When I got there the stylist said I didn't confirm again via call. Why would I need to confirm again? I texted her letting her know that I was running late. I have no issue that she took on another client the problem is she first said that I didn't confirm when I have it in writing I confirmed 3x the date and time of my appointment. If you were confused why didn't you reach out? I'm trying to support BOBs in my neighborhood but consistently customer service tends to be an issue. I tried to explain my position and I was just told now I'm arguing and starting issues. If she just said we started someone else cause you were late that would be disappointing but understandable. This take of my experience comes from someone who has had locs for almost 28 years. Bottom line, I…read morewon't return as I'd much rather have someone to CARE for my hair than to create a cute style that pulls out my hair in the process. Having my edges pulled out to create a tight, fresh look is nothing that I ever want for myself. I don't believe you need to suffer to have your locs look nice. PROS: (1) The crochet queen who did my hair was nice. (2) I was seen on time and went straight to the back to have my locs washed. (3) I thought I could get a comb retwist, but she seemed knowledgeable and said I had too much new growth and needed crocheting. After the wash, I was under the hair dryer and then she crocheted my locs in no time. From beginning to end, my appointment was just about an hour and a half and my locs were neatly done. (4) She quickly repaired a weak loc. (5) The cost was very reasonable. CONS: (1) She forewarned me that the crocheting would likely hurt a little and in actuality, for someone who is not tender-headed, it hurt a lot... especially when she was pulling out the edges that I recently grew back. The pulling happened with 2 of my front locs and it was toward the very end of the crocheting. It happened quickly for those locs, and being forewarned about the pain, I consciously chose to stay seated in her chair as she was almost done. It wasn't just those 2 locs, but the edges are so sensitive that I felt them the most, while hearing the pings of my hair being pulled out. My hair was so tight that I couldn't even make certain facial expressions without it hurting and it took over a week before I started to feel like my head was mine again. Up until then, I moved around gingerly when it came to my hair. (2) She asked if I had any allergies to essential oils and I don't, so I chose an essential oil that I use regularly and she put a lot of the oil on my scalp, so much so that it was still rolling down onto my face and into my eyes many hours later. I dealt with it because it smelled very nice. But then my scalp started itching A LOT. This is not a habit that I have and after washing my hair twice since then, it is still irritated, but to a much lesser degree now. I can only imagine that the smell good factor was a result of putting in too much essential oils and I am aware that you can do more harm than good if you don't know what you're doing when adding essential oils to other oils. I don't know if this was the case though. (3) She added this oil to my dry scalp. Maybe that is part of my scalp irritation too as I am not accustomed to having that amount of oil on my scalp unless I'm going to wash it out shortly on my wash day. My hair was so tight that I couldn't imagine washing the oil out. I chose not to do anything else to my hair until I could manipulate my hair without it hurting. (4) My locs were snapped apart without scissors and I'm glad I went ahead and separated my locs myself a week beforehand. (5) There was a woman getting the comb retwist next to me and I'd see the look of pain while she had her locs done too. The unnecessary pain and lack of true care for my hair is non-negotiable, regardless of the beautiful pictures I see on their website. Unfortunately, I won't return to the salon.

I could tell from the moment I spoke to the person on the phone to book my appointment, that this was bad news. The person sounded like it was a huge hassle to take down my details and was not accommodating with the times I wanted so I agreed to show up earlier than I wanted. On the day of the appointment, just as I was about to leave the house, I got a call to tell me to come later. When I got there, the salon was cluttered and messy. I didn't feel welcomed at all. My single process color was the worst salon color I've ever had. They used super cheap hair dye that looked like even cheaper boot polish. After half an hour when they checked the progress, they found that it hadn't done the job at all, so they reapplied more and I sat there for another half hour. It came out within a single wash and left my roots a dirty gold color afterwards. They then tried to accuse me of not telling them that my hair was so stubborn, and that I told them the wrong shade to use (even though I've been getting my hair dyed for more than 15 years with the same color!) When it came time to get the cut, I was so upset that I said to just give it a trim and leave the style. The hairdresser decided to ignore me and proceeded to thin out bits and cut into the sides to frame my face (a subsequent hairdresser I went to said they had done a hack job!). The one half decent part of the service was the blow dry, which was quick, smooth and professional (though I had asked for it to be blown straight and they decided to curl it anyway). All in all, worst hair experience ever - I would not recommend this place to anyone!

Well this is definitely NOT one of those situations. I was in a rather desperate situation because the woman who usual does my braids was unavailable due to illness. So after searching yelp for someplace that is professional while being in my price range, I can upon Lady Leo Beauty Salon. I was able to make a same day appointment with Shenel, the resident hair braider and after previewing the pictures online, I was excited to get my summer style. I choose something simple and quick, cornrows of alternating size braided back into a bun. This was something basic that I didn't feel was easy to mess up. I did not get my hair washed or even blow dried, from start to finish my style which should have taken no more than two hours took over 4! I read the review of another helper about time being an issue for the, so this was no so surprising for me. After all quality takes time right? Wrong! After weather numerous comments by Shenel about how thin my edges were and dry my hair was (I had just taken out my kinky twists and my hair needed some TLC, which I tried to explain to her), I had to sit through her rough mishandling of my hair. I am not were near tender headed but I had to bite my tongue more than once. They braids were so tight I could not even touch the or bear to have her put them up into a bun. I told her they were tight and to her credit she tried to use steam to loosen them up. This did not work well and I have to take 825 mg of ibuprofen (a throw back from my Caesarean section this past winter). I left in pain and upset because she had braided on the very baby hairs which she complained were too thin. By then I was so tired I just wanted out. I paid the 80 fee ( nowhere near worth the style I received) forewent a tip and hurried out of the shop vowing not to return. I am writing this review a week after my experience because the pain from the tight braids remains and I am upset that I wasted my money because I now have to take out the braids that I received only last Monday! The cornrows which she placed on my baby hairs literally detached from my head from the stress of being braided too tight. Please do make the same mistake I did, please go elsewhere for your braids. After moving to NY, I was very apprehensive about finding someone to do my hair. But, I'm so glad I stumbled across her shop (after several terrible experiences elsewhere). She is definitely the only one in NYC I will let touch my hair! Karen really takes the time to talk with her clients about their hair and figures out a hair care plan and style that is suitable for ultimate growth. She also has several treatments (oil and protein) that she encourages her clients to use to perpetuate healthy hair and growth. Beyond that, she is extremely friendly and accommodating (she has squeezed me in on short notice when I desperately needed it, something I really appreciate it). Also, she is all about doing what's in the best interest of your hair! So, she's not afraid to let her clients know when a style or color request may be damaging to the hair--a very important characteristic to have as a hair care professional! I think the prices are reasonable, and there are no surprises, as all the rates are listed on the wall. I typically get full sew-ins which take approx. 4.5 hours, but are well worth the time! You can't rush quality, which is definitely what you can expect to receive. I am constantly complimented on my hair every time I get it done! So, definitely check out the salon! I've been going for 1 1/2 years, and I'm very satisfied!
