My daughter and I were headed up to Portland and got caught just before a Highway 5 closure north of Redding. Although the 1610 travel advisory radio alerts said that Highway 299 was not an alternate route, it looked good on Google Maps. So, we decided to take a chance. After making our way a fair distance up 299, we realized that we'd need chains so we made our way back to Redding to acquire some. We headed back up 299 and stopped with everyone else when it came time to put on the chains. Then it was time to split off to Highway 89 in order to connect back to the 5 beyond the closure. Conditions on 89 were okay at first so we pulled over to remove the chains before it got too dark. My daughter - smarter than her mother - had no problem unhooking her chains and laying them flat on the road. I, however, did not notice that I hadn't completely unhooked and flattened my chains so when I went to roll off of them they got caught in the axle. By this time it was almost dark, on this nearly deserted, unlit road. We called 911, who sent a CHP officer. The officer was an absolute saint who got on the ground with a flashlight to see if he could untangle the chain. No luck. He called for a tow truck and thankfully waited with us until it came. Here's where Mt. Burney Towing joins our sad roadside party. As the driver backed up in front of us, I told my daughter that the entire trip hinged on this moment. If the guy was to tell us that we'd have to be towed to the nearest town and stay overnight, we might have to scrap our Portland plans. Who knows what the repairs could cost and how long they would take? The tow truck guy could have EASILY taken advantage of us, taking us for a literal and figurative ride, but NOPE! For a very nominal fee, he pulled off the wheel, pulled out the tangled chain, checked around carefully, and proclaimed that there was zero damage to the car. On top of that, he fixed a hook on the chain that I had bent when I rolled over it, so that we could still use the chain. Which AGAIN saved our trip because we ended up having to put the chains back on a few miles later and kept them on for the next few hours as we traversed dark, narrow, solitary 89 to Mount Shasta and back to the 5. If the business owner reads this, I want to say THANK YOU for saving our trip! While everyone else on Highway 5 lost up to 24 hours because of the closure, we only lost half a day. It could have been much worse if not for your kind and honest service.

Long story but I was so grateful Mike's shop wasn't too far away from where my car decided to stop running on Christmas Day at 5:30pm. Here's the long story. My family and I were on a Christmas/New Year road trip from Houston to Oregon when our transmission died in Burney, California on Christmas Day. It was cold, dark, rainy, and everything closed, and we were 2,200 miles from home. That night, I found Mike's shop and left him a voicemail. The next morning at 7:55am. sharp, I decided to give Mike a call and he immediately answered and said he had just heard my voicemail. He drove out to where we got stranded eventhough he didn't have to, but he did. He then diagnosed the van, and told me that the Torque Converter was gone. After talking to him, he suggested that a remanufactured transmission was the best way to safely get us home since from the diagnostic alone, he couldn't tell if it was just the torque converter itself or other components within the tranny that also failed. So the safest bet since we were pretty far from home and time was not on our side, a whole replacement of the tranny would be best and quickest. From that moment on, Mike and his family went above and beyond to help us and treated us like family. Mike knew that we didn't reach our destination which the wife really wanted to see Burney Falls so he offered to let us use his Expedition through out the weekend for free and not sit stuck in our van. I adamant to pay him for using the car but him and his misses refused to take my money. Burney is a tiny town with no rental cars, no dealerships, and holiday shipping delays. Despite all that, Mike worked nonstop to source a transmission as fast as possible. Again it was super hard to get people to answer him since it was right after Christmas and the coming week was New Year's. Mike and Meghan knew that we were anxiously waiting on the new tranny because we were trying to decide as to whether going home in our rental (we drove Mike's car to Redding and rented a rental from Enterprise that Monday. And we were deciding to whether drive home in the rental which would take us 3 days of driving or to stay and wait until the new tranny get there.) Unfortunately Mike thought that I was still waiting in the area because I told him that we planned to drive back to Houston on Thursday 1/1/26. Mike forgot to let me know of the shipment updates so I decided to leave Burney and started driving back to Texas on New Year's Eve because my institution was telling me that there was no way the new tranny would make it to Burney on time. When Mike found out that the new transmission was delivered to the Reno's hub (3 hours from Burney), instead of waiting for it to be delivered after the holiday weekend, Mike sent Megan to drive to Reno and bring it back so he could finish the job faster. They didn't know us, didn't owe us anything, and still treated us like we were their good friends. Mike's gf, Michelle, was also super nice and she was worried for us from the cold that Christmas weekend since we were hunkering down in our broken down camper in front of their shop. Thanks to them, the van was repaired and running like new. I flew back the following week and picked it up, and drove home to Houston. Megan even offered to pick me up from the airport in Reading (1 hour away) to save me from spending money on Uber . Our trip didn't go as planned, but I truly believe things happen for a reason. God put the right people in our path, and for us, that was Mike, Michelle, and Megan. Also the price of a remanufactured transmission with 3yr/500k mile warranty was way better than I expected. Again, thank you so much Mike!

After checking reviews, I brought my car to Mike first thing in the morning. I explained to him the issues I was having and he jumped on it immediately. Checked everything you could possible check and took it for two test drives. He didn't just half a** it, he thoroughly checked everything. Even explained to me what he was doing and what to look for so I know for myself. Turned out to be an easy solution, thankfully. He had me back on the road and my peace of mind restored. Also charged a fair price for all of the extensive checking he did. If you're in Burney or near it and are having car issues...go to Mike. He'll treat you fairly and honestly. Highly recommended.
