Overall, we had a good experience. Our vehicle was in good condition and was brand new. But there was quite a bit of confusion when we arrived when they tried to switch us from the jeep that we reserved to a higher priced Bronco that we did not request. There was a lot of back and forth with the staff but in the end they honored the original price. They took us in a van to a remote location to pick up our bronco. Do NOT fall for the Bronco special - TERRIBLE service & zero accountability I booked the Bronco special directly on Aldo's website, paid $553.50 in advance for the day, and was so excited to spend my birthday exploring Block Island. We got off the ferry at 10 a.m., waited almost 45 minutes for their shuttle, and when it finally arrived, the woman checking us in looked confused, asked for my name twice, then told me she didn't see my booking. I pulled up my email confirmation from their website, and the look on her face told me immediately that someone had seriously messed up. She went off to "talk to someone," came back, and walked us over to another staff member who finally admitted they had "accidentally" given away the Bronco I booked and paid for. Instead of fixing it, they told me they had nothing else available until 2 or 3 p.m. on a day when our ferry left at 5. That would've given us barely any time with the car we paid for. No apology beyond "sorry," no meaningful resolution. It wasn't until my boyfriend was visibly upset that the guy said, "Let me try calling around and see if anyone else has something." That's how we ended up being sent to another company (Old Harbor) to pick up a PT Cruiser. They walked us 10 minutes to that location, we waited another 35-40 minutes in line there because no one knew what the Aldo's guy was talking about. Finally, their boss called and told them to give us the PT Cruiser. By the time we actually got in a car, it was 12 p.m. -- we lost two full hours of our island time standing around waiting because of their mistake. We returned the car hours early because it was dangerous to drive (more on that in my Old Harbor review) and went back to Aldo's to let them know. They offered $200 back out of the $553 we paid -- for my birthday completely ruined, for their mistake, and for hours lost. No real apology, no ownership. As of now, I'm still waiting for the refund to even show up in my account. I've emailed and called multiple times trying to resolve this and secure a fair refund, yet ironically the only response I have received from them was an automatic email asking me to "review my Bronco rental." .... That being said if you're considering the Bronco special at Aldo's, don't. They clearly overbook, can't manage reservations, and when they screw up, you're left scrambling to salvage your day. I thought the people at this location knew what they were talking about, and were very patient with me as I chose a bike. I'm a cyclist and I was very picky (one bike had a creaky bottom bracket and another had a wobbly wheel so the brake rotor was noisy), but the bike I got was very good...a Cannondale. I was a pedestrian standing Infront of the shop when one of their customers literally RAN ME OVER while learning to ride on the streets. No one from Aldos came to check on me or my injuries. When I confronted the "owner" he lied about who he was and laughed in my face about my injuries and told me to go "call the cops" when I asked for video footage. Most rude and arrogant people. False advertising and unsafe vehicles. The online picture shows the Jeep without doors however this was not allowed. Plus the Jeep had lights, noises and the steering wheel barely worked. When I turned the Jeep jerked, squealed and we almost got stuck each time. It was very unsafe especially around the public. read more

This place was the biggest scam. We received a discount coupon from 1661 Inn for staying on the property for the weekend and it was supposed to give us a special deal for bike rentals. We went to the bike shop in the afternoon and they told us it was $20 for a bike for the day. We told them we had a discount coupon from the Inn and they said, "Oh, there are different rates for people who have the discount coupon, for the day the bikes will be $25." Um what? That is not a discount. $20 a day for people without a coupon, $25 a day for people with one. So I said to the guy, no, the discount coupon means that the price should be less than $20. He replied, "Yeah but not everyone stays at the 1661 Inn so we have different rates." Again, what? This made absolutely no sense and we laughed at how much they were trying to scam people. We obviously paid the $20 rate and a half hour into biking one of our friends bikes completely broke down. He had to walk his bike from off on the island back to the bike shop. The bikes were in crappy shape, the baskets had large slots so several times we had cell phones and belongings fall out of the basket during our ride. I watched the staff receive bikes from people returning them and put them right back in the rack without checking tire pressure or anything like that. I wouldn't recommend this place and they left a horrible taste in my mouth with those rates. Oh and the keys they gave us for the bike lock didn't work. read more

We were very disappointed with Aldo's. We reserve and pre-paid for two mopeds for 12-4 on this past Friday. When we arrived a little before noon, we were told that they didn't have any mopeds left and the soonest some would be coming back would be 1:00. We checked a few other moped rental places but they were all out of mopeds at that time (which is why we reserved them ahead of time.) We settled for getting the mopeds at 1:00. I asked for a discount for their error and our inconvenience but got nothing. We will not be using Aldo's in the future. read more

STAY AWAY!!! This experience was a total nightmare. Please read!!! I choose this place since they offered a deal on a 3 hour early bird special but the old adage "You get what you pay for" holds true. The first mopeds didn't start should have taken it as a sign. The rear tire which I should have checked was completely bald - no tread see pic below. The tire blew about a mile from the rental location. This could have been a very dangerous situation had it occured in traffic or on one of the many sharp turns traveling downhill with my wife of the back. After serveral calls (got the machine) I informed the office and was told someone would be out. After about 45 min, a replacement moped was delivered. I was upset (never used profanity nor did I directly call any employee any names) AFTER being told it was an "act of god" and the tire was "a little bit bald". This was an egregious example of lack of maintenance that was very much preventable. One of guys that claimed to be one of the "managers" placed the replacement moped on the opposite side of the ramp to the truck used to load the broken bike. When I accidently knocked the ramp off the truck, I was told I could walk back. The "manager" informed me I was not hurt and he didn't give a s%$# and he needed to get back to run his business. I was acting like a "Jerk". When I asked for a ride back in the truck, he told me to "just take the F%&ing thing back". Upon my return I took several other pics of mopeds in similar condidtion. I can't give anything but 5 stars. I was on the island for the first time last month. Not wanting to drive, the plan was to rent bicycles to go around the island, thinking it would be fine. DONT DO IT. MOPED is the way to go. The island is bigger than you think I got talking to the guy behind the desk while filling out the paperwork and he was awesome. Very friendly and informative. Long story short... he ended up giving us 3 hours for the price of 1! If you have never been in control of a moped, don't worry. The more you relax, the easy it is. Before they let you ride away they just made sure you have the basics down. Ride down the street and back. I think renting a moped is a MUST do if you're on the island for a few days. read more

The worst experience.. I thought I was in a Seinfeld episode...we made and paid for 4 mopeds and when we went to get them...NO MOPEDS..."there was a "glitch" in their system, they said. We have been coming to the island for many years, and I have to say, Aldo's library of Boss Cruiser bikes are getting really busted. We rented three bikes and two had bad shifters. The mopeds don't seem to be much better; as we were coming back with our bikes, we heard a woman roll in with a moped with a busted speedometer. The shop has some road bikes which appear to be in better repair, and once we switched out for the road bikes, we were fine.They really need to retire some of these bikes and make sure their equipment works. read more

Great service! And great Early bird special! One of the highlights of the island was cruising around on the mopeds. Definitely go for the lengthier amount of time if you are debating. Three hours was awesome, glad we didn't take the two hours. We could have used them longer had we not had other activities planned. Mopeds are a must do on the island. They were fun and easy to use. I had had no prior experience, within minutes, I had the hang of it. They do give you a brief tutorial to make sure that you are first comfortable on the moped. read more

Staff was "ok"... not overly nice but not rude either, and they set up and adjusted the bikes for us. Many of the bikes have baskets. The bad: (we rented bikes, not mopeds): the condition of the bikes could definitely have been better, but they did the job, and were acceptable, I guess, for the $20/ day that we paid on Columbus weekend in October. read more

Our bike rental was pretty much fine, once my husband got one of my daughter's bikes to shift correctly. I'm writing this more as a reminder to people to get your license back from them (as they hold on to it during your rental- they should come up with a better system) when you return your bikes. When I realized I had left it, I called and they verified it was there... on the island and I'm back in PA. They assured me they would mail it out the next day, and have assured me two more times in two weeks that they mailed it out. I just spoke to the Block Island PO and she said it wouldn't take two weeks to get here, meaning they likely didn't send it, leaving me to wonder which underage employee is using a 45 year old's license to get into bars Obviously it was my fault that I left it there but I had hoped they could get it in the mail without any trouble. So my advice - don't let them hold on to your license!!! read more

We rented bicycles from these folks today. Service was TERRIBLE. Bikes were even WORSE. We made reservations ahead of time and nothing was waiting for us; first come, first serve. My wife's bike was broken and they ran out of sizes for my son and me so sent us up the street to another location to get bikes. Instead for 7x2 or 7x3 for my wife they only had a 3 speed bicycle. It would have been fine to ride just on the flats but we went to the Lighthouse first; without enough gears she had to walk bike up hills as this part of Block Island is hilly. I know these are rental bicycles but at least after12 when we got there, the selection was not good and the quality was very poor. Of course, my credit card was charged immediately. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Can't tell you if anyone is better but DON"T RENT from ALDO'S read more

If you're going to rent a moped on Block Island, don't bother going anywhere else... just go to Aldo's on Job's Hill Rd. We started our search across the street and were told that the we could only rent for half day because it was a busy weekend. Besides that, the prices were outrageous. We walked across the street to Aldo's and Lucia couldn't have been more accommodating and flexible. We told her what we were trying to accomplish on our moped day and she gave us a great deal with flexible return time. When we came back to pick up the mopeds the next day, Leo was very helpful and pointed out the places to visit. He also allowed us to return the moped by 10AM the following day. This allowed us to to return to our boat after a day of exploring to shower and change and go out to dinner in town. The Moped was great too. Most of the other mopeds in town came with a milk crate for storage, we had a molded locker with a cover and ability to lock our valuables! Great all-around experience dealing with the Aldo's crew. read more

He gave us some recommendations on where to go and a discount, 4 hrs for the price of 2! Mopeds are in really good shape and I had so much fun! I can't say enough about the professionalism this establishment provided. I rented 2 bicycles for 2 days. During the night, one of the bikes was stolen. My hotel manager called and reported the problem. The owner immediately picked me up and drove me to the store and gave me a new bike. No additional charges. They will have my recommendation and my business for life. read more

We were able to get our bikes for $42 for the entire week because we were a large party. We had to go through a few before we were able to settle on one that was working somewhat ok. Some of the bikes gears didn't work properly which was an issue for some of the hills. Furthermore there was this 11 year old kid working dealing with adults. read more

The family also have a bakery next door, which have the best ice cream. And they also owned the Italian restaurant that is 2 doors down. Excellent service with great food. The WORST experience I have ever had. Let me start by telling you that one of the workers there told us to bring the mopeds back to the store at 9pm. We decided to bring them back at 8:30pm and we were approached by one of the owners family members who works at Aldos. He aggressively came up to us on the mopeds calling us all sorts of names and swearing. He told us we were suppose to bring the mopeds back at 7pm he was so worked up that assaulted one of the members in our group for no reason and also came after me. He was held back by the locals because he tried to assault me and threatened me. This is all because one of his coworkers gave us the wrong drop off time. Clearly these wokers are incompetent and dont know how to run a business. Come to find out this aggressive older man was drunk. Do yourself a favor and don't ever go to this place. read more

Awesome! We were able to get a discounted price because we rented 6 mopeds. The mopeds were in great shape and so much fun! They employee who gave us the lesson was very helpful and even ran next to my 17 yr old son during his initial trial of the moped to make sure he didn't get hurt. Everyone was super nice. They were so patient in teaching us and making sure we knew how to safely drive the moped.
