Walking around midtown today after lunch and decided to grab some cupcakes to-go. Picked up a chocolate buttercream, German chocolate and a strawberry cupcake. We've tried the pistachio cupcake before as well, delicious! The strawberry was my favorite out of the 3 we purchased today, perfectly sweet and moist, could've used just a little more frosting. The chocolate buttercream was our least favorite out of these, kinda dry and not enough chocolate flavor, may go great w a coffee though. The German chocolate cupcake was good, still a tiny bit dry, but the flavors were great! I do look forward to our next visit and to see what other flavors are available! The owner was handing out cookie samples, salted caramel I believe, pretty tasty, the caramel was a little to large for the size of the cookie, but the taste was great! The people working here are super friendly and sweet :) Always welcome you w a smile and genuinely want you to enjoy their treats and shop. The shop is cute and has a little area to sit out front to enjoy your treat and there are lots of cute things to browse while in line; little candies, honey sticks, baking cookware, candles and more. While it was unfortunate their other plans fell through, I personally thought Nana's came through in a big way. Yeah it was pricey. My brother complained. Lol. A 6" round was $29.99. Stacked on top of an 8" round that was $39.99. It was probably the most plainly decorated cake I have seen in a long time, but the cake itself was absolutely divine. Not bad for one-day notice. Of important note, my brother called the Ruidoso Albertson's before finding this place in his search engine. Albertson's told him that they couldn't do it. Not enough notice. Just ok cupcakes i would have to say. They are big ones so 5$ is about right for them but not that good. I tried their triple chocolate which was dry and not very chocolate flavored except for the ganache in the middle. The icing was hard as if they were old. The red velvet was slightly better but not by much. The cake was more moist but had an off taste. Icing was also hard which is very disappointing. The two ladies who were working that day both said that if i nuked them for 10 seconds each, they were to die for. Not so sure it would be but ok. I really liked their lil shop at least. Lots of neat trinkets and cooking/baking products. I think that helped justify the place for an overall 3 star rating. They also have ice cream which is more than likely what i will try next time. read more

Nana's cupcakes are the best in Ruidoso, hands down, and they are consistently delicious! We try get these cupcakes every time we are in town because they are our favorite. I would recommend going earlier in the day, as she can sometimes sell out of popular flavors. We like the peanut butter, German chocolate, and fresh strawberry cupcakes. *Don't listen to the 1 star reviews!* this shop changed ownership in 2020. The current owners are very sweet people. Now on to the cupcakes. We got a German chocolate (my husband's favorite) and a Bananas foster. We shared the German chocolate first and it was large enough to be satisfying. The cake was most and flavorful, the frosting was classic for the cake and delicious. I snuck a bite of the banana foster and it's SO good. This will definitely be a regular stop for us while in Ruidoso. read more

Under new management, the women now running this bakery/shop is extremely kind. With gratitude towards every customer i saw walk into the shop i had to write the review. Me not being from around the city found her customer etiquette worthy of a great review. My family and i enjoyed her care that we decided to stay a bit and sit at the tables in the bakery. Although items were a bit high priced the customer service beat the food and prices. Shes worth keeping around the city, so no mind to the prices, a good support should be rewarded. read more

The place gets 5 stars on their personality alone. The owners were SO sweet, and dealt with our complicated coffee orders, lol. I got an iced caramel macchiato with an extra espresso shot, it was better than Starbucks! Also tried a peanut butter cookie, it was great. I visited Nana's on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Two cupcakes cost me $10.32. pricey. The icing was hard and crumbly almost dry. The cake was dense and very dry. Honestly, I only like the icing so I usually toss the cake, but the icing was not good. I was very disappointed, but agree with prior reviews about the dryness of the cake. The lady did suggest I pop them in the microwave for 10 seconds. I found that strange since a freshly baked cupcake wouldn't need to be microwaved under any circumstances. read more

My fiance' and I used Papa Bear's for our wedding cupcakes. We live 3 hours from Ruidoso but were getting married there and wanted to see how Papa Bear's cupcakes compared to others we had tried. Connie, the store owner, went out of her way to make sure we would have the flavors we wanted, even going so far as to overnight us 8 different cupcakes so that we knew what they would taste like. She spent several phone conversations taking custom decoration requests from us just to ensure things were exactly as we wanted. All told, we ordered 10 different flavors. The day of the wedding, she drove 30 minutes (each way) and set up the cupcake display (3 full tables' worth) for our reception. Our guests were WILD about them, probably the best part of the wedding. All of the flavors were unique and incredible. We highly, highly recommend Papa Bear's!! read more

Ordered a red velvet and it definitely looked a red velvet, but when I tasted it...it was not it at all!!! It just tasted like a vanilla cupcake with tons of red dye with cream cheese frosting on top with chocolate shavings sprinkled. There wasn't that distinct red velvet cupcake taste at all....thus the sum of all the ingredients was basically sour...mainly because of the over-powering taste of the frosting. If to compare to all red velvets out there...this was the worst...or not even comparable. it was just a regular cupcake. I haven't tried the rest of the their cupcakes....so they have a chance of redeeming this review. till next time...... read more

My family and I stopped in at this cupcake place at the end of our trip before heading home. We were excited to try a cupcake. I ordered 5 at $4.75 each. The woman asked if I wanted to put them in a big box. I told her yes, not thinking about the trip back and trying to all eat out of one box. I politely asked if they had single boxes. She said yes, then asked if I wanted to switch to those. I said yes. This caused a conniption, she threw my forks on the counter, went and got the single boxes, and placed them into the single boxes with an attitude from hell. In order to keep my cool I walked towards the front of the store while my husband paid. She had an attitude with him as well and then told her coworker "SHE CHANGED HER MIND AND WANTED THEM IN SINGLE BOXES." (Had I known this I would have walked out without cupcakes) I didn't know switching boxes was going to be such a life altering event for this woman. If I knew these boxes were made of gold I would have never fixed my mouth to ask for a different one. Now let's get to the product. The cupcakes are like sponges. We ate them and instantly had to pull over to get drinks bc our bodies became dehydrated. So do yourself a favor and have a drink on standby. Def not worth dealing with the crappy customer service and attitude of the employee. read more

These cupcakes are really hard to eat. Got my daughter a vanilla cupcake and she tasted it and didn't want to eat it. I thought she was sick, that my cupcake loving daughter didn't want to eat a delicious looking cupcake. Decided to take a bite out of it and the cake portion of it was dense, dry and flavorless. It literally just sucked all the moisture out of my mouth. It tasted like pure flour, they must have forgotten to include any sugar in this cake. We tried the red velvet cupcake and the vanilla bean cupcake. Like Mandy P had stated, there was the 'unhappy lady' milling about in the kitchen getting ready to frost cupcakes. The selection was limited, about 4-5 cupcake varieties. $4 for each cupcake, thought worth it for size and not for flavor. Here's the breakdown. Red Velvet: the cake portion was good, however the cream cheese frosting had hints of cream cheese flavor, other than that, the flavor was just off. The chocolate shavings on it made it taste too rich for my blood (I'm not a chocolate fan). Red sugar sprinkles would have sufficed. Vanilla bean: The cake portion tasted stale or had way too much flour cooked in, very dry. The frosting was light, airy with the perfect amount of sweet. It was butter cream. I hope the next time I visit, I could give it a higher rating. This seems to be the only cupcake shop in town. My suggestion: Keep doing what you are doing, only BETTER! read more

I was visiting town with my family for Christmas. I bought six Christmas tree cupcakes for my family at five bucks a pop as a fun surprise. We got back to the cabin and they were all hard as a rock and inedible. We threw them away. They must have been sitting in the display case for days and days and days...
