    Deep dish cheese pizza

Delicious deep dish pizza. Casual dining. Full service. Had some surprising extras like caramelized brussel sprouts! Delicious. Hot sandwiches, appetizers. Wanted to try this place for a long time on my way from So. Ill to Chicago! Finally made it and glad I did!

The problem with Chicago style pizza (pan or thin tavern crust) is it really isn't very good outside of Chicago. Many restaurants think pictures of the Chicago Cubs on the walls make them authentic. This wasn't at all the case at Nancy's. They WERE authentic. I'm embarrassed to say my expectations weren't too high-I was just hungry. On the road home I saw Nancy's sign on the road as we were driving. We stopped for a quick pizza and were happy we did. Nancy's pizza was close if not exactly as I remembered it last time I ate at Nancy's in the Chicago area. Just an excellent pizza. We ordered the stuffed pizza which as I said, was excellent. Checking out other tables, the thin looked great as well. I'm convinced that unless you buy your ingredients from the Chicago area, your pizza will not have that Chicago taste-thick or thin. Praise goes to this franchise owner for "sticking to the formula"! I've been disappointed enough that I need to be a bit euphoric when it's great. This stop will be added next year when we drive through the area again.

I give them one star for the nice waitress, but you ever leave somewhere and then it makes you think of what just happened, like that didn't seem right. So, I ordered a drink, wings and a small Rocco's Party deep dish. I then saw Yelp offered a 20% coupon off 1st pizza. I asked the waitress about it and she dropped off the bill with the discount. We start eating and she came by once of twice and when she dropped off the pizza, she said "Oh, disregard that receipt, I rang it up wrong." Ummm...okay. Pizza is bland and wings a bit dry. So, afterwards she gives me the new bill. The 1st bill she charged me about $20.xx for the pizza and with the discount, the bill was $36.xx. The 2nd bill, the pizza is $24.85 and total is $39.65. Huh! I paid it, but started to think about it when we left like, hmmmm.....did she jack up the price because of the 20% coupon which would be shady. So, coming home, I see the small deep dish is $13.95 and $1.85 for each ingredient. Which is $13.95 + $7.40 (sausage, mushrooms, onions & green peppers.) = $21.35. Why buy the Rocco's Party if it's cheaper to buy the ingredients alone? I don't know........left a bad taste in my mouth.

This was our second time eating here. Tried to give it a second chance after they first opened. Our waitress was not good. We waited for almost an hour for a simple pizza. Got charged for a salad that I never got. I requested it be removed. It was mediocre food and bad service and it was not at all busy. We will not give it a 3rd chance.

This is regular crust ( not the super thin)

It's the closest Chicago Pizza place to us, but it's still an hour away. It's still worth an occasional trip out.

I was on a road trip up from Florida to Wisconsin with a friend. We were going through Springfield, Illinois, so we could visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum & Library. So that's how I ended up in this neck of the woods. Needed a spot for dinner and this popped up as an option and sure glad it did. My friend & I both opted for the Fried Chicken dinner and this place makes the best fried chicken I've had in decades! OMGOSH! The meat was fully cooked, but still so incredibly juicy. The crispy skin and coating was unreal, it was so good - it was truly "finger-lick in' good". While I'm borrowing that old slogan, The Ariston Cafe's fried chicken is like the fried chicken ideal of perfection. They have a classic salad bar and that hit the spot, especially on a road trip where you're not often getting enough veggies. I'm writing this review some weeks later after getting back home. If the place had been average, I wouldn't bother, but when a reminder to do a review popped up, I had to do this as the waitresses and cooks deserve it, as do the owners & all the staff. Waitresses were all nice as could be and helpful. It's like walking back in time when you go inside, and it reminded me of great restaurants in the area I grew up in. If I make it back up that way again, I'll plan my travels to include another stop in at The Artisan.

First impressions, the restaurant needs some help with cleanliness. Tables and chairs are worn out, the floor just looks old and dirty. I'm sure they clean, but when things get that worn and old, it doesn't matter. Part of the "charm" of this restaurant is the Route 66 proximity, and that was part of our reason for going there being the 100th anniversary of the mother road. When you enter you are faced with a bit of confusion. There are handwritten signs telling you to grab a menu and get a table, then you have to go to the counter and place your order. I've seen this before and it makes little sense. I suppose it's a labor saving method, but not practical at all. We found a table and looked at the menu, which is quite extensive. They, also, baked their own breads and pies and have a display case with pastries. We placed our order and returned to our table. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but while we waited, I watched people coming in and being just as confused about the ordering system as we were. Plus, the line at the counter grew into the seating area. I would think the counter would be good for to go orders like the baked goods and pastries rather than dining customers. I ordered the 1/4 ham and provolone croissant sandwich with fries, my daughter ordered a turkey wrap, and my wife ordered the turkey club. They both ordered fruit cups as their side. The croissant was very good. It was flaky, moist and pillowy, but held the ingredients of the sandwich well. My wife and daughter said their sandwiches were fine. I'm not sure my sandwich had a full 1/4 pound of ham on it, but it did have good flavor. The fries were hot, but right out of the bag. The fruit cups didn't appear the freshest. It looks like they do a good business with the baked goods and pastries. Maybe that should be the business which would make more sense with the style of service they are doing. It was worth trying, but I don't know if I would return. The employees were all friendly and were hustling and I did see someone clearing tables, but I think the place could go for a remodel just to maintain an appearance of

I know that the two souls working this morning did their best. Their leadership clearly underestimated how many people would come out for breakfast on a New Years day. While reinforcements did eventually show up, we in that first wave took a bit of a slight in timing and preparation of the food. When you are in the weeds, and feeling rushed you are not always at your best. Today's marginal performance is on the franchise owner and the manager doing scheduling, not the two people hustling as best they could. I got a Philly cheese steak omelet, hash browns and a biscuit. It was all just okay- cooked a bit too fast and hot so all of the textures suffered, the flavors no time to really develop. My wife got her standard eggs, sausage, hash brown and toast. Same issues it was okay, but the rush cook job left a bit to be desired on the flavors and textures. The place was reasonably clean, it's not overdone on decorations, a nice enough place. We will likely give it another chance at some point. We certainly wouldn't make a 12 mile drive like we did this morning.
