It was my first time getting Gel-X done and she was incredibly patient, thorough and even helped to get the color combo I was looking for just right. This review is for both locations, Ravenswood and Roscoe Village. I went to Ravenswood a few weeks ago for a pre-Christmas mani. I read here and saw on their website and their Instagram that they do chrome nails, which I've been wanting for a while. The Ravenswood location told me that they only do chrome at the RV location. I went to the RV location today and was told that no, they do not do chrome, they have in the past but that it "didn't look good" so they stopped. Disappointing, and their Insta, company website, and Yelp photos are misleading. At other salons I've been given a questionnaire about COVID-19 symptoms before the mani, neither Nail Junkie location did that. I feel like the pandemic has been extra harsh on them with them losing many employees and customers. She literally kicked me out 5 mins after painting my toenails and while they were still wet because she wanted to leave. I think I've died and landed in nail salon heaven. I was across the street at the Spa (Katie Marie Skin Care & Wax Boutique - highly recommend, check out my review) and decided to come in for a quick manicure. The lady at the register, despite all other reviews, was actually pretty nice. When I asked her if they take walks-in, she checked the schedule and was able to fit me in immediately. If you check-in on yelp, you get the first time client discount and if you're not an active yelp user, just make sure you mention that you are a new client before service starts. Soko did my regular manicure the first time here. Believe it or not, it lasted almost two weeks without chipping. I knew right then and there that this is the place to go to for a no-chip manicure. I've done two no-chip manicures so far and I've been extremely satisfied with both. They both lasted about 4.5 weeks without any chips. The only reason why I came back to get another was because my nails grew out. They also offer a 2 week insurance/guarantee period in which they would fix your chipped nail free of charge. The regular pedicures also last for a long time, but to be honest, they're not the best. They don't scrub as much as they should, so if you're looking for a pedicure to take care of callus and dead skin, this wouldn't be the best place to get it at. The salon itself is clean, all tools are sanitized and they have a range of nail polish colors (regular and no chip) to choose from. Highly recommend! read more

This place offers more of a McDonalds fast food kind of experience. Tip: don't take their last appointment of the day. They won't tell you this when you book but they will rush the whole process. I asked for a Spa package and they said they can't do it because they 'don't have time for it'. Well maybe they should have said that when I made the appointment or specify the duration on their website. Btw turns out their website domain is up for sale so they don't have a place that shows the different packages except for the stick on menu on a wall in the salon. Feeling safe in the time of COVID. I have been coming to Nail Junkie for almost two years. They have been the best no chip specialist I've been to so far. Some salons have one person that does it best. Here, anyone that takes care of you is great. I just went a week ago, the first time since the pandemic hit. I was comfortable going because even before they were super sanitary. Of course you must have a face mask at all times. Second as soon as you walk in you have to wash your hands. Spacing is ample. The tables have been separated to allow 6 ft distance. There is plexiglas high and wide that only allows your hands to go through. The ladies wear gloves as they give your hands and feet. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I am a hairstylist so my nails get crappy fast. With that being said I am addicted to getting my nails done and just letting someone service me for a change. One of my clients highly recommended the owner Avka and shortly after one of my stylists came in raving about a new place she tried. She saw a woman there but I'm not sure of her name. I called in on a Saturday and they were very flexible with scheduling me. It was a slower Saturday so they were even fine with me needing to push my original appointment back. I arrived 30 minutes early because I was running ahead and I was fine with sitting and relaxing for a bit. Avka, who my appointment was with, had to help someone with a no chip polish that wasn't coming out right and I waited another half an hour after my scheduled appointment for him to be ready. My only complaint is I waited an hour for my appointment and I was offered something to drink after the first half hour. I would have liked to be greeted within the first few minutes of being there. Once I was finally offered something I chose red wine. They completely filled my glass and I was fine with waiting even longer. The place is very nice and clean. The owner has done a really good job. The staff is all put together and everyone in the place was very please with their outcome. I was very happy. I got the sculpted gel full set and he did such an awesome job without taking forever. I used to go to Izabella's and they did a decent job but Avkas are way beyond their level. Finally I left, went home, got dressed for a holiday party and ended up messing up both of my thumb nails pretty bad. I called at 6:30 and they had already closed at 6pm. Simply put, Nail Junkie is fantastic. Avka gets a lot of love on here but I wanted to make sure Muugii (hope I'm spelling his name correctly), gets some, too! I travel farrrrrrrr via public transit (I live south side) to the Belmont location, but it's totally worth it! Muugii does a wonderful job on my nails. I have a gel full set and my nails have looked natural since the beginning. Nail Junkie uses REAL gel and not that powder liquid ghetto acrylic crap most salons use that they call gel even though it's not. Also, all nail filing done here is by hand and NOT with a drill. Because of this, appointments tend to take more time but it's better for your nails. I wish I took a photo of my nails before I got them redone this go around, but I had a no chip for approx. 4 1/2 weeks and not one chip, peel or broken nail even after tons of regrowth. I am very impressed! I get my gel done a little thicker than standard because I'm ROUGH on my hands and they still look natural and not bulky. Their customer service is wonderful, too. They will try their hardest to accommodate all walk-ins. I have seen quite a few demanding folks walk in there wanting an appointment right NOW) and the staff will play it cool and try to fit them in. Kudos! I will be a customer here for a long time! The proper way to trim a cuticle is to gently clip it, yet she yanked and tore each nail and after a few days all of my cuticles began to split and tear. Many of them are swollen and painful. There's a reason this nail salon has nearly all 5 star reviews. Love this place! I walked in on a whim, without an appointment, wanting to pamper myself after a long overnight shift. The owner moved around some appointments and I was seen within 10 minutes even though they were pretty busy. My manicurist was really friendly; I told her what length and shape I wanted and she did exactly what I wanted. She took the time to file and tame my unruly cuticles. I think her name was Carrie? I got a no chip in a deep purple color (which Carrie helped me pick out). I don't think I saw the whole selection of no chip colors; but that's probably for the best, since I can be really indecisive. My mani lasted about an hour - she took her time, paying attention to details and making sure everything looked just right. My nails look PERFECT! I'm so happy :) Someone mentioned this before, but they sterilize their equipment and open a new package for each person. I appreciate that. Tip: make an appointment! They were super busy all morning. You might get lucky to be seen as a walk-in; they seem to be really accommodating. But if you're in a hurry, an appointment might be best. Overall: A+++!! I was excited to have my first visit with the 10% off. It sounded like an understanding way to get people in. I came in with no-chip on. They accepted the discount upfront and seemed to have no problem with having no-chip in (did not say anything about it). The manicure was good and a 45 minute turn around. At check out, to my surprise, she quickly mentioned she would be charging a "soak off" fee. I was confused. She explained it was a charge to take off other salons nail polish (however they do not charge if the nail polish is from them...?). I asked how much, she said $8!!! Continued to say, "but $7 with your discount"!! I felt manipulated. They get you to come in for the first time with a discount thinking this is a fair deal, but then they trap you with a "soaking fee" with terms that discriminate against people who have never been in before!! So they end up making MORE money on first timers (if you have polish on already) than if you were to not even use the 10% discount. It's like they are mad you are new and coming from another salon; Isn't that the point of your "first time 10% discount"?!?!
