The office is bright and clean, and the technician, Dr. Monarch, and sales rep were all very professional. My exam was $130 and included both contacts and glasses Rx. They do charge an additional fee for a new kind of retinal scan (I forget if it was $35 or $65 - I want to say $65), or you can do the old school dilating drops for free (but you'll have to wear those funny sunglasses for a couple hours). The sales rep listed the total cost of my visit and the cost of a 6mo and 1yr supply of contacts for me to choose from. I really appreciated the plain and upfront accounting.

He stated the ladies out front should be able to help. The lady assisting me out front pushed their online portal which I had no interest in, and when reviewing my prescription it did not show a pupillary distance. I asked and she advised that if you do not purchase glasses from them they no longer provide it. While I believe this should be illegal as it is in other states South Carolina does not require it for a prescription even though it is needed to obtain an accurate prescription. Plus if you use a card they charge a fee, this place tries to nickel and dime you.

I noticed that the PD measurement was not on my prescription and asked for it to be added before I left. I was told no, I could not get this information. I use this measurement to order my extra sunglasses online. I was told this is NOT part of the prescription and it would not be provided to me. After I was insistent I was then told I could get it if I paid $30! I was also told if they provided this information to me it causes them to lose money..... I've had good experiences with optical impressions before (and have been a repeat customer) but all that was erased yesterday. My husband had eye exams & bought glasses from them in the past also. I waited what felt like almost a half an hour (although it was probably about 15-20 minutes) for the doctor to come in and finish. It went ok and Dr. Palmer answered my questions, provided me with my prescription (as I usually get my glasses online) and I left satisfied. It wasn't until I got home that I looked at my prescription and realized that there was no PD (pupillary distance) # listed. Thinking it was just an oversight, I called back today to get it and they said it would be an additional $25 because it's only given when buying glasses from them. Excuse me? Now it may be because I don't go to the eye doctor often, (and charging people extra for the faster more updated eye exam I understand) but you're going to charge an additional $25 just because they choose not to pay for your glasses (frames and lenses) too? If I had known that I would have to pay over $60 just for an exam and a PD number on my prescription I never would've gone there. Now being that I don't go to the eye doctor all the time, that may be a new thing that I just didn't know about but I was very clear from the beginning of my appointment what my intentions were and the technician nor the doctor did not tell me that while I could get a prescription from them it wouldn't include a necessary detail without a additional $25.
