tsujiri at metrotown metropolis found us

another visit to metrotown metropolis during the chaotic holiday rush had us parched after braving the crowds. this little spot near superstore and next to the little tea house looked like the perfect place to recharge, but it didn't quite hit the mark. not gonna lie, the drinks here look appealing, and the choices are many. black sesame, yuzu, hojicha, floats and parfaits, oh my! their most popular item on the menu is the o-matcha latte, a hand crafted matcha espresso blended with steamed milk for $8 (my partner chose this one, and he was not a fan). i decided to try the matcha frappe, which is a mix of matcha slush and yogurt, topped with whipped cream and matcha sauce for $8.50. the first few sips were delicious, refreshing, with the perfect balance of sweetness and matcha flavour. but then, it all went downhill. after those first few sips, i was left with mostly slushed ice. i tried to let it melt, but by the time i could get to it, the paper straw had completely disintegrated. i had high hopes for this place. the drinks are beautifully presented, and the matcha quality is evident, but the overall experience doesn't quite justify the price. for $8 or more, the cups are too small, packed with ice, and the paper straws don't hold up long enough to finish the drink.

Kuromitsu matcha latte. Still my favorite.

Whenever I want a matcha drink, Tsujiri is my go to place. The drinks are made with matcha powder and have a stronger taste of green tea. My favorite drink is the kuromitsu kinako matcha latte. I like the sweet roasted soybean matcha flavor in the drink. Plus I don't think you can get that at other places. The soft serve is equally nice though I get the drink more than the dessert stuff. This is a small shop which is just for take out. I don't see any tables and chairs for dining in. They also sells dacquoise and cheesecake. Located across from St Germaine bakery near Superstore.

We'd just gotten back from a trip to Japan, and were missing our Hojicha ice cream so I stopped by Tsujiri in Metrotown and bought a Hojicha float for my daughter and I to share. There was barely any liquid in the float. It was really more of a soft serve ice cream than a float. This hit the spot though as the Hojicha ice cream is really what we were after. For some reason, the menu at Tsujiri doesn't offer an option of having Hojicha ice cream on its own. Only in a float. I have noticed an older review for this place though, where someone managed to get Hojicha soft serve in a cone. I wonder if it's something I simply need to inquire about at the store. Didn't quite match up to the Hojicha ice creams that we'd had in Japan but for a nearby option that was a short drive away, and not a plane ride away...I was happy with this! This place is take out only as there is no place to sit. Ordered the houjicha float during the very hot summer day. Totally made my day. Houjicha taste is pretty strong with good level of sweetness. It also has some crumbs that make the texture even better. Will come back to try the yuzu flavoured drinks.

Typically never disappointed by 1) ice cream and 2) matcha-y ice cream, this tsujiri experience broke barriers. As someone who rarely visits metrotown I was so excited to see this small Tsujiri take out stall while leaving superstore. Since tsujiri opened their OG Richmond location, I've declared myself a die hard yuzu-match float fanatic. I really should've stuck with my gut here but decided to be adventurous as the hojicha soft serve looks drool worth on the menu. For close to $8 a soft serve, the flavour (aka the hojicha oomph) did not hit the spot at all. The tea aromas were mellow to the point that the soft serve just tasted milky bland with a nice butter dry texture, and left a oily residue in the mouth. All that and the size of cone was equivalent to the size of the Dolar Shop charcoal cone. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Tsujiri has a long history. One of the many shops that I have tried and would recommend. It is located inside the Metrotown shopping center, in front of the Canadian superstore. If you want to get mostly soft server, order the plain soft serve in a cone rather than any other menu items.

Tried the kinako matcha latte and it was delicious! It was a bit on the pricy side though but the quality made up for it

Tsujiri is located on the ground level of Metro across RCSS. A nice and cozy little space with super friendly and attentive staff. The menu isn't expansive because it's a matcha cafe that specializes in matcha (duh!) with drinks + soft serve as the main attraction. Ordered the yuzu matcha and o-matcha latte. Don't drink matcha often but really enjoyed it! Only gripe is that it's quite pricey for a small cup! Will definitely be back for ice cream in the summer though. BTW, Tsujiri is a pretty popular chain in Japan. It's obviously much affordable there but you always have to factor in plane tickets. =P

Fast and friendly service. It's a small little pop up shop, so you won't find any of the baked goods like you would in the regular stores, but they still serve an array of beverages, along with parfaits and shaved ice. The quality and taste of your order is consistent with their regular store. No seating available, so you get whatever you order to go, or find a nearby bench to sit down on.

I passed by Tsujiri when I was in Osaka couple times. I know in Calgary they are located there as well. I wanted to try Tsujiri. Right now there are 2 locations in BC. One is at Metrotown and the other is in Richmond. Only difference is that the one in Richmond is a sit down restaurant. The options are very different and of course the prices are double the Metrotown location. I came here with B after running some errands. I got the Matcha Macaroon Parfait and B go the Asuki Matcha Latte (hot). Portion size looked small for the price that they are charging. But it is in fact that they use quality ingredients. I can taste the matcha in my parfait. B's drink was not bad. It was bitter at first and then you can taste the strong matcha taste afterward. My parfait had 1 macaroon, 2 mochi squares, corn flake in the middle, red beans at the bottom and Yes of course..... Matcha ice cream on top. The two items came to $17.33. It is definitely pricy for the amount we are getting.

We've been to the Richmond location a few times and this is our second time here at their small shop in Metrotown mall. There is no space for seating but you are able to order for takeaway. Last time we got their black sesame latte and this time we got their hojicha latte and both were delicious. It is a little hot when they first make it so you do have to let it cool down for a bit first. I can't wait for summer to have their parfaits again!

Matcha lovers dream! I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. You Can literally smell the delicious tea standing infront of the shop. We tried the matcha panna cotta and then shaved ice with matcha soft serve. Their matcha soft serve isn't super sweet which makes it feel like a nice light dessert. Combined with the shaved ice makes it feel even lighter. I really enjoyed it. It tasted better and better with every bite. The panna cotta was quite nice as well super creamy. I definitely want to try the hojicha soft serve next time.

I waited almost 2 months for this! This is a pop up store but I believe they are staying for at least 6 months. There are only drinks and parfaits at this location. It took over the old Sweet Jesus spot across Superstore. At today's opening, the line wasn't bad at all and it moves quite fast. I love their matcha ice cream. I personally find that Tsujiri has a stronger and deeper matcha flavor than Nana Green Tea. There are no seating area. They do take credit card and the staff are super friendly. Worth a try.

The shiratama parfait was divine. We got the matcha and hojicha swirl and the tea flavors were strong just like I like. We enjoyed it a lot!

Plenty of seats for small groups and big groups. High ceilings make the location feel spacious. And it was busy with a lot of people. I think if I'm going to hang out with people, coffee loft would be a great spot. However, I don't think the coffee and pastries are particularly good. But of course, I'm a bit biased since these are the things I look for in coffee shops: the coffee. It's not bad. It's just okay. So in short, I think if you're looking for a place to hang, Coffee Loft is great! If you're looking for coffee or pastries, there are other places. Still worth visiting though!

It is also a fantastic spot to work if you wanna have a café setting because their pastries and bake goods are absolutely fantastic. In fact last year for Christmas, we bought one of their Christmas cake options which proved to be super popular with the family. What I love about this location is the decor. On one side it is a simple industrial warehouse. But it has that post modern feel with all of the live plants. The live plants is what I love and the tall ceiling for the plants to fully grow. Though if they are looking for something else, which could really bring this to the top, it would be to have a fish tank. A fish and or water feature around the massive plant island in the middle of the dinning area would be chefs kiss. Of course, what about the food? From here, I find the food here is excellent. Sometimes the flavour combinations are a little weird. But that's typical for the Vancouver foodie scene. Vancouver food scene is a fusion hybrid of local ingredients mixed with traditions from cultures from other places around the world. But the bottom line is the portions are a good size. The platters in particular are large and would feed a very hungry person. You definitely get your moneys worth. You don't get much table service once you are done with your order. But that is all right because of it size and volume for the amount of people who come through. I am totally happy with the self serve station, which could be enhanced and the large setting with all of the very mature plants. If I would offer advice to anyone it would be this. If you are going to be there on the weekend arrive before 9 AM. People start lining up at 10 to 15 minutes before the store officially opens.
