05/21/26 - Our friend & Investment advisor w/her husband were over today to discuss handling of my wife's retirement funds as she finally decided to to retire. After we were finished they offered to take us out for a celebration retirement dinner. They mentioned sushi. I quickly looked on Yelp & found a sushi restaurant named Nami Sushi @ 7344 W Lawerence Ave in Harwood Heights, IL that's rated 4.5 stars in Yelp. Nami Sushi is located in a strip mall on Lawerence Ave. We found that they have a fairly extensive menu of different sushi's. We started out w/several appetizers. The first one & of my favorites was the soft shell crab which was delicious. We also ordered several sushi rolls to be shared w/the table. They came together on one platter. One was an assortment of sashimi on rice. The pieces of sashimi were very skimpy. The other sushi roll was ok. The best appetizer was the soft shell crab deep fried & served w/a dipping sauce. After the appetizers we ordered our dishes. My wife and her friend ordered a chicken teriyaki dinner that came w/miso soup, an artistically arranged salad & chicken teriyaki which was mediocre quality chicken. Sorry to say the chicken wasn't very tender & kind of lacked flavor. My buddy says every time he flies to the Philippines (he's Guatemalan) they stop in either Japan or Korea he orders Tempura Udon in the airport. I ordered the shrimp tempura & vegetable tempura. The quantity was generous but the shrimp tempura batter was lacking. By this I mean good tempura batter/panko is very light, flaky & crispy, this was none of the aforementioned. The batter was heavy & lacked the consistency that shrimp tempura should have. The vegetable tempura was decent. I especially liked the onion & the red pepper as the tempura batter nicely complimented these vegetables. This also came w/miso soup & an artistically presented salad. Overall the restaurant is nice the service was good but sorry to say the food was lacking. For me personally I was disappointed as the Yelp reviews had 4 1/1 stars that I didn't feel were justified. read more

I have not eaten at Nami Sushi in several years (post Covid), because there are no more good "deals" at restaurants. I rarely go out to eat anymore due to high prices at restaurants. On Sept. 2, 2026, I had a hankering for sushi, so I immediately thought of Nami Sushi. The prices, like EVERYWHERE else, have definitely increased. No more $4 8-roll sushi specials like they used to have in 2019 to 2023 (you can read my 2019 review). I ordered lunch for my niece and I (she was in town for the day as she is a Flight Attendant). We ordered the spicy white tuna and spicy salmon rolls. I ordered a chicken bento box (which came with salad, Miso soup and CA rolls). The quality of the food was OK, but the price point was so high that I was shocked when they told me the "total" for our lunch order. This was a carry-out/take out order. When I have to drive to a restaurant, use my time and gas, to pick up an order I do NOT tip. The interior (ambiance) of the restaurant is the same, but now it appears tired and worn. The Owner is still the same guy. He's very dedicated to the craft of making fresh sushi. His wife (who is Japanese) was not present. The front register employee was very professional, hospitable, welcoming and friendly. I could NOT put my finger on WHAT happened here. I enjoyed the chicken bento box lunch. The chicken was very tender and flavorful. It was very tasty and I enjoyed it very much. It was definitely NOT the same price point for "lunch specials" that were offered in 2019-2023 (like every restaurant the cost of food has increased significantly). Maybe they were having an "OFF" day, so I will give Nami Sushi the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I will try them again, but not any time soon. read more

I tried to order in advance on my car ride to the restaurant well in advance for the 11:50 AM pick up, but when I arrived, they did not receive my order. They have a very extensive menu with a lot of creative rolls. The person taking my order at the restaurant was very quick and reassuring that I would be able to get my food in like 10 minutes. When I came back he was already on his way to handing me the bag, such sweet and attentive service. I got the midnight heat and the sunrise sushi roll and a California roll. The sushi itself tasted great, but I have to say that the presentation was slightly questionable. The rolling did look a little sloppy, but that might be because there was pressure to rush my order. Also they give a lot of extra ginger, which I love and this is without asking, so kudos to them for that. Either way, I would be happy to come back in order more sushi rolls from here. read more

Came here on a random Saturday night and they do not take reservations however we were lucky to be able to walk in and find a table immediately. This is located in a strip mall so there is a lot of shared parking. However, the strip mall is a full occupancy and parking can be scarce. This is my first visit here and I have to say it was very good considering that it was definitely a modern take at sushi as well as maintaining some of the respect for the traditional parts of the recipe. For example, we did order an udon soup and that was very good. The broth was rich and had flavors beyond just being a unilateral flavor. We ordered a bit of sushi and all were very fun creative combinations. Definitely not traditional and definitely for someone who wants to take a risk and try something new. I would definitely come here for something that is fairly priced affordable good portions and takes a creative modern. Look at sushi in a very unpretentious environment and location. read more

Service was good and it was nice to see that the owners have a diverse staff. We ordered hamachi kama, namaste don, and the three musketeers roll to share. The fish was reasonably fresh and the roll was tasty. Unfortunately the kama was disappointing with a fishy taste, probably because it wasn't as fresh before it was grilled. I've had hamachi kama at other places and it's always incredible, but at Nami Sushi it was lousy. I told the waiter but he didn't seem concerned and there was no adjustment on the check. What a fantastic sushi restaurant! My sister and I wanted some last minute sushi for dinner so we opted in for Nami Sushi. It's a relatively small restaurant with parking right in front which is super convenient. There was no one there when we came around 5ish on a Thursday, but there was a ton of consistent online orders plus more people dined in later. Our server was very polite and attentive, as well. The sushi is absolutely amazing. We were blown away by the freshness and noticeable good quality of the sushi rolls. I got the fire dragon roll and a classic avocado & salmon roll. The fire dragon roll was a straight 10/10. Sooo big, fresh, and just delicious (around 12 pieces). The salmon & avocado roll was super fresh and tasty, too. My sister got Chicago crazy roll and the crunchy spicy tuna roll. I had some as well and they were seriously all a 10/10! We got crab Rangoons for an app, too, and also enjoyed them a lot. It sure doesn't look like much. This is in a crummy looking strip mall with a lot of empty storefronts. Coming at lunch was a good idea. There's lunch specials. It was $3 for some salads and appetizers. We got the Seaweed Salad. It was simple but good. Lightly seasoned with soy sauce and sesame seeds. It had specials at lunch. We got the modest yet impressive Sweet Potato Tempera Roll Lunch Special. It's about $4.75, which is a good price for a roll around here. There was a nice crunchiness and it was filling for a light lunch. Best to come at lunch to get things cheaper. It has a few specials to choose from. My usual sushi place closed during COVID so I was on the hunt for a new go-to sushi restaurant. I found Nami through yelp, looked over the menu and thought I'd give them a try. We decided on pick-up since there is no outside seating. The tables inside appeared to be 6 feet apart and all employees were wearing masks. When I called to place my order the gentleman I spoke with was friendly and the pickup time was a reasonable 30 minutes for a pretty large order. One of my daughters does not eat sushi so she ordered the beef teriyaki with vegetables. She thought the dish was incredible (and she's a picky eater). The rest of out family (4 of is) ordered an assortment of rolls. Everything we great. I can't say there was a must order roll in the 8 that we ordered but all were good. I visited this place based on the reviews. Its location is in a small strip mall and I was slightly concerned because on a Saturday night it was not overly busy. We ordered some edamame for an appetizer and I felt like it was slightly over-cooked if that's possible as the pods we're coming out but the outer shell was simply falling apart and peeling and you ended up picking it out of your teeth. The portions were good the sushi that myself and one of my staff ordered specifically the green dragon was good in theory except the shrimp tasted as if it had been previously cooked set aside and used for tonight. The beef teriyaki dish had plenty of food and was reasonably well liked by my other staff member. I should also mention that you cannot buy beer or wine here it is a BYOB restaurant. We ordered, the Las Vegas roll, salmon avocado roll, udon, and tempura (that came with the udon). The Las Vegas roll is the BOMB AGAIN! the udon was very refreshing and awesome flavor. Great soup to have on a cold afternoon in Chicago. The salmon avocado roll was goo-great. The salmon tasted fresh and matched well with the rice. The tempura was slightly rubbery, but maybe because the to go order was there for a little prior to our arrival. Overall, tasted way better than my last visit. Everything was great. I came here with some friends not too long ago, and I must say, the sushi was phenomenal, but the service was so absolutely awful, it ruined a lot of the experience for me. Our waitress only came to see us like twice throughout the whole meal, and it took almost an hour to get our sushi. Yes, there were four of us here and we each got two or three specialty rolls each, but it still was annoying that all of these people who were coming into the restaurant long after us were being served before us. The restaurant was very clean and the food was fresh and it melted in my mouth, though, so amen to that! I ordered the black spicy tuna roll and a flaming fire dragon roll (which comes on a plate with oil on fire!). Both rolls are amazing! Our table also shared the lobster rolls, which were probably my favorite because the flavor was so different than anything I have ever tried before. Great sushi, very long wait. We ordered six different rolls, miso and appetizers via website and were given a 45 minute timeframe to pick food up. Arrived about 50 minutes later to pick up the food and were told it was not ready yet, too another 50 minutes to pick food up. The sushi were very good and reasonably priced but wait was insane. Next time we'll call instead to get correct time as many walk-ins were told the wait was 1:45-2 hours long. read more
