The service has continued to deteriorate over the past few years, culminating in a lens grinding that was faulty, (despite taking well over 45 minutes promised). Furthermore, a regular set of glasses that were being picked up were tightened and then the arms fell off 2 hours later!! I'm sent to wait with a large group of people this wasting another hour of my time. I'm not a happy camper. Shout out to Tony as he seems to know what he's doing! read more

The office is more oriented towards sales than quality eye care, and admin staff are often neither courteous nor competent. We used them for a long time but the decline in professionalism became too much to bear. The examination was thorough and I was advised to use Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress | Microwave Activated, they had it in stock in the office and it changed my condition, the pain decreased and the eye improved. I recently met with Dr. Gregory Lawrence at Bethesda Vision Care and had a great experience. His communication style is comforting and honest. Easily the best vision experience I have experienced. My last eye doctor told me I needed bi-focal glasses. I purchased $600 glasses that never worked. I should have come here for a 2nd opinion. Dr. Lawrence suggested that I purchase some OTC computer glasses with a minor magnification. Dr. Lawrence will be my vision doctor for as long as possible. Overall great experience. read more

On Wednesday, June 19, when I arrived at the reception desk for my annual eye exam, one of the receptionists asked if I had an appointment. I informed her that it was with Dr. Katchuk. At the time, there were 2 female receptionists in the area. The one who approached me was trying to explain the contents of a document for me to sign and date. The other receptionist was loudly laughing and talking with a patient, making it impossible for me to hear about the document's purpose. As the noisy chatter and laughter continued, twice I said, "I can't hear." Because I still couldn't hear, I shouted, "I can't hear." The receptionist with a loud voice told me that I was rude and angrily yelled at me. I wanted to leave the facility, but my husband who was present, persuaded me to stay. I then responded that I wasn't rude, explaining that I couldn't hear what the receptionist attending to me was saying. Shortly after that episode, I was escorted into a room to examine my eyes before seeing Dr. Kathuk. While undergoing the eye tests, a woman named Kat, who identified herself as an administrator, entered and asked the technician, conducting the tests, to leave. For approximately 15 to 20 minutes, Kat berated me for my behavior at the reception desk. I was told that the receptionist with the loud voice was deaf in one ear and probably didn't hear me. And, my yelling offended her. Even though I answered that I too am deaf in one ear, she said I should have been more civil with that employee, particularly since she receives the highest reviews. Kat insisted that I could have politely let her know her voice was too loud. She angrily called me "aggressive and hostile," which she repeated three times. In direct contradiction to her behavior, she also spoke of her knowledge of human behavior and human interaction, and how it frustrated her that she couldn't communicate it to me. I was not aware that the receptionist in question was deaf in one ear. When I asked her to stop yelling at me, she continued calling me rude. I leaned over the desktop and responded, saying "I'm not rude," and "I'm a patient here." Additionally, I never resorted to ad hominem attacks despite the abrasive language of Kat and the receptionist. That, however, didn't seem to matter. Fortunately, Dr. Katchuk's examination of my eyes went well, leaving me confident about my vision. I had an unpleasant experience at Bethesda Vision Care Center. Never have I been treated so poorly by a hard-of-hearing receptionist and an intolerant "administrator" who found it necessary to abuse me verbally. Neither of those two women deserves to be given a high rating. In conclusion, since I am also deaf in one ear, whenever I've been told, in whatever manner, about the strong sound of my voice, I immediately apologize for any disturbance I may have caused. read more

I don't understand how these so lovely and professional optometrists can have staff so unfriendly and arrogant. No LOVE at all for the clients! Family has been a customer for several years. Optometrist is great and we've spent a lot on frames and lenses. However quality control has dropped significantly and very disappointing. They are very friendly when selling frames but delivery falls short of the premium fees they charge. I left a brand new pair of silver ray bans and specifically asked of the original lenses back. 2 weeks go by and I had to follow up. Frames were great. Upon leaving I reminded them of the original lenses and they couldn't find them. On my way home I felt a sharp poke on the frame and noticed the tech had replaced the original silver ray ban part with an oversized black screw. Went back the next day and was told to wait 5 more days - for a screw! Called today, 6 days later and they can't find the part. Promised a call back from Britney but she never returned my call. Leaving for a vacation with an overgrown screw in my brand new sunglasses. Poor customer service and how does a Ray Ban reseller or any high quality vision service not have the proper screw. I left a brand new pair of frames and got back a defective product. I guess I'll have to wait for that screw. Thanks. read more

I have been a patient of Bethesda Vision, specifically, Dr. Levy since I was a child! To say that I still see Dr. Levy as an adult speaks volumes about his professionalism and care of his patients. The entire staff at Bethesda Vision are friendly and always smiling; it's a very welcoming doctor's office. Aside from the great customer service and patient care, they have a vast selection of glasses, but they are expensive! One doesn't have to feel obligated to purchase their eyeglasses from the office; you can always take your prescription elsewhere. I don't have any complaints about Bethesda Vision - as long as Dr. Levy is there, along with friendly staff, I'll continue to patronize Bethesda Vision Care for my vision needs! read more

Bethesda Vision popped up in my search when I looked up "opthamologists" in the area. Something was irritating my left eye over the weekend, but it continued even after I flushed my eye. Worried that it was going to cause long-term or permanent damage, I got a last-minute appointment at Bethesda Vision Care. The wait was very short. I saw Dr. Berenhaus who located a foreign object embedded under my eyelid. He gave me antibiotic drops which cleared up the irritation within a couple of days. Even though I didn't have health insurance or enough cash to pay out of pocket, the office made an exception to accept my Amex (money is money, right?). The staff is very professional here. Having worn glasses and contacts since I was a teen, I'm very choosy with eye-care places. I definitely plan on returning to Bethesda Vision when I'm due for my annual eye check-up. read more

The staff are super friendly, they use the latest technology (no more anxiety generating air puffs!) and ample parking spots. I needed a new pair of glasses and purchased a pair here. I have a very high prescription and am sensitive to finding glasses that don't look coke bottly. I had a great experience at Bethesda vision. The optician, Gary, was super friendly and steered me towards a new pair of glasses that were smallish but still looked fashionable. They have a nice selection of brands and prices ranging from to Kate spade to some super fancy high end brands that I'd never heard of. read more

The service was actually pretty good--I'd say 4 to 5 stars--and I was treated well. However I am now very suspicious of optometrists in general because when I randomly selected optometrists in DC at one point, two independent optometrists recommended specific brand lenses on false pretenses (they said the brand I usually could not correct for the level of astigmatism I have, but I subsequently discovered this was not true). Later I Googled on optometrists and incentives they have for prescribing specific brands and was shocked. My vision care coverage is poor, and some people do not even have coverage. What I did find suspect at Bethesda Vision Care was that the prescriptions I was sent expired in one year. So in DC prescriptions expire in 1 year and MD and VA for two years, which is why I trekked all the way up to Bethesda. The prescription also was not signed. After I noticed these issues, I asked them for a correction, which they were prompt about... but the average harried person might not notice, and this would bring BVC twice the profit, even if exams are not necessarily the money making machine. So sorry to be cynical, but it's super important to get a prescription right. read more

Bethesda Vision care has been our provider of all things contacts, glasses and eye exams for years. The front desk staff is courteous, capable and responsive. My son and I get excellent care from Dr. Lawrence (and both of us have tricky contact lenses prescriptions and needs). Dr. Lawrence is caring, knowledgeable, patient and so accessible. The current MVP is Keome Brooks, one of the opticians. Keome was everything any business would want. Things had gone a little sideways with a new pair of glasses -- my first time wearing progressives. When I saw Keome it was my 3rd trip and I could not bear to put that pair on. She honored completely how frustrated I was. She explained what wasn't working and why, she fixed my problem both short term and long term. Thank you, Keome. Really terrible customer service. We are training our daughter's eyes with graduated contacts. I received an incomplete supply of contacts and asked whether I should wait to start the training as the doctor stressed that we needed 7 consecutive days in contacts. I was told that they would reach out with a plan on Friday for us to pick up the lenses or figure out a different plan and there was no call. On Saturday, when our daughter had run out of contact lenses I contacted the office and was assured that the doctor and contact manager would call us first thing Monday to explain whether we needed to restart the training. By 4 pm on Monday, I had received no calls. So I called the office and 44 minutes talking to the secretary, the contacts manager, the office manager, and finally, the doctor. Not one of these people accepted that this was either a planning failure or a communications failure. I found all the excuse-making insufferable because at no point did anyone except the doctor identify a path forward. But, I find that I don't believe the doctor. He had stressed the importance of wearing the contacts for 7 consecutive days and suddenly 4 days was acceptable because they would be working together over time. In my opinion, I think even the doctor misrepresented the facts - either in our initial meeting or in my most recent phone call because these were clearly different stories. In any case, I need to work with an eye doctor and staff who is more professional and doesn't waste my time. read more

I had a bad experience at Bethesda Vision a few months ago. Although everyone was very polite my new glasses were not working and I didn't get satisfaction when I complained. The manager stepped in and there was a complete turnabout. Now I have new lenses and new frames and I couldn't be happier. I haven't been to a lot of eye doctors, I'll admit that. But the care and immediate attention I received at Bethesda Vision Care was impeccable. I felt like an old friend, I really did. Everyone there was so nice to me, and when I had a very minor comfort issue with one of my prescribed contacts, they fit me in the very next day and at no cost to me. I don't think there are many places that do that. My optometrist, Dr. Glasgow, is the kindest, most enjoyable doctor I have ever seen, and her enthusiasm and interest in your eye health is immediately apparent. Front desk staff seems constantly overwhelmed or confused, and are not particularly welcoming. I called to make an appointment and was put on hold for 6:30 min right off the bat! Ordered glasses and it took 4 weeks for lenses to come back, plus another few days to schedule a "fitting," so I waited a total of 5 weeks to pick up prescription eyeglasses. They didn't even notify me that my glasses were ready -- I had to call myself. Did they forget? Also, waited 20 min. for my actual appointment to begin. Overall, not a great experience. Good thing optical appointments only need to be once a year - will give me plenty of time to find someplace else that's grateful for my business. read more

Dr. Lawrence is lovely and explains in an easygoing manner everything that he is doing in the exam and takes the time to listen to any problems that I'm having. I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received Bethesda Vision Care. I spent approximately $1000 for trifocals and now have to use my old glasses for reading. The staff is friendly and polite, but are unwilling to replace the lenses. Apparently they never recorded my prescription in my file and can only read it by measuring the lenses. I haven't given up getting the lenses replaced, but I can tell everyone that I will not use this business again and will not recommend it to anyone else. read more

I spent $800 on the exam, lenses, lens treatment, and designer frames. Because my rx went through the Davis lab, I waited 2 weeks for them to arrive. Now I have worn glasses and contacts for about 12 years now, and I know that your eyes have to adjust after you get your new pair. But what I experienced was NOT the normal amount of vision distortion / dizziness usually accompanied by a new pair. I felt like I had been transported to a Circus Fun House. Things flat became round and the floor felt just inches from my face. I expressed concern and they told me to just give it a couple days and if it still is bad, then to come in for a re-check. I came back the following day because my vision hadn't improved. The receptionists and technicians behind the counter all acted as though I was to blame for their faulty calculations, like it was MY fault. I saw Dr. Katchuk for another exam and he said my rx was the same so it's probably the base curve/pupil distance that was incorrectly measured. I corrected him, stating, "You never took those measurements to begin with!". Apparently they just used a standard measurement (kind of like one size fits all) instead of taking an actual reading. He escorted me downstairs to get a reading. The technician came out and said before they send back my glasses she wanted to try something else. She heated my glasses and then bent them out of shape so that the angle of how they sit on my face would be different. I tried telling her its the LENS not the FRAME, but it was too late. My glasses are crooked and improperly bent and no longer sit on my face as they once did. They don't even lay flat on a table. She said for me to wear these over the weekend (yes, the crooked frames) and tell her how it's going on Monday. Are they so cheap they can't even redo my lenses right away- they have to resort to bending my FRAMES out of shape?! I am so frustrated at this point I am thinking of just asking for a full refund and going some place else. They don't do very much to ensure all their patients are fitted and measured properly, and the staff does not appear to be all that knowledgeable. They essentially ruined my pair of Ted Bakers. They also have a pretty limited selection of glasses. I chose this place initially because I wanted to support an independent vision center, but sadly, Pearle did a better job. read more

I've been going to Bethesda Vision Care for at least five years now and I've never been disappointed with the friendly and attentive service I get from the staff here. From the front desk/optical care staff greeting me at the door to the optometrists I have not experienced anything but friendly and pleasant interactions. Dr. Kachuck is friendly and professional and was easy in providing me a written Rx for my lenses and glasses if I decide to get them elsewhere. Some drawbacks: This cottage-style office is located on a one-way portion of East-West Hwy (just after the fork) so you better turn into the driveway fast or else make a BIG loop around the block to get back onto it. Also parking is cramped and limited, so pick an off-peak time for an appt so you can get a spot. Been fortunate enough not to hunt for street parking around there. read more

I was pleased with my eye examination and then waited 4 weeks (I had been told it would be 2 weeks) for the lenses to be ready. I called to make an appointment to have the lenses put in my present frames. The woman who answered the phone said appointments were not necessary for this. I said I would be coming on Tuesday morning at 9:30. She said that would be fine. When I got there they said I needed an appointment and that the person who did that work was not in today. Needless to say I was not very pleased since I rearranged my schedule to be there at the time I said I would arrive. I hope that the people who answer the phone will be advised of this. read more

Teeeeeeerrible! Over a year ago, I went in to get an eye exam, new glasses and contacts. Got the test, the glasses, and contacts. I had a migraine shortly after using the new prescription, and when I went in, was told that my eyes were fine and that the new prescription was not the cause of the migraine (I got the impression that I was crazy because the Dr. didn't really think there could be a correlation). Fast-forward to two days ago, new prescription at a new place...I was over-prescribed by .5 in both eyes! A pain in the back of my head/neck, that I thought was chronic at this point (and started after I had the migraines) has practically disappeared. My eyes could have spontaneously improved, or the migraine and head aches was distress from a poor prescription. It would seem it was the latter. It sounds like other people have had good experiences here, but consistency is important, and all it takes is one bad experience like this to never go back again and encourage all of your friends and colleagues at the NIH and in Bethesda to AVOID going there. read more
