But lately the grinders i have been getting from other places we're just a circle meatball and sauce and cheese. I'm honestly very disappointed with my recent experiences at Yanni's Pizza in Newington because this has always been one of my go-to places. The first time, I went with a friend and ordered the lobster ravioli. While eating it, I started feeling nauseous and ended up returning the dish to the server. The next day, my friend contacted me and told me that she had become very sick after eating the separate dish she had ordered. I can't say for certain what caused either of us to feel sick, but the experience definitely left me concerned. I decided to give Yanni's another chance because I've always enjoyed going there. Unfortunately, my second experience was also disappointing. I went with my girlfriend and we ordered a meat lovers pizza. The crust had what tasted like a stale/refrigerated flavor, and the crust itself was noticeably different from what I was used to getting from Yanni's. My girlfriend also thought the pizza was terrible and told me we shouldn't go back. That's what makes this so disappointing. This used to be a reliable go-to spot for me, so having two bad experiences back-to-back makes me wonder if something has changed. I really hope the restaurant looks into the consistency and quality of the food because I'd much rather be able to recommend Yanni's again. read more

I was craving a nice Greek salad with grilled chicken and I was in the area. I had a short lunch and I needed my salad fast . My waitress was very accommodating and very friendly. She even brought me a to go container, anticipating my needs. The atmosphere is very casual and it was nice and quiet. I will definitely return to try more items from the menu. A friend recommended this spot because he has been coming here for years. I stopped in for a midday lunch and everything was good for the most part. Their portion sizes are huge! We definitely had so much food that we ended up packing away because we simply could not finish it. I was surprised by how large the kids portion of mac & cheese was. Thankfully, we were paying attention, but the waitress sat a piping hot plate of mac & cheese down in front of a 15 month old... anyone who knows a 15 month old knows that it's very hard to take something from them once they've decided that they want it. Besides that, I feel like service was attentive. There weren't many other tables around this time of day so everything was quick. I enjoyed the California burger and fries were delicious. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to return, but it is a good spot if you're looking for lunch. read more

First time in Hartford area in a decade for a family celebration. First night in, we do take out; a feast from Yannis. The kids are picky eaters and it was their favorite salad and spaghetti and meatballs they've had. For me the Caesar salad with steak was nice. The baked ziti my wife had was divine. Cannot wait to get the pizza when we go back this weekend. The service was so friendly and fast. What a fantastic place! The BBQ chicken pizza was phenomenal! Lots of toppings and the crust was perfect- not too thin not too thick but on the thicker side. The antipasto salad was yum too - so many wonderful veggies! Lots of olives and peppers. And the house dressing was creamy and delicious. The garlic parm wings were great too! The food is prepared with excellence and the portions are significantly larger than you might expect. Very friendly wait and kitchen staff.

Last time we went, they def forgot our kid's cheese pizza as all our food came out minus the pizza and we had to remind them when they asked if we needed anything else. But they were very busy, they do a large take out business and we were tucked in the corner. Our waitress was sweet and the food was very good. I am picky with my Italian food but there sauce was really tasty and that makes it breaks it for me. This time we got chicken parm, pizza and sweet potato crusted salmon, which was cooked perfectly. Good Food and Great service! Shout out to the wait staff for everything. We brought in about 1/2 our hockey team on Sunday in between games. They did a great job with getting the boys drinks, taking orders and generally putting up with them! Food was good and hit the spot which led to a big 3-2 win!! I haven't eaten at Yanni's for several years. I think it's just because I live closer to places I like that serve similar food, but who can remember at this point? I ordered an 8 inch meatball and sausage grinder with onions, peppers, sauce and cheese by phone. It was ready on time. The sliced meatballs and sliced sausage were both pretty good. The cheese was well melted and the vegetables were appropriately cooked. I could have used more sauce to balance things. The bread type was fine. It was a bit overcooked, but tasted decent in any event. I would order takeout from Yanni's again. Four Stars. read more

There's a reason places are busy. Yanni's hits all of them. Good food and good service. Dining in or picking up, you get quick attention. People waiting for orders are kept up to date constantly. The phone calls come in steady. The restaurant isn't too big, like four rows of four booths. Always loaded with regulars and locals but new customers always seem to be treated well. Curbside delivery during Covid! Everyone in my family loves Yanni's. For a socially distant mother's day this year I went and picked up my mom's favorites from Yanni's-a small Buffalo chicken pizza (see my previous review, it's FANTASTIC) and an order of chicken francais (comes with bread, salad, pasta). During Covid my wife and I have picked up takeout from Yanni's several times and it was easy and delicious. The meals are HUGE, enough for 3 meals. Support this great business. read more

Haven't been to yannis in many years and still doesn't disappoint. Our waitress was amazing I couldn't complain if wanted to. The place isn't that fancy inside. I'm glad we got there when we did as they seems to be slammed with pickup orders when we left. We had the seafood stuffed mushrooms and fried mozz. Probably should have stopped there as I was basically full. My daughter had the chicken Marsala nice deep rich flavor on the sauce. My wife had the teriyaki grinder. All the food was amazing. I was seriously wow'd tonight. Like "birthday dinner meal" wow'd...and it's not even my birthday. Yanni's is a family-owned/operated restaurant located in the center of Newington. They specialize in Italian, Greek and American food. I always come here for the calamari because the portion is huge and you just can't go wrong with the price. However, I think I may have found my new go to meal there tonight! Before the big reveal, here's a few things you should know. Your server will always start your visit with a basket of fresh, hot white and wheat bread. Staple. Love it. There are so many great starters on the menu, but I highly recommend trying the calamari. For dinner, my friend ordered the Meatloaf from the specials menu that came with either soup or salad and choice of a starch (rice, mashed potatoes, baked potato or pasta) and veggies. The meals are so big at Yanni's that the veggies and potatoes come on a completely different plate! I also ordered from the specials menu- Sweet Potato Crusted Salmon with a Honey Mustard Glaze. The glaze is what made it a special, but fear not, the Sweet Potato Crusted Salmon is actually on the menu. It was one of the biggest, thickest pieces of salmon that I have ever had in my life. No joke. The sweet potato and glaze paired with the salmon was amazing. Our server, Andrea told us that sometimes they even make an orange ginger glaze for the salmon. I promised her that I would be back to try that variation. Thanks for the tip, Andrea! Tonight was one of those unexpected dinners that you wake up in the morning thinking about, wishing you had left a little for lunch the next day. Sadly, it was so good, there won't be any leftovers tomorrow...lol Yanni's menu has something for everyone. So happy to see the dining room open again. Yanni's is definitely a staple of Newington. This has been our go to spot with our move to Newington. The pizza, calzones, grinders have all been SO good. This is the comfort food to get. The portions are large and the quality is very good. Some of our favorites grinders are the chicken parm, eggplant parm, meatball, and sausage. These are also amazing in the calzone form! We're also huge fans of the greek, Hawaiian, margarita, and meat lovers pizzas. They aren't over topped nor are they lacking toppings. read more

We,party of 4, went to dinner last night. We waited over 45 minutes for our orders to arrive. 2 orders were their open faced turkey special. Both were disgusting in presentation, 1/2" slabs of turkey loaf and both orders included the loaf end cuts with cold blobs of stuffing. Serving the restaurant was obviously second to the take out. I have never eaten at Yanni's restaurant, but I have had their takeout and delivery. We got their buffalo chicken pizza delivered the other night and it hit the spot. It was loaded with chicken, cheese, and sauce. It came with a side of Blue cheese dressing, which is perfect for drizzling and crust-dipping. Among Greek pizzas, I think Yanni's is a great option. Their prices are good too. I wish they offered more Greek dishes, but I've been happy with what I tried so far. Finally, I called and ordered takeout on a lazy Sunday night. Teeming with regulars in their booths and at the tables. I was likely greeted and confirmed my order. The ever anticipated WHOLE grinder was ready and the two medium pies still in the oven. I don't mind being a little early, so I can take in the scene, scope out the behind counter action, and the plates of food en-route to the tables.
