. read more

First visit started out okay except for the long wait to be seen. My wife was asked to come back a week after her first appointment so that they could retest her. She was told that there would be no co-pay charge on the second visit. We received a bill several months later asking for additional co-pays for the first and second visit. They billed our vision company and our health insurance company for the visits. They stated that they were entitled to a copay from us from both companies. I explained to the billing person that this is double dipping and should pay for 1 copay not for 2 co-pays on each visit. I also explained to her that my wife was told for the second visit she would not be charged. She said that's not how it works ad refused to ask anyone about it. She threatened she was going to send us to collection for the $60 that we disagreed on. I said I wanted our records and her reply was " You will get your records when you send the us the money. " I was disappointed with her attitude. She lost two good patients today without even trying to see if what we told her was fact. read more

I have seen Dr. Press (usually) at the Park Ridge location for my annual exams to get my contacts for the year. Very nice guy and personable. I'm in my late 20s, and with his friendliness, it feels like I'm seeing a friend for my eye care. Staff is nice as well. I would recommend it. Only tiny downside is the park ridge office is a tad small. But that doesn't keep me from coming back year after year. read more

Went to see Dr. Matz for eye infection, she was able to diagnose it in minutes and perscribe the right treatment, it was the easiest and most professional experience at the the optometry office yet. I highly recommend to anyone who wants an attentive and talented optometrist. read more

no way. this office is a joke. I had a bad case of dry eye and went to see Dr. Press. After my 4th visit and tons of steroids and antibiotics, he stated that he didn't know what else to do since I was still having the same issue. A week or so later I contacted him again to ask questions and he completely ignored my calls. After the 5th message I left, he finally calls me back and tells me to go somewhere else because he can't help me. Not only that but the staff was very rude. I once went in and had to complain on the receptionist. I'm really surprised this place is still in business. read more

Definitely Not Recommended While they say on their website that they are a premier provider with capabilities in Specialty Contact lens fitting, that was not my experience. 1) They did not have the lenses I needed to try, so they had to order them. 2) They gave me a substitute lens with a different power (not a best practice since there is an adjustment process of the brain to new lenses) 3) Wrote me a prescription on the first visit without having tried the right lens prescription 4) I declined to order any lenses from them since we hadn't even tried the new script yet (prescription should be written with the fitting is complete--not without even trying them). 5) Their contact lens prices were about 25% higher than I paid online (even though the contact lens maker limits price reductions. This means they charge more than retail price.) 6) No one called me to say the trial lenses were in so I called them; they claimed they did call me; I have visual voicemail on my home and cell; no call received 7) Made the trip back to their office to pick up the lenses. They gave me one set. (What happens if you have a problem? Other professionals give you at least two) 8) Got home and found the lens prescription was wrong; had to make due until I could get the correct lenses; eyes were hurting since I had to leave them in longer 9) 2nd trip; tried the new lenses and preferred my prior prescription; called them on 8/13 and they did not send the prescription until 8/17. They back dated it to the original exam date- this is not best practice either. Most specialists write it when the the fitting is final. This is their way of making the patient come in again sooner. Shady, IMHO. 10) Before I made the appointment I asked the cost of an exam; the person I spoke with told me an amount, but it turned out to be more than twice what I was told. I see absolutely no reason for them to charge me more than $400 for for an exam and fitting given there was only one trial lens and the previous script was better. The work did not compare with prior specialists I've worked with for much less. With the insurance reduction I paid $345. Not worth it... If you want to be overcharged for less than ideal service, this might work for you. I was willing to forgive the prior missteps until they backdated the prescription... this is not okay. read more
