One of the more affordable places in the area, and we really liked their friendly hospitality. Somebody checks you in at the front door and escorts you to the tasting room to advise the employees inside how they can help you. The grounds are pretty, and the staff was friendly. Would give zero stars if I could. We showed up with a large group and they said that they couldn't accommodate us. No problem we said, we understood, but they then proceeded to follow us into the parking lot to tell each person in our party "the rules of wine country." I grew up Sonoma son, don't be telling me about the rules, because you moved here from Turlock last month and consider yourself a local. CHURCH! Small tasting room with a beautiful outdoor picnic space. We were able to bring our own brunch items and lounge around outside before starting our tasting inside. Our educator was very nice but she may have been new as she did not seem too familiar with the wines. She did however make sure we all had a great experience and felt taken care of which was the more important part. The tasting room is quite small so it would be nice if you're looking for an quiet, intimate experience. We had cheeses and bread sticks with our wine and the flavors of the cheeses really did bring our the flavors of the wines. I enjoyed the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir. This was a nice place to start for our day of wine tastings. We also went to Hall and Mumm with each experience being quite different but building upon the last. Not sure if I will be back with so many other fabulous wineries in the area to check out but I did enjoy my time here. read more

This place is a little gem! You can buy wines by the glass (from $5 to $10 each) and bring your own picnic. I went to this deplorable establishment yesterday with a group of about 30 people. At first glance it was perfectly fine, but it wasn't until the fellow serving drinks stole from us (then denied it and was rude about it) that my attitude completely soured. The Situation: My friend bought ourselves two flights of wine tastings (3) for $5 each and handed the fellow pouring the wine a $20 bill. He took the bill and handed it to the cashier and asked us to move out of the way so others could get our drinks. My friend inquired about getting his change back, but the server said he would come to us and not to worry about it. Confused, my friend and I looked at each other and moved out of the way. We come back for the second flight and my friend asked about getting his change back which he had not yet received. The server, to our disbelief, said that he doesn't owe us any change and doesn't know what we're talking about. Incredulous, my friend and I asked to speak to the manager. While we were waiting for the manager, another employee commented that this isn't the first time this has happened with this server. Wait what?!?! So, let me get this straight: Other customers have complained about having money stolen from them and this guy is still working there? This isn't a 3-strikes and your out kind of thing. You steal, you get fired. End of story. The fact he is still around speaks loads to this entire establishment. The Conclusion: The manager came out and we explained the situation to her. Without any sign of sincere outrage or apology she gave my friend the $10 he was owed, and proceeded to make up an excuse about how this was likely a failure of communication between the server and the cashier. Bullshit. This guy pocketed the money and proceeded to lie about it, and the hell of it is, it wasn't his first time! The Kicker: As we left the building I heard the manager and the server talking in a tone as if nothing happened. I saw no sign of admonishment, and it was clear to me that the manager is incompetent and perhaps complicit with the theft. I wish I could provide you with the names of both of these employees. If I figure them out I will make an edit. I will never visit this winery again and will never drink a bottle of their wine. This was one of hell of an experience for my first time in Napa. read more

I had to see it for myself. So there it was at my local Costco here in Montebello on sale for $7.49 per. Now Mind you! I know a few people that are up the Costco Ladder in job positions. Even they tell me that they buy Pallets of wine and sometimes leave it just lying around!!! Yeah meaning maybe outside! Scares me to buy wine at Costco. Oh yeah! I just remembered! One of the cheapest tastings ($10) that is fun and an interesting experience in a hut. Although you can get Menage a Trois basically anywhere (good deals at Costco), it was fun to sample their other products. The tasting bar itself is pretty small but you can walk around the garden and there is a long table outside where you can also wine and enjoy the sun. The pourers are friendly and the fee is also waived if you purchase a bottle - so it's basically worth it to buy a bottle. read more

After I passed the Napa Cellars and noticed the Ménage à Trois logo earlier that morning, I knew that I wanted to make it back around to this one. It was raining and so we didn't experience the grounds here. The tasting area was a bar area in the middle the place that was lined with souvenirs. I decided to do a tasting of the reds. I was surprised that they didn't offer any Ménage à Trois options and when I asked about them, she said that because you can taste them anywhere, they wanted to feature other wines. Fair enough. Mid tasting was a shift change because the next thing I know the gal came out of the back area with her purse and walked out the door. Never acknowledging that she was leaving and that someone would be taking over the tasting... it was odd and not like what wait staff does in KY. Someone needs to teach these people some customer service. I say that because the guy taking over the tasting after wasn't any more friendly. He asked where I was on the tasting and that was about as far as it went... dang it, I should've told him that I'd only had the first one. The bathroom was on the outside of the tasting room, which was a bit odd and inconvenient, especially since it was raining. Not a huge deal, and not anything to do with my low rating, it was just an observation. All in all, the wines were good and I still love Ménage à Trois wines... Our friends like having Folie a Deux wines at home so we thought it might be fun to bring them by the tasting room recently for a sampling. Fun, it was not... The tasting room is older, showing it's age, but has a nice patio out back. It seems to be a favorite of the limo crowd, though.. Our pourer had to have been 80 years old, kept forgetting which wine we were on, and was nice but not knowledgeable about wine at all. The wines themselves are what the winery markets them as, low cost table wines, and they taste as advertised..meh. Though the prices are low, no bottles were purchased by us or our friends here... Learned a lot about their brands and how their national brand, Ménage à Trois, works in the mix. Kip, our server, was really great and catered the tasting to what we wanted. For $10, I was able to drink only Cabs across the three brands. He also threw in a taste of one of their reserve wines that they were sampling that day. Went on a Friday afternoon and had most of the outside to ourselves. I could see how it might be harder to find a seat though on a busy weekend. You can buy glasses/bottles of wine and take them out there to enjoy. Perfect if you find something from your tasting that you want a little bit more of. Very relaxed atmosphere and perfect for chatting with friends. Not stuffy or pretentious, but also not super fancy/elegant if you're looking to impress. Stays open until 6pm, whereas a lot of places close at 5, so great for sneaking in an extra tasting on your way back to Napa. read more

We were waiting for Mustards Grille to open and took a walk to Folie a Deux. It was literally across the bridge. I mean the pedestrian bridge, very short. Folie a Deux was not on our stop list, but for $7 a tasting, sure! It's good, for $7 and the price of the wine. Compare this to the wine in its price range and you got yourself a really good one. Don't be comparing it to Silver Oak or something in that range. But yeah, I like Folie a Deux and wouldn't mind coming back. The scenery was pretty nice too!. read more

Came here on the recommendation of Jesús from Black Stallion, who got me a complimentary tasting. The tastings here aren't expensive, though, at only $5, so I would make this a must-stop, especially if you're on the 29 side of the Valley rather than the Silverado Trail side near Oakville. I was familiar with them before, from the Ménage à Trois (alas, not that kind of ménage à trois ;-) ) from Costco, a nice value wine for everyday drinking. They share a tasting room with Napa Cellars and I skipped them, but I would give them a try, their wines are well worth the price. I wasn't blown away by anything here, but I found the '06 Zin good enough to take home, and it ends up being their most popular. I've been impressed by a lot of the Zins and Cabs in Napa, you almost can't go wrong. In fact, I'm reading Paul W.'s review on the sidebars, and I'd totally agree with his assessment of both the Zin and Folie a Deux. When I actually get around to drinking the bottle, I'll have to revisit my review. Friendly servers, fun atmosphere, laid-back vibe. A breath of fresh air if you're used to a little more Napa snootiness. It feels a little more like a Mendocino or Central Coast tasting room vibe, which is a GOOD thing. read more

What's up with the 3.5 star overall review? 5 stars all the way - why? We made reservations for a group of 20 of us. Instead of doing a set tasting time, we grabbed food from Oakville Grocery and reserved 2 picnic tables on their lawn in the back and enjoyed lunch, then started bottle service. Overall, just very accommodating - they made the day easy and enjoyable for us. We played bouche ball and ladder golf and soaked in the sun for the entire afternoon there. By the time we left we had killed 20 bottles but had a wonderful day out in the sun with friends. I'm not big on whites, but for a warm day in Napa you can't go wrong with the Napa Cellars Sauvignon Blanc - out of this world and only $18/bottle - WAHHHT? Skip the menaga blah blah stuff. If you're going with a group make sure to reserve a table outside. It's comparable to V Sattui without the major crowds (no food vendors on site) but perfect for a picnic. read more

My favorite wine is ménage a trois red blend. I was so so excited to visit this winery where it all starts. It's a really small and cute winery. They have a beautiful outdoor sitting area where you can buy a bottle of wine and drink on the picnic tables. Did some wine tasting here which is about $10 for 3 tastes but since we came with my friends who are Napa residents, we got a discount (most wineries offer this neighborhood discount). Our wine guy was super friendly and spent a lot of time with us. He took really good care of us and we all were very satisfied with our visit! read more
