I do think $17 for a platter and $5 for fries are a tad much, but I guess it's the location that adds to the price. I got the lamb gyro and the meat was tender, with a filling portion of vegetables. My only two complaints are: the tzatziki sauce was a little too spicy for me and overwhelmed the flavors. It would have been nice if there was something to counteract it like olive oil and/or feta. And the wrap was overstuffed with ingredients. I'm glad they had authentic shawarma on the vertical grills/broilers, and didn't just cook the meat on the grill and call it shawarma. Also, a side of hummus is a great option, if you are not interested in ordering the full appetizer plate. The combination platter was better than expected, and definitely the best Mediterranean platter I've had in the Hartford area. The gyro was stuffed and well worth the price. The hummus was tasty, but very dry. I asked for olive oil and the waiter mentioned that they don't have any, which I thought was very odd. Aside from that, the service was quick, the ambiance was nice, and there was outdoor seating which was great. We love Sam's Gyro - I would say they have the most authentic gyro and greek salad compared to the many other restaurant I've been to here in CT (we are from CA where the selection is much greater and Sam's is the closest we've been able to find). Sam's has a nice but small patio for seating, this was super nice as we came the day after outdoor seating opened due to COVID. We arrived early and snagged 1 table, and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Hubby and I both ordered Gyro plates, me with double salad and the only thing I regret is doing double salad! Hubby said the rice was the highlight of his dish! :) The white sauce they pour over the gyro is delicious as is the dressing for the Greek salad. Pita and tzatziki were fresh and delicious too! We tried geeks salads that were exceptional, a side of hummus that came with warm pitas and split a chicken panini with pesto, roasted red peppers and cheese...warm gooey and the chicken was cooked so it was tender but still juicy. The salad dressing for the salad was small in portion but to tasty I'd go back for just that, and the hummus was seasoned to perfection. Hummus is one of those dishes that may be common but there is a craft to the taste and consistency and they have mastered it. Sams gyro is one of my favorite places, their food is awesome and they give you pretty large portions. I used to work in this area and Sams gyro was one of my favorite go to lunch spots in West Hartford Center. What I also like about this place is their baklava, I don't always get it lately, because I'm actually trying to lose weight lol however, it makes a nice tasty treat. They have a dance floor, and occasionally I see signs for dancing events and classes, but I'm never here for that. I assume it takes place at night. I have been here for dinner before, but it just happens to be on nights there ISNT any dancing. Lol I will continue to come back to Sams gyro for golf Mediterranean food. DONT GO HERE. OWNERS ARE CRAZY. I never write reviews, but my terrible confrontation with the owner made me feel compelled to write something. So, I work right next door. I called to order a side of fries just as an afternoon snack. The woman rudely tells me they don't do orders of fries over the phone to just come in if I want that. I explained how close I was & would be right over. She agreed to make them. I walk over to get my fries & once again, she rudely is explaining to me again to order them in person because that's just "how they do things here" which not gonna lie, caused me to have a bit of an attitude at this point. I just couldn't understand the problem with ordering a simple order of fries. Long story short - It ended with this woman denying me my fries for no reason. She literally made them & threw them in the garbage right in front of me. I was so uncomfortable at this point, there was so much tension. I go to leave & the male owner got in my face, telling me I need to go back in & apologize to this woman for treating her the way I did. Obviously being a paying customer didn't matter. It was truly the worst, most uncomfortable customer service I've ever encountered in my life. Definitely never EVER going back. They cook the chicken to order so that and the beef are nice and hot. They then overstuff the gyro pita with meat, sauce, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and red onion. They were huge! The young man working was so sweet and friendly. Apparently, his dad owned it when it was Gyro House, but they sold the business and now "Sam" is the new owner. The young man still works there though and is doing a great job! We got our gyros to go but there is some limited casual seating for people to eat on site and a TV. Came in on a Saturday night at 10:30, the live music was rocking and calling out to me after satiating my Ben and Jerry's fix down the road. The lamb/beef gyro is delicious. It was absolutely delicious - very well seasoned meat and all the extras were just right (tzatziki, cucumber, onion, the pita). The gyro was big... definitely enough on its own to fill me up during lunch. Slightly too messy (becuase it was so stuffed with deliciousness) for me to give 5 stars. I also enjoyed the decor - kind of weird branches and leaves across the ceiling, animal skin (maybe faux but idk) and a real hookah bar vibe.
