Stopped there for lunch to break up a Montreal to Toronto drive. picked the restaurant by chanceas we always look to find 'independent' restaurants. We were greeted warmly. This restaurant is clean, simply decorated with a fairly extensive menu. We both ordered the Fish and Chips combo. I chose the Pickerel (which was the daily feature and is not a commonly available fish), andmy wife chose the Halibut. Both were deliciously breaded, flaky and not greasy at all. Home cut French Fries were served with the fish and a nice helping off Coleslaw. The slaw was not too sweet or acid, just right. Naturally good malt vinegar was on the table as the perfect seasoning of Fidh and Chips. For dessert I ordered a freshly made Strawberry Pie. The pie is prepared on site, that day, with fresh strawberries and topped with whipped cream. None of that "jellied goop" that you get when ordering a fruit pie in most restaurants....Thiswas the real thing...amazing! We look forward to eating there again on future road trips. read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon, a bit late for lunch (during COVID). There were a couple of other tables, but otherwise pretty empty. Ordered a Halibut with salad, and Captain's Seafood Platter (haddock with some other fried seafoods). Whole bottle of tartar sauce is brought to your table. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the food. The fried fish was great: crispy exterior, moist interior. The platter came with breaded and fried scallop, shrimp and clam, and these all tasted good. The portion size is huge. The salad was generously dressed, with some big flakes of cheese. The fries were good. Service was nice. The waitress which can come off a little snarky was still pleasant and helpful. Price was reasonable. read more

Have been going here for a few years and usually the food I'd as good as it gets, however tonight we were totally disappointed with the food. The fries were the worst I've ever had, brow and mushy and soaked with oil. The fish was not better soggy and laden with oil. I own 2 chip wagons and from experience the only thing that makes your food mushy and oily is that your too cheap or too lazy to change your oil. It's sad to see a business go from excellent to disgusting. Complained to the cook/ owner and he said that's the way the fish is and the fries were because of high sugar content / all a pile of BS. Just won't take responsibility for his poor business practices. Plus you should never argue with your customers, just listen and fix the problem. It was their 2 piece cod special which normally is full but werd only 2 other tables when the place should have been full. So sad for the sake of fresh oil. So needless to say we won't be returning to this restaurant again. We. Will go to The Fish &Chips restaurant in Belleville for excellent food and service. read more

Just not up to bigger city standards. Service was great. Bad ice tea. Oil hasn't been changed for fries. Fish needed flavor...like salt.

Very good fish and chips, the portion of the fish is large and very tasty. Light batter that doesn't over power the fish which is nice. The chips are also proper chip shop style. I used to frequent Napanee Fish and Chips often when I worked in the area. I have found the quality (and service) to have really gone down. I ordered a chicken finger meal; the portions of chicken were very small, and the batter was really hard and dark. The first batch (I sent back), had some dark, almost burnt spots, and when I spoke to the waitress about it, she just said 'oh, sorry' and started to walk away. I called her over again, sent the chicken back, and the next batch was hard and overcooked again- it may have been older oil, but terrible especially for the price. I had to go up to the front to get a refill on the beverage, even though the waitress/hostess walked by my glass sitting at the end of the table empty for over 5 minutes. The fries and coleslaw were good, but the owner came over when another patron made a comment about my dried up chicken pieces, asked what the problem was and when I told him the chicken batter was dry and over cooked, he said he would take it off my bill, then he took my plate right from under me (as I was eating the fries and coleslaw), along with the plate of chicken fingers, and tossed the bill holder on the table. I paid for the pop, and I won't be going back anytime soon. I used to be the biggest advocate for this place; not anymore. Customer satisfaction is extremely important, especially in a small town with a crazy amount of other restaurants. Whether you agree with the customer or not, take the criticism constructively and don't be a jerk about it. You lost a customer this week! read more

Our favourite go-to for fish'n'chips. Crispy fish with awesome batter and great fries. Tartar sauce in a squeeze bottle right on the table - no skimpy paper cuplets here! Some of the old-school ambiance is lost with the new location but the service is great. A friend spilled his beer on one occasion and they replaced it without hesitation - good, old-fashioned service. Skip the chain fast-food junk in the area if you're travelling on the 401, you won't be disappointed. read more

Had some friends visiting from Buffalo. We haven't eaten here before so we thought we would try it out! This is also the first time out to dinner since our son was born. We arrived and were seated instantly, which was awesome. The server brought us to a booth and asked if it was okay, it was great! As we went to sit down (we had our stroller with us as our son is only 3 months old) she proceeds to tell us that we would need to watch our stroller because it was in their only path. I'm not sure why you would seat us there than.. not to mention that she could has pushed the table away a bit to widen the path. I felt obligated to shove his car seat into the booth, which was super hard todo & I wasn't able to tend to him if needed (thankfully he was super well behaved). We ordered our meal. She arrived with food which wasn't ours, and then delivered to the correct table. Two people had ordered the halibut and chips, which was great. One person ordered salmon and said it was very salty. One person ordered chicken and said it was very dry. The last person ordered the steak & said the best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes. I personally think that $18.99 for a steak, mashed potatoes and frozen vegetables is a bit ridiculous.. then to charge another $1.50 for gravy. Once finished the meal, we went to pay with debit. The debit machine timed out on our friends and she seemed quite bothered by it.. then she proceed to pick his debit card off the table, take the machine out of his hand then put the card in, hand it back to him and say "you have to put the card in first, that's your first problem." I truly do not believed she earned the tip received but she made of point of saying that we were paying her wages for the night, so I felt obligated to leave her a tip. I don't think we will be returning and we won't be recommending this spot to eat when on Napanee. Very disappointed. The biggest turn off was our server Tammy. read more
