I've been meaning to try this location ever since I had heard Nan Xiang had a location in Connecticut. I have had a prior experience with Nan Xiang before when I went to their Express stop located in Williamsburg back in December of 2024, and that night did make me want to try more Nan Xiang. Today ended up being the perfect opportunity to try it, even though I didn't really get to have the full restaurant experience. The food item my order today had in common with what I had from the Williamsburg location were the signature Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings. In both locations these are very good soup dumplings. The one thing I will say I wish I had gotten to see was a guide on how to eat these dumplings. If you can have that in your Express locations, one would assume we could get the same thing here. If you're like me and suck at using chopsticks, how are we supposed to eat these properly? Maybe they might have something for those who were able to stay and eat, but because I had to get to a doctor's appointment (lower back problems) and grabbed this on the way, that was not in the cards. But the ambiance is classy and looks very upscale. Definitely a very inviting place to have some dim sum, and Nan Xiang was the business that warmed me up to dim sum, so I would like to come back here one day when I am in much less of a time crunch. The beautiful decorations are also worth coming back for. I especially loved the dragon that was watching TV from the bar. #DrinksWithDragons Another food item that would make me want to return was the other thing I ordered today, which were the cheese and shrimp fried potstickers. That soy sauce that came with it was banging out the frame, but even the first bite where I just had the potsticker by itself was divine. Seriously, I could eat these all day and I would be satisfied. The cheese and shrimp come together so well in a symphony of umami goodness. Also, the customer service left a good first impression as well. Even though it was 100 degrees outside, they allowed me to wait on a bench while they made my order. I even got to watch a rerun of the USA's win over Bosnia at the World Cup where the US got their 2nd goal despite being down a man from a red card. Also, if you order online, you could even have your food ready well before the time it tells you on your receipt. I was supposed to have mine ready between 1:36-41 and mine was good to go at about 1:15. I'd love to come to this spot again. I was excited to try this place given all the rave reviews, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for me. We started with the pork soup dumplings and steamed chicken dumplings. The options were fairly basic and tasted fresh, though I'm starting to think maybe I'm just not a 'dumpling guy!' The crispy chicken noodles, however, were below par. We tried a few bites but ended up leaving the rest of the dish untouched. If this is what authentic Chinese is supposed to taste like, I think I'll stick to the fusion spots I usually prefer. Like any new business, they've had to iron out some logistical growing pains--specifically handling the rush during peak hours--but they're hitting their stride. This past weekend, we grabbed a spot outside with a group of friends and four pups. The manager and staff were so welcoming to the dogs and even moved two tables together to accommodate our big group. The soup dumplings were some of the largest and juiciest dumplings I've ever had. The green beans and scallion pancake with beef were also delicious but don't stand out from other places. The broth was delicious and was exactly what we had been craving, but the noodles were a little off; they were very flour-y yet al dente at the same time, giving us a mixed feeling. Walking into Nan Xiang is a callback to busy soup dumpling places from Hong Kong. Despite being located in the Stamford Mall adjacent, Nan Xiang is testament to the Michelin recommendation. The scallion pancakes are light and perfectly cooked. The crispy chili chicken is reminiscent of chicken with chili dishes from Beijing without quite as much chili. The hot and sour soup is absolutely incredible for $5.95 and plenty for four people as an appetizer. Seven was an excellent server being both friendly and genuine. The food came quickly. I was impressed by the numbers of service support staff and the efficiency. Not only will I be going back but am already effusively promoting Nan Xiang to whomever will listen. I'll be honest. It's hard to be objective when a restaurant offers colorful soup dumplings. They look so cool. We ordered the Lucky 6 Dumplings from the Stamford location of this famous spot from Flushing. One green. One red. One yellow. One charcoal. And two others are the natural tan sort of color you expect. We also ordered Pan Fried Udon with chicken, Pork and Truffle Dumplings and Pan Fried Pork Buns. The dumplings were good, except for the Pork and Truffle dumplings which were very good. All of the dumplings were a bit heavier than some of the dumplings I've had. Notwithstanding the shock and awe of the colorful dumplings, I think they were more or less on par with most places where I've had dumplings, except for the subtle truffle flavor of the Pork and Truffle one, which was delicious. A surprise nice order from my son (he probably thought it was a chocolate truffle. LOL) The udon was nice and chewy, The chicken was cut into strands as well. It could have had a bit more presence. We made reservations for a Friday evening and were immediately greeted and promptly seated upon arrival. The place was pretty full and all of the dishes on the tables we passed by looked wonderful. There is also a view into the kitchen to watch staff expertly make the soup dumplings non stop. We ordered the Lucky Six soup dumplings, a sample of their soup dumpling offerings, and also an order of the traditional pork filled soup dumplings. We also ordered the scallion pancake with beef, and pork and veggie wonton with spicy peanut sauce. The waiter showed us how to mix the vinegar and soy sauce in the small dish with ginger to use for our dumplings (chili oil too available for those who want it), instructing us to bite a bit off the top and then spoon in the mixture and eat! All of the dumplings tasted fantastic, with my favorite being the crab and pork. We are partial to a soup dumpling place in NYC we frequent and these were just as good, if not better. The wontons in spicy peanut sauce were also delectable with great textures and flavors. They were not overwhelmingly spicy. The scallion pancake with beef was crispy, but the beef was tender, with an almost sweet tasting sauce. It definitely rivaled our favorite scallion pancake in Cinatown, NY. Our waiter was attentive and didn't miss a beat, and all other staff were friendly and enthusiastic. The place is well lit and kept clean, including the restrooms. This was my second time at Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings in Stamford, and I had to bring my boyfriend so he could finally try the place I've been raving about. The soup dumplings are seriously that good, super brothy, and full of flavor. The vibe there is really lively and trendy, and this time the bar was open. The place was packed, so instead of waiting for a table, we just grabbed seats at the bar, which ended up being perfect. Michael and Bruce were behind the bar, and they were awesome, super friendly, welcoming, and on top of everything. They honestly made the night even better. We split an order of the chicken soup dumplings (still just as amazing as I remembered) and the Shanghai sweet and sour spareribs, which were solid. For mains, we each got a soup. I went with the beef and shredded pepper noodle soup, expecting more spice. The beef was kind of like what you'd get in a beef and broccoli dish, which wasn't really my thing, so I didn't finish it. To mix it up, I also got the passion fruit and lime green tea, which was super refreshing. They use actual slices of fresh fruit, and it makes a huge difference. Even though I wasn't crazy about the beef in my soup, I'll definitely be back. There's always something new to try, and those soup dumplings are hands-down the best around. I wanted to order a variety of dumplings, but they do not allow mixed orders, so I ended up getting only the pork dumplings. It was my first time ever having dumplings, let alone soup dumplings, so the flavor was a unique experience. Overall, they were pretty good. I was not a fan of their soy sauce, but the dumplings themselves were solid. Six dumplings for $13 seems like a fair price. Welcome to Stamford, Connecticut, Nan Xiang! This is a much-needed addition to really boost the struggling Asian eatery options in the local area. Peter Chang coming to Stamford was a big deal, but they weren't as regionally known here as they were in the DMV area. On the other hand, many locals may already be familiar with Nan Xiang since their humble beginnings as a small shop in Flushing, NY. They've done a great job updating the inside - it's much brighter and more welcoming than when it was Kona Grill. The first thing I noticed however was the tight entrance. There's not much of a waiting area, and it can get pretty crowded with people waiting for tables, picking up orders, and Uber Eats drivers all sharing the same small space. Our visit on a busy Sunday afternoon confirmed that things move pretty fast here; you'll see servers and food runners constantly running in and out, bringing out dishes as soon as they're ready. Don't expect long conversations with your server or be surprised if your "entrees" come out before your drinks or appetizers. In other words, come here for the food and not the service. While the smoothness of service may improve over time once they've gotten everything together, I wouldn't expect this to become the Capital Grille of Asian restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed their classic appetizers: the chicken in wine sauce and beef tripe in spicy sauce were both perfectly executed. Despite our reservations, others encouraged us to try the house special fried rice, which unfortunately turned out to be bland and the weakest dish of our meal. The braised beef noodle soup was decent. While the noodles had a perfect texture, the beef pieces lacked tenderness, and the broth, though flavorful, missed the complexity and deep "beefy flavors" typically achieved through hours of stewing. However, this is understandable as it's not their specialty. The undisputed highlight, of course, was their signature pork soup dumplings. These were outstanding, boasting flavorful fillings and a delicate, resilient skin. While the meat filling could perhaps be marginally improved, these are likely some of the best you'll find in Connecticut. With its expansive menu and reasonable prices, you're sure to find something that appeals to you. I highly recommend their signature dim sum and appetizers, and even encourage you to explore their classic breakfast options, despite their current limited selection. I'm personally desperate for a dedicated Asian breakfast spot in Connecticut! Currently, their full bar and outdoor seating area remain unused, and I'm interested to see how they plan to effectively utilize those spaces moving forward. While I don't anticipate it becoming the lively drink destination like it was during the Kona Grill days, the availability of alcoholic beverages alongside the meal would undoubtedly elevate the overall experience. With so many restaurants coming and going in this location - like Kona Grill, California Pizza Kitchen, Plan B, Pieology, PF Chang's, The Cheesecake Factory, and now unfortunately Peter Chang - I truly hope Nan Xiang breaks the cycle and is here to stay! read more

Happy to see soup dumplings in Stamford. However i'll only order soup dumplings if i come here again, just because it's closer than going to flushing or nyc. Soup dumplings is authentic of course but not the best. Crab soup dumplings has little crab, not that of strong flavor. Pan fried pork bun 生煎包 is more like taking out from pre-made package pork bun, steam it and just pan fried the bottom. Not authentic, taste like instant food. The bun is made by machine because the way it folds, disappointed at this dish. The Shanghai stir fried noodles, noodles itself is overcooked (boiled too long) before stir fried. The sauce a but sticky, usually restaurant just stir fried with soy sauce which is already good enough. I personally don't like the stickyness and over cooked noodles. Mild flavor not salty which is good. Soybean drink lack of soybean taste and it's thick in a weird way. Didn't finish it. Overall, comfortable nice seating, hope the quality will improve because the one in flushing had very bad services and dropping food quality after renovations. I had been going there for a decade. I had high hope in this one. I haven't been to mall for a long time because i thought the mall is kinda dead. Parking is easy, i just didn't know the parking meter don't give change (until after i paid i saw the sticker) i was rushing, put in $5 for 2 hours and realized they wont give back change anymore. Really glad we stopped by. Wife and I were wanting a good noodle soup. Upon looking at the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many options they had, despite being known for their soup dumplings. If you're new to the area, parking can be tricky. I would use the shopping plaza garage. That's your easiest route. On street is possible, but unlikely due to the small amount of spaces available. Inside was nice, clean, and welcoming. We were seated immediately, and within less than a minute, someone came by to ask us for our drink order. We tried two of their teas (comes out like a boba tea minus the boba). Our food order was then taken, and then it felt like almost immediately was brought out. Extremely fast and efficient. The waitress even marked down each time we had an item placed on the table to track what was left. We both tried the beef noodle soup. The broth was very good! Meat was tender, and it was massive! My only drawback was the noodles. They were tasty and perfectly done - just wish they were a rice noodle instead of the more wheat style. We ordered a huge amount of different dishes: soup dumplings, noodles, fried rice, apps, baos, ribs, shrimp, scallion pancake. I'm a huge fan of din tai fung and this place was supposed to be similar but did not compare. The flavors were off, textures were off, and just did not meet overall expectations. The ambiance was great, lots of seating, and general interior design is nice. Service was lacking. We got seated and greeted, took our orders and ever saw the server again really until it was time for the bill. We did try to flag her down a few times to request items but not everything was brought to us that was requested. We ended up not receiving one of the orders we made and decided to just cancel it.
