She really listened to what I was looking for and even was willing to make a few adjustments after she had dried my hair. Everything from the washing of my hair, which was very relaxing to the gorgeous blowout she gave me was phenomenal. The only downside of the experience is that it does take a while because there is some waiting for the instructor to give feedback ( i.e. I was in there from 9 AM to 12 PM for my haircut) but Sophia was so easy to talk to the time flew by. I can tell all the students really take their time with haircuts and I would come back again!

The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and approachable, which makes the learning environment very comfortable. Sobia is very knowledgeable and patient, and she takes the time to explain each procedure step-by-step so students can really understand both the theory and hands-on practice. I really appreciate how supportive they are -- they encourage questions and make sure everyone gets individual attention during practice. The school is clean, organized, and professional, and you can tell they genuinely care about their students' success. I feel much more confident in my skills because of the quality training I've received here. I would highly recommend this esthetic school to anyone who is interested in starting a career in skincare or wants strong practical experience with great instructors.

I enrolled in…read moretheir cosmetology course and clearly communicated that I needed to take the exam in English, as I do not read Chinese. The owner agreed and took my payment of $1,880. She scheduled me for classes starting Monday. However, on my very first day, I was told I could not attend class and could not take the English exam for the price I paid. She stated the $1,880 was only for the Chinese exam, and the English version would cost $3,500. This was never mentioned during enrollment after | clearly stated my needs. How could I possibly take a Chinese exam when I can't read the language? It's either a severe administrative failure or a deliberate trick to get people in the door. I have never seen a school treat a potential student with such disregard. Fortunately, received a refund, but the entire ordeal was a huge waste of time and energy. Be very careful and get everything in writing.

I met an apprentice Jessie who agreed to do either relaxing or highlights. She set up an appt for a Sat a week away. I decided to go with highlights and lowlights. She did full head, which took around 3 hours, and did an amazing job. She was very helpful in picking out colors and pretty much doing exactly what I wanted. And she was great to talk to as well. I don't think I could have asked for more even if I was paying. However, this was free too! This was an absolutely fantastic experience for me! I hope they'll want to use me again in the future (another apprentice offered to cut my hair soon).

When I wanted to get a fresh new shorter cut I was surprised to see that there aren't any Toni and Guys in NYC -- but I found the Tigi Academy...and found CHRISTOPHER. I already trust the Toni and Guy/Tigi family -- because they are always on top of the latest trends. I did not do the model exchange -- I wanted to pay for an amazing haircut and have an amazing experience. That, I did. Not only is the Academy in a really cool and ritzy party of town - with a great view - But it was clean, modern and every single person there was friendly to me. I am always nervous about paying a good chunk of change for a haircut -- but wellll worth it! The first time around Christopher cut 9 inches off and he made me feel confident and he took control and I loved the result. It was cute right then, and was cute when it grew out. I've already gone back for a second cut. He's my man!

When I called back again today, to ask them to stop calling, the rep smugly said "we're allowed to call you because you asked about our school". It's like they enjoy harassing people. I did leave my contact info back in MAY, spoke with someone at the school, and it sounded like a scam, so I said I wasn't interested. Then after they called me 5 times in one day, I asked to be taken off the call list. The calls have continued for over five months now. At what point does it become unlikely that you're going to change someone's mind about attending their school? After the 3rd call? The 20th call? I blocked their number but the phone carrier could not block them leaving me creepy voice mails. I'm guessing that any experience as a student at the school will be similar.

I was running late to what I thought was a hair consultation, but apparently they had booked me for a color. I said I could be there in 30 minutes but they said they couldn't take me. Which is fine and understandable. But I was trying to understand the process behind why they couldn't. I asked how long my slot was booked, among other questions for which I got very rude replies. I then asked what I could do at this point and the woman replied " well what day can you come in and be on time for??" No sense of customer service at all and very condescending. Will never pursue this place again.

This is the new location of the Carsten Institute (original location was in Union Square), which I…read morelike because Grand Central is more convenient to get to for me. It's also a lovely and large space. First time I came to this place, it worked out so well, it was like a dream. I loved the instructor - he was so knowledgeable and suggested I get high lights then add the copper red color I wanted. The student was really nice and did a great job. My only complaint was that it took a bit longer than I expected - over 5 hours but that's understandable because the student is a student after all, and still learning... What took the longest were the high lights. Overall, I was very happy with the color and the price was great too- $60 because I got the model rate of $15 per bowl. Last weekend, I returned for a second time and there were definitely a few hiccups along the way. The instructor was a different one from last time and I definitely don't think he was as good as the other one. He said that I could either get high lights (but the top would still be dark) or they would have to bleach my hair to get it to the lighter color I wanted. Now, I never wanted to bleach my hair but they convinced me to do it. The student spent a long time on adding the bleach/lightener to my hair and used 3 bowls total for it which I think was kind of wasteful. Also, the way they explained the pricing was really confusing so when I brought that up, the instructor said he could give me the model rate of $15 per bowl and I really appreciated that. Anyway, after the bleach, the student washed it out of my hair, blow dried it a little then started applying the copper color. That process was really quick so that was good. And I really liked the towel the student used to wipe the color off my face- It smelled of beautiful lavender. When it came time for the color to be washed out, the student told me that I would need toner to be added but I actually really liked the light reddish orange brown as is and I felt like the toner would make my hair color darker. She then called over the instructor to see if he could explain it to me better. He said it was fine if I don't want the toner applied. The caveat was that I couldn't complain to them about my hair color later. I agreed to that and am so glad I left it as as, because now it's this gorgeous bright copper color and has the effect of high lights in them. The student did a great job blow drying and curling my hair afterwards. Something to keep in mind: The instructor mentioned the whole process would take approximately 4 hours, but it was actually more like 5.5 hours so expect to be in the salon for awhile especially if it's for color. In the end, 5 bowls were used so I paid $75 + tax and tip (you tip the student directly.) Overall, I was very happy with the results and the student worked hard to make sure I got the color I wanted.
