I was really looking forward to this restaurant during my birthday trip to Kingston. They have a Pride flag out front, which is a plus, very happy they support making everyone feel safe and welcome. I went on a Sunday night and there were a few tables but not overly busy. The food was very good. I'll say up front that the reason I'm deducting a star is because the time between getting my appetizer and main entree was more of a wait than I'd ever expect at a restaurant. Luckily, on this evening, I didn't have a tour or event to go to, so although it wasn't ideal, nothing catastrophic was cause by the wait, but it was still too long. I would say about 35-40 minutes after appetizer was finished. The drink thing is really starting to get on my nerve. $15 for a drink and now almost every restaurant puts then in a small glass. You don't get what you pay for. I ordered two drinks with being there so long and the 2nd was in a fancy margarita glass but it was nearly ALL ice. Not what I expected for fifteen bucks. The restaurant itself is cute. Has a very beachy vide and is on the water in downtown. There is outdoor seating too, if you're into that sort of thing lol. The booth I sat in was quite comfy. I ordered grilled Mexican street corn for the appie. Here, you get value. Two full cobs and it was delicious. The main course was two of the tacos. And like I said, that was an unbelievable wait for two little tacos. The taste of the food, however, was so good, they still get 4 stars from me. I had the shrimp and beef brisket tacos. And they had an all corn glute-free option. Always a plus with me. The tacos were really good and loaded. Lots of flavour. My server was Abbey, but lots of different people waited on me. The service was okay, but it was a good wait for another drink and for the main course. The appie came out fast. If they can speed up the food delivery and make those drinks worth the price tag, this place would be phenomenal. I am visiting Kingston again in October and will go back. The food did taste that good! Just don't go if you are on a time constraint.

Centrally located next to the city hall. Service is fast. Pros 1. Dishes were delicious. 2. We loved calamari's - lightly breaded. The fried pepper in it was surprisingly good and added to the multi dimension of flavors 3. Shrimp taco was good - a bit on the spicy side but with a good kick. 4. Fish tacos - yummy as well and very fresh. Consideration 1. It is centrally located in the tourist centric area - a bit on the pricy side. But dishes are great so worth the price - particularly after the currency conversion Recommended

This is actually a 7/10 for me. We arrived at 4pm in the afternoon looking for a late lunch, early supper. The restaurant was probably 1/3 full but the staff seemed to be running behind, but they were nice. We opted to sit indoors. The decor gave off fish shack vibes. We ordered the fish & chips and the brisket burger. The batter on the fish was so crispy and stayed crispy throughout my meal. The kind you could grate your fork over and hear the crispy sounds. The haddock was tasty and tender. I really liked the tartar sauce. As for the sides, the fries were also very crispy but had no taste. The coleslaw had some BBQ spices in it, which I found a bit weird. Don't know if it's inflation to blame but this is one expensive fish & chips at $24. The brisket burger was served in a tasty grilled bun. It only had one paper thin slice of green pickled tomato and was accompanied with the BBQ flavored coleslaw. The brisket was cut up into small pieces and smothered in sauce. Pretty tender and flavorful. The same tasteless fries were the only side since the slaw was inside the burger.

Great lunch spot in downtown Kingston. Menu is simple but has lots of options. Service is good and food comes out fast. Fish and chips were yummy- haddock was freshly fried, very crispy and not too salty. 2 pieces was a perfect serving. Fries are pretty good too, decently seasoned. I noticed a lot of locals eating here, I think this is a solid option if you're looking for food in the downtown area.

    Mexican Corn

Honestly, I was a little disappointed. Came for dinner on a weekend in August. It gets quite busy (with tourists) I think. The location is great, as it's right by the harbour. Ordered the Mexican Corn, a few different Tacos, and Lobster Roll. Not sure if their tortillas were just not my thing, but the tacos were mediocre. They're decently well dressed but not stand out in my opinion. My favourite thing was actually the Corn, which was tasty and fun. Service was great, the waitress was friendly. Price is on the high side, I guess because of the location.

This is unfortunately a zero-star rating, only because 'zero' is yet to be an option on Yelp. This was my first trip to Dianne's. The prices are on the high-side, but that was not the issue. Having been a Chief Marketing Officer for the better part of the last 20 years, I have a deep understanding of the connection between customer satisfaction and paying for the roof over my head. Based on their performance the staff and manager of Dianne's do not. It was a Monday evening, fairly crowded and we were greeted with, "We're short a bartender, so it may be a bit slow." We agreed to stay. My date and I each ordered the fish and chips, and a dozen oysters each, and glasses of wine. Then the wheels came off: 1. After about an hour the waitress brought us one order of oysters. When asked where the other one was, her response was, "Oh, I didn't realize you ordered two, would you like this one now?" A legit question, however we were there to eat together, so we opted to wait for the second dozen. That took about 40 minutes. In my customer service world, when the waitress messes up an order, rectifying it in a prompt manner is the correct course of action...getting put at the back of the kitchen queue is not. 2. We are now almost two hours and two glasses of wine in, having consumed the oysters and feeling very hungry. So then one order of fish and chips arrived. "Oh, I didn't realize you wanted two." Duh. So she walked away to have the kitchen , in the now almost empty restaurant, prepare the second order of fish and chips, leaving my date's order on the table to get cold. These two points are indicative of poor training, execution and attitude. We ordered more wine and espressos and paid the $310. I was about 20 minutes to closing time and the waitress said, "Take your time." So we did. At about 10 to nine, having paid the $310.52 bill, I requested another espresso for my date. The response from our waitress was, "I've closed the till for the night." Interesting yet irrelevant. It costs a restaurant under a dollar to make an espresso. In my world, a good restaurant has three choices: 1. Prepare it, reopen the till and bill me 2. Prepare it and I pay cash 3. Prepare it "On the house", in the context of $310.52, I'm thinking most establishments would opt for #3. Telling the customer to basically 'pound sand' is not on the table. My date's name is the same as the restaurant. She wanted a T-shirt. Again the answer was no. This is one of the most blatant errors by this team. A T-shirt, paid for by a customer, and worn by the customer in the location of the business amounts to advertising paid by someone else for a business - it doesn't get any better than that in the world of marketing. The cost of a T-shirt is under $5 when purchased in bulk through a premiums and incentives company. Again, option #3 would have been far better than the course of action they chose. So we left the restaurant. My date said that's crazy I want a T-shirt, so she went back in. The three staff, tall waitress, short waitress and presumably the cook (male) were seated at the bar. She stated that the waitress was 'terrible' and the entire 'service experience' was retarded. Look it up in the dictionary: in the context of an event it means slowed down and dysfunctional. She asked for the name of the waitress and was told 'no'. The cook jumped up and braced my date. I'm really not sure what he was planning to do but the aggressive attitude was in line with their complete disregard for the customer. The following day my date contacted management. The manager she spoke with was only focused on the use of the word 'retarded' as applied to the service (not to any individual). She attempted to re-victimize my date, rather than address the very real harm done to her by the terrible service and attitudes of the staff. In a company which values customers as the source of all revenue there is but one correct response: "Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will address it with my staff. I would like to get a complimentary T-shirt to you, if you would accept it, as a token of my appreciation." That's it, that's all. If that had been done, I would not have felt compelled to write this long a review in the negative. However after 45 years of helping serious companies make billions of dollars, this struck a nerve. There are other options in Kingston when you want to have a pleasant evening, I would not select Dianne's.

Delicious food, and service was great! It's located right by the harbour, so it's a great restaurant to go to after the 1000 Island boat cruise.

Love love love Dianne's! It has a pub feel to it, and the fish and chips were delicious. Thick, flaky haddock with a golden breading. The taco salad was also very good. Our server recommended a local gin (Earl Grey) for my wife, and it was so good, we made sure to bring a bottle back to the states. Service was spot-on -- not too much attention, but just enough to keep us satisfied. We were there mid-May, and things were just starting to open up for the season. There is patio seating, but the tables had not been set up just yet. But I can imagine a delightful time watching all the people stroll by. This section of town, right on the water, has a lot of historical sites and beautiful architecture, and it would have been great to take it all in on that patio. Hopefully the next time we visit (and there will be a next time), we can get there when it's open.

Pretty good, especially if you come on the right day. Came on a Monday as I was stopping by before heading to Toronto. There were a few tables seated but still plenty of space at around 12:30 pm. Given the downtown location parking can be tough at times but managed to find street spots a short walk away. My brother and I each got a fish taco to try as well as the Monday fish & chips special. The fish tacos (2 for $13) were the highlight as they were packed with toppings (cabbage, onions, salsa among others) and the fish was nice. As for the fish and chips, they were decently sized pieces but wish it was a bit crispier. Service was friendly and attentive. Will come back for their specials if I have the chance!

Headed east to Kingston a few weekends ago and went for dinner at a patio for the first time in a year! The salad and mussels were delicious. I personally prefer hard-shelled tacos, but these tacos were great. The fish was fresh and soo delicious. The service was excellent and they were quick to serve. They also gave really good recommendations! I don't usually comment on the salad since it was just a regular Caesar salad, but I loved it and it tasted great with the bacon and cheese toppings!

Stopped for here for lunch while driving from Montreal to Toronto. We got a table inside right away. We had: Mussels in green curry sauce Soup & sandwich (hubby got hailbut & loved it!) Two taco lunch special with salad (got the fish & the jackfruit) Shrimp Po boy sandwich Rolls and butter were provided and they were delicious!! I wasn't planning to eat the bread that came with the mussels but once I tried it, I couldn't stop eating it!! I dipped it in the curry sauce and it was perfection!! Hubby said that the fish sandwich was the best he has ever had! That says a lot because he has eaten quite a few!! Happy that we came here.

Lobster roll, fish tacos, chicken tacos
    Carlo F.

Very impressed with the food and the service here! We ordered the lobster rolls and four tacos which was plenty for two people. Lobster roll, fish tacos, and chicken tacos were delicious! Our server was very friendly and provided excellent recommendations. Sat on the patio which was heated.

this cost $25. It was cold, greasy and the portion so small I had to cook another meal because I was still hungry! AND THERE WERE NO CHIPS!!

AVOID AVOID Not Good?? Try minus 5 stars, no minus 10 stars!!! Horrible, awful, cold, greasy, the smallest serving of fish and "chips" I've ever seen. I just received my delivery from this "restaurant" and to say it's a waste of money doesn't begin to cover the dissatisfaction over this order. I ordered the fish and chips for $25. When ordering on Skip you have to choose a side. Because I was foolish enough to think the "chips" were a second portion I chose the salad greens. I didn't get chips! What kind of foolishness is this? The tiny little fish portions were swimming in grease~it took four p-towels to mop up most of it. The salad was absolutely not fresh! The coleslaw in the tiniest container I've ever seen was old and tasteless. How does this place get away with this? I called and was told that it's Skips fault. Now Skip leaves a LOT to be desired, but how is it their fault you don't know fish n' chips INCLUDES CHIPS? NEVER, EVER AGAIN! I was still hungry and wound up having to cook another meal! NOT having to cook was the entire idea behind ordering delivery. Awful. Just awful.

While it is located in a 1800s-era building, the "saltbox" in its name actually refers to its method of curing more than 15 varieties of bacon, one of the specialties of the establishment at 6152 Barclay Road in Sodus, the former home to the Heluva Good! Country Store. The deli/restaurant is a dream fulfilled for the husband-and-wife team of James and Sara Wheaton. The pair enjoyed spending time together in the kitchen and started cooking for large events such as her sister's wedding. With supporters encouraging them to take their cuisine to the next level, they hunted for a place to house a restaurant for more than a year. Finally, the building off Route 104 struck a chord. The eatery serves as both deli and restaurant. Cured and smoked meats, such as bacon, smoked turkey, pastrami and pork loin, can be ordered on their own from the counter. Bacon comes in 15 flavors including apple bourbon, garlic, maple and horseradish. My wife and I recently stopped into the Saltbox on a whim while in the area, after passing the sign for them many times in between trips to Rochester. Small building, and there were already a couple customers there at right around noon on a Saturday. You order at the counter, then sit at one of the 6-8 tables they have in the nicely renovated building, and they bring you your food. They have daily specials, and this days were burnt ends. We both ordered sandwiches - my wife ordered the "On Top of Old Smokey", a sandwich with smoked cheesy meatballs on a sub roll, with a spicy tomato sauce and provolone, served with chips, and I went with the Steakhouse Sandwich, a sandwich filled with brisket, bacon, spicy pickles, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a roll, and I swapped out the chips for a side of bacon mac and cheese for an upcharge. We also got a 1/4 lb of the burnt ends to try. The dining area filled up quickly, but our food was brought pretty quickly. We really enjoyed our sandwiches, especially the meatballs which had a great flavor. The mac and cheese was bland, but I have yet to find good mac and cheese at a restaurant in CNY. But the star were the burnt ends - absolutely bursting with flavor, straight up meat candy. Wife and I could've made a meal just outta those. The price is comparable to other BBQ places. The service was fine - employees weren't exactly enthused to be there. No one was rude or anything, but we almost got the feeling we were being bothersome to them, but could've been an off day. We would definitely go back to try other stuff, or just for them burnt ends.
