Nahid is a brow-grooming goddess! She is professional, prompt, thorough, and affordable. If you've never experienced threading, I highly recommend it. I prefer it to waxing because I always get breakouts from wax and find that threading is a lot more precise. Just be prepared for a little bit of pain (on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say it's a 3 tops) and some participation (you'll have to hold your forehead and eyelid at points to make your brow taut). Nahid will greet you warmly, take a look at your brows, ask what you generally like (thicker or thinner brows, higher or lower arches), and then get to work. She uses rosewater to soothe the skin as she works and then - to top it off - finishes your appointment with a calming moisturizer by Eminence (love that product line!) that she applies with a mini-massage. It's easy to schedule with her via phone or text. And, she only charges $15 for brows. My eyebrows were out of control! I tried threading a while back at Sophia's on Guadalupe and was disappointed. I looked on Yelp to find an alternate location and came across Nahid's. Making an appointment was easy...I called and schedule one for the next day. She makes evening appointments, too, which is great for those of us who work during the day. Nahid was prompt and started on time. She has two rooms in the Gallery of Salons at Northcross. The threading takes place in the interior salon area. Her room was clean and comfortable. She did a fantastic job with my eyebrows and spent a lot of time making sure they were exactly how I wanted them. Her technique was great and she didn't pluck (as sometimes other do with threading). $15 for threading was not bad. Others may charge less, but they are less skilled and precise than Nahid. So I got a wild hair up my ... brow and decided to get my eyebrows threaded. I'm a dude and I've never done this kind of manscaping before. This threading technique seemed more interesting than waxing. It also seemed like a more personal experience than going into a strip mall, especially being a guy. On an early Sunday afternoon, I called about this and Nahid was able to see me immediately. Nice start. I got there 30 minutes later and we got started. The only thing I said was that it was my first time and that I just wanted my eyebrows cleaned up. She proposed starting off with a minimal reduction, 'cause you can always take off more. About 10 minutes later she had me give her some feedback and she then suggested we take off a little of the sides, which I agreed with (whatever, she's the expert, and a female one at that). Another 5-10 minutes and we were done. As far as the pain (I'm sure this is a common question), some parts were painful and some weren't. She said that the more you do it, the less painful it is, which I guess makes since. My roots have been there for quite a while. The brows under my eyes were the most sensitive, as she warned me about, and I have some little cuts underneath to prove it. But no pain no gain, as I told her. The moments of pain were temporary, and she seemed to be pretty efficient (yet thorough) so the whole process wasn't excruciating or anything. It's about what I expected - if anything, a little less painful. When she was done she applied some orange blossum cream and gave me a little eyebrow massage which felt great. All of this was done in a little room, so there was privacy. She had some "soothing" music playing too. All-in-all, a very comfortable experience, especially considering I was a little nervous at first, not knowing what to expect. My eyes are more noticeable now and I have more confidence. I plan on going back, but not every 2-3 weeks like she recommends, mainly because of the cost ($15). I'll try to do once a month or maybe once every 6 weeks. From what I recall, she said she'd knock off $5 if you get a haircut while you go in for this, so maybe I'll take advantage of that. Birds is cool but they never give me a "rock and roll" haircut like I think they should. Always too conservative. I guess I'll leave that review for Birds though in their section. read more

About 3 or 4 months ago, I was trying to find a place that did threading and I read on another website about Nahid Salon and Spa. Also I needed a haircut. I made an appointment with Nahid. With a magazine of the hair cut I wanted and completely damaged hair, I walked into Nahid and will never change stylists ever. Nahid has a great personality and very knowledgeable (she has 25 years experience). She has a strong attention to detail when she was cutting my hair and threading my eyebrows. Before I saw Nahid, I went to salons that tried to repair my hair but in a few weeks it would go back to way it was. Nahid is a miracle worker. She dyed my hair and it has been completely restored to its natural state. When she threads, she takes you into this room and turns on relaxing music. I heart Nahid! I completely missed my first appt. with her, which was totally my fault, but she was very kind about rescheduling. When I arrived at the Gallery of Salons, I was confused about how to find her. I think she only does hair in the booth indicated in the directory as hers. I finally found her in the shared salon rooms with some help from some of the other stylists. Definitely ask her when you make your appt. where to meet her and get explicit instructions. There didn't seem to be a reception area at all. I have never had my brows shaped in any way before my experience with Nahid. I have a fairly high threshold for pain, but it didn't seem too painful to me. She did a great job with the shape, not making me look too "done", which was my fear. It's by far the best eyebrow experience I've ever had. All the places I've gone to usually just "clean" my eyebrows, but Nahid shaped my eyebrows to my face. She asked me how thick I like them, and how I wanted my arch. She also told me she uses organic products, showed me how to fill in my brows, and gave my eyebrows a little massage after the threading. After she was finished I couldn't believe how awesome my eyebrows looked. Her studio is very clean and calming. Nahid is so sweet, friendly, and I got a very honest vibe from her. After reading all the reviews I could find about threading, I decided to go to Nahid for my first eyebrow threading experience. I mean, I was totally convinced by the reviews, because I drove all the way from South Austin for her. Nahid is very nice and her personality is great. And nothing against her, but the technique is painful! Not as much as waxing, but I did end up bleeding. Apparently the thread was too course and took off a little bit more than it was supposed to. My eyebrows do look great! I also got my upper lip done, which didn't hurt at all. I'll give Nahid and eyebrow threading a second try. I moved to Austin 3 years ago and knew about Nahid before I came. Unfortunately, I needed a quick eyebrow threading last minute and she was unavailable, so my first threading in Austin was at a salon with a woman named Jasmine or Jasmina or Jamilla. It was soo painful (I had been threading for about 2 years by that point), her products burned my skin (I don't have sensitive skin) and she over plucked my eyebrows! I looked like a drag queen! My second time, I went with my first choice, Nahid, and was so happy! I have recommended her time and again and have not had anyone else touch my brows since! She was amazing! Just went there tonight and she stayed late for me. On top of coming after hours, I was running late because the weather and traffic was so bad. She was very kind and sweet even though I kept her waiting (not that I'd make a habit of it, but it was a rough day, so I was so happy she was so laid back). Perfection! My eyebrows are very dark and prominent so I take my eyebrow grooming very seriously. This was my first experience. I went in for a full facial threading. Nahid was pretty nice and almost on time. She plays very relaxing music while you're lying there. She did a great job trying to fix my eyebrows. But the threading of my face didn't turn out to be as I wanted. When I went back home, I found big missed spots on my face. (I have really dark facial hair!) She used a bunch of organic creams and lotions on my skin during and after threading, which prevented my face from getting red and react to the threading. I've had Nahid cut my hair for more than 5 years now. What I love about her haircuts are that my hair looks beautiful immediately after she has cut and styled it, but more importantly it looks great the day after as well. As a busy working mom, it is important that I be able to wash and dry my hair and walk out the door in the morning without having to spend precious time styling my hair. I hate writing bad reviews, but this is about my lady bits. Based on good reviews, I went to Nahid for eyebrow threading and a Brazillian wax. The eyebrow threading was sloppy and was finished off with tweezing. A properly trained threader doesn't have to use a tweezer at all. The Brazillian wax was horrific. Nahid missed several patches of hair, double dipped, and left wax all over my genitalia. When I asked her if she could clean off the wax, she seemed annoyed with me. Her waxing technique is poor. Instead of a smooth and freshly waxed beaver, she left me with a patchy pussy, a rash, and a mountain of ingrown hairs even a month after my appointment. Nahid does an EXCELLENT job grooming brows, cutting hair and giving facials. I moved about a year ago and I miss her very much! When I look back at photos of my brows while I was seeing her they look like model eyebrows because she would help me grow out just the right pieces every time I would go in. Same for hair- she does wonders with layering medium to long hair. Also, I treated myself to a couple of facials with her and it was WONDERFUL!!! I love the way she does my eyebrows! I have really weird eyebrows and not many places can make them look good. The first time I went to her, she shaped them into perfection. However, I thought it was a bit expensive since I heard that in Houston it was only $7 compared to her $15. I went back to Houston to get my eyebrows done and was disappointed that they didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. Therefore, I decided $15 was well worth it.
