New to the area and searching for an eye doctor for my two older kiddos. The office was accommodating when switching appointment dates due to unforeseen circumstances. The staff was quick, polite, and we received a great deal on our glasses and contacts for my daughter and son. This is a year later. I was impressed with the front desk/ support staff. Very nice and efficient and friendly. The prescription was wrong, when I got my new glasses it took me a little while to realize my right eye was blurry. I went back and told the optometrist that I could see better out of my old glasses but she denied any mistake and said it was my cataract. I've had the best experience ever today. I'm usually so afraid of going to eye doctor due to previous experiences of dealing with rude staff but everybody was so kind and welcoming today. I have to give the greatest praises to Mikayla for being an amazing eye tech. She has the biggest heart and is very knowledgeable on everything about the eye which made me feel comfortable and confident in trying the online doctor visit for the first time. The wait time is the worst. I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Goulston did a routine eye exam. After 70 minutes of waiting, I finally asked what was going on and was told that he was still with a patient that switched up with what she wanted. I left to go go get a snack but they called to tell me the doctor was ready. When they finally called me back after 10 more minutes, the doctor told me he wanted to take the patient that arrived after me first. Then he said he would go ahead and take me. He then looked at my file to see the other staff hadn't done their part on the pre-screening. I had to go across the hall and wait another 98 minutes to be seen! The 2 women were apologetic but the doctor gave zero Fk's, and did not offer an apology. After being in there for 2 hours, I had to leave. No glasses. No nothing. This was the absolute worst eye Dr experience ever. read more

The front desk was exceptional. Very welcoming, polite, and friendly. I was dissatisfied with the examination. I worked in ophthalmology for over a decade and have years of experience doing refractions among other things. Instead of taking her time and actually trying to improve my daughter's vision, the doctor completely rushed the exam. My daughter has moderate to severe astigmatism and what the doctor should've done was techniques to refine the axis to ensure it was correct. She never even touched the Jackson cross cylinder. A few degrees could be the difference between clear vision and a total blur. Not to mention there are simple tests that can be performed (pinhole) to check whether the decreased vision is due to a refractive error. That also wasn't performed. The diagnosis was potential amblyopia which is possible because it does run in my family but there was no muscle check. Maybe she checked the pupils when looking through the phoropter- I couldn't tell but the traditional swinging flash light test was not performed. She wrote me a glass rx and referred us out. I think we were in there a total of 5-7minutes. In my view, I don't trust the prescription. I don't want to waste even more money on a pair of glasses that are more than likely not correct. I genuinely just wish the doctor cared a little more about her patients. read more

*UPDATE* I tried the this office again in late 2022 and had a much better experience. I saw a different eye doc and was quite pleased.

Experience was great. Staff welcomed me immediately and were all friendly & understanding that I had my small kids with me. Staff gave my kids stickers as well! The doctor, Dr. Shuayb Akhtar I believe, was very professional and fast. I enjoyed seeing the photos of the back of my eye too! Nancy helped me shop for glasses and went over all the charges with me. She was also very friendly and patient. While the prices may be a bit more expensive than I was expecting, I had a great experience and that cannot be undervalued, especially when you're on a time crunch with 2 hungry kids! read more

Not impressed. I went here to try a new eye DR. My contact lens prescription was incorrect even after I repeatedly reminded the doctor what I needed. I also asked for monthly and daily contacts but only got one RX not two. I feel like they don't listen to the patient or check their work. I will not be returning. read more

I went to this location for the first time to complete my annual exam and eyeglasses. I have been to other locations but was not happy with the service. This LaPlata location experience was exceptional from beginning to end. The front desk person greeted me immediately upon my arrival. My wait time was minimal to be evaluated. The wait to see the Doctor was a bit longer than expected, but I quickly learned that it was due to her thoroughness during the exam. My eyeglasses were ready before the date promised and I received a phone call informing me that they were ready to pick them up. Upon my arrival, I was assisted in trying on my new frames to assure a good fit. The gentlemen at the front desk were particularly professional and helpful. I will be returning next year. We had the worst experience ever and worst customer/patient service while checking out at the La Plata, MD location on 11/25/2023. The check out lady Laura (it's her name if I'm not wrong) was awful with me and my dad. Our appt was at 5pm so we were the last customers. She seemed frustrated and not wanting to be there. She was not helpful at all and we were not able to get glasses for my dad since she had a bad attitude and didn't provide us with enough information regarding his insurance benefits. She kept saying and repeating herself "I don't know, I don't know what to tell you, I don't have all the information" We are Hispanic and my dad has 2 last names so she kept complaining how she is not used to people having 2 last names. When I said you know what, just give me the prescription and we'll go somewhere else and figure it out, she said: "that's a good idea" she printed it out and gave it to us. Before leaving I told her I hope you have a better day tomorrow to what she had the audacity to reply "tomorrow is Sunday and I don't work tomorrow" Just WOW! This is not how people should be treated. We pay for an insurance, we pay for extra services or materials if needed and getting this treatment is not fair at all. I hope management can do something about it so other customers don't have the same experience we had. I visited My Eye Dr for the first time to see if they participate with my insurance and since that was the case, I made an appointment for an eye exam and wound up getting two pairs of glasses on sale that day.. They have a great selection and I was very happy with my choices..The optician was very helpful during my eye exam in explaining the importance of overall eye health ..The only suggestion that I would make is that the opticians were more readily available throughout the week but other than that , customer service was great and they can look forward to seeing me again in the future.. read more

The beginning when I first got my glasses from them it was fine. I bought the insurance for replacement just in case something happens to them and something did. I took them back to the store. They told me someone will call me to let me know how long it would take to repair. No one ever called. So I call them and was given a date. They call the day before they was due and said it would take three more days because they got the prescription wrong. It been two months and no word on my glasses. read more

I arrived to my appointment late. I get it, but the guy behind the desk has been rude! When I made the appointment he did not write down the time on my card. He was sitting behind the desk looking miserable and taking meds. He should have stayed home. Anyway, I had 11:30am documented in my phone not 11:00a.m. When I walked in I was greeted which was nice. But, after that his attitude was horrific! From the time he asked my name until I left he seemed annoyed! How can someone like that be in charge of customers. This was my first experience with an optometrist for an eye exam; in the fast I have always gone to an ophthalmologist. I was having trouble with my contact lenses and the office was convenient, participated fully with my insurance, and had available appointment times, so I gave them a try. Excellent decision. The doctor quickly identified the problem which was an infection of a sorts, prescribed medication, charged this as a medical visit with just a copay, and mapped out a complete plan for treatment to get me back into contacts.
