I never noticed this place, until I read the Yelp reviews. So wife and I tried it last night, and really enjoyed it. Yelp reviews were accurate. It's definitely a nice change from the typical Pad Thai/Lard Nar style of Thai food (not that I don't enjoy that). It's a more interesting, smaller menu. The food was delicious, and the decor very lovely and warm. The service is attentive and friendly. I would definitely go back. Why not 5 stars? I'm a tough grader. I am saving 5 stars for something that is out-of-this-world extraordinary. If I could have given it 4.25 - 4.5 stars, I would have. For those in/near Evanston who enjoy Thai food, I would give this a try. read more

Dishes are innovative and tasty but dessert portions could be more generous. The room is large, nicely decorated and comfortable. Server was courteous, offering suggestions when asked; kitchen and server were very efficient. Parking is really easy, a plus when weather is inclement. read more

I felt the portions were small and some of the dishes, in particular the fish flake covered watermelon, were not very good. In fact, that particular dish, despite looking nice, was kind of gross, and we didn't finish it. The staff were friendly and I'd give it another shot if invited out, but can't see myself going there again of my own volition. The quality of Nakorn's food is superb! I just visited Thailand recently, and this food brought me right back. The flavors are on point, the service is friendly, and the menu is diverse. The owner seems so kind and truly interested in the patrons. It is a little bit expensive, but I don't think it's unreasonable (especially for the quality of the food). Additionally, they have a patio so you can bring your dog when you go to dinner and you can enjoy the outdoors :) read more

The decor and the atmosphere was exceptional. From the abacus lined bar to the birdcage lights, the details built a great ambience. For lunch, we shared the coconut prawns and the longevity noodles. I felt like the food lacked flavor in general. The coconut prawns were inherently good but the coconut milk broth and noodles it came with had little flavor. The longevity noodles were okay but the stir-fry vegetables also lacked flavor or maybe just didn't have salt. Anyway, I think if we will come again, it'll be for a drink at the bar to enjoy the ambience. read more

What I've known as Thai Food has always been limited; go-to dishes I've had in the past have been fine, but never made Thai a high choice in dining options. My intentions were to know more, once I found or was presented with the opportunity. To that end, when a friend recommended NaKorn in Evanston, I went hoping it would be that different and better Thai cooking experience. I came away very impressed. My favorite was the crab cake bite appetizer; and my entree, the Khun Sompit's Big Fish, was juicy and flavorful. I tried my friend's short ribs and that was delicious as well. The Evanston-brewed Sketchbook Honey Bird APA was a nice option on their beer list. The service was just right; attentive without being intrusive. This restaurant is TOP quality!!! Everything from the ambiance, to the servers, to the amazing authentic food. This restaurant is our favorite in all of Chicagoland area. It is well decorated, they always remember us as repeat customers and the food is reasonably priced for the quality you get! I absolutely LOVE the coconut curry braised chicken. The chicken is so tender and the flavors of the curry are so rich and unique! My favorite are the slivered almonds and the crispy shredded sweet potatoes. They add a perfect crunch to the dish. We are looking for a fabulous Thai restaurant with delectable curry dishes ...NaKorn is not that, unfortunately. Very nice atmosphere and lovely decor--- especially the wood/cane bird cages hung above. The place was sparse on a Friday night...Menu was very 'short'...the dishes are a sort of a made up fusion of I guess Thai and '?" with nice presentation. Nakorn is one of the best if not the best restaurant in Evanston. Everything is impressive. The ambiance and the artistic design are unique and welcoming. Since I visited few weeks ago I feel like going back all the time. I don't know how to start Nakorn has the best raspberry hibiscus soda I have ever tasted. It is made in house and to perfection in terms of sweet/sour balance, taste and sense of freshness. I tasted the Arctic Char which I found very reach in taste and aromas. This is the best fish dish I had in Evanston for sure. I also strongly recommend the Cauliflower rice. My friend ordered it and I got to taste it and found it very delicious. I strongly recommend Coconut Curry Chicken. Exceptional aroma. I give Nakorn 10 out of 10 for food presentation and taste. Desserts: Nakorn offers exceptional deserts: Mango Sticky Rice was superb along with the chocolate mousse. The dessert menu offered nontraditional, very tasty with excellent presentation and freshness. The service is exceptional: hostess, waiter and table server are very warm and kind, professional and friendly. The owners come to table to friendly greet you, to tell you a story about the meals you have ordered and to thank you for visiting. I find that very rare and special in a culture where often in other restaurants the treatment is impersonal. Both the ambiance and personnel give a feeling of warmth, true care, unique and world class meal and a very happy ambiance. Coming from Hawaii, my first trip to Chicago for a convention, I had reservations months in advance to every " must " restaurant. However, the buzz about this place was contagious. So we took the 20 minute uber from The Loop to Nakorn. We were very pleased with the ambiance and authentic, yet non- typical Thai restaurant experience. I met three friends for dinner. We each ordered an entree and were offered a choice of jasmine or coconut rice. The server did not tell us that the coconut rice was an up charge of $1.00/dish. There was no flavor of coconut in the so-called coconut rice. The dishes served were appropriately cooked, portions adequate...but no one will go home with a box, so don't know if they would be adequate for a hearty eater. No one checked on water supply until I asked for water while coughing. I would try the Italian place next door when next in the neighborhood! In response to comment from owner. I ordered the duck noodle soup and pomelo salad for takeout. They were presented well in the takeout containers. The pomelo salad was refreshing - cold with a nice balance of sweet and sour and crunch from the peanuts. The duck noodle soup tasted authentic. I believe the soup is mushroom broth. If you dislike mushroom, you probably wouldn't enjoy this entree. The portion of the duck noodle soup entree is on the smaller side, and the reason why one star is taken out. I wanted to like you NaKorn, I really did.. but unfortunately I was not impressed. First off, I definitely do not categorize this as authentic Thai food. It's basically fancy Thai Asian fusion. It's literally like the Imperial Lamian of Thai food if you've ever been there. (You can read my Imperial Lamian review to understand more). I have to say I will give this place 5 stars on their presentation of their dishes. Their service was good, except for the fact that they were too attentive. They literally checked on us every 3-5 minutes. I was mid biting into my chicken appetizer while the bus boy decided to change our plates out since our entrees were coming. I felt as though I couldn't even take a break during the dinner because they kept wanting to clear our plates. I had to pretend I was eating so that they wouldn't bother us. We ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Noodles, I really liked the yellow curry that came with the dish. I didn't care for the rest of the dish. Not even sure if the crab was fresh or from a can. The Taro Chicken appetizer had a soggy peanut sauce that was unappetizing as well as the chicken being soggy too. The presentation of this dish was 5 stars but the taste was definitely lacking. Lastly was the braised short ribs- it really tasted like something my parents make at home. There was nothing special about the dish and the brown rice that came with it was quite hard to chew. Again the presentation was great, but the dish was just basic! I am utterly disappointed after reading all of the reviews, I expected more. I unfortunately will not be recommending this place to my friends or family. I guess if you want an Instagram worthy meal that lacks flavor, then definitely go here. read more

Ambiance: only experience was outside however was told the interior is very impressive. Beverage: always good to have choice of Thai beer plus a choice of local micro brews served. Food: the sauces that accompanied Arctic char and coconut-curry chicken were superb requiring extra rice to insure "good to last drop". Desert: Mango, coconut sweet sticky rice deserves a "special mention" for presentation and combination of flavors. Chocolate mousse was a surprisingly large portion that was shared earning rave reviews. In summary NaKorn has joined my limited Evanston restaurants go to list. Flavors were good, service was great. The taro chicken appetizer, however, had a piece of grizzly, fatty chicken as one of the four small sushi-sized pieces for $8. That lack of attention to detail with higher end prices disappointed me. Also, the Coconut-Tamarind Sauce Sautéed Rice Noodle had good flavors, but pretty unappetizing, gritty texture. The atmosphere inside is really nice, and they have some outside tables as well when weather is welcoming. Classic thai ingredients presented in a creative way that is refreshing and delightful to your tastebuds. This review is for the lunch menu, and I would give 3.5 stars if I could. We ordered the taro chicken and the watermelon to share. The taro chicken was really good, and the watermelon with salmon toppings was a weird combination. I didn't like the salmon to be that sweet, given the watermelon was already sweet. Then we each ordered different entrees. The presentation of food was really beautiful! Mine was the Braised Chicken Breast with Thin Rice Noodle. The broth and the noodle tasted very good, but the chicken breast was dry and tasteless. I didn't try my friends' Coconut-Tamarind Sauce Sautéed Rice Noodle and Grilled Amish Chicken.
