After my most recent disappointing pedicure, I did what any hopeful person would do...I went straight to Yelp. That's when I came across Maison De Nail. The reviews were glowing, the photos looked great, and booking online was incredibly easy, so I decided to give it a shot. When I arrived, I'll be honest, I had a moment of hesitation. The salon sits in an older, smaller shopping center and it's not one of those ultra-glam, over-the-top salons you often see around Huntington Beach. For a second I caught myself judging a book by its cover. Thankfully, I kept an open mind... because this place delivered. Jenna was my nail tech and she did an amazing job. The pedicure included a great massage, thoughtful treatments, careful shaping, and a clean, polished finish. Nothing felt rushed, and the attention to detail was exactly what I've been looking for. What really stood out was how kind and welcoming everyone was. The whole environment felt relaxed and friendly rather than chaotic and transactional like some busy salons. Another detail I loved? Their loyalty stamp card. I honestly haven't seen one of these in years and it made me weirdly excited. There's something fun about earning stamps and working toward a discount on your service. I asked to have my nails cut down, but she didn't do it. She also left builder gel on my nails, and now they're peeling/picking. During the removal process, she had me place my nails in a bowl of acetone and kept alternating hands instead of using foil wraps and allowing them to soak properly for 15-20 minutes, which is what I later read is the recommended process. After about 30 minutes, she seemed frustrated and started rushing through my appointment so she could get to another client. Overall, I left feeling disappointed with both the quality of the service and the experience.

They did both my mani and pedi at the same time (I was the only person getting both services done simultaneously). I got the sense that since I was not spending money on a nail service that was more pricey, that I wasn't really worth their time. Got me in and out in less than 30 minutes. The experience wasn't relaxing but the job was done. The pedicure was super nice and lasted a while, but my manicure only lasted one day (I'm usually able to get a regular manicure to last for 4-5 days).

I decided to give to reach out and Diamond Spa a go, and there is no other way else. I found my forever spot! Diamond Spa is a salon suite inside Phenix Salon Studios and gives a quiet and private experience. I never thought that I would prefer this, but it's so nice having the time and space to just yourself. Tina has a great set up. She a ton of different kinds of gel colors, a great massage chair, and a massive TV hooked up to Netflix. Her prices are also very reasonable compared to competitors. I also like that you can call her, message her via text or Yelp. Tina herself, provides great conversation, great quality service and super thorough work. She checked in with me every now and then. I'm usually really quiet because I have anxiety.
