Had my first taste of Afghan cuisine here. The restaurant offered all the classic dishes and it all tasted amazingly. The service was great, the food came out quickly and hot and I keep thinking about how good it all was. We tried the sabzi, mantu, aushak, kabuli pulao and bolani. Highlight was definitely the lamb in the kabuli pulao -- it was tender and cooked perfectly. My only wish was that the restaurant was nearer to where I live! Mantu was hearty and tasty, but lacked the expected yoghurt ribbon. It was microwaved since served within nano seconds of alighting in this American version of a Charikar truck stop. Lamb kebab was superb, wrapped in traditional bread. Afghan dishes are not on the menu and must be requested, so asking for the price of each item beforehand is recommended, so as to avoid an unpleasant surprise after dining. read more

We came to this place on our way from San Diego to San Francisco and got there 5 mins before closing but this gentleman as a typical Afghan style hospitality said no way he'd let us go with empty stomach. He made us Ashak, mantu, qabli and lamb kabob and honestly speaking everything was finger licking good and better than any other place I had eaten. Truly authentic Afghan cuisine. My son who loves mantu said it was better than grandma's mantu which is a huge compliment. He even made us tea to fill up our thermos (Afghans know how important our tea during trips are) He showed us the typical Afghan hospitality that here aboard you rarely get to experience and made us feel very welcomed even though he had every right to refuse us for he was technically closed. We had 2 main dishes Qabili palaw or Kabuli pulao, the Afghan national dish, which is a long grain rice with caramelized carrots & raisins with lamb meat, and . Mantu, a type of dumpling stuffed with seasoned ground lamb or beef & onions, dotted with creamy yogurt, plus Afghan kebabs - lamb, plus 2 kinds of chicken & beef. We did have a vegetarian with us so they could add more vegetarian dishes, but if you call they will try to accommodate your needs! I hope you will try this restaurant. The staff are personable and helpful. It's been under new ownership since April/May by people from Afghanistan's August 2021 evacuation.You can call and order requests. I've been searching for an Afghan restaurant in LA for ages! This is amongst my favorite cuisines in the world, but my cravings typically go unsatisfied until I visit the East coast. Some internet sleuthing revealed Nan Dagh Kabob in Reseda. The menu on the wall only listed various kebobs, but the internet promised that they would have kabuli pulao and mantu. I was in a time crunch, so I ordered it to go. Packed up very neatly, each dish was accompanied by a little side salad. The scent of lamb, cumin and coriander teasing me- I could hardly wait to eat! The aroma was right and I had been longing for these dishes for weeks! I was not disappointed when I got home. The fragrant rice, jeweled with sweet carrots and raisins, lamb slipping off the bone with the gentlest of proddings from my fork. The mantu's delicate skins and spiced lamb embellished by yogurt. My meal was just perfect, exactly what I had wanted and the portions were generous. So VERY worth the drive from Los Angeles. It's very hard to find Afghan cuisine, even in LA, so this is a find. It looks like an unassuming Kabob shop on the corner of Sherman and Lindley, but it's anything BUT "just a kabob shop." They offer a range of wonderful Afghan dishes...just ask the owner, if he doesn't have them posted: Qabili Palau (the afghan national lamb and rice dish); Aushak and Mantuo (both Afghan dumplings), Szabzhi, and many others. We had the Qabili Palau and some Mantuo. They were delicious. They have a decent sized dining room that's clean and simply-appointed. The proprietor is very nice and helpful and service was cheerful. The kabuli was superb. Everything else was very good. I would recommend they actually change the topping on the mantu. Ground beef on beef dumplings is too much and not traditional. Worse place I ever ate. Ordered mantu and beef kebab with rice. The food was horrible and not fresh. Me and my fiancé only took one bite of the mantu and it tasted disgusting. I asked the guy working in the front if he can replace it with something else. He brought a bit of chicken. At the end he over charged us also for the chicken which he said would be a replacement. The kebab and rice was listed around 18 dollar and the mantu too and we had two bottles of water and he wanted over 70 dollar. I eat afghan food every week at different places all my life and I have never tasted something bad like that. The place is dirty unprofessional and rude. Trust the bad reviews. I'm sure the other ones are just fake or bought. read more

First, let me announce that these guys are Not Persian, and you are Not gonna get even half way decent Persian food here. Now, the first time I came here was back in 2019 The owner was drinking tea, sitting at his usual spot in the dining room. I told him it was first time here, so he began to tell me this story about the employees from Rafi's in Glendale coming here to eat Kubideh because it's better than theirs, so I knew that was an absolute lie, but I thought hey if this guy has made up this story then he must really believe that his kabab is better than Rafi's. Lol So I said why not; let's give it a try. Big mistake. It was one of the worst kubidehs I have ever had. After that, I learned my lesson, and decided to never order "Persian Food" from this place. Instead, I decided that I would try afghan food, since they are afghan. I figured, surely they must know how to cook afghan food, right? Wrong. After trying their Polow a few of times, the food kept getting worse every time; I realized that they were serving me old and microwaved food. How do I know, well, when you dried up meat with deep burn marks in the bottom of the styrofoam container then you know the beef was nuked in it before the rice was poured on. Also the edges of the styrofoam container were curled inwards, indicating that the rice was also nuked after they poured it. My food tasted like styrofoam; it must have been full of those harmful chemicals. Obviously, They do NOT care about the customers' health. Any way, long story short, there is a reason why you never see a single person dining here; it's because food sucks, and there is no customer service in their vocabulary. By the way, he also brags about his catering service and how so many people order his food for their weddings etc. Ha! Must be another one of his stories. Do yourself a favor and go some place else; they neither know Persian food nor afghan. read more
