Maaaan the matcha drinks were not really it. We ordered several drinks and none stood out at all. The mochi is just microwaved and the milk is just dispensed from a coffee machine (i.e, instead of being heated and frothed with the steam wand) - for the price, I expected something more professional. Seems to be more of a food or dessert spot. read more

I've been to other Nana's Green Tea locations but this was my first time at this one! I loved how spacious the interior was - there were plenty of long tables. We stopped here a few minutes after they had opened on a Monday morning, and we were the only ones there. There were kiosk for you to place your orders on, and I like that each item had a corresponding photo so you could see what the drink or dessert would look like. It looked like there was one person making all of our drinks, but I felt like everything came out in a very reasonable time. I ordered one of the seasonal strawberry matcha beverages, and it was really good! Everyone at our table ordered something different, so we were able to try a few things off the menu. The parfait was also sweet and refreshing! Everything tasted fresh and really delicious! Exactly like how I would expect things to taste, based on my prior Nana's experiences. read more

NANA's Green tea is my favorite Japanese dessert shop. They offer Nomsmag food festival special item, so I visited to try Purple sweet potato latte with matcha pudding. When I had the first sip, Purple sweet potato flavor came through strongly, and enjoyed having the sweet puree at the bottom. It was very delicious. It took only within 5 minutes to finish it. For Matcha pudding, I opened the lid and had them with puree. Matcha pudding wasn't too sweet, so, it blended with puree very well. They also offer soft serve and dorayaki from the Nomsmag food fes. Nana you have my heart. This is hands down the best matcha I've ever tasted: thick, creamy, and not too sweet. So, so good. So many matcha spots I've tried tend to taste watered down, but Nana's was the opposite. You can tell right away that this is high-quality matcha. What sets this place apart is that there's no option for added flavors or sugar there is just one standard, perfect recipe. Both times I've been to Nana's, I ordered conveniently through their self-order machine, and my matcha was ready within a few minutes (shoutout to the quick employees!). It seems their Yelp page still largely has images of their old spot. The new neighborhood seems a lot quieter in comparison. Walking here from the Olympic Village station was roughly 15 minutes, as the path goes through some busy intersections. As we walked in, I remember hearing a song from Ikimono Gakari as well as of J-pop rock tunes. The interior is decorated beautifully with wooden furniture and comfortable lighting. Through their kiosk, I ordered a hot Matcha Latte and a warabi mochi, while my friend ordered a matcha soft serve. As touted, the matcha flavors were deep and rich even with milk, which neutralized in any excess bitterness. The mochi was light though didn't add much as a standalone snack. We took shelter from the rain here and were immediately impressed by the amazing ambiance and ample, comfortable seating. It's a neatly positioned cafe perfect for relaxing and chatting. They moved out of Kerrisdale into a new space in Mount Pleasant recently. The new cafe probably has about the same amount of seats, but with a smaller number of large communal tables, so it feels a less intimate, but there are some very nice design touches on the windows here that I really like. I still have a positive impression of the food, same as my previous review. The unagi chazuke remains the superior savoury option, at least among the seafood choices. The ceremonial-style matcha (called "matcha espresso" to draw parallel with coffee preparation - it doesn't actually contain espresso) is prepared well here. I tried the vanilla soft serve in the seasonal sakura & strawberry latte, which was my first try of the ice cream. It was average vanilla soft serve, and of course wonderful in the float, but I wouldn't be compelled to order just the vanilla on its own or even in a parfait, but if matcha were added that might change things. Anyway, the sakura latte that the ice cream was served in had a very pronounced floral flavour that I really enjoyed; very unique. Since moving to Mount Pleasant, they have introduced kiosk ordering, which I'm not usually a big fan of, but the kiosks here are at least organized and easy to use. The staff was polite when I picked up my order, so you still get a bit of nice service. No line, but I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order to be ready since they're still popular and there were a lot of people who ordered ahead of me. read more

I'm never going back to this vendor after being here so many times in the past. Nanas is part of the dine out Vancouver 2024 vendors. Upon seeing their dine out menu, a couple of us decided to go try. I haven't been here in a couple of years but it looks like the owner has changed and the way the business operates has also changed. At the counter, we were displeased to find out that the menu they offered in store was different from the dine out menu. Dine out menu had more menu choices and did not specify that the parfait would be a mini one. We felt deceived but couldn't change location now as it was a group gathering. When they brought the food, they brought matcha latte instead of hojicha which was the one we ordered with the staff. She insisted that we ordered matcha and couldn't change. Then the manager(?) Came and said the staff said she had repeated the order twice and we had agreed to it... What a lie! The main entrees didn't taste good either and was so expensive considering what we were getting. I could have gotten a bowl of ramen elsewhere for the same price with bigger quantity and quality. The matcha soft serve and the matcha pudding in the parfait were also off. Legit Japanese matcha food items have strong matcha taste. I could barely taste the matcha. My friend's shiratama mini parfait didn't even come with shiratama. It only had the red beans on top. Like seriously... Nanas is an actual Japanese matcha chain which I have frequented while living in Japan. The quality is no longer the same as before and definitely not how a legit Japanese chain should be like in terms of food and customer service. I'm never coming back to this place. read more

Nana's Green Tea recently moved to the Mt. Pleasant area, which is much more convenient for me. This new location has plenty of seating, but is still very popular so they often have lines. This authentic matcha dessert chain from Japan is one of my favourite places to get drinks, ice cream, and dessert. Their hojicha tart is fantastic, and not overly sweet. I also love getting their matcha soft serve, with mochi on the side. They now also carry small containers of ice cream, which you can purchase to take home! read more

I'd been curious about the food at Nana's Green Tea for quite awhile so I was quite excited to see that it was one of the restaurants participating in Dine Out Vancouver this year. As soon as the snow let up, I went out with a friend to Nana's Green Tea for lunch. Their Dine Out Vancouver menu was $28 and offered the choice of a hot or cold drink, main course and dessert. We ordered the following: Azuki Latte (cold) Hojicha Latte (hot) Ikura and Salmon Chazuke Matcha Warabimochi Parfait Matcha Nama Choco Parfait I wasn't too crazy about the cold Azuki Latte but everything else was delicious. We both ordered the same dish for our main course. I had half expected to see raw salmon in my bowl but was elated to look into my bowl and see pieces of cooked salmon instead. This is a place I could bring our daughter to as she doesn't eat raw fish. The salmon was very moist and tender, and the texture of the Ikura really complemented the dish. I think it would have been nice if the server had taken time to explain how to eat our food. Our main course came with a teapot containing broth to pour over the Ikura and Salmon Chazuke. My friend and I both knew either from a combination of Google research or from past experience that the broth needed to be poured over the food. However, I can easily imagine other people sitting down to this meal, and not realizing that there was a broth in the teapot that needed to be pour over their food. Both desserts consisted of matcha soft serve twisted with a vanilla soft serve, and accompanied with various toppings. Pairing the matcha soft serve with vanilla is a brilliant idea as the matcha soft serve is on the bitter side. Our daughter would love this matcha ice cream as she has a liking for bitter matcha ice cream. I'll be back here sometime for sure so that I can treat our daughter to the matcha ice cream! Just had their matcha soft serve and it was great! The matcha flavour was very good and the ice cream was a nice consistency for soft serve. I wish it was a little creamier but that's just my preference. The cone is crispy, and it had good flavour! Service was really good and there's ample seating in the back. I was surprised that this dessert chain had a location in Vancouver so we decided to check it out. We ordered the matcha azuki swiss cream roll to share and I got the black sesame shiratama frappe. The matcha azuki cream roll was light and fluffy and full of matcha flavor. Thumbs up! The shiratama drink came with a scoop of black sesame ice cream and 3 small mochi balls in a matcha frappe. We've only been in the one time, but we ordered the beef curry a la carte, coffee float, and one of the matcha parfaits. Coffee float was nice! Ice cream (froyo?) swirled in, but it was partially frozen in coffee ice ahead of time, so it didn't melt as fast. Nicely done; not too sweet. Parfait definitely made me remember the ones I had in Kyoto. Layers of ice cream, cereal flakes, matcha jelly, red bean, whipped cream, green tea ice cream, and two small mochis. Very well-made, and very IG-able. All the flavors melding together were very good, and I love that you'd be able to choose your combo of flavors on the next spoonful. The only "meh" of the visit was the beef curry a la carte. Rice was hot, curry was hot. Our go to spot in Japan now has location in Vancouver. The matcha frappes ($7.6 CAD) & matcha roll cakes $8.95 CAD) were great. Matcha ice cream in the frappe was smooth & has that distinct matcha bitterness but not overwhelming. Matcha azuki (red bean) roll cake was pillowy & creamy. Ambiance was hip & contemporary. I love matcha and hojicha so I had to give this place a try. I got a matcha latte and iced hojicha latte to go. The prices are on the high side and the ice latte was about 1/3 ice. For a 12oz drink that's $8 for very few sips. The flavor was tea forward and not too sweet so the quality is good but still not worth the price. They have ice cream parfaits that look beautiful but their prices seem out of touch. I likely won't return. read more

Interesting green tea themed restaurant and dessert place. The focus seems to be on the desserts, with their soft serve being heavily featured, but the soft serve doesn't seem particularly good here. It's not bad and the green tea flavour is interesting but I didn't finish mine when we got soft serve and I probably wouldn't take one if someone gave it to me for free, but the savoury options, like the chicken soboro donburi here are actually pretty good. Pre-pandemic, I would've said that the portions are small for the price, but with how many places have shrunk their portions or increased their prices, the portions don't seem so bad here, relatively speaking. read more

I went to their new location at 159th West 4th Avenue which is more convenient than their previous location as it is 10 minute's walk from the Skytrain. It was a late snack for us and the Hochika latte and their new purple sweet potato latte were the perfect treat, the purple potato is sweet for my taste but it is still tasty for those who prefer sweet drinks. We also had the yuzu cheesecake and the matcha nama choco parfait, I do recommend the yuzu cheesecake if you are buying more than one dessert for its zesty sour taste which is different from the grassy and a little bitter green tea flavour which most of the cakes, ice cream and drinks tastes are. I enjoyed the Matcha Nama Choco Parfait's taste, It is fun to scoop every layer starting from the green tea ice cream and the red bean paste then the crunchy cornflakes which are delicious to combined with the soft served vanilla ice cream and lastly a mixed of matcha pudding at the end. Overall, Nana's Cafe is highly recommended for those who like matcha desserts. read more

Nana's Green Tea has been a favourite of mine for a long time. The matcha and hojicha flavours in their desserts are strong, but balanced - and maybe most importantly, they're also not too sweet! I've tried all of their parfaits and recommend any of them, although I seem to always go back to the good old classic matcha shiratama parfait. As for the lattes, I love the hojicha-based ones. The matcha ones are also great, I find that that Nana's hojicha is just a bit more special. Dine-in seating here is a bit small, with a limited number of tables in the back. I'll also mention that what I really didn't enjoy on my most recent trip here was that the spoons were not clean. They gave me new ones, but those were also covered in sticky grime. I hope this was a one-off, but it was enough for me to feel icked out about coming back. read more

Their parfaits have not changed at all since they opened and still taste great but due to price increases it is not as great of a value as it once was. I would still recommend any of the Shiratama parfaits. Service was quick and the employees were friendly. The matcha ice cream and the hojicha lattes are still excellent but only for takeout. First of all you can only order their pre fixed food offerings and can't customize your order of products beyond std offerings on their dirty shared screen touch terminals, which is a terrible experience, nor can you order and pay with human assistance. They force customers to only order and transact by filthy shared touch screen terminals and screens in the front of the business without any human bep or option to order with. Such a dirty experience and a great way to get plenty of germs before you eat. The design of this location is lackluster and the place is just drab and not visually appealing. There's little to no Japanese culture or hospitality feeling and the staff they hire do not seem Japanese nor very capable of quality customer service. They seem to be taking every short cut to make the most money from customers without considering the experience customers need. Prices are too high and portion sizes seem ratger stingy. I dont see what justifies the high prices. Countless places to get quality Asian themed desserts in Vancouver with far superior service and in many cases better tasting products. I won't be surprised is the go out of business like the location on 41st as it isn't worth the visit. read more

You bring up your used dishes and utensils to their counter when done, but there's only 2 workers so sometimes tables don't get wiped down or attended to between customers. read more

Nana's has a special matcha-y place in my heart. This is my go-to when in an ice cream craving, they are the real deal - as in, there is so much matcha goodness in a single soft serve it is guaranteed to keep me buzzed all night long - this is also comparative to places that serve matcha goods, but there is an obviously high milk powder / sugary residual component added. This is my first time trying their cakes from the bake case, I opted for two yuzu cheesecakes slices. I like that the cheesecake density tasted about 90% of your typical American cheesecake. Complemented with the fresh aromatics of yuzu (Japanese citrus) each bite is refreshing yet decadent. Also enjoyed the sparse slivers of thicker yuzu pieces mixed in - tasted like a mini burst of summer if and when you get the lucky piece. The cheesecakes were good, it's a 4 star from me, but the soft serves are a hands down 5 star. read more

Cute shop interior, about 2-3 tables available for dine in. I tried the Hojicha Shiratama Float. The hojicha ice cream portion was pretty good, with a strong and roasted flavour. Not too sweet, which was also a bonus, as it doesn't overpower the hojicha flavour. The rest of the drink was quite disappointing, and tasted like ice/water. I think the hojicha & icecream to ice ratio was horrible. There were also a few soft/chewy pieces of shiratama (tasted like mochi). Nice texture, but they were flavourless and bland.
