For weeks I called several stores, left messages and none of them would call me back. I really thought I had to cancel the show this year until Omaima came to my rescue! She not only returned my call but she also agreed to work with us to help make this show a success. We had set up a date and time for the girls to pick out a dress to wear for the show. By the time they arrived there was already an assortment of beautiful gowns ready for them to try on. Omaima and her assistant were so patient and kind. They made sure each girl chose a dress that not only made them feel confident and beautiful, but also flattering to their unique shape and height. The girls had a good time trying on dress after gorgeous dress, standing on the platform in front of the large mirrors, and admiring themselves and each other. As an added bonus Omaima even wrote descriptions of each dress for us to read during the show! The store is small but charming. The decor is warm and welcoming. It's a beautiful warm and humid day in Chicago and the walk was good. The place is very quaint and small but well lit for shopping. It's a woman's boutique specializing in European clothing. The major designer is Solar and I have not heard of it, but designs are suited for a dressier woman. Thankfully that counts me in as I work in an office where jeans are not allowed and it's conservative so the weekends I can go casual. Back to the store the sizes are European and the lady at the counter (I am assuming is the owner) was very kind to tell me that 34 is usually x-small, 36 is small and 38 is medium. I'm usually a medium but some of her clothing allow for a 34 when I tried on a pair of white slacks. It had a great fit, but buying white is difficult because the material may be more revealing than you might like. Her clothes has many price points as she indicated and sales from the previous season is 20% off. Her summer selection drove me to walk in full of blight yellows, pink, and orange. I've never been to an Indian wedding or worn traditional Indian clothes, and I was looking for a lehenga for a friend's wedding. I tried other stores, but couldn't find anything that fit (I'm a US 10-12 with a large bust), and they kept suggesting the same size tops which I literally struggled to get on, let alone zipped. I left feeling dejected, but when I walked into Uma's shop she was immediately warm, helpful, and honest. She let me know buying a lehenga off the rack would be difficult because they are smaller sizes with no stretch, and recommended a saree instead. She was funny and honest without making me feel shame about my body. She helped me find a fabric I loved and taught me how to wrap it. Only thing to note--I initially told her 100-150 budget and the saree ended up being 200+ including the top and the petticoat, so just be aware that the saree price doesn't include the other items necessary to wear it.
