I always enjoy my time at the salon. My stylist works well with me and what I would like done to my hair, even when I keep changing up the color I want every time I have an appointment. I'm always pleased with the final product (cut & color). My stylist, and the staff, are always friendly, patient, and professional. Sometimes when I go I have 1 or both children in tow, and get so envoys bringing them. But the staff are all very understanding and find ways to preoccupy them so that I can get my hair done in peace, and really haven't minded the energy my children have. It's nice that they offer beverages and snacks while you are getting your hair done, as we know it can take a couple of hours to get our hair done depending on the type of services. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5, is that some of the parking lot now has a no parking zone leaving limited space. But, I know that is out of the salon's control. read more

I just visited the salon for the full highlights deal on groupon, and I couldn't wait to come back home to write this review! First to note, I was 7 minutes late, and I thought they would give me a hard time since I was a groupon customer. But I was greeted very nicely, and I did not have to wait more than 2 minutes to get seated for the appointment. Samantha was my hairdresser for the day, even though her name wasn't mentioned in Groupon Fine Print. She was very professional and worked on my hair with a lot of patience. She understood what I wanted done, based on the pictures I showed her, and just worked her magic! It took about 3 hours for my whole appointment, which was nice. Nothing was rushed. All the employees within the store are friendly and kept offering me drinks. At the end, my hair came out really nice, and it feels great also!!! Me and my 7 year old daughter had the worst experience there. This was my daughter's 1st manicure and it was supposed to be a great experience. Instead it turned out to be a nightmare. The guy (Mikey)who gave my daughter a manicure was not even a nail tech! He came in 15min late, covered in cat hair and looked like he was out all night and only slept for only 1 hr. As he was giving my daughter a manicure I could help but notice how dirty and disgusting his own nails were. There was dirt under his nail, and you could tell he chews his nails with his mouth. The worst was when he started to use his own nail on my daughter's nails. I talk to Nancy and told her about my experience, she apologized. I left totally disappointed and was heading toward my car when Mikey came out the back door and got into a verbal altercation with me, Swearing at me and telling me that I think I'm all high and mighty and to get the F#$k out of his face all in front of my 7 year old daughter. I had to apologize to my daughter for the experience, but she still cried all the way home and said that she never wants another manicure again. Warning... Stay away from Mikey!!! read more

I recently got married, and after months of growing my hair out and not dying it, I decided I wanted to update my look. I must have sat on Groupon for days comparing salons. I'm new-ish to the area and was hoping to find a good hair stylist the area and I think I may have found it! This salon had the most reviews across other sites such as Yellow Pages and Citysearch, so I decided to go here. I'm glad I did! I purchased the largest package, which included a haircut, style, Moroccan Oil treatment, and full highlights. I was able to get an appointment within two days of purchasing the Groupon. My stylist was Stephanie and she was wonderful! My appointment was very long and she was very patient and friendly. I originally wanted burgundy highlights in my hair but she advised against them and we went with light brown highlights. I'm very pleased with the color! The haircut also looks fantastic and she did exactly what I asked for, and re-confirmed it a few times as well. I was also offered water, coffee, or wine. All in all, a very relaxing day. The only reason this place gets 4 stars is because of Jordan. She is five stars, unfortunately everything else was not. My best friend and I were about to buy the Groupon for this salon so we called to make sure there were times available the following day. We were able to schedule appointments. Then we realized the Groupon was only for two stylists at the salon so we called back to verify once again. Somehow they double booked Liz to fit in my friend and I opted to not buy the Groupon and was lucky enough to have Jordan. On our way to the salon we were discussing how neither of us had ever had such a great experience that we went back to the same person. Jordan definitely changed that. I usually avoid the awkward small talk. There is nothing awkward about her, however. By the time she was finished I wanted to invite her and her husband on our weekend Valentine's Day trip. She was awesome. She also did an amazing job on my hair. She was honest and not afraid to tell me why something couldn't work. I live on the North Side of Chicago and work in the north suburbs, but I will be going back, only to see her. My friend on the other hand... She was shampooed by a lady who looked like she was angry at the world and apparently sprayed water all over her face. Then she got a half-assed hair cut because the stylist was also finishing high lights on another customer. She was not very friendly and didn't listen to what my friend wanted at all. We don't know of it was actually Liz's fault or the salons, it was just disappointing. I have heard stories of people with Groupons being treated differently. They should be looking at it as a way to bring in new business. She will never go there again because of the way she was treated. read more

Absolutely fabulous!! I called here at the recommendation of my friend who's mom used to work here back in the day. It was close to our wedding venue and hotel where we were getting our hair done, so it seemed like a match made in heaven. I worked with Jessica on my makeup and she was wonderful! She listened to the history of my skin, took my concerns about oilyness into consideration and she did a great job with my makeup. I wasn't that happy with my eye makeup after my trial so I told her that and we went a different route and everything looked great! Jessica was all about listening to what I wanted and making sure I loved my makeup. Jessica and her colleague worked on my makeup as well as my mom and two of my bridesmaids and we all looked glamorous. I am really impressed with the job that they did and I'd go back here again if I ever find myself in need of a makeup application. The ladies who did my in-laws hair also rocked. I was very happy with the first time I went to the salon . however the second time was another story, when I made my appointment I asked if they were able to do it it when I showed up I waited 30 minutes to be seen to be told that they couldn't do it I was very disappointed and left. My mother and I went right after christmas and while I didn't have anything done myself I was VERY Impressed with the highlights and cut they gave mom. She also had a manicure and the woman was sooo NICE! All of the staff were really wonderful. My mom is in a wheelchair and they were able to accomedate her with no problems. I had a Groupon for services including highlights, haircut, and Moroccan oil treatment. I made multiple rescheduling appointments because it's been awhile since I had my hair colored and I was quite afraid that I wouldn't like what I wanted done to my hair, going from natural brown to highlights of my choice, Mikey helped me make a decision which color choice would work best with my indecision between blonder or caramels color and even went a step further and made the entire visit so comfortable knowing exactly what he needed to do with the highlights to ensure the results met my high expectations of coming away looking new and beautiful but also comfortable with the change based on a few pictures I showed him of my past hair color highlights that were all different colors but all had elements I liked. So he helped me come to the conclusion to mix balyage with root highlights for more color but not too much at once, and the color will last me at least 6 months with the method he used. He was professional and so nice to me, with his green hair and thin stature. He's willing to tone but gives his advice first so he never lets you linger in the dark if you're between decisions. He didn't let me down! What's more, his haircut is one in a million! I've had so many cuts over 29 years and his is exceedingly best practice, leaving me with hair so fresh and manicured that I wouldn't need to condition my hair after shampooing if I didn't want to that day, using world expertise techniques to have my cut fool proof from knots or mess after showing or a few days without shampooing. It was clear he'd been trained to cut like any famous expert or professional in the field! I would highly recommend for class, methodology and determination with an open mindedness that's beneficial to my and the clients needs whether it be splitting up a Groupon's package over time if you're running late or styling hair post package for added sophistication and 100% satisfaction when walking out the door with your new and updated look. When I first started going, I always came with an idea in my head. I realized quickly to let the experts make the decisions. I was in on 7/25/18 at around 1p I have to comment about the rude receptionist. She was actually nasty to a stylist in front of me and another patron at the front desk. After my service, the stylist was taking my credit card and the receptionist ( you know who you are) came around the corner with this open plate of food and began eating it with her finger in front of the three of us. After a few moments she made a strange hand gesture to the stylist, took her plate and left the front desk. I plan to call the owner in the event that more information is needed from me. I bought a group on for the spa package: facial, hand and eye treatment with a mini hot stone massage. I called and scheduled an appointment for today. I received a confirmation call yesterday. Well, I walked in to the salon today- was told my appointment didn't exist and they were completely booked. I practically showed the receptionist the call log on my phone proving someone had left me a voicemail the day before confirming my appointment. Then, I was told "I must've been accidentally erased" from the schedule book. The receptionist apologized several times- she seemed the only one that cared, and said "I believe you." I was offered nothing to make up for their mistake by the assistant, she just said "sorry about that" and walked away to let the poor receptionist handle the issue. I called the salon when I got home , and asked to speak to a manager. I received a call back from the technician. She told me that she directly spoke with me and I canceled my appointment. I told her No I didn't several times, and even said why would I show up if I canceled? Then she proceeded to tell me while laughing, "Maybe a friend is playing a joke on you?" What???? I got my hair done here a while back ago. I was a little disappointed in coming to this salon, as I really wanted to find a new place where I can get my hair cut and colored and come back to on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this will NOT be that place. I called the salon after seeing they had some decent reviews online and wanted to give them a try. I told the receptionist that I saw that they had a special on Groupon that was for a haircut, style, Moroccan Oil and FULL HIGHLIGHTS. Anyway, cut a long story short, when it finally came down to putting in the highlights, the hair dresser mentioned that they didn't have enough time to do full highlights and it would look better with just doing some parts of the back and sides of my hair. I was a bit taken aback by what she said, but she already started the process. So, I then mentioned to her that the Groupon said for FULL highlights and she then told me that if I don't like how it comes out, I can come back another time to get more, but it would be an extra charge. After that, I'm thinking to myself, why would I want to come back, when you didn't take care of me as your new client the first time around? Yeah, I'm sure the Groupon is cheap and normally highlighting costs more, but the whole point is trying to BRING CUSTOMERS in and give them good service, so that they can COME BACK. I felt that I was taken advantage of and they did a bait and switch. They advertise a full service, when you're barely getting half or not at all. Not only did my highlights not come out right, but the so-called "haircut and style" was non-existent. The cut I requested I didn't even get. My hair looks flat and boring. She put no texture or effort into the cut, making it nearly impossible to style it the way I want. I basically walked out of the salon looking exactly the same as I walked in. $70.00 bucks and a whole lot of time wasted. Oh, well. You know how the saying goes, "You live and you learn." I had been going to this salon for about a year because my mother was already a client and almost everytime that I called for an appointment, I got an unprofessional person on the phone who could not figure out head or tails on how to schedule an appointment, then they would get frustrated with you, the caller, because they couldnt get it together. I continuously ignored this because the hair stylist, Jordan was really nice. She was a little lazy and never took any initiative to do anything with your hair unless you specifically and directly asked, and she never suggested anything new for you, but was good at what work she actually did. Anyway, I made an appointment for 4pm and called Nancy Koss to say that I was running ten minutes late. The receptionist made a loud, irritated sigh on the phone and simply put me on hold, never even replying to my statement about running late. After she came back on the line, she immediately told me that we would have to reschedule, would I prefer next Saturday or Monday? "Excuse me, I said nothing about rescheduling", was my reply. She again rudely made a loud sigh as if I ruined her day and put me on hold. She came back and told me that ten minutes was too much of a delay and I needed to come in another day. By this time, I am 2 minutes away, my child is at the sitter, I cannot just "reschedule"! So, I proceeded to use some foul language, hung up and walked into another salon 2 miles away on Cicero called the Hair Room. I have thick, wavy hair which has often landed me a poor haircut and I'd put it off until I can't anymore. Tiffany took care of my worries and, having wavy hair herself, I was already more at ease as we got started. I felt like I got a 5 star treatment the way my hair was treated by all staff. I walked out more confident about my hair than I have ever been, seriously the best haircut I've ever had! Tiffany knew just how to cut it so that it's low maintenance--seriously, who can say that about thick, wavy hair?! I went here yesterday, I had a groupon for a Full Highlight, haircut, style, and Moroccan oil treatment. My appointment was with Desire and she really did a wonderful job on my hair. I wanted a pretty heavy highlight with blonde and she gave me exactly what I asked for. This was amazing because I've been to at least 5 different stylists in the past year and everytime I ask for a heavy highlight I never get it. I have naturally curly, thick hair and have never found someone who can help me manage it until I discovered Jordan at Nancy Koss. I've been given such a range of advice from past stylists and felt I have never found a style method or cut that is flattering yet easy. Jordan kindly guided me toward a washing, conditioning, and styling method that would help rebuild my hair. I absolutely loved the cut, and Jordan clearly knows the ins and outs of cutting curly hair. Additionally, as a mom of two, I really look forward to my time at hair appointments and I always have a great time during my cuts. The two stars are solely based on the receptionists Caitlin and Kristin was the other receptionist I believe. They were very rude when communicating over the phone. I would've given one star but the facial I received was nice so that other star was for the super nice esthetician. Also, the salon might want to think of a heater in the "lobby". I realize it might be hot for the hair stylists with the blow dryers but for clients waiting it's way too cold. Maybe that's why the receptionist has a heater by her. Further, the salon might want to have a smoking policy for their staff. I don't want to walk in and smell cigarettes from the receptionist. Even though she was super nice, still this is not something clients want to smell, especially if they're waiting while sitting in the cold. read more

I was very pleased with haircuts by Mikey since last September. I was unsure before he gave my first cut but found that he really knows how to cut and style hair. I was pleased to finally find a hairdresser on the south side who knows how to style hair. I recently made an appointment for a haircut and learned that Mikey is no longer there. I went anyway and received a cut from Sam who came from Fantastic Sams. Showed her a photo of style I wanted, but received a short, chopped, uneven cut. Nothing like the style in the picture....just typical Fantastic Sams short cut. Now, back to square one to try to find a hairdresser who knows how to style, not just chop. read more

I love Nancy Koss salon. I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding, and also brought in my mother and 7 bridesmaids for hair and makeup as well. Needless to say, it was a fairly large group, but they did an AMAZING job. Every person looked great, everyone had a different updo and they all looked different but equally amazing. I couldn't have been happier with my hair, and I am pretty picky. Maggie did my hair, and Nancy did my mom's. I've had my makeup done many times over the years and never liked it so much as the way they did it! The prices were EXTREMELY reasonable, considering we had updos and makeup for 9 people I couldnt believe how reasonable it was. I'm used to paying much more for services that I'm not nearly as happy with. Nancy also colored my mom's hair and it looked perfect. Most of all, everyone was so friendly and accomodating, and the atmosphere is so enjoyable -- it was a great way to relax and start such a big day. I am a medium ash brunette and had my heart set on seeing what I would look like as a blonde. I had never dyed my hair anything but slightly darker brown before. I went to my normal salon and got highlights for the first time ever. I absolutely hated them! I asked for Jennifer Aniston's color and instead received very brassy highlights. I was very upset and started asking around for a new colorist who might be able to save my hair. I was recommended to STEPHANIE and couldn't have been happier! Stephanie was very understanding and asked many questions to make sure we both had the same vision. She explained everything she was going to do before she started to make sure she had my approval. She used a combination of highlights and low lights to achieve my desired look. She also gave me a much needed deep conditioning treatment. The end result was beautiful! I had the soft, shiny, beautiful hair I had always wanted. I have never received so many compliments on my hair before.
