Super helpful service, friendly environment, and amazing selection! The best family-owned business I've visited since moving to Portland.

I have wanted a butsudan for my family's departed grandparents but always assumed they were super expensive.

Well, they had "more appropriate Religious Crucifixes" and so forth…read more A lot of true religious items are being "messed with", where Sacred Jesus does NOT LOOK LIKE HIMSELF. And so forth. Those who are TRUE CATHOLICS who read this review will know what I am referring to here. "Gifts" had some religious items "closer to the truth", but still not quite there. Something is happening in our world, and the 'evil one ' clearly has had a hand in it. Still . . . the locations isn't great, but they do have some items. One shouldn't have to search around Portland to find "the truth" in terms of "true religious items". Too much (again) is being messed with.

This store has rosaries of all levels of fanciness, as well as parts for making your own (crucifixes, Mary pendants, beads), saint medals, other chaplets, holy water bottles, and plenty of holy/prayer cards. They have a great selection of books, both those for a popular audience (might I recommend Cardinal Sarah's The Power of Silence), and more liturgical books: missals, all 4 books of the Divine Office, etc. Got my fingers crossed to see a Graduale Romanum next time! There're good kids' and teens' sections as well. I got a comic book Bible, which with my attention span, is the easiest way to get myself to actually spend time reading it :) They have cards for all sacraments, and other occasions. There are plenty of First Communion gift sets - seriously, come here if you know somebody who's having their first communion. I also come here for all my Christmas cards. Check out Gifts of the Spirit sometime! It's worth the trip for any Portland Catholic. Open Tues - Sat.

We stopped by this little religious bookstore to find gift items for our friends and family, but also to grab a latte since we were already in the area. Little did I know, this was part of Mount Angel Abbey Seminary. As you enter the Mount Angel Abbey grounds, you'll drive all the way up past the old cemetery, and the bookstore and coffeehouse is located right behind it. ~ The bookstore itself has everything from devotional cards, to rosaries, patron saint coins, lots of candles, books in theology, statues, various size crosses, and lots of other gift items. The coffee area also had Benedictine Brewery schwag, their bottled beers, as well as fancy coffee mugs that we purchased. The lady behind the counter was also very nice. ~ As for the coffeehouse, it was a little room that overlooks the trail and forest at the back of the store. The coffee menu was pretty decent in selection. They can even brew some tea if you like. I had the Chai latte, which I really enjoyed with a chocolate orange dipped biscotti. The tables were clean for the most part, and the lady that brewed our drinks was helpful and cordial as well. Overall, with everyone being sensitive about religion nowadays, I'm keeping my review as simple and respectful as possible. This may not be the place for everyone, but if you're Catholic or consider yourself Christian (my family is split, so I'm a hybrid), then I consider this to be a good place to grab something special or just relax and have some coffee. For the most part, for us, it was peaceful. ...and then go grab a beer at their brewery down the road ;)

So happy I happened upon this shop today as I was heading down NE Killingsworth after an…read moreappointment (and a pit stop at Tehuana Oaxaca food truck who have the Best. Tacos. Ever.) As I was driving by, a blue and white robe in the shop caught my eye. Seriously. I could tell it was made out of Turkish cotton and I have been trying to find Turkish Cotton bath towels. I pulled a U-y, parked, and ventured it. There is a bit of everything in the shop, vintage and modern, just as their card states. Beautiful, affordable jewelry by Amaree & Reece (love their designs) and other local jewelry artists. There is a vast selection of sun glasses in fun mod and vintage shapes. They had Mia Clogs, which I used to wear in the 70s! I didn't even know Mia was still in existence. In the back of the shop, there are vintage dresses, hats, purses, shirts and more. The robe that caught my eye was indeed Turkish Cotton. In fact, the shop is known for their collection of Turkish Cotton and has striped towels in every color with white: navy, aqua, pink, fuschia, purple, yellow, mint green, peach, gray, tan, multi-bright, multi-blue and more. I love Turkish Cotton because it's super absorbent, washes well, dries quickly and takes up no space. Since I am in the pool 1-2 times daily (lap swimming and water aerobics) a towel that adds no weight to my gym bad, gets me dry, and dries quickly is a win-win-win! Marcy, the owner, always offers one or two colors at a special price to encourage people to try them. Today the basket had the multi-bright and the multi-blue. Since blue is my favorite color, there was no hesitation! I bought a bath sheet and a matching hand towel that I will use for my hair. Can't wait to tell my swimming buddies because they will all want them! Marcy, the owner, was very friendly and helpful while allowing me to browse uninterrupted and just enjoy trying on hats and sunglasses along the way. I'm definitely adding Shipwreck to the list of shops that I visit just to see what's new. Until the next time, I will enjoy the heck out of my new towels.
