Good sushi at a good price, although the service is only half decent. They seemed to annoyed at me when I wanted to simply have avocado in my dragon roll instead of cucumber (which is in the dragon roll in other restaurants anyways). The teriyaki chicken was good, although they put a little too much sauce, and the amount of rice that was provided was dismal. It was filling enough and tasted great. I just wish I was given some more rice without being charged for another bowl. Would still recommend. Love the decorations and food. read more

Hands down best sushi in Mahwah. We eat here a couple times a month as it's always a solid dinner. Their hot meals and apps are great as well. We typically take-out as the two times we ate in, the table service wasn't so hot but the sushi chefs are always on point. read more

Great food, but the service is not always great. I work nearby and go here frequently for lunch with my coworkers. The sushi is Always fresh and of great quality. However, the service can be rushed. Once, I went there and a plate was taken from my coworker before he even finished eating. I had to shout my order from afar as the waitress stayed at the opposite end of the table. My husband and I love this restaurant! He is a big sushi guy and I don't eat fish yet there is a lot of stuff on the menu that appealed to me. The sushi was fresh and they had a lot of specialty rolls to pick from. If you're coming a weekend though, make a reservation! This place fills up and it can be tough to get a table. My family and I have been coming here since they opened. We usually do pick-up bit they'll say it's ready in 15-20 minutes which is great if your really hungry. We eat sushi every week at a local restaurant near home. And this was excellent! The sushi was fresh. The variety was great. We had excellent uni sushi with quail egg. The sushi dinner for 2 was wonderful. The service was good too. We enjoyed visiting with locals who were regulars and were treated like family by the employees. Nagoya has been my go-to restaurant for several years now. I work in the Mahwah/Ramsey area, and often go here for business lunches, family occasions, dates, with friends, and even order to go for late work nights. The service has been extremely consistent in terms of quality. The green tea served is almost always hot. My favorite sushi, Ikura (sometimes called salmon roe) has consistently been fresh -- something I have found to be telling as to whether or not sushi restaurants are on their game. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for quality sushi without breaking the bank. read more

This isn't the closest Japanese restaurant to my home, but when my wife and I want sushi, we normally go here because of the Crunchy Crunchy Crunchy appetizer... crispy wasabi seaweed topped with crunchy spicy tuna. Unique and delicious! Haven't seen anything quite like it in any other Japanese restaurant. Sushi menu items and specials are consistently good, even if they don't stand out as being all that much better than many other Japanese restaurants. Service is normally good... everyone is friendly. On Monday 5/9/18 I had the first bad experience in 10 years. First the female waitress gave me an attitude when I asked for complementary Sake and just stood there ignoring me. I had to ask The person in charge at that time, May to intervene. Secondly, they got 2 of the 3 dinner orders wrong. I was looking forward to Sushi & Sashimi and received chicken teriyaki. This place is amazing. I have been eating at Nagoya for the past 5 years because nothing else compairs. Whenever any of my friends ask for a reference for sushi, I always lead them to Nagoya and I have never heard anything other than complete praise. Steve and his staff of waiters/waitresses/hostess(his wife) are truly the BEST! As for the menu, you name it and I've tried it. I went there for lunch with my wife and daughter. They were clearly worried when they saw my daughter, who is 7 years old--I get the feeling they've had some bad kids there. They treated her like a bomb that might go if if they weren't careful. They sat us way out of the way, although there weren't many people there. The staff was nice enough, if a little cold. The place is a little small, but nicely decorated with a very interesting water feature inside. It had koi swimming in it, which was pretty cool. We had a few different sushi-type items. I had sashimi and it was good, but not amazing; it was served very cold, which I hate. My wife and daughter, however, got some rolls (one was spicy tuna), and they were very, very good. I would recommend getting rolls when going there, which is what I'm going to do next time. It isn't a cheap place to go to, but it's not crazy expensive. read more

Usually, when you see a low rating it is because the reviewer was upset about something other than the food-like they messed up their reservation, or they were mistreated in some way. This is not the case with us. The staff was very nice. The food not so much. In all fairness, we ordered 3 dishes and that is what our review is based on (although I did eat here before-not good then either). The salad had that ginger dressing-you know-the one that they pour out of that big plastic container. That one everyone has. The sizzling beef was that same watery soy based sauce- lacking any imagination or taste. The millenium roll tasted like they dropped a line in my fish tank. My wife and I were in total agreement about this place. Too bad, because it is a two minute drive. Try the sushi in Allendale and compare. read more

My wife, son & I reside in Harriman, NY & we have been frequenting Nagoya for a few years now. We recently took our 16 yr old son for his birthday along with my parents, who just arrived from Florida. I highly raved about Nagoya before my parent's arrival & after the meal, they weren't disappointed. My father & mother enjoy eating red & white tuna sashimi. I enjoy yellow tail, striped bass, fluke, red tuna & salmon sashimi. My son enjoys red tuna. My wife enjoys the California rolls, beef & chicken teriyaki. The whole family enjoys the shrimp / vegetable tempura along with the miso soup & the phenomenal ginger salad dressing. Everything at Nagoya is fresh & tasty. This place is GREAT! My husband and i eat here weekly. The rolls are inventive and the sushi is always fresh. If you are adventurous allow them to create and OH they will impress you! Its amazing that the owners and the sushi chef can remember so many of their customers by name, their preferences and treat each customer with such personal attention. This is my favorite place for rolls. When I worked in the area I would visit weekly; now only on special occassions. I think for the quality and effort they put in it is a good value. They specialize in more elegant rolls and put on a show if you sit at the bar. It is BYO but the liquor store on the other side of the parking lot has a good selection of asian beers and saki. The owner his wife and the staff are all very friendly and will make additions and subtractions of ingredients as needed. They definately take care of regulars as well which is something missing from a lot of restaurants; I rarely order off the menu unless I'm really set on something specific and what they make is always a pleasant suprise. They are very big on using spicy tuna and cod eggs both of which I enjoy. I have visited several times with large parties 6-15 and they always do a good job of making sure all are taken care of. read more

Finally tried something other than sushi and was sorely disappointed. The mango chicken had very overcooked, chewy chicken in it, and the tomatoes were weird in there. The nabemono with sukiyaki beef, vegetables, tofu and rice noodles was flavorless. We paid about $35 for just these two dishes. Would rate Nagoya 4-5 stars for the sushi, but 1-2 stars for the non-sushi dishes based on these two entrees. Will be coming back for sushi, but nothing else. read more
