I'm disappointed with my recent orders from Gorilla Sushi. Every time I order sushi, I do not seem to get the ingredients I requested. I ordered the unagi roll, but there was no unagi in it. I also ordered the dragon roll, and there was either no unagi in it or barely any at all. When customers pay for specific rolls, the key ingredients should actually be included. This has happened repeatedly, so it feels like the orders are not being checked before they go out. I hope they improve their quality control because it is frustrating to keep paying for items that are missing what I ordered. read more

This may be my favorite sushi on a budget in chicago. The quality is good, the prices are fantastic. It's between $3-5 for each plate, the special rolls come with four pieces and the regular rolls come with six. You can eat a decent portion here for $15-20. Absolute try the spicy trio roll, it has nice toppings and the meat inside is very good as well. Also love the negi hamachi and tigger rolls here. read more

I had ordered sushi from here for a very long time and have usually never had a bad experience. Today, I ordered through an online order and had it delivered to my house. I had ordered edamame, gyoza, two miso soups and three sushi rolls. My wife is a type one diabetic, and she specifically had requested the edamame. She was consuming this product and was popping the beans out of its shell when she got halfway through , she had popped out a bug or some sort of. I'm not sure what this is. Diabetics have a lower immune system so this could potentially send her to visit a doctor or even to be hospitalized. I am not sure if there is a new owner or new staff. Maybe they are feeling tired or overworked. I am extremely disappointed and repulsed by this. We threw everything else away. I reported this to uber eats . It is such a shame, we finally thought we could trust this place. read more

What a fantastic experience here at Gorilla Sushi. Talk about delicious sushi at such an affordable price! I came here on Sunday around noon-ish (they open at 11:30am), and the place was completely empty. We got to sit wherever we wanted. I noticed they had a good amount of to-go orders that were consistently coming through. It's a relatively small sushi spot and gives me authentic vibes. They give you a warm wipe at the beginning to wipe your hands before you eat. They also leave a pitcher of water with you which is nice. On all the tables there's a jar with napkins, reusable chopsticks, and straws which is convenient. Our server was soooo sweet. Very attentive and polite! She was precoppied later once we already got our food with to-go orders and came to apologize that she didn't check in sooner which was so sweet. She was totally good anyway, we didn't even notice! Truly a very nice staff. The sushi is what did it. EVERYTHING was beyond fresh, you could tell instantly. I was pleasantly surprised with the inexpensive regular rolls that came so fresh, nicely made, flavorful, and were of quality. All the regular rolls were $3.95, but they also have special rolls which are a few bucks more depending which roll you get. This place is great, they are fast and attentive, and the food sizes and pricing are reasonable too. Yes the rolls are smaller than other places but they're also only 3.95 each - as of late 2024 at least, so you get to choose as many different things or as few things as you want without having to be that worried about food waste. The fried shumai app is amazing, as are their small salads. The sushi is tasty, although it'd be great to see some more variety, but I haven't run out of things to order yet. Also if you dine in parking isn't that great thanks to people being a bit wacky on that part of Milwaukee. Don't park at the McDonalds - McD has people monitoring for that. Go down the side street near the city building and the park and there should be some spots there hopefully. read more

Ordered pickup. Somewhat of a busy intersection with little parking right next to Jefferson Park. I luckily found a spot in front and was able to run in. Small restaurant, greeted and was given my order quickly. We ordered the Mexican Roll, the Godzilla Roll, the Valentino Roll, and the Redeye Roll. Along with an order of calamari. The calamari was good, not great, and needed a lemon wedge to accompany it. Most of the sushi rolls we ordered were signature rolls, a bit pricier. DEFINITELY worth it! Each came with 8 pieces and some rolls were huge. The Godzilla in particular was delicious, both crunchy and fresh (shrimp tempura inside and spicy tuna on top), and felt like double the amount of a regular piece. Easily could have been 14-16 regular pieces. The Valentino was our second favorite (fresh water eel, cream cheese, unagi sauce, among other things and topped with a grape tomato). This place is always amazing. I come here very often, and tonight my husband came here to support on small business Saturday. We love that we have such a great byob place so close to the house for date night. The servers are always super polite and the orders always come out quick. Today, I asked the server about the specials in the board and she recommended the salmon teriyaki. Wow! What a great suggestion taste wise and price wise! For $16 you get a nice chunk of salmon, rice with seasoning on top, and a delicious salad along with a side of miso soup. The whole dish was outstanding, even my husband was raving about it (and he's not a big fan of sushi places). I love this place and will remain a regular for a long time. read more

My motto usually is "it's all about the ratios" but lately I think it's become a matter of QUANTITY -vs- QUALITY. The quality was good. The quantity for what was paid was a joke. Granted I chose delivery instead of takeout but that was only because of Yelp not having the option to do takeout. Your girl was feeling anti-social and did not feel like chatting on the phone...SO DELIVERY IT WAS! What I disliked about the ordering process was all of the items ordered did not include the number of pieces you were getting. Except for one. The spider roll. The spider roll was suppose to be 8 pieces. We only received 6. When I went back to double check, the number of pieces weren't listed out post payment on the receipt. Was I gaslighting myself ? Was the sushi gaslighting me? A saga.. The rest of the sushi rolls were only 4 pieces.... 4... Unbelievable. I am still hungry. 3 gyozas for 4.00 just hurt my soul. The ambiance is not really the best for dine in because it's very small but it's not bad. Personally I gave this 5 stars because it is my go-to place for sushi take out. The prices are great and the service is always very quick. Every time I call they say my food will be ready in 10(15 minutes on busier days) and we place a pretty decent sized order. The sushi is always well packaged and of the hundreds of times I order from her they have never made any mistakes. Great place for sushi ! It's a small location but it's doable. I ordered the (8) piece Godzilla Roll and it was delicious . It has shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, seared tuna and topped with a delicious sauce . Perfect combination that results in a perfect dish for the taste buds!!!! I also had their miso soup. It was very good. It's your typical miso soup with the cubes of tofu. It was perfect for the night to warm up with since it was a cold night. The Tai Iced Tea is really good. Just a warning it is sweet. So if your not a person who likes sweetened drinks it may not be a drink for you. The atmosphere is nice. Like I said it is a small place, but the size makes it feel cozy. We usually order from Lawrence Fish Market, but, wanted to find a place that was closer to home. My daughter recommended Gorilla Sushi so we decided to give it a try. We tried a variety of sushi rolls and the first 2 we tried are now my favorite rolls to order: spicy tuna roll and volcano roll. The spicy tuna is mixed with sesame oil and special spicy sauce - you get 6 pieces. The volcano roll is spicy tuna topped w/torched spicy scallop - 4 pieces. I like this roll because it's creamy, rich and has a slight char due to the torched spicy scallop. In addition to these 2 rolls, my daughter loved the spicy trio roll which is spicy salmon and tempura crunch topped with tuna, white tuna, spicy mayo, unagi sauce and tobiko. The special rolls, starters, regular rolls and nigiri are all $2.95. The special rolls have 4 pieces, the regular rolls have 6 pieces. The nigiri is 2 pieces. We also tried the bazooka jalapeno (2 pieces) which is deep fried jalapeno,spicy tuna and cream cheese topped with unagi sauce. I enjoyed this very much but would probably stick to the rolls. We also tried the fried shumai (4 pieces) deep fried shrimp dumpling served with homemade sauce. This was just OK and was slightly hard. Probably wouldn't order the shumai again. We tried both the Thai iced tea and coffee. Although I usually prefer the coffee over the tea, the tea here was a bit on the sweet side. Free bowl of miso soup with Yelp check-in. Super bummed we have ordered from here via grub hub 6 times in the last two months because we love their sushi and the variety. We normally stick to the same rolls or apps and they have always been delicious and consistent last night the spicy tuna on two items which are normally bright red were dark brown and looked and tasted cooked versus fresh and raw. The eel was not fresh and had a funny odor. The rice was over cooked and one of the roll pieces was just rice nothing else. When we called last night they apologized and said they were going to talk to their manager asap. Well even more disappointed that we didn't receive any call back especially after reading if raw tuna is brown it means it has spoiled which makes sense as the taste was unpleasant.
