I normally go to this thrift shop to drop off items that I want other people to have that I don't need anymore, on this day around 2weeks ago I was also looking for something else , I saw a Spanish woman who was an employee, I respectfully asked her to assist me with some things. She said she didnt speak English, I ask her to pleases get me an English speaker employee. she totally ignored me and continued. working , A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! I then went to the front & asks to speak with a manager , when the manager called her to ask her what happened she still was unprofessional speaking in her language and being disrespectful!! One thing is I love is a good thrift . I love their selection and all the vintage goodies . I am always in the hunt for vintage kids clothing for my son and I always find a good selection here . It can be a hit or miss sometimes but I always feel the nostalgia when I visit . This happened quite a while ago but still, absolutely ridiculous. I was just mindlessly browsing and I see I corner and I look in it and it's behind the shelves. No big deal I'm thinking and whatever I go to show my friend who I'm with and by the way she bought almost $50 worth of stuff from the store. I show her it as more of a chuckle because we like creepy stuff so we thought it was pretty creepy, nothing crazy though. She buys her stuff and whatever it's all going great and we decide to come back around maybe a week later? As I'm looking for a trash can a security guard stops me and shows a video saved on his phone of me and my friend examining the corner. He then says we need to leave and we're facing a lifetime ban and I go over to my friend to ask why? If you didn't want that corner to be seen why leave it so blatantly uncovered? He says that basically people stash stuff there and he thought we were. I tell him to look closer, there was NOTHING in our hands in the video and it's clear. He agrees with us and goes to show his manager. The manager gives us a nasty look and then he comes back to say although we basically did nothing wrong she still doesn't want us here and we will still be facing a lifetime ban. This thrift shop uses to be a pretty good .but over the years it has went down hill .the quality of there stuff is not that good.but if you are going to shop at any thrift store be aware of what you buy at this particular one you can't return any of the items you purchased. And be mindful that at any thrift store you shop at you should wash the clothes. I never shop at thrift shops. But I needed a couple of t shirts and they were to small for me .I didn't realize it until after I made the purchase. I found out about the no return policy. The atmosphere is not the best up there but this spot helps out people shopping at a discount. for school or for a job interview situation like that But the good thing about this store it is located in gertz mall and they have a nice food court over there .and a really nice jewelry store. read more

Manager has no Customer service training. He accuses people of switching tickets in order to raise final total prices. He also tried to change prices of items at register to raise sales which is fraudulent. He does this technique regularly while inferring his shoppers are liars. His issue is he tried this fraudulent attempt to gain more money on each individual sale while threatening to ban or ban innocent customers which causes long term result of those regular higher spending customers to never come back. Ok...let me first say the good. Every Myunique is amazing (this one included) you can usually find really cool stuff for a deal. I come to this particular store a few times a month and the Bronx store I'm at at least once a week. I spend a lot of money here. But my experience today put a bad taste in my mouth and I had to vent about it. I came in and went to the tshirt rack first and noticed they were price gouging "vintage style" Tupac, Bob Marley and Jimmy Hendrix tshirts. I could understand if we were in a vintage boutique and these shirts were actually old and were this price. HOWEVER, These particular shirts you can currently buy online for $20-30 from stores like Hot Topic, Kohls, etc. The prices at Myunique? $60-80. WHY? This doesn't make sense. These are not collectable you are literally just raising prices an exuberant amount for no reason. You are a thrift store and you receive donations FOR FREE, that is your inventory! There is no reason for tshirts to be priced that much! AT A THRIFT STORE. People shop here because they most likely can't afford full price retail stores. You are SERIOUSLY missing the mark for your customers by doing this. It's not fair and it's really gross. SECOND I filled up my basket with beautiful things, most of them were not discounted colors of the day. I went into the tchotchke section and picked up a piece of stoneware. I inspected it and decided I didn't want it and put it back on the rack and it fell and smashed. I tried to find someone to clean it up and behind me I heard an employee say "that girl over there broke that and she's walking away". Um no? I was trying to find someone to clean up the shards. When I heard her say that I approached her and explained it was an accident, I spend tons of money at Myunique every month and I was going to be paying a lot of money for the items in my basket today. She brought me to the manager and I explained the situation and he was extremely rude and told me it's store policy and then SECURITY came over. Really? Is that necessary? I'm explaining what happened to you because you are a manager of this store and I'm looking for a little empathy. The item by the way was a 1 inch big stoneware piece PRICED AT $14. I'm sorry, but why was this priced for $14? It was small and was chipped already! The manager explained that it's 75% off so I'd only be paying $2 dollars at the most..which I mean 75% off of 14 is more than that but it is really the *principle* of the thing. I was spending over $70 at the store on actual items I wanted and you treated me like a crminal who was trying to steal and was purposefully breaking items. ALso, it needs to be stated again. You are a store who receives DONATIONS for inventory. You overprice your merchandise in general. And nowhere in the store is there a "you break it you buy it" policy. Oh and the piece that was broken? There were still shards all over the floor when I walked back an hour later when I was done shopping. No one even cleaned up the mess. Really? You don't clean up pieces of broken glass when it's all over the floor? I'm a great customer of Myunique, I have been for 10 years since I went to the Brooklyn location 2-3 times a week. I spend real money here and I bring visitors from out of town there and I tell my friends to shop there. I definitely will be telling them to avoid the Jamaica store, which is a shame because I love shopping here. Overpriced merchandise and rude management with 0 empathy for customers. I guess expecting to be treated like a human being and not a criminal is too much to ask for a place I've been a regular at for years. I guess it's Bronx only for me now. Such a shame. read more

This place absolutely sucks. This is the smallest unique I have ever been to in my life. Ive been going to the unique chains all my life. I've been to several uniques. Everywhere you turn there is a huge bulky camera in your face. They have a small selection of clothing for women. They don't even have skirts. I came to look for shorts and they had none. I wasn't even in there for thirty minutes. They didn't even have skirts or lingerie like the locations I have been to. Don't go here unless you're not looking for fashion or want toys or something. This used to be my go-to store. I started my thrifting addiction in this store. But now, it has gone way downhill. Its too small and it smells funny. Theres just too many people shopping at one time. The aisle are so small and everyone is on top of each other. Its super uncomfortable to shop. Its just trashy. The customer service is even worst. The people there look so unhappy, which makes for an unhappy shopping experience for the customer. The staff talk to each other about unrelated work things while they are one floor. For some strange reason, on sale days a fight always breaks out. Super ratchet. At one point, way back in the day, this place was a joy to shop in, but now , its just ... Bleh. I would not recommend going thrifting here. While as advertised, the racks are stuffed and plentiful, it seems that the price of items is at the discretion of managers and staff. Today, after purchasing (at a self-checkout register) a New York Rangers used and stained jersey from the children's section, I noticed there was a security tag still on the item. I asked a staff member if she could remove the tag. She then brought it to several other staff members, who after some time and discussion, came back to me and said I could no longer have the item, and that they would give me a refund. I asked the manager why, and he said it was because the jersey was wrongly priced. I asked how he knew it was wrongly priced, and he could not answer that question. He insisted it was wrongly priced and that he would have to give me my money back. When I asked what the price of the item should be, he said he didn't know, and that the people who price the items would be back the next day. So I followed up by asking how he knew the item was marked incorrectly, if he wasn't the person responsible for pricing each item. I said to him that there seems to be no policy for pricing, and that he arbitrarily decided that the item was more valuable based on no criteria. I pointed out the stains to him, and asked to speak to someone more senior, but he said he was the most senior worker there and he walked away, discussed again with another staff member, and went to get my change. Even though I had purchased the item and had ownership of it, it was taken away from me non-consensually, and I was given no justification for why I could no longer own an item that was, by definition, mine. It was, overall, a very defeating and unfair experience, and as stated, would not return. read more

I usually go to the Westbury location but was surprised to hear they had a queens store. I was here yesterday for the 50% off sale but only had a few minutes to shop because the store was about to close. At first glance they had a pretty good selection but because of the time constraints I couldn't dive all the way in. I picked up a few things items for the kids and headed to the register... The cashier was VERY rude and when I asked her if the sale was going to be continued the next day... "NO NO NO, this is it!!! Today and no more!!!" Now you would think that would be enough for me not to return right? Nope, I'm a glutton for punishment and a sucker for what I think is a good sale... So without hesitation, I returned today to give this place a second chance and a closer look. First... Let me say that the manager in the kids section that was fixing the rack... Amazing!!! She was so pleasant and extremely helpful. So that's why this place even gets 1 star from me. The sales people that work on the floor are HORRIBLE. I get that the place is small and so are the isles but my gosh... 3 different sales women all but knocked me over and stepped into my stroller while they were so called "restocking"'the shelves. No "excuse me", no "I'm sorry". Nothing. Just rude looks and gestures. I finally had to push one of them off of my shoulder and say can you wait until I move?!? Another thing that I noticed is the prices are dramatically higher than the other unique stores. It's actually doubled. Especially on work slacks and blouses. I'm not sure why that is but I was feeling a bit cheated here and I was surprised because of the neighborhood this place is in. So the grand finale of course is the checkout fiasco again... I inform the cashier that I seem to have misplaced my card but I used it yesterday... Is there anyway she can look it up. Of course the answer was given with a rude attitude and her conclusion was that I pay full price or just leave the stuff. A last behind me was kind enough to loan me her card so I can get the 25% off. One of the dvd's didn't have a price on it and from my experience from the other locations is that you call a manager and they price it for you. Not here! She yanked the DVD from MY hand and threw it down behind the register and told me she's not selling it to me. At this point to keep myself from screaming... All I could do was laugh, pay the balance due and stroll my kids and myself out of that place. I will not be returning until they train these people or fire them and hire regular human beings with some sort of customer service background. This whole experience was ridiculous. read more

Just like any other thrift store, there are some great finds in there. I've stumbled across some great pieces there there I wear regularly. Obviously you should wash things before wearing them, and you probably won't find shoes that you would want to wear, but still it's a great place. I've been many times and I'll continue to shop there as long as I live in Jamaica. read more

The Unique on Jamaica avenue is soooo expensive for a thrift shop. A thrift shop is suppose to be affordable. Who wanna pay 14.99 for a used book? They look at the original price of the book and price it from there. Books are not like a house, they do not appreciate. USED bras for $10.00, really? There a lot of items in there that you can get new for cheaper. Run down shoes for 39.99 because they have a designer name on them? THEY ARE USED!! I find the people friendly so far, but they need some diversity in there. Used blanket-25.00? WTF? That's why I like thrifting in LI because they price items as they should be. USED!! How can you have two items of the same with different prices? When I bought it up to the manager he said " well different people price them" Does not MATTER, make the adjustment!! I love thrift stores. I also lived in Jamaica, Queens for over 10 years. I moved away a year after this place took over the old Gertz Mall and I just never had the opportunity to walk in until now. I saw from the other reviews, that two people had horrible experiences and I had the exact opposite. The two cashiers I came across over the course of my shopping were very cordial and polite. I ran into a few floor people filling the racks and they were matter of fact in their movements. The prices are what you'd see in some of the thrift stores in Manhattan and really the jeans are what is higher priced, but no higher than if you went down the street to Gap Factory or Old Navy. They have a lot of inventory and thanks to their taking over the old shoe store space, they have plenty of room to showcase it all. I'm happy to see that Jamaica has another thrift store option other than the Salvation Army location located about a mile away. Being a thrift store lover, this was about on par with what I experience when shopping at other thrift stores. I will definitely return here on my next trip back to NYC. read more

Here is my review. I finally got a chance to go thrifting at Unique(kids and hubby, love you but I got to take my time:). I def have to say that the place is clean and has no musty smell. Everything is neat and VERY organized. Staff was very helpful. But, IMHO it was very expensive for a thrift store. A Kohls winter coat for my son is 25 dollars?? I think not. Great selection of handbags and shoes. Got a cute vintage Espirit handbag, clothes for the kids and hubby(and me:), a basket and cute plates for my boys. Don't think I will go back only because of the prices, but if you live nearby and love to thrift, give it a shot. read more

I used to go here almost twice a week. My mom and I spend about 100-200 each trip. But we never went back the one time my mom spent 130 she was then pulled by the manager and accused for stealing. What the hell could she be stealing if she's spending more than 100 already ? They said they saw her put something in her shirt mind you my moms button on her button down shirt came off because she has huge hugs ANYWAY she went in and the lady showed her when my mom UNBUTTONED her shirt and she still accused her my mom ask what could she possibly take she even opened her shirt because she was so embarrassed the woman manager would accuse her since we go there all the time. She took out her hospital ID and even said to search her damn ssn since they really believed she stole something after making that type of purchase. Also they had a man watch over the customers and he followed us. You'd think if he had followed us the whole time he'd know we haven't stole anything. I went very often to this thrift store. I never thought they'd do something like this to my mom. Mind you EVERYTIME we went in there cops were there and someone was always fighting with the manager and was in their office. The people who run this place are not nice people. I have seen them harass customers time and time again. Once I watched a man grow a bit impatient with the chaos in the store so he picked up his cart and carried it down these 3 little steps so he could get to the register( there were no other available ways around) as he was placing his cart back down a very aggressive manager rushed over to him and just before he could place it on safely on the floor the manager screamed out "don't you dare take that cart down those stairs". The cart was already down, they are 3 very small steps and there was no other way around it, the store was a madhouse. The manager became very aggressive and cornered the man, began speaking down to him, basically yelling inches from the man's face. The man never lost his cool but was clearly unhappy about being spoken to this way. When the man attempted to push is cart in the opposite direction so he could check out, security moved in and trapped the man. The manager then called the police on this man because he didn't "listen to my authority, that's why you're going to jail". That's a verbatim quote. This man did nothing dangerous, put no one in danger. If they really wanted to ask him to leave and refuse his business even that would have been over the top but I could see it I guess. But they tried to have him locked up because he carried the items he was intending to purchase down 3 steps that are intended for customer use. Today I walk into the store wearing my backpack(as when I travel on public transportation I always have it too keep a book, keys, chargers, phone, lunch) I'm browsing the polo shirts when a security guard walks up to me very aggressively and tells me I will have to leave my backpack with someone. I politely ask him if this is store policy and if they have this policy in writing. He becomes enraged, takes an aggressive almost fighting stance on me and lords over me in an attempt to intimidate me. I tell him I'll go up and check my bag. When I get to the front I ask a manager about the policy. She tells me that anyone with a bag must leave it with an employee. I ask if they have a locker, or a safe place to keep my backpack so it and the contents aren't stolen or tampered with. She informs me they do not have such a place that it will be placed in an unattended area, I ask if the area has camera, she says no. I let her know that I'm not comfortable leaving my bag unattended. I also ask her if the policy applies to women's pocketbooks. She says it doesn't. I point out that there are a few women walking around with all kinds of bags, not just pocketbooks mind you, bags quite similar to mine. I inform her that targeting men with bags when women are not held to the same standard is gender biased. I also inform her that if they had a safe secure area they were going to keep my bag I would have no issue at all having it put away. She then tells me that as long as I'm willing to submit to a bag check before leaving I can wear my backpack as I shop. I'm not thrilled with this but at least its somewhere in the middle so I agree. I put my head phones back in and go back to shopping. A few minutes later I feel a very aggressive poking at my back, I take out my ear buds and turn around to find the same security guard chest to chest, in my face asking me "What the F are you doing? I F-ing told you to take the F-ing bag off!!" he then makes an aggressive move to reach for the bag. I inform him of the conversation I just had with his store manager and he calms down but not before spending the next 20 minutes following me around the store like a creep. When it's time to leave I present my bag for inspection to a manager, who gives me a really bad, unprofessional attitude and asks "Are you going to open the bag or just stand there like a dummy". I let her know I don't know the specifics of the stores policy and imagined she, or whomever would open and look inside: AKA a bag check. She then snaps at me, disdain, disgust and rage in her face and says "open the damn bag your damnself!" At this point I'm almost amused by how absurd this has all been. I unzip all 3 compartments of my backpack and wait for her to check my bag. She pauses, spends 30 seconds giving me the worlds dirtiest look, she then looks inside a single section of the bag for exactly 0.03 seconds all the while rolling her eyes and half looking away. Then she says "You're fine, you can get out now". I have a good sense of humor so I wasn't at any point angry or anything, to me their level of absurdity was comical, though I never smirked or showed my secret amusement. This is however totally unacceptable and unprofessional behavior across the board. There is something seriously and frighteningly wrong with these people who work here on a core level. The management of this place is socially inept, emotionally corrupt and lack even a shred of professionalism or human decency. You've been warned yelp. read more

I cannot understand how anyone can have a problem with a store that consistently has 50% off of what are already amazing prices! I hate to even review this store for fear too many people will go! I would probably shop in Dante's Seventh Circle of Hell for a pair of like-new cole Haan leather sandals for $3, but I swear that I never feel like I'm somewhere I don't want to be in this store. I talk to people as I shop and have never had anyone be rude to me, nevermind ever seeing a fight break out. True, the cashier I had on Monday did not speak English at all and I had to conduct my business in French, so if this is the kind of thing to put you off a 1980's vintage silk Burberry blouse for $7, don't visit. But if you are able to keep an open mind you will be able to clothe yourself in designer duds for the change in your pocket!
