    Eggplant platter

I came here at 5:30 on a Thursday with a friend. There were no other customers in there and we waited for a few minutes to be greeted and seated. That made me a bit unsure of this place. However, our server was very kind and helpful as he answered all of our questions about the menu. I cannot remember the names of the meals we ordered but I took pictures and both of us were highly impressed with everything! I also ordered a dessert which was delicious as well. I have been one other time since my first visit and I was extremely impressed with the friendly service and delicious food. I can't wait to go back!

Really nice place with really good food. The owner is very nice! Service is a little bit slow but in the same time it's nice not to feel rushed. Perfect place for a Sunday dinner or catching up with friends.

This hidden gem was recommended to me and I've been telling everyone I know about this place!! The food was authentic and delicious. Reasonably priced and generous portions. Service was great, staff is very friendly and it's beautifully decorated. Give this place a try, you'll thank me.

On a trip, our party of 3 was looking for something to grab for lunch, as our initial option was closed for the New Year. I scouted out the location as a Mediterranean spot, hoping it would satisfy the other two. We pulled into the plaza and saw plenty of parking available. At the front desk, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The room was large, clean and open, without over-the-top decor. Beyond the lights near the kitchen doors, the low lighting in the dining area was supplemented by the afternoon sun. I am not sure how it would look in the evening, though. I wish we got their names, but those helping with waiting the tables were just as kind. The woman who took our order happily fulfilled the "surprise me" for my parent's drink, and they were happy with its fresh mint taste, and a hint of lemon with an apparent slight feeling of carbonation. We ordered baba ganoush, and got my request for warm pita (as much as we'd ask for!). It had freshness and acidity, a good helping of fresh chopped veggies, with the familiar smoky eggplant taste of other baba ganoush I've had still present. I would note that others I've had were almost entirely eggplant, which is my personal preference. The beef gyro was Middle Eastern style (no fries like some might be used to), with more veggies, and a chosen side of hummus. The olive oil on the hummus definitely made itself known with its pleasant natural bitterness. Now, the main reason why my parent asked me to write a review was the chicken kebab. And I would agree. The chicken was properly juicy, unlike every other chicken kebab my parent and I had ever gotten before. When I cut along the grain, the knife went right through. Often, I've had kebabs come with plain roasted veggies, but these had a sauce, and the carrot had caramelization. At $26.99, it was a bit more expensive than I'd expect for the portion size, but the quality absolutely made up for it. My parent was so happy that they saved the location to bring my other parent to in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first time dining at Zaytoon. The restaurant is very comfortable with a very welcoming decor. I had the kibbeh appetizer with tahini sauce. It was so hot and fresh. For dinner I ordered the grilled lamb and chicken combination. It was served with rice, salad and hummus. One scent of the aroma from the rice and you know it was going to taste great. Perfectly seasoned. The hummus was smooth and flavorful. Plenty of pita bread for it. There was so much food I couldn't finish it. I Got to take home a mini meal of everything. My servers Jazmine and Ziad got everything right. They were always available but not in the way. A great experience from start to end. Put down your phone snd go there now.

Greek salad with salmon, would not get the Greek salad again. The salmon was the highlight for sure!!!

I have been twice and have not loved anything I have tried yet. BYOB and the spot next door being full with a long wait is actually what made me go back the second time to try something else. I'm not sure I will be back. I love a Greek salad, but whatever I had here did not taste like a Greek salad. Service is friendly overall I guess, but so slow. Even though I've never been there when it's packed, the food seems to take forever to come out. Then you have to flag someone down for more water while you're hanging out waiting for your food or during your meal. So, the space is overall clean and pretty, big open and airy, but the food is slow and lacking for me. I'd probably say closer to 2.5 stars even, but BYOB absolutely bumps it up to a 3 without question. There is a liquor store in the same plaza, so get some wine and be prepared to be here a while if you're giving it a try.

The food and service here was absolutely amazing. I was treated here like an absolute king. I have absolutely zero complaints about the food service time it took or anything at all, everything was amazing. The ambiance and the setting here is absolutely incredible.

I absolutely LOVE Zaytoons! The cozy, vibrant decor sets the perfect vibe and the staff is so welcoming and friendly. And the food? Wow! Every dish I tried was delicious. The portions are generous, so it's the perfect spot to split a meal with someone. That said, my friends decided to take half the meal home for lunch the next day... but trust me, it's hard not to finish everything! Plus, the BYOB option makes it even more fun. You can walk next door to pick up your favorite drink and bring it over to enjoy with your meal--how cool is that? Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a fun place to eat, Zaytoons is the perfect choice. It's even a great first date spot! You get the relaxed vibe of picking out your drink together, then enjoying an amazing meal. Highly, *highly* recommend!

Another hit for Omar's second Zaytoon restaurant!! We were so happy to finally try this hot spot in WeHa since we enjoy the original Zaytoon's Bistro so much! We were immediately greeted warmly by owner Omar, who made us feel like family! It was almost like a "welcome home" feeling. Customers are treated SO well here. They listen to our preferences and help you choose something you will truly enjoy! We chose lamb shank for the hubby and a vegetarian platter for me. We saved room for dessert and asked for a recommendation. Everyone loves the dessert, and It did NOT disappoint! Always just wonderful. Plentiful and cooked with love for the cuisine. Nothing comes out of this kitchen short of FaBuLoUs! Their love for this is truly apparent. Staff is also courteous, friendly and attentive. We were also struck by the very lovely and appropriate decor. It's SO comfortable and the beautiful attention to detail is well done! NOTE: Omar is adding a brand new BRICK OVEN for fresh breads and a pastry section coming soon. WOW it just gets better! The Mediterranean diet is one of the most healthy, too! Win-Win! Don't miss your chance to come and find your perfect mediterranean meal! Come meet Omar & tell him we sent you. You can thank me later! Thanks for reading me, I wish you all Happy healthy yelping!

The service was great except the first 15 minutes that nobody was there and an annoying loud noise was very irritating. The Jordanian dish was delicious but I don't recommend falafel.

    Sabrina K.

Came here for the first time on Eid with my family. We really enjoyed everything we had--from the meat cigar appetizer to the grilled chicken kabob and chicken tagine. All of their meat is halal! I will say--the knafeh is one of the best I have ever had (and I've grown up around Palestinian and Jordanians who make it from scratch). The mint tea is extra minty/very tasty. The overall ambiance is great--you can tell they have put a lot of thought and effort into their decor; the tile behind the counter is absolutely stunning. The couple who owns the restaurant were very friendly; we enjoyed our conversation with them. Overall, this a great place for a night out with family or friends; we are so grateful we decided to have Eid dinner here. Looking forward to coming back again!

    Lamb chops!

Omar was a fantastic host in his recommendations for dinner. And the food was excellent and delicious. We will be eating there again soon!

Delicious dessert right out the oven!

Amazing food and atmosphere and great food too. A great flavor in every dish! I really enjoyed my grape leaves which is made fresh here right out of the oven. I really love the family style atmosphere too. The owners are here to ensure a positive experience.

The ambience is magical and inviting and I met with a friend at the bar for their everyday "Social hour". This Mediterranean Bistro had such a delicious menu at great prices. So I had to of course try a variety of dishes. We stared with the Korean cauliflower which was my favorite. It was battered extra crispy and perfectly tossed in a ginger soy glaze. I also tried the Korean sticky bbq ribs, the chicken satay and the tuna tartare tacos. I was extremely happy with them all. Scott our bartender was phenomenal filling the drinks. I enjoyed a Spanish wine, the Secret Garden and the espresso martini. The dessert was even fabulous! A peach parfait made with local fresh peaches from Roger's Orchard. City Kebab is a Middle Eastern kebab restaurant that opened in Hartford, Connecticut in September…read more2023. It was founded by husband and wife Uzbek immigrants Timur Rakhimov and Aziza Djalmamedova. The couple immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010. After over a decade of education, training, and hard work, they decided to try their luck as restaurateurs. They found a space that used to be home to Hook & Ladder Restaurant (right next to Hartford Fire Department's historic South Green Station). The couple hired Turkish immigrant Hasan Korkmaz as their head chef. Together, they curated a menu full of traditional Turkish and Uzbek cuisine that is all prepared in accordance with halal dietary laws. Some of the menu items include kebabs, samsas, falafel, gyro, and mezzo platters. I recently dined at City Kebab while I was in Hartford to see a concert. I checked Yelp to see if there was anywhere good to grab dinner before the show, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine sounded fantastic to me. When I entered, I was greeted by the very friendly co-owner Timur, who said, "I work for my wife. She's the real boss." After being seated, I began to look over the menu. When Timur returned, he tried to recommend that I get gyro. I told him, "Oh no. I know exactly what I want. I'd like to order a variety of small plates to sample. I'm a local food blogger and I want an authentic experience." Timur was just ecstatic and quickly went to give my order to the kitchen staff. I started off first with a small "Mixed Cold Appetizer" (combo of hummus, babganush, haydari, soslu patlican, antep ezme, avocado ezme), the "Falafel" (mixture of chickpeas, parsley, onions, garlic, Middle Eastern spices, deep fried) and a small teapot of "Turkish Black Tea". Timur brought me some complimentary "Ramazan Pidesi" (Turkish Bread) as well as a glass of "Fresh Squeezed Lemonade". He said, "You need to try this!" So far, everything was excellent! For the main course, I had the "Mixed Grill" (mixture of chicken shish, beef shish, kofte, lamb adana, beef & lamb gyro, served w/ white rice, bulgur rice, Mediterranean salad). It was a symphony of Mediterranean flavors! Timur surprised me with a "Pumpkin Samsa" (pumpkin filling in crispy pastry, seasoned with spices, served w/ tomato sauce) and said, "You can't leave without trying this. It's an Uzbek specialty!" It was very tasty! Before the meal was over, he said, "Save some room. I have another surprise for you at the end." He brought me "Künefe with Dondurma" (Turkish ice cream). I had never tried this before. Stuffed with melted mozzarella and then topped with pistachio and almond crumbles, it was simply divine! I repeatedly thanked Timur for his hospitality and for sharing his culinary cultural traditions with me. I had enough leftovers for both my wife and I to have for dinner the following evening. I'll definitely be returning with my whole family. If you're looking for an authentic Middle Eastern culinary experience in Hartford, then look no further than City Kebab!
