    Got rice?
    Naz B.

Namaste is the most comprehensive Indian grocery store in Rochester. They have a huge...oops, I mean "hujah" variety of vegetables which aren't commonly found in Wegmans. Moreover, they are cheaper here as well. In addition, they carry fresh turmeric and tamarind (elusive ingredients in Rochester). They have everything you can possibly need to put together an Indian dish. From bitter gourd to asafoetida to a dozen types of rice (Ponni, Basmati, Sona Masuri, etc) to a million varieties of frozen pratas, you are unlikely to need to set foot into another Indian store to finish your shopping list. You can also get your Bollywood fix here - from DVD rentals to fulfill your Shahrukh Khan craving to beautiful but somewhat overpriced salwar kameezes to wear to fancy parties. I took off a star because navigating the vegetable section is alarmingly similar to going through an obstacle course. I almost tripped over giant boxes of cilantro and came close to face planting in green chillis. Okay, I wouldn't really mind the latter but it is not optimal for most people. I hope they reorganize the front to add another row of vegetables. The staff is friendly and helpful as well (which is something to consider if you are venturing into this store for the first time - it can be overwhelming given they have a huge variety of spices and food). For your Indian cooking needs, you need to look no further than Namaste.

    Store front at night.

One of the best places to buy spices for price and quality. Definitely recommend a trip off the beaten path.

The only place in the Rochester area I've found with a consistent supply of fresh turmeric.

I've been here before but never got around to writing a review, glad we stopped in recently!…read more I used to think, since it's a Co-Op, it was only for members. But that's changed (or maybe I just misunderstood!), and now anyone can shop here. Prices are a bit higher about $2-$5 more than other grocery stores depending on what you're getting, also know you're supporting a community focused, local business. It's not a huge place, but they've got a solid selection of essentials, and some nice specialty items too. There's even an outdoor area if you want to relax with a snack or a drink. Staff is pleasant, friendly and helpful. They have private parking lot! I'll definitely be back.

It's a bit of a drive for me, but worth it. The staff were so pleasant, kind, and patient. I have a disability, and Richard took his time to explain everything to me. You can just go in and shop, or you can join the co-op. I joined, there are a lot of benefits, including discounts, events, they want to hear from you, and suggestions. It's in the South Wedge. A great neighborhood, and it's decorated outside and has some amazing murals so you can't miss it. I wish I had thought to take pictures. Will do it next time. Bring your own bags. Parking was easy. The aisles are nice and wide. They have small baskets that roll, making it really easy for someone with disabilities to shop. Their meat section is all frozen, which is fine. I bought frozen wild salmon. They have a big sausage section, with some delicious sounding ingredients. I will have to get some next time.
