Do not use this My Eye Dr. location or Dr. Donna Richardson. My daughter, who is attending school in DC, went to them for an eye exam and they refused to take her Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, despite Dr. Donna Richardson being an In-Network provider. When I contacted BCBS, they confirmed Dr. Richardson's In-Network status. When BCBS then contacted Dr. Richardson's office to reverse the charges and properly submit the claim, they flat out refused to do so. From seeing the reviews on this site, it is clear you need to steer clear of this "provider". read more

The doctor was very nice, the person who handled placing my glasses order was nice, however when I had to work with the manager because my glasses weren't working right and I decided to return them - things didn't go as well. She issued my personal credit card a return but advised she couldn't tell me IF the company would issue a return against my insurance. My insurance ended up having to call her and she advised that they would be issuing a return (an entirely different story, but then said she didn't know WHEN they would process that return so I could use my benefits). The rep had to call the main MyEyeDr number to verify that the return would be processed and to find out more information. Would not really recommend working with this company based on the transaction with the manager & it's been a few weeks - I haven't heard anything more about the return on my insurance account. read more

Thu Tran I have never encountered such a unprofessional unbecoming optometrist. She does not merit her title; she appears to be no more than 37 years old and seems quite inexperienced in her role. she was visibly frustrated due to my inability to see clearly during the test, was all blurry. I felt judged and was forced to strain my eyes and read despite the difficulty. At one point, I looked away from the machine and observed her laughing. Upon noticing this, she apologized, stating that she rather " laugh at the situation" This was, without a doubt, my most distressing experience with a "healthcare "professional." Furthermore, she appeared frustrated due to my lack of a prescription, a fact which the individual responsible for scheduling appointments should have ascertained beforehand, concluded to tell me after U use some eye drops. In my opinion, this indvidual is decidedly unfit for their role as a medical practitioner. read more

I'm not sure how to feel about this place yet since I've only had one visit. I will say they were quick to do the assessment and exam so that's a positive. What was problematic for me was the contrast between the friendliness of some the employees in comparison to the doctor. The environment was somewhat unwelcoming. They also only have a 10 minute grace period to arrive at your appointment, so make sure you're on time or early since it's nearly impossible to find parking in this area especially around lunch time. Better yet, do not schedule your appointment around lunchtime. They WILL call you to make sure you know that if you're late after the 10 minutes then you have to reschedule. Luckily I didn't have to reschedule. I did like that they didn't try to make me purchase glasses or upsell me. They simply asked if I was interested in using my benefits and I told them I was there only for the prescription. I'm going to try the other location which is also on Pennsylvania Avenue next time to see if the customer service level is the same or better. Overall it served its purpose and I was able to get an updated prescription. read more

Update: changing this to a 3-star. They did cancel my order and were able to get me a refund on glasses. Anjela is super nice and helpful. Still felt that their overall fees were very high. Went here for an appointment today and the out of pocket expense was $600 even with my insurance covering over half. They talked me into buying glasses even though I didn't really want them and were not upfront about the cost. The woman was really nice about helping me pick out frames, but she didn't tell me the frames were from their $400+ sections. Not only that, but there were many other fees associated with my exam that I have never had to pay before at any other eye doctor. It felt like they were trying to squeeze every penny out of me they could. I called afterwards to cancel my classes order (I panicked and just paid the charge on my credit card while I was there), and they said the person I worked with would look into and call me back. This is the worst eye doctor's office I've been to in my life. The staff (the female staff specifically) is extremely rude. One even shouted at me when I was standing in a spot another staff member told me to stand. When she realized she was wrong she whispered an apology. The doctor that did my exam, Dr.Thu Tran, was highly condescending when she responded to any questions that I asked about my exam or eye health. The male staff members were kind and professional, and I have received better care from a different doctor on a previous exam, but I will not be returning to this business again. read more

I will start with the good. This is a great location, very near the metro and parking is usually ok. The doctor and customer service staff are exceptional. They are very friendly and personable. The not so good....this place is unbelievably expensive. I understand them being on Capitol Hill makes prices the way that they are, but a new pair of glasses with the new prescription, adding the updated prescription to 2 pair of glasses that I already have and an exam should not be over $1K! I left them the first time because of the expense, but I didn't have insurance at the time. Insurance didn't make much of a difference. I went back to them because they are close to home and work. I usually don't bother leaving a review, but this was a particularly bad experience. I booked an appointment online, but there was an error in their system that double booked. They had me come back an hour later, but still asked me to wait to see if another patient showed late. He did show late, but I wasn't seen anyway, despite the fact the doctors and physicians were clearly available. All of it could have been avoided if they'd just informed me proactively of the double booking and rescheduled me. Instead I spent two hours of an afternoon waiting for no reason. read more

I had such great experience at this MyEyeDr. I didn't have an appointment, which wasn't a problem because there was only 1 other customer there. I went in having an idea of what kind of glasses I was looking for, but I wanted to try them on just to make sure they fit my face. Staff was great, and let me take as long as I needed to. I'm glad I didn't feel rushed, nor did any of the staff hover around me as I tried on different pairs. I ended up choosing a pair of Tom Ford glasses and my entire order was 30% off! I would definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for glasses, based on my experience so far. In genneral I will say my overall experience with MyEyeDr was pretty bad. I had the feeling I was dealing with a bunch of disingenuous used car salesmen. From the onset with little to no explanation I was told I needed every possible addition to my eye ware, ( the extended car warranty). This commissioned driven dealership was absent of any true personal interest in the final product or how it worked for or looked on you. Case in point. I was promised expedited service in which I was told about a week or so on the return. Great, I had a contact persons name to boot, I'm set. One month later after stopping by and calling several times my specs arrive. They were handed to me in bag. I thought maybe there would be questions about the fit, but no. I decided to try them on. An adjustment was indeed needed. I took them to the representative at the main front desk to request an adjustment. The representative handed them to a asssumed repair person. She looked at the desk rep. then said, without any regard to my presence, and a facial grimace, "well, what is wrong with them?". Need I say more. Enough said already, go somewhere else! read more

A few months back, my husband and I went over to get our exams and glasses. I decided for the first time that I would want to try contacts. Sadly, With the pandemic going on, I had to have my contacts shipped to me because I have to quarantine because my husband caught COVID. Mind you, this is the first time I've ever worn contacts, and I stated that repeatedly. However, they shipped me my contacts with zero directions and zero " complementary" eye cases and solutions. For the money we've spent, they should've just been included. I've already dried out two pairs of my contacts, and I've only had them for four days. I just got off the phone with the second person telling me to come in, and they will give me a complementary solution, and I kiss? Mind you, and I just got finished telling them that I have to quarantine because of COVID. read more

Ok so this place is absolutely terrible. Customer service is non existent here. I don't normally leave reviews but I have to today. I have been waiting for my contacts for three weeks now and both times I called to follow up I received no helpful information. The first call was after waiting the 7-10 days the rep said it would take for the contacts to arrive. She tells me "oh it will be here soon and you will receive a text notification." Never got a notification. Then today the woman who took my call had me on hold for 8-10 minutes as she "tracked" the location of my contacts. After that wait she returns and says "unfortunately we are unable to track your contacts and we will have the manager Kevin call you back." So they haven't been able to track an order they placed three weeks ago??? When I asked when will I receive a call back she tells me she can't say when she will be able to have someone call me back or if they will be able to tell me when the contacts arrive. I requested the manager expedite my call because I have ZERO contacts left and she tells me he is on site but she doesn't know when he will return to call me. She didn't even want to give me his name or his status of availability for the day. WTF??? Just leaving patients flapping in the wind??? With no answers. The woman sounded so unconcerned about instilling confidence with her poor assistance. I called to get answer and am even more confused. My exam was rushed on my visit three weeks ago. Even when I first walked in the young guy with the braids and glasses was super rude taking my information. The female physician was even rude evaluating me. I was late but within the cutoff time before the appointment is cancelled and I still wasn't seen. I'm new to the area so had no clue there was no parking. Had to walk 3 blocks to the office. as others have noted the service is slow and rude. (waiting an hour in the middle of the week past appointment time, only one other person seen ahead of me). but more importantly -- place is essentially running a scam. It works like this: 1) you go in for a new prescription 2) without asking or informing you that it would cost more money, they perform "retinal imaging" you did not ask for, need, or want. 3) At check out, they tell you the "total" but leave out the fact that you have been upcharged for a test you did not ask for. 4) If you ask about why you are being charged for a test, they try to pressure you anyway and gaslight you by saying, essentially, "well you had it so you must have asked for it," and pretend that the front desk just doesn't know anything at all about it (while insisting they run your card for the full amount). I imagine that this would be an inviting class action lawsuit and its only a matter of time before someone takes them on for this deceptive and illegal behavior. read more

Had a terrible experience. Appointment wasn't honored even though I confirmed multiple times. Process for appointment wasn't documented then the general manager decided to lecture me on how because we are in DC and people flake all the time that he requires the business to ensure they have 3 confirmations before an appointment is honored. Avoid this place. I'm an incredibly busy person, and I've never had to spend this much time to make any kind of appointment. My advice to the general manager, if this is how you think a good business is run, you need to get a reality check. Update: December 15th, 2018 I wanted to thank MyEyeDr customer service because they seem to be the only ones who take the time to find resolution to my problem. I must give thanks to Josue who called and had originally set appointment for me for yesterday when Mohammed would not having stated needed to check notes on possibly charging me for new lens when I have been without glasses since May. Well I got a call from Mohammed on 13th who stated that the store would be refunding me for my glasses and I could come in as I had a Morning appointment I made plans to come in afterwards. Folks was not sure if I would get refund as I originally asked for refund months ago and was told I could get $145 of my original $750. Anyways Mohammed did give my refund I say thank you to the store in doing something they should have done months ago. It is exhausting when you have to demand the service you paid for and sad when their resolution department is more customer service oriented than the people are are suppose to be... I am grateful that this is done and thankful to my lord for opening minds and hearts and deciding this is best way to end this matter. I won't ever be back to MyEyeDr I gave them second chance 10years after the fact and they are still doing same poor work. Lesson learned for me. Very disappointed with My Eye Dr. Went to get an eye exam and prefilled out the paperwork online. On this form I declined the extra retinal photo exam. The options on the form included 'yes', 'no' and 'I'd like to speak with the Doctor for more information'. I had selected 'no' and despite this no one consulted me prior to the testing or that particular test. I realized after the fact that I was charged for it. While they make it seem that they grant the customer a choice, in reality they don't. Also, I was shocked to see that the patient file-folders are held within the initial testing room, as seen in my photo. I used a stop watch on my phone to find out that I was left ALONE in this room for 3minutes. I was looking forward to getting two pairs of glasses at this location but will now take my business elsewhere. Such a shame, I like to support business in my backyard. read more

They want you to take your contacts out in a back room next to a dirty bathroom with no paper towels and multiple mousetraps. the back room also had food and nasty burnt toaster oven items all around. No one is clean in there, the whole place is pigsty. I waited 30 minutes to be seen. The contraption that puffs air into your eye was filthy with other people's makeup and she didn't even offer to clean it. I had to use the sleeve of my sweatshirt. Everyone is rude in there. Very good service here. I've purchased frames and lenses from them. They accept most insurance, and they seem very knowledgeable. They even made me feel comfortable with that test where they blow air in your eye (I HATE that test!). The parking isn't ideal, as it's on Capitol Hill, but I believe it's worth the trip. read more

Had an appointment on Monday July 18,2022 at 10am. I was leaving another appointment 10minutes late, walking up the street , a block away to inform them of the lag time. A male answered the phone I was explaining the circumstances of my tardiness. I asked could I still come to my appointment or should I make another one. He told me that I should make another one because they were very busy. Now... let me ask you this.... Initially I would have been part of the all the havoc because I had an appointment, right? And had I been on time the appointment would not have began on this one. So why's the difference in sitting beyond the appointed time and being late 10 minutes. They have no problem with YOU waiting but to wait ON YOU Carry's a cynical tone . Two days after I receive an email stating I missed my appointment. So I call again and was told it was automated. How can that be when I physically called to attend, was given other instructions and no one placed a notation on the records as if I'm neglecting service provided. Get this foolishness straight. The male asked would I like to make another appointment? HUH! Never going back. I hope this tightens the ship they run on communicating properly without lies and manipulation.
