Classic sushi restaurant with solid quality sushi. I ordered the Nagoya Sushi and Sashimi for 2 ($58), Dinosaur Roll ($14), American Dream Roll ($15), and Two Flavor Caviar Roll ($14). I especially liked the Dinosaur Roll and American Dream Roll as the classic combo of eel and avocado was delicious. The sashimi was fresh and super soft to chew. I thought the sushi and sashimi were decent value. For dessert, I tried the Fried Banana with ice cream, which was about as you'd expect - pretty good. I also tried the Fried Cheesecake, which was great - fried on the outside and soft/melty on the inside. Tere is a decent amount of seating inside the restaurant. It is a part of a larger plaza with other restaurants, so there is a large parking lot out front, which is convenient. The staff are pretty friendly, but the service speed was a bit slow. Overall, Nagoya doesn't really have too many special options, but it is a solid option for sushi if you are in the Mahwah area. read more

I go here to eat frequently for lunch due to working nearby. The staff are polite and always looking to refill your tea/water. I suggest the 3 roll lunch special that comes with miso and salad. The sushi is always fresh and I never leave feeling stuffed. I ate here on my birthday and they brought out fried banana and a candle to celebrate! Casual BYOB joint with decent sushi, located in a strip mall. They seem to do a lot of business via take-out from what I observed while dining here. They have a sushi bar that you can sit at if dining alone, or prefer bar-type seating. Plenty of tables to dine-in. Dining room is carpeted, but clean, almost looks new. And they have a rock waterfall feature on the far wall. We started with the Tuna Dumpling: spicy crab meat inside wrapped with tuna in mango salsa and wasabi mayo sauce. A creative dish that I had not seen before. It was not too spicy and the dish itself had great flavor. Then The Bonsai Tree: crab sticks, caviar, avocado and shrimp wrapped in cucumber. This too had great flavor and wasn't overly large to eat in one bite. We asked for the Gyoza crispy, but it came out looking the same as brought to neighboring tables. For dinner I only ordered one roll as I noticed they are quite large, and we had already tried a bunch of apps. I got the New Year's Roll (which is not on their menu online). It had shrimp tempura and cucumber inside, topped with spicy crunchy king crab meat. On it's own, I'd say the taste was good, but I preferred it with with soy sauce as the flavor was a little weak. For me, the roll was also a two biter. All in all, I will probably be back as it is a convenient & quick dinner option with fresh tasting food. read more

However , I'm writing this review after being a Nagoya customer for four years, so its not a single visit limited experience. The sushi is fresh and delicious , served with a smile and friendly attitude. They are clean and consistent with their loyal employees and family atmosphere. It is not overpriced nor worthy of the petty snobby reviews left by even a few visitors over time. From time to time , any Sushi restaurant will have some fish which is over the top9 which can compete for first place with the rest of the meal. This occurs everywhere! For me, its pure sushi...Uni, tobiko, sake, ika, toro which in English is sea urchin, flying fish eggs, salmon, squid, fatty tuna and more that defines a sushi meal. This place is great. Period. Steve is the owner and deserves to be recognized and appreciated for his dedication and relentless commitment to serving us and supporting a tradition of personalized service. Epic? Typical American -sushi place. Not that many good options in Mahwah so we go here whenever we are in the area. But this is not our top sushi joint though. We got the tea but the cups were so hot that you really couldn't drink the tea until cup was cold which made the tea cold as well. The sushi when asked to be made with brown rice was obviously extra money but it was very cold. They didn't really warm up the rice before rolling the sushi. Which I thought was a very weird thing to do, when would imagine that you would make the rice at least room temperature. This is what turned me off from this place. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The sushi place near my family closes at 9pm, and I was craving some good sushi at 9pm coming from Connecticut on the way to New Jersey. This place was honestly far from good sushi... the maki rolls were almost tasteless. The rice tasted like mushy over cooked white rice (not sushi rice) and I could barely taste the nori. I ordered a tuna cucumber hoping it would be sliced fish, and my fish was...grounded? I wasn't used to that at all. I also ordered an eel avocado roll and I couldn't get over the fact that the eel tasted burnt. They tried really hard with the special rolls with the presentation which I appreciated, but I just couldn't seem to like it. The flavors just didn't go. I'd say the prices are a bit high for low-tier sushi. Also, the miso soup I got was almost lukewarm, and extremely salty that I had to pour in some of my tea to get it hot and diluted (yes, I was judging myself too for doing this, but I did what I had to do). Overall, I'm thankful that I got to eat food at such a late hour, but other than that, I probably won't be going back for miso soup or sushi. If I do go back, it would probably be for their entrees. read more

The man and I are big-time sushi eaters and we tend to frequent our local haunts quite regularly. We decided to branch out and hit up Nagoya for a little Mahwah "fla-vah". Appetizer and sushi for us both. The dipping sauce for the gyoza appetizer could have used a little more flavor but the gyoza itself was satisfying. Entrees included the chirashi for me (including green salad and miso soup) and a mix of rolls/pieces for him. They put a different spin on the chirashi by adding a pickled cucumber salad to it. They also wrapped the yellowtail around pieces of cucumber, which I could have done without. He enjoyed his rolls and pieces. He was "oohing" and "ahhing" over the blue fin tuna. I love a man who "ooohs" and "ahhhs"... The atmosphere at Nagoya is nice...nicer than you would expect for a strip mall (it is located in the Ramapo Centre Strip Mall). Lots of Japanese influence, including the attire of the waitstaff. Ample seating for groups and intimate seating for couples and smaller parties. Service was very attentive and friendly. They refilled our water and our green tea very regularly. We liked that! Well done, Mahwah. read more
