Kabob
Shuja N.

Hands down the best kabob in town! Juicy and perfectly grilled -- Definitely my go-to spot for authentic Afghan food. And the service was good and quick!!!

Mantoo
Austin S.

This is the best food spot in the valley other than UOVO. You have to order the Mantoo. I haven't tried the kabobs yet, but I'm sure they are great too.

Kabully palaw meat

The meat in the rice smelled bad. Not worth the price. The rice meat and the kebabs meat were not fresh. Not happy visiting this restaurant.

Sabzi, mantu, kabuli pulao, and aushak

Had my first taste of Afghan cuisine here. The restaurant offered all the classic dishes and it all tasted amazingly. The service was great, the food came out quickly and hot and I keep thinking about how good it all was. We tried the sabzi, mantu, aushak, kabuli pulao and bolani. Highlight was definitely the lamb in the kabuli pulao -- it was tender and cooked perfectly. My only wish was that the restaurant was nearer to where I live! One other thing to note is that the menu did NOT have any of the Afghan items listed. The staff said they're getting new menus printed soon with the full menu.

This kabaB was very tasty.

This restaurant has very delicious food and very friendly people And there is a very peaceful environment for everyone, especially for families. And I want to come here again and again with my family.

Best Afghan food

We came to this place on our way from San Diego to San Francisco and got there 5 mins before closing but this gentleman as a typical Afghan style hospitality said no way he'd let us go with empty stomach. He made us Ashak, mantu, qabli and lamb kabob and honestly speaking everything was finger licking good and better than any other place I had eaten. Truly authentic Afghan cuisine. My son who loves mantu said it was better than grandma's mantu which is a huge compliment. He even made us tea to fill up our thermos (Afghans know how important our tea during trips are) He showed us the typical Afghan hospitality that here aboard you rarely get to experience and made us feel very welcomed even though he had every right to refuse us for he was technically closed. This will be our regular stop during our trips to Los Angeles!!

Dessert

I had an amazing experience at [Nan dagh Kabab dagh]! Their Dessert was absolutely delicious--rich, creamy, and perfectly flavored. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients because the taste is just so fresh and authentic.and I'd go back just for that. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. If you're a fan of desserts, this is definitely the place to try!"

Our first time eating Afghan food and it was DELICIOUS!

Open until 4am, their food was always fresh, clean, the staff were polite and professional, and the price was about the best deal you'd find downtown. A good, honest restaurant and business, which is rare in LA these days. I walked down there tonight and can confirm that the place is closed and the inside is being cleared out. Not sure why, but since there have been other locations around the LA area over the past several years, maybe they're just moving again. I wish them all the best! To Anwar and staff, thank you for the delicious and healthy food over the years, and for running a tight ship. I hope I see that Wolverine mural pop up somewhere else, soon!

I keep coming back to Anwar's Kitchen for one simple reason: the food is consistently good. Not…read more"pretty good for takeout," not "good on a lucky day," just genuinely solid every single time. This time, I went with the Anwar Style Chicken Shawarma to try something new. The portion size alone is impressive. The container is packed and feels substantial the moment you pick it up. The base is a bed of fries, and these are not just filler. They are thick, well seasoned, and sturdy enough to handle all the toppings without turning into a soggy mess. On top of the fries is a generous amount of chicken. The chicken tastes freshly cooked, with that warm, savory flavor you expect from good shawarma, never dry and never overly salty. There are pita chips mixed in, which add a great crunch and texture against the fries and chicken. Multiple sauces are drizzled throughout the dish. I chose a side of their spicy sauce. The creamy white sauce balances things out, while the orange sauce brings a mild heat and a little extra depth. None of the sauces overpower the dish, they work together to coat everything evenly and keep every bite flavorful. Diced tomatoes and corn adds a touch of sweetness that surprisingly works really well here. A sprinkle of herbs throughout helps brighten everything up and keeps the dish from feeling too heavy, even though it is definitely filling. This is comfort food done right. It is messy in the best way, packed with flavor, at least to me it was. If you are looking for something hearty, satisfying, and consistently well made, I will always recommend Anwar's Kitchen. Anwar's Kitchen delivers quality food, and I will keep ordering from them.

It was also annoying for the waitress (not the gal that served us btw - a host perhaps) to give the vibe like they were doing us a favor by applying the $50 Birthday promo that THEY send via email (note, I verbally this flagged when we arrived just in case - but they didn't initially have it on our bill). My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Didn't get to try the lamb chops and a few other meats, but still has a nice variety. Salad bar is top notch and consistent, although wish their black beans were plain due to all the meat. Drinks were ok--heavy pours but lower quality wine. The $29 "Wine Experience" package was worth it for my husband who likes variety of wines with his dinner depending on what he's eating. I'm sure I'll come again but it's been bumped a few notches on my Go To list.

Then guy who told the girl to seat us was just standing around d chit chatting with another employees for about 15 minutes before he even came to our table. He never even introduce himself. He just took our order. Another 20 mins came by before our food was served. OUR FOOD WAS ROOM TEMPERATURE. Short Rib was ok. The macaroni was stale and OLD! It was dry and not fresh! We asked for extra BBQ sauce and that didn't arrive for another 15 mins. We had to wave down another employee to try to get the sauce to us. I wouldn't recommend this place! Horrible service. Didn't even come around to see if we needed anything or if everything was good or not. We came here around 1:30pm on 3/16. The restroom was also out of paper towels and soap from the soda dispenser. Poor quality food! Glad I tried it, so I know to not come back again!

In addition to biryani, this South Asian spot makes hearty Pakistani dishes with bold spices and an emphasis on tender meat. Hyderabadi Lamb Biryani: This biryani is a magical blend of basmati rice, spices, onions, ghee, and lamb shank. The soft and luscious lamb meat easily flakes off the giant bone. The separate ingredients are beautifully layered together so the flavors are distinct and complementary. The warm spices provide great depth of flavor. On the side is a cool and creamy mint chutney. Nihari: Large tender beef shanks are slowly braised in a vibrant spice blend with onions, garlic, and ghee. The soft gelatinous connective tissue throughout the succulent meat is delicious coated in the rich and meaty stew. Tear chunks off the large chewy naan and form pockets filled with beef and gravy. Top it with raw onions, cilantro, ginger slivers, and a squeeze of lemon juice. The condiment plate here didn't have any chili peppers, but there was a little heat in the dish. Chicken Curry: Large chunks of boneless chicken thighs and potatoes are stewed in onions, tomatoes, and spices. The curry is thick and flavorful.
