    Meaty Fish Tacos

Great food and super friendly staff. We stopped in with friends right before lunch closed and they were kind enough to accommodate us. Our server (wish I caught his name!) was awesome and gave us great recommendations. I had an IPA and the fish tacos, which were HUGE and packed with fish - none of that heavy breading. So fresh and delicious. Definitely coming back before we leave Kauai. Highly recommend

This place has the best seafood I have ever eaten in my life! Seriously! It's so good! We arrived when there was 30 minutes left of happy hour so we ordered calamari! Wow! That was DELICIOUS! I didn't get a pic because it was gone so fast! Then for dinner I ordered the fish and chips (fish was Ono), one of my daughter's ordered the monchong fish, and my other daughter ordered the sunset sushi roll. All three of us were very satisfied with our choices! Have I said delicious yet? And we sat outside near the Hanalei Heritage River...so beautiful! If I find myself back in Kauai I will be back again and I will recommend to all. And our waiter Nick was awesome...so personable and attentive!

A family-owned spot in downtown Hanalei for 30+ years. Arrive early to put your name on the list - they gave us a buzzer and we walked around to the neighboring businesses while we waited. We were seated on the covered patio, overlooking their lawn and the Hanalei River. The food was straightforward and good, but what we liked the most was our server. I sadly don't recall her name but she was a young girl who grew up in Hanalei and clearly has passion for food and for service. She knew the menu and spoke confidently about it, and shared little anecdotes along the way - she was attentive, informative, joyful, and yet not intrusive. A shining service star. The mixed tempura starter was tasty. The salad was a plate of fresh veggies - fresh but basic in presentation and flavor. I personally might skip this next time. We really enjoyed the daily special of soba noodles with yuzu sauce. Bright and citrusy. And the sushi rolls we enjoyed were clean in flavor with a focus on the fresh fish: -Next Best Thing -Hamachi -Avocado roll Another friend said that she orders the sushi rolls to go. And she also told me about their neighboring fish market, if you want to get fish to make at home (we did not have time to check that out). To cap our our meal, we shared a piece of the Homemade Dolphine Ice Cream Pie and it was decadently delicious!

Been spending a lot of time on Kauai this past year and one of our favorite places to stop by and grab some sushi rolls is the Dolphin, not the main restaurant but the fish market on the backside of the restaurant. They have a nice assortment of fresh seafood, pok'e, rolls, and cuts by the pound. We usually get a couple rolls and share them, really like their spicy ahi and spicy salmon rolls. Fish is always super fresh and they are filling for sure. They also have some artisan products for sale like sauces, jellies, pasta, and nuts...a lot more as well. Definitely recommend here but come early, rolls often sell out quick.

A highlight of our trip for sure. The absolute best Ahi sashimi we have had in our life! It just melted in our mouths. The mug of seafood chowder was delicious too and paired perfectly with the sashimi. Be sure to stop in the fish market around the back. Great staff too! An absolute must if you are visiting the island of Kauai.

Love the Dolphin and come here whenever I'm on the island. An absolute must. Friendly service, fun vibes, great food. The Flyin' Hawaiian with SEARED hamachi (ask for it seared it makes a difference) is THE BEST SUSHI ROLL I'VE EVER HAD. I ordered 3 last time. Truly incredible. All the nigiri I've had there is wonderful and I love the seafood chowder, miso soup, and the edamame with sesame oil. The Unagi hand roll is delicious. No notes.

I had the lobster and scallops, firecracker sushi and shrimp tempura it was all so delicious. Waitress was excellent celebrated my birthday by giving me a bowl of icecream. with my fudge brownie. I forgot her name but being a former waitress i am super impressed that she handled her busy section flawlessly!

Cute place with a pretty outdoor seating, came here for dinner when we were on the island and had the monchong grilled fish - it was a pretty big size and was delicious. Service was just okay.

I went with the Garlic Butter Shrimp Plate. The shrimp doesn't come shelled which is fine as it just reminds me of when my dad and grandmother would make shrimp The garlic butter was so good and lived that it mixed into the rice. The greens were good as well. Only downfall when peeling the shrimp is that you are with happy cause it was worth it or you are disappointed. I'll tell you, it is well worth it cause you are rewarded with a buttery, tender piece of large shrimp. The food came a little slower than expected but you know it was made fresh! We heard they were completely out rice and greens but we still went ahead and got the spicy garlic Kauai shrimp and the spicy pineapple shrimp tacos. Loved the tacos which had a real kick but the spicy garlic shrimp was really the star. First the Kauai shrimp was super fresh and personally I love eating shrimp heads so this was a real treat. The shrimp had such a nice texture and flavor I could tell they were great quality. The spicy garlic sauce was definitely the best I've had. So much flavor and with just a bit of kick to complement the umami shrimp. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Kauai and will come earlier just in case they sell out!

Indulge Your Taste Buds at the Newly Reimagined Hanalei Gourmet!…read more Tonight, we decided to check out the newly reopened Hanalei Gourmet, and what a fantastic experience! Under brand-new management as of just two weeks ago, this location has taken a completely fresh approach. Don't be misled by older Yelp reviews attached to the previous incarnation; the new team has introduced an open, airy atmosphere and a elevated menu centered around fresh, high-quality ingredients. A quick heads-up for prospective diners: they are still in the process of finalizing their liquor license. However, they make BYOB seamless! You can easily grab a bottle across the street at the market or down the road at the liquor store , and the staff will gladly set you up at the table for a very reasonable $5-per-person corkage fee. We picked up a bottle of Joel Gott Chardonnay nearby, which paired beautifully with our meal. As for the food, the presentation and taste were outstanding: Catch of the Day (Marlin): Macadamia-crusted to perfection and served with a subtle, light curry sauce, accompanied by fresh vegetables and rice. Perfectly cooked and full of tropical flavor. Chicken & Vegetable Soup: A rich, comforting bowl packed with fresh veggies, served alongside a warm, crusty roll. The new management has truly transformed this space into a bright, welcoming spot. Five stars all around--we will definitely be returning! the liquor store across the street. Our waiter, Josh, was amazing. We talked through the menu before we ordered and he told us about every dish that was on the menu not only did he provide a great review of the dishes before we ordered, but he actually inspired us to try the catch of the day as he had seen the fish brought in that morning from the ocean. He was a very good server, constantly checking on us making sure that our water glasses were full and that we were having a good dining experience.

WOW. They're so good you might forget you wanted alcohol in the first place. And a huge shout-out to Chloe, the OG bartender. She gets it done and always with a smile.
