Love this fun walk. It could go up to 2 miles going around. Or you can do the shorter loop which…read morewould be 1 mile. You might get lucky and see some garden snakes, deer, mice, bunnies, bald eagles, beavers, and salmon! Maybe even a few poor pups that get too excited and falling into the waters! My pup fell in once too, but I've seen quite a few myself. It gets pretty packed when it's a nice day out. The doggy area is a nice spot to let your dogs make some friends! During the spring time the little flowers bloom along the fence, it's very pretty. The only qualm I have is with some dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs. But other than that it's an enjoyable walk!

My two Labrador's absolutely love the trail, and of course all the places to smell and get their paws wet, and a quick drink in the creek. Today is Silverdale's Whaling days (7.25.2015), and with all the festivities and the parade, and the walk/run down Silverdale way, probably not easy to get to the YMCA this morning, so lets walk the trail. An overcast and drippy morning...excellent weather for getting out. I just love this trail. I have watched various wetlands restorations here over the years and always thought this was being performed by volunteers. I don't think that is the case with the current projects. Quite a number of heavy equipment, and large areas being worked. Very nice to see. The paths are all clearly marked, and easy for most people to walk. Plus they have tables and benches along the trail should you want or need to catch your breath. So, go enjoy this beauty.

We thought we would do a simple 2.5 miles in and out but ended up doing 5.5 in and out. The trail is paved 100% of the way. I got an electric scooter recently and have gone on a run or two on it on some bike trails. My…read morefirst run was on the Scott Pierson trail in Tacoma which ends at the Narrows Bridge. There isn't a trail that resumes right after at the bridge on the Gig Harbor side but the Cushman Trail isn't far from the bridge at all. You just cross the viaduct that goes over the toll area for the bridge , get on the road that heads west and before long you will come across a sign indicating that you are at the Cushman Trail. So arguably it's a continuation trail but probably not technically. This is a great trail as it is well maintained and is wide and has lanes for bike, walking and scooter traffic. As you head into Gig Harbor you will see a sign that you are entering the city limits of Gig Harbor. A couple of times the trail becomes part of a road or a sidewalk but the signage is great and as long as you pay attention to the signs you won't lose the trail. I was here just after the trees hit their peak with Autumn color but the Cushman Trail is great to take in in that regard. After hitting the city limits there were signs for each crossing that indicated that motorized vehicles were not allowed. So yeah. my scooter sort of fits under that. Nobody seemed to mind that though and the trail was busy. I even saw other electric scooters as well. I didn't get to ride my scooter as much as one would think because there are several pretty steep hill grades on this trail especially towards the middle to end but it was ok...I was enjoying the scenery. My scooter doesn't do hills well let alone steep ones so that's why so much walking happened for me. For the walker or the bicyclist those hill grades would be great for exercise. Cushman Trail is a very nice trail to explore much how it is with visiting the town in general.

In fact, there were quite a few times, where I just had to pull my feet out of the pedals & walk a little. Overall, I probably had to walk about 10 times going uphill. But---once you turn around. The roller coaster is on! I'm a bit of a fraidy cat, but I barreled down the trail pretty fast. I'm not a veteran of singletrack, so I had to really look out for roots, big rocks, holes, etc.---cuz I didn't want to eat it. So it took about 20min up this trail and about 5min down. It was a workout and hella fun downhill. There are a few ladder bridges and other types of bridges on the single track trail. If you want some serious dirt, give these trails a try. I also took the road/bigger trail which is at the very bottom of the gulch/valley. This is more of a road, and it's fairly straight and it goes up from the trailhead (paralleling the train tracks). So, there is talk of selling off this land for development. That would be a total shame Check out the website for this area and get the lowdown on this trail system's future. Hopefully Mukilteo will by this area and keep it as a cool place to hike and ride.
