(Last visited October 17, 2023.) Often my wife and I dine next door at Beachland Tavern so we've watched the construction of Zaytoon's take place! It seemed like it took a long time, but finally they opened and we got the chance to check them out! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set inside a small plaza right on New Britain Avenue is this gem. There is a private parking lot so that's always super comforting! Once inside the place just OPENS UP to you. It's a huge room that's decorated so well with lots of natural light coming in from the big windows at the front and side. Everything was so straight, clean and neat! It just felt really nice in here, but it was quiet, only a few other tables present, but this place can hold a lot of people. Service: Our server took great care of us and I can't remember having any problems at all. The owner even came over to chat with us for a little bit. Food: B.Y.O.B.! Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I enjoyed everything I had here! I was able to check out the Zaytoon Sampler appetizer that showcases 3 different hummus types and some falafel. Everything tasted authentic, fresh and like it was made with love. I was also able to try their chicken wings which felt baked and were seasoned very well! For my entree I went with the Lamb Shank which was AMAZING! The flavors of the lamb were lighter than that of a lamb chop, but the seasonings were all there. It fell off the bone and it being on a bed of rice with light nuts and pita tied everything together very well. I really enjoyed this. Value: B.Y.O.B. alone makes this place worth it. Lol. But it's a Greek restaurant and it isn't cheap, but it's not fine-dining level either. I think the prices here are very fair. I came here at 5:30 on a Thursday with a friend. There were no other customers in there and we waited for a few minutes to be greeted and seated. That made me a bit unsure of this place. However, our server was very kind and helpful as he answered all of our questions about the menu. I cannot remember the names of the meals we ordered but I took pictures and both of us were highly impressed with everything! I also ordered a dessert which was delicious as well. I have been one other time since my first visit and I was extremely impressed with the friendly service and delicious food. I can't wait to go back! read more

On a trip, our party of 3 was looking for something to grab for lunch, as our initial option was closed for the New Year. I scouted out the location as a Mediterranean spot, hoping it would satisfy the other two. We pulled into the plaza and saw plenty of parking available. At the front desk, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The room was large, clean and open, without over-the-top decor. Beyond the lights near the kitchen doors, the low lighting in the dining area was supplemented by the afternoon sun. I am not sure how it would look in the evening, though. I wish we got their names, but those helping with waiting the tables were just as kind. The woman who took our order happily fulfilled the "surprise me" for my parent's drink, and they were happy with its fresh mint taste, and a hint of lemon with an apparent slight feeling of carbonation. We ordered baba ganoush, and got my request for warm pita (as much as we'd ask for!). It had freshness and acidity, a good helping of fresh chopped veggies, with the familiar smoky eggplant taste of other baba ganoush I've had still present. I would note that others I've had were almost entirely eggplant, which is my personal preference. The beef gyro was Middle Eastern style (no fries like some might be used to), with more veggies, and a chosen side of hummus. The olive oil on the hummus definitely made itself known with its pleasant natural bitterness. Now, the main reason why my parent asked me to write a review was the chicken kebab. And I would agree. The chicken was properly juicy, unlike every other chicken kebab my parent and I had ever gotten before. When I cut along the grain, the knife went right through. Often, I've had kebabs come with plain roasted veggies, but these had a sauce, and the carrot had caramelization. At $26.99, it was a bit more expensive than I'd expect for the portion size, but the quality absolutely made up for it. I thoroughly enjoyed my first time dining at Zaytoon. The restaurant is very comfortable with a very welcoming decor. I had the kibbeh appetizer with tahini sauce. It was so hot and fresh. For dinner I ordered the grilled lamb and chicken combination. It was served with rice, salad and hummus. One scent of the aroma from the rice and you know it was going to taste great. Perfectly seasoned. The hummus was smooth and flavorful. Plenty of pita bread for it. There was so much food I couldn't finish it. I Got to take home a mini meal of everything. I have been twice and have not loved anything I have tried yet. BYOB and the spot next door being full with a long wait is actually what made me go back the second time to try something else. I'm not sure I will be back. I love a Greek salad, but whatever I had here did not taste like a Greek salad. Service is friendly overall I guess, but so slow. Even though I've never been there when it's packed, the food seems to take forever to come out. Then you have to flag someone down for more water while you're hanging out waiting for your food or during your meal. So, the space is overall clean and pretty, big open and airy, but the food is slow and lacking for me. I'd probably say closer to 2.5 stars even, but BYOB absolutely bumps it up to a 3 without question. There is a liquor store in the same plaza, so get some wine and be prepared to be here a while if you're giving it a try. read more

Another hit for Omar's second Zaytoon restaurant!! We were so happy to finally try this hot spot in WeHa since we enjoy the original Zaytoon's Bistro so much! We were immediately greeted warmly by owner Omar, who made us feel like family! It was almost like a "welcome home" feeling. Customers are treated SO well here. They listen to our preferences and help you choose something you will truly enjoy! We chose lamb shank for the hubby and a vegetarian platter for me. We saved room for dessert and asked for a recommendation. Everyone loves the dessert, and It did NOT disappoint! Always just wonderful. Plentiful and cooked with love for the cuisine. Came here for the first time on Eid with my family. We really enjoyed everything we had--from the meat cigar appetizer to the grilled chicken kabob and chicken tagine. All of their meat is halal! I will say--the knafeh is one of the best I have ever had (and I've grown up around Palestinian and Jordanians who make it from scratch). The mint tea is extra minty/very tasty. The overall ambiance is great--you can tell they have put a lot of thought and effort into their decor; the tile behind the counter is absolutely stunning. The couple who owns the restaurant were very friendly; we enjoyed our conversation with them. We have a second Zaytoon in West Hartford, and this one is about 7 minutes closer to my house. That's great news, because I love Lebanese and Mediterranean food. It's one of my Top 5 favorite world cuisines and I don't eat it often enough. My wife and I shared the beet dip and I ordered the lamb and chicken combo gyro bowl as my lunch. We also split a carrot juice that had kiwi and other fruit. The purple from the beet dip and the orange from the juice were so vibrant and really popped. The flavors and textures were great too. The pita for the dip was a very thin style. It was fine, but my wife and I agreed that it was the least enjoyable part of the meal. I liked my Gyro Bowl. The flavors were light and bright. The meat was good quality and I liked the sauce squiggle over the top. The salad was nice and acidic. The rice had good yellow color and was well executed. I tried my wife's Cold Lebanese Vegetable Bowl. It had hummus, tabouli and baba ghanoush. All good versions. Service was friendly, accommodating and attentive. There is a large seating area and I doubt you'll have a hard time getting a table for the foreseeable future since they're basically brand new and ramping up their business. This place will require me to visit multiple times because just one visit is t enough. My wife and I started with the spicy hummus, sorry no picture, but it was the best we've had in the Hartford area. My wife went with a great salad with grilled chicken, no pic but she shared a bite and the chicken had so much flavor any salad would be amazing. I had the Dajaj Musakhan and the flavor is beyond words, it's an experience. The juices seem to be absorbed by the grilled onions when combined with the rice and meat made eat bite wonderful. The owner checked on us and we told him it was amazing and so he recommended desert for us. Knafeh is very famous in the Middle East and now it's one of my favorites. Sweet cheese, almost like that of a cheese cake, with pastry dough and either honey or syrup make a delightful end to an incredible dining experience. Our waitress was top notch with her recommendations and the atmosphere was cozy and added to the enjoyment. Will visit again to try new dishes. read more

I went early here to dinner last night. When i arrived, only one table was taken. After i arrived 4 more tables were taken. However, all of the tables got their food before me. I had been waiting a half hour before i got any food. I ordered the combination gyro. It wasn't the ground meat on the spit that you usually get. It was leftover pieces of pork, chicken and beef that were reheated. They were so hard i could barely bite into them. Also they served me lukewarm water when i arrived. I had to ask for ice. The pita that came with the dinner wasn't heated up, so i asked for it to be heated. It still didn't taste very good. The last time i came here was a few months ago. I came here with a couple of friends. We had to wait for an hour for dinner. Why would i ever think of coming here again? read more

They are BYOB currently -there is a package store in the same parking lot if you want something and you didn't plan ahead 3.). Ordered the lamb chops with hummus, came with salad and we had to get the hummus delivered after to the table after the fact. My friend thought the lams chops ewr tasty and a great value for the price - if you like lamb, hurry up and get here :) 4.). Food didnt come out at the same time - all I ordered was the salad and it was the last thing to show up after everyone else's food was getting cold and they had to start eating without me - why not prepare the salads before you start cooking the hot food ? 5.). when they asked you to pay, there was no check presented - just a device and we were a party of 4 that wanted to split the check - they solved for it but maybe it hasn't happened that often to them yet The decor is nice and parking is pretty easy especially when the martial arts place isn't having a class. either way, we didnt have a hard time finding a spot. read more

We went to this restaurant on a random Saturday evening as a family of 4 (2 younger kids). This place is wide open and airy with a nice but somewhat understated setup. About the only knock is that one would not go to the place for the ambiance, although there is nothing wrong with it honestly. The food taste, portions and service are so good however the ambiance takes a back seat. We started with the Kibbeh. Good portion size for cost and tasty. The Tahini sauce was a nice balance with the Kibbeh. I personally would not have minded a touch more acidity/lemon and we ended up ordering some slices for the table, but the kids could not wait to eat theirs up as served. For the meal, we split a Chicken Kabob and a Mixed Grill Kabob meal. All of the meats were seasoned well and represented the culture and food perfectly. If you're looking for spice, ask for some on the side as these are not seasoned spicy. These meals also came with a lightly dressed salad and a hummus and pita plate. The hummus was tasty and as before, a squeeze of lemon over the plate took it up a notch. Oh and don't forget this is a byob place so hit up a store on your way in or the store in the same plaza. No corkage fee either and this allowed us to get a nice wine for a great cost to go with the meal. All in all, a definite hit for the whole family and a place we will be back to again. Sorry I forget to take pics of the food but it was eaten so quickly I completely forgot. At only one month old, Zaytoon's had light enough traffic on a Friday night that reservations were not needed...yet. Greeted at the door by a gregarious Omar, owner, and quickly seated, our group of four were encouraged to peruse a menu that included many vegetarian options. Omar's suggestions of "you should try..." "homemade" "we make it here" received continuous nods from my son. Within short shrift, our table was full of delectable plates, and we were ready to dive into a tapas style dinner. The tabouleh, a staple for my visits to Mediterranean restaurants, was beyond perfect. I cannot recall having tabouleh so light and fresh. The stuffed grape leaves were quite nice. I absolutely loved the lightness of the salad! Service was good, with Omar and a waiter checking in often. As a professional photographer, I often pitch my services to restaurants when I love their food. If I lived closer, and not 3000 miles away, I would absolutely want to capture the love that Omar pours I to his dishes. After reading my friend Jason's review, I knew I had to go check out Zaytoon Mediterranean for myself. My family and I went here last week. Zaytoon Mediterranean is brand new they've now been open for two weeks. It looks very nice inside, with white and blue tablecloths covering the tables. The owner, Omar came to chat with us quite frequently during our visit. We started off with the Beet Dip to share. It came with pita bread for dipping. This was a rich beet color, it had under notes of lemon. It was pretty good, but my friend has made this much better. They don't serve alcohol here, you're welcome to bring your own. They had some delicious freshly squeezed juices. I got the mint lemonade. This was zesty, and refreshing, tasted a bit like a virgin Mojito. For our meals, my mom and I ordered the lamb gyro, there must have been some I confusion since both of us received the platters instead. This was a lot of food and about $10 more each. My dad had the Shrimp in Tzatziki. This was very flavorful and delicious! I enjoyed my Gyro Platter. The hummus was delicious, the lamb was tender off the grill. I could do without the rice. I also got the Pistachio baklava, it was pretty good but a bit dry. Overall, my biggest disappointment is that we received the wrong orders. I have been waiting for this restaurant to open for a while. So last week for girls night we headed off to Zatoon! It was awesome that we were able to make a reservation for our group. Parking was ample. It is also BYOB with no corkage fee. Who doesn't love that? The restaurant is huge, with lots of seating available. The owner came to our table to introduce himself and gave our group some recommendations on what to order. The food came out in a timely fashion and wow are the portions generous! According to my table, the mix seafood grill was excellent. It consisted of salmon, shrimp and scallops. I had the beef kofta which I found the beef to be a bit dry but the side salad was so fresh with olives and feta cheese. The braised lamb dish was tender and came with a red sauce. The owner suggested the dessert sampler and boy was he on point! All of the treats were tasty! The only downside was that it took a while to get the the check and we had to request an actual paper bill as they were just going to swipe our card with out actually viewing the itemized bill. Stop by here while on a road trip from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts. We ordered Jordanian Lamb not knowing it was shank from the description. The meat was tender but not as flavorful as we had expected from the description. The rice with pine nuts was delicious. The yogurt sauce was watery and didn't add much to the flavor. The pita was hard and dry (not sure if it was supposed to be for looks or eaten? The dish was smaller than expected for the price. We also ordered the combination gyros plate. It was delicious and came with a good amount of food for the price. The meat was flavorful, hot (temperature) and fresh. I liked that the meat was real pieces of meat not the typical processed gyros meat. It was cooked with onions that were really good. The rice, fries, and salad were also great. I'd order this again the next time I visit. The service was excellent. The owner even stopped by the table to greet us. Our waters were filled and we were well taken care of.
