A cool thrift shop in Astoria that helps folks in need and that's good enough for me to buy and spend ..Don't be fooled by the name as they do sell children's clothing and toys but they also sell a great variety of stuff like clothes, furniture, antiques, books , small electronics, home goods and much more . Place is well organized with stuff on displayed from front to back , side to side ..Got a few cool nik naks and prices are very reasonable and most important my purchase will help people in need . I've walked passed this place several times in the past. I finally strolled in today. I'm kicking myself for never coming in. I absolutely loved coming here. The vintage games in the front were super cool. The prices were not bad at all. I was dying to get the blue love seat but didn't have a car with me. The back of the thrift has all these cool clothes. I saw this lovely jacket that was under 30 bucks. The staff is very nice here. Since they were about to close they had the clothes section cut off, but the staff said let me go back there anyway. Needless to say I'll definitely come back. They have some good finds here. read more

I was told by the manager of Hour Children's Shop that the vintage sewing machine I was interested in purchasing was in working order; IT DID NOT WORK. There was no way for me to test the machine prior to taking it home because there was no bobbin, no needle, no thread, no pressure foot. Even though I brought my own needle, thread, and bobbin; but I did not have the correct pressure foot for that particular machine; so there was absolutely no way to sew a stitch. I purchased the machine based on her word. I took the machine home. It cost me $120 to get it repaired. The spring was broken as was the bobbin winder. Both had to be replaced. l. I finally went into Hour Children on Steinway Street., 31-12 Steinway Street. They are no longer taking donations until mid-January, and I liked the layout and attitude of the staff! They have lots of toys, gifts, and clothing, and you can see from the photos that they do not look like a regular donation store. I might drop off a few things in the New Year for my 2024 tax deductions. read more

I emailed to see if they would accept furniture donations. When I didn't reply within two days because I was busy and had yet to check my email, I received a frosty email stating they didn't need my furniture due to space. I understand space is limited, but they were willing to accept my donation two days prior. It was disheartening; I wanted to donate quality pieces for a good cause. read more

I don't know how this store stays open, it needs a complete overhaul or it'll go under. Its great that some profits go to charity, but prices are too crazy. For example, 6 months ago I saw the same overpriced furniture and they just pile new donations on top. The store is now crowded with inventory that isn't priced to sell. Its beyond retail. The owner is nice and if she's there the prices are negotiable. Her old store was amazing, sadly after the move to a smaller Steinway location she lost her way. The younger cashiers are completely clueless, not always nice, and just say the price is final. An out of touch elderly woman was hired to price items, and they won't sell you anything until she prices them as if she's an expert.. making the most tiny items $28 minimum, and no one is buying anything. An example of the pricing, this ancient computer software from 1995 was priced at $25 today. I hope they can turn this place around. read more

I like to come in here a lot but I have found the sales associate that is a larger girl , tall, with long straight, black hair very unfriendly. She has an attitude if you ask questions. I work in retail in Manhattan and know it can be exhausting but this is a smaller, Slow paced thrift store in Astoria! I just don't understand. It makes me not want to go in. Everyone else is enjoyable to be around. There is a woman with short hair and glasses, love her, and a younger girl with long blondish hair that is always sweet and I like her a lot. Honestly Everyone else has been great but after my last experience I was just really put off from the energy this girl put out. The prices have gone up on things that are in poor condition. I would assume that's why the items don't move anymore. People like to come in here to see what they can find, looking for unique pieces at good deals and have a relaxing experience and the past 6 or so months have not been that. I haven't purchased anything in months here. Hope it changes because I loved that they moved closer to me. read more

I needed some new (to me) furniture, and this place did not disappoint. The store is well organized, the entire first floor is filled with gently used furniture - sofas, dining sets, desks...etc. There is also a basement with more furniture and also some clothes and toys, but the main focus is the furniture. I wasn't expecting to find anything the day I went, but I ended up buying a two-piece hutch for my dining area for $100 and a secretary desk for $150. Score! So I had to run home and clear out a space for both. My friend also found a cute beaded evening bag for $8. The people who work there were so friendly and helpful, and the charity the proceeds go to is a great cause. They also know a guy who delivers furniture. He brought everything to my third floor walk-up the same day for what I thought was a reasonable price. The stock changes quickly so I will definitely be back soon to see what else they get! read more

Is this a thrift store or a regulaar store because the prices are high for a thrift store. Nice selection of used furniture items but you can get new ones on amazon for the same price. Please lower your prices. I really wanted to shop here because the proceeds goes towards helping women that have been incarcerated and have kids get back on their feet. What an unfriendly thrift store. They seem to pride themselves in appearance, arranging the shop etc, but greet customers coldly. Went there recently just after opening and was turned away by two workers. "We're sorting these clothes. We'll be opening in twenty minutes." Then saw them both come out for their morning smoke! This is strictly for their donation pick-up, which is affiliated with the shop as that's how they procure items to sell. I had called Hour Children a few weeks ago to schedule a donation pick up for my mother. She was house cleaning and had TONS of things to get rid of, and once my grandmother heard about it, she got in on it and added her own things. Making the appointment was pretty painless; I left a message and received a call back and was put on the calendar for the third week in January. This is the only reason they receive 2 stars from me. A week before the pick up I called back to tell them my mom would have at least 15 large bags and 5 large boxes. The day of the pick up, we were given a time frame of 12-4pm. By 3:30 my mom still had not heard from anyone so I called to ask. They said the guy would definitely be coming by 4. At 4:30 I call again and they tell me he's been running all over NYC today and that he will be there by 5:30. My mom has now been waiting at home for 4.5 hours. At around 5:15 the gentleman pulls up in a rickety little van. Circles around for parking because he insists he cannot double park at the side freight door of my moms apartment building. He then asks if someone could help him - I had confirmed with the admin that he would do the moving all by himself but my mom had also arranged for the building super to help BUT SINCE HE WAS LATE the super had gone home for the day. He can fit only 1/3 of my moms stuff in his van. Why this was not accounted for annoys me because I had called with our updated bag/box counts. He has the nerve to ask for a tip.... after being 5.5 hours late?! My mom tells him tomorrow! When you come back for the rest! The next day, I call the office to make sure he is going to come on time as promised. They assured me that he would, and also called my mom to apologize and assure her they would. The same gentleman comes on time (finally!) and then refuses to leave his van, stating that he would get a ticket. Luckily my mom had two people there to help, but this is a little ridiculous. If she didn't would he not pick up the items? The move took about 30 minutes. He never provided a receipt for her donation. What really irritates me is that, we are donating for this charity to SELL at their store. One would think that they would make it as painless as possible for someone to donate items to them. I would highly discourage anyone from scheduling a donation pick up for this place as it is a complete sh*show. If you value your time; go with another charity. read more

I love having a little thrift shop in the neighborhood! The upstairs area has a lot of furniture, lamps, paintings, and so on so this is a great option for home decor. I came in a few times before realizing that there was an additional area in the basement. The basement has a wide variety of clothes at great prices, and a section of kitchen items that is pretty good. I bought several bowls that have been great additions to my kitchen. There are also small appliances like crock pots. This place has a great cause so I usually stop in to see if I can get what I need before placing an order on Amazon or elsewhere. read more

I know first hand that the funds raised are going to support local programs in Astoria and queens for women and children that really need it. Unlike Salvation Army this place is open on Sunday and helps locally! There is nothing better than that. Of course they also provide you with a tax write off letter. This shop is truly a gem. I love the cause. I feel it's so necessary to care for others, especially mothers and children in need. I spoke (and met) with Anita, who is such a sweet soul. I visit the shop regularly. I love the furniture, the prices and the atmosphere. I also love that the money I spend here goes to support very worthy programs for vulnerable women and children. Last year, after my neighbor's husband died and she was closing up their house, I suggested that she donate clothes and housewares to Hour Children. Their van arrived well within the time frame I was given and the drivers collected the items quickly and professionally. I love this store and the organization it supports! read more

This is a fantastic thrift store by any standards. It's a big shop with tons of furniture and housewares, and unlike other thrift stores I've been to recently, lots and lots of art. This store should be on anyone's Top Ten list for thrift stores in NYC, and definitely #1 in Astoria for furniture and housewares.
