Not sure why this place gets bad reviews. Went there for a simple dinner. I had the ono fish n chip. Fish was very fresh and clean tasting, with a little beer taste;fries thick, but seasoned...ok. Daughter had swordfish which was very well prepared and others had burger which was plenty fine but the nanea chips are awesome, better than fries. Expensive yes but very convenient.. service was very nice and it's right by the pool with peeekaboo ocean views. Most things in Kauai are expensive, especially in Princeville. So yes expensive for what you get but food was good and it's convenient for those days you just wanna plop Down and eat and not try and get some crazy reservation a week in advance. read more

Staying at the Resort we ate here for Fathers Day. Let me say that Juli our server did her best but it was sloooow to get drinks and food. I had the special pulled pork sandwich and it was not edible. The pork was so over cooked it was hard. The kitchen tried to cover this up by putting bbq sauce all over it but that does help over cooked pork. The other 2 dishes were just ok. I sent back the pork and Juli took it off the bill with her apology. There are chickens running all over the place and they even have chicken spray on the tables. The ambiance is just ok but I expected more from the Westin. The prices are high but normal for a hotel. Bikini Blonde $14, Vodka tonic $20. On our first night at the resort in Princeville, Kauai, we decided to ease into vacation mode with some food and drinks at Nanea Restaurant & Bar, located right on the property. We grabbed seats at the bar and were greeted right away by the bartender, who was attentive and friendly. To start, we shared the Brussels sprouts, and for the main dish we split the shrimp carbonara, which turned out to be the star of the evening--creamy, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. For drinks, Miori ordered a hazy IPA on tap, while I went with a Cadillac margarita. Both were excellent choices that paired well with the food. When it was time to wrap up, paying by card was quick and easy, and we left a tip before heading out. The restaurant reopened for business on Mother's Day after a renovation. We took advantage of HH from M-F 2p-4p. Saving $3 off selected cocktails and $6 for certain beers. As the restaurant just reopened it had a certain industrial odor. Thank goodness for the openness facing the ocean. We had dinner on our last night. Great service. Ordered - * hubby had the rib eye steak * daughter & I both had the glazed pork chop bone in. Great presentation and our food well seasoned. The local honey used on food & beverage grown by the mixologist Chris. He's very friendly and approachable. His honey is sold at the market located onsite. Food was just average, service was good and ambiance was quiet and relaxed. If you're staying at the Westin, the draw is certainly convenience to drive anywhere. But the menu felt lacking and just average. Nachos poke and the chips that came other entree sides were stale and oily. Quesadilla with kalua pork was overwhelming. Lovely views of the Ocean and well groomed resort. Menu a bit limited though food is well prepared don't expect gourmet elegance in the food but it is OK. What's better than dining at the resort you're vacationing at? Tanning all day, adding a few drinks, then heading back to shower before your 7 PM reservation! Yay! I'm usually not a fan of resort restaurants, but Nanea was a solid choice. The menu isn't my favorite overall, only because I'm not big on pork and short ribs, but they had a fresh catch of Mahi Mahi--Bingo! I'm in. Our party of 8 ordered a mix of everything, from starters to burgers, and when the food arrived, it all looked so good! My Mahi Mahi? Delicate, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth good. My daughter's wagyu burger was also a hit. Everyone at the table was happy with their meals. And just when I thought the night couldn't get better, my little resort cat--who had been visiting our villa--showed up at our table. We named her Kukua, and the staff said she and several other cats try to visit. They shushed the cat out so quick! So all you cat haters, be happy. I would've been happier to dine with my feral friend. Next up! Dessert! We ordered all four options: pineapple sorbet, coconut cake, ube cheesecake, and hazelnut crème brûlée. Because life is too short to skip dessert! Each one was amazing in its own way, and we had zero regrets. Our server (maybe Brian? Will?) was awesome--attentive, friendly, and made the night even better. Big thanks to him! Not the best wine menu, but they do offer some fun drink concoctions! We enjoyed a nice dinner here. It's a restaurant in a hotel where there aren't a lot of dining options. We wanted to walk to dinner and the next closest place is a mile away. There is seating inside and outside. Prices aren't insane. We had the fish and chips and fish tacos. It was the same fish for both, it was a good texture and a good portion. The fries are REALLY good, but hardly any dishes come with them. It's a $4 up charge, but they are really good. The service was good. Our server was around just enough. They close promptly at 7:45 PM which is annoying. The bar had a big rush at 7:40, they'll keep serving whoever is already in the restaurant, but they shut the doors to the restaurant at 7:45. Walked over to Westin's Nanea Restaurant a couple of weeks ago for an early dinner. First off, if you are looking to really get in to vacay mode, skip the mai tai and hit the Thai Chi!! Holy vacation mode...this will definitely get you there QUICK!! Service is always friendly, just understaffed like most of Kauai. So order your cocktail and settle in for a chill experience. If you are in a hurry (why?!) then, let your waitstaff know up front. Not saying this will help, but at least they will know why your vibe is fired up. ‍ Today we started with the lettuce wraps. An absolutely MUST!! Then I had the Hawaiian Plate ( i was craving this!!) and my daughter ordered the seafood curry (first time trying). Hawaiian plate was on point!! Good here was delicious we ended up getting it a few nights while we stayed in Princeville. We got the sweet potato ravioli and the catch of the day plate. Both were equally as good. We did a light dinner here last night: 2 Caesar salads. One with chicken and one with shrimp. The lettuce was still quite wet, so the dressing just seemed to get washed off / watered down. We were over half done with our salads before we could get our wait person to bring more dressing. Second, it had anchovies. I know that is the tradition way, but normally it is mentioned on the menu or the wait staff tells you. Nope, neither. Finally, the chicken was a little rubbery. No real taste. Maybe, they need to service up some free range chicken. For the price, skip the restaurant and swing by the nearest ABC store that serves hot food. And a glass a wine is $19. That is the price of a bottle of that wine at Costco. They need to spend their (our) money on a real chef, not the remodeled bar! read more

Don't run out of fish!! Hard to believe a restaurant on Kauai runs out of fish. Service was ok but menu choices were limited.

We decided to have a nice dinner at the Nanea the last night on the island. We were going to do the pre fixe meal, which looked appetizing, but there were other tasty options offered on the menu that I went for instead. My husband had the Beef Tenderloin pre fixe with a Cesar salad and cream Brûlée. The salad came right away, looking a bit over dressed with soggy lettuce leaves, and croutons. The steak was fabulous, however, beautifully plated with the local purple mash and lovely carrots sitting on a pool of silky brown gravy. The steak was cooked to perfection and the mash and carrots a perfect accompaniment. I had the coconut shrimp and lettuce wraps for dinner and loved what I ate. The shrimp was crunchy and tender on the inside. The wraps were loaded with very tender, teriyaki beef strips and a spicy pineapple salsa. It was all sitting on a fresh lettuce leaf and super refreshing to eat. The meal was great and our server very attentive. The view couldn't be better of the pool and Pacific in the distance. They also have nightly entertainment here, so we were serenaded by a local musician which made it all the more special. read more

June 2023 2.5, decent I'd say. Gotta start the trip off with drinks so we went to the restaurant at the hotel for ideas. Service was intermittent, water refills and check ins low. If you needed something I discovered it is easier to go visit the bar over the time we were at the hotel. We had gotten a few different drinks between us as well as some sweet potato fries and roasted veggies side. I also got a side of the curry sauce to try things out. We got margaritas to start, then a 1954 mai tai and royal ube colada to end. The margaritas were a bit sweet but not too heavy handed. The 1954 mai tai was pretty good though it was heavy on the rum which wasn't necessarily bad. My partner got the royal ube colada which was a bit sweet to me but worked well for her. The veggies and fries were cooked well, though the veggies needed seasoning and the curry sauce forgettable. read more

Ok, ok, ok I only have good things to say on my reviews but mama said, "if you don't have nothin nice to say, don't say nothin at all!!!" LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Nanea's on Thursday nights! Full disclosure- I've only ever had 1 item, multiple times! "It's the "CRAB BOIL"!!! On Kauai? What??? Oh boy!!! Sooo good!!! I would not go to dinner here wearing "white" or "silk". In fact, wear something with multiple colors like you were assaulted by paint balls. They do provide the nifty iconic plastic bib to cover you with but depending on who you sit with that may be ineffective. Prepare to eat with your hands! No forks. No spoons. No knife. You get crab crackers! It's all you need. Ok, sometimes I use my teeth. No shame! Hubby says, "it's HOT!" They give you a whole crab, shrimp, clams, potato and TWO corn on the cob soaking in a divine red sauce or soup whatever you wanna call it wonderfulness of flavor. It's a lot of food but somehow I always manage to finish it all. I will say, a fork would be useful for when the hubby reaches over to try and steal my bounty. Just a thought. It's super fun and a bit messy and best enjoyed with friends all ordering the same thing. It's definitely SAVAGE! You gotta do it! Also, the wonderful Michael Keale is there on Thursday and Fridays entertaining guests with his music. The guy is legendary! He's really great fun playing hits from all genres and ages and doesn't miss a key. Sing along are welcomed. About the service; I'm sure everyone rocks their job but the two guys who've served us are Bryan and Mike. They bring such great energy to the table despite individually having to be octopus at dinner service. Really, the service they provide makes the experience that much more enjoyable. They seem to always know when the table needs more napkins or drinks. If you can fit in a desert, I recommend the ube lilikoi cheesecake. Fun fact, ugh I hate cheesecake! I won't even eat at the Cheesecake Factory because "cheesecake" is in the name. Like, who even thinks "cheese" and "cake" should be mentioned in the same word???? Smh. Anyway, it was my birthday and they brought me a slice. Mama also said, "be polite and just take a bite!" Omgeee it wasn't just good, it was great. I didn't want to share but of course I did. The ONLY reason I ate here was due to the 75.00 resort credit I received for attending a presentation. The food here is very, very expensive and they charge 8 bucks if you split a dish with someone. You can take food to go, which is what I did. I had the fresh catch. It was 39 bucks. The fish was cooked well, the sauce was tasty. The purple mash was a bit sweet for my liking. There were 2 tiny carrots on the side. The coconut cake( 14) came from Orly patisserie. I could not eat it. It tasted like it was left uncovered in the refrigerator. I should have walked it back to the restaurant, but I was much too tired from a snorkeling trip. Skip that. They also don't serve breakfast. You're forced to spent 14 bucks for a breakfast sandwich( or burrito) at their little store. read more

Very Expensive but tasty food and drinks. We ate outside with the roosters and hens. They provide water sprayers. They didn't really bother us though. The waiter on the 1st night was very nice and attentive. We asked him a ton of questions since we just arrived in Kauai. He was very nice to us. We went the next night for drinks only. Our waitress forgot about us. The hostess who seated us helped us several times including getting another drink, and another Waiter got us our check. That was $66 for 3 drinks. That was not worth it that night. I would give it 3 stars. But the wonderful hostess who seats people was a gem. She was very engaging with everyone. She saved the night. Although the Service and the people are quite nice, this is just a very poor excuse. I was totally surprised by the quality of food that came out of that kitchen on multiple occasions. I give it one star because I like the people there and it is a beautiful environment. This is such a great property. We love to come here and it's so beautiful and it's such a beautiful area but it's a real shame that the food quality is so incredibly poor. It's not that it's just "not great". Service is a little slow because the same servers that are taking care of you are also bringing out drinks to people at the pool. The outdoor seating is right by the manmade waterfall and by the live entertainment. Rib Eye Steak was average and not steakhouse quality. The teriyaki sauce did make it better. Fresh Catch Burger was Mahi Mahi. Tasty fish sandwich with good fries. The Ube Cheesecake was the best thing served to us. It was really good! Bottom line: It's a cashless restaurant that bills you on your room tab. There's a great view of water features, live entertainment, the pool, ocean and sunrise/sunset skies. The food is just average. You can find better options in Princeville and even better food options in nearby Hanalei town. If you don't feel like leaving the resort or want some food and/or drinks poolside, this is a good option. Just don't expect too much and you'll be fine. read more

Since west Maui was devastated with fire in August, my wife and I decided to come to Kauai instead. We have not been back since 2015 and you know, this place is really a great place to visit. Nanea restaurant is the only restaurant at the Westin Princeville Resort Villas. AS a result, their menu is very limited but very well serviced. The food here was amazingly fresh and delicious. The service was prompt and our server had us laughing and smiling with his smart comments about living in Kauai with limited financial means! Their menu selection is quite limited but what they served was beyond delicious! Their fish or seafood options were fresh and caught hours before cooked and served! Now, that's fresh! The restaurant is outdoors and dinner was awesome because the ambience was the gentle breezes from the Pacific called the trade winds, and they were blowing that night! The delicious food and the beautiful night sky was magical combination of island life! We might have to alter our vacation plans and include Kauai once again! read more

Really don't like posting bad reviews; however, it is sometimes the only way to communicate management issues to ownership. Nanea is a resort restaurant located in the Westin Princeville. Really nice setting along the pool area with live music most evenings. Unfortunate circumstances with staff left us seeing our waitress 3 times throughout the meal with us walking out calling the front desk to notify them that staff was absent for most of our meal. Although the food had decent presentation, it quickly revealed itself to be a heat and repeat operation with most items having come out overcooked and not freshly prepared. HI being influenced throughout the decades from Polynesian and Asian trends overcooked the rice in a chicken bowl and handed over a Luke warm quesadilla that was more than likely reheated in a microwave. Along with insult to injury, called us 4 hours later to settle the charge and asked for a tip which we obliged. Although convenient as it is on-site, would recommend going to Foodland or the General store for any culinary desires. read more
