In my appointments, she regularly teaches her team and clearly nerds out about it. You want a professional who cares about their craft. I've had dentists who pushed night guards, and other add on services. Now I'm sure each had positive therapeutic benefits. But I also know many of these things are 80%+ profit margins. Dr. Spencer proactively tailored her dentistry to save money and even removed a service that was on my invoice that didn't need to be there. I have been trying to get ahold of them since September 8th for an estimate and appointments. NOONE answers the phone and they do not return phone calls. I am so disillusioned. During a deep cleaning in March 2024, one of my molars fractured. In September 2024, Dr. LaVacca placed a temporary crown on it. He recommended removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant because he wasn't sure how far the fracture extended. I told him I did not want the tooth removed and reminded him that he had promised to provide a crown for free. At my request, he agreed and scheduled an appointment for the crown. Before moving forward, I wanted a second opinion. I visited Dr. K, an out-of-town dentist, who confirmed that placing a crown would be fine for the molar. I explained to Dr. K that since Dr. LaVacca had agreed to do the crown for free, I would return to him, but I valued his professional opinion. On November 5th, I went back to Dr. LaVacca's office for the crown. He didn't seem happy to be working for free, but he completed the procedure. To my shock, within two days, the crown became loose, and I could no longer use the tooth. I went back to Dr. K, who told me that before the crown the root was fine, but afterward, the fracture had worsened. He showed me an X-ray confirming that the root was now damaged, leaving me no choice but to have the tooth removed. I cannot say for sure if the crown caused the fracture to worsen, but because of this experience, I decided not to return to Dr. LaVacca's office. If you are considering this place, I want to share my advice: don't simply follow what one doctor recommends. For example, if they suggest an implant, take time to think it over and strongly consider getting a second opinion. read more

My family and I have been patients of both Naperville Dental Specialists and Innovative Orthodontic Center since they first opened. I have nothing negative to say about the dentists, hygienists, or clinical staff--they have always been professional and competent. Unfortunately, over the past several months, the administrative staff--those handling phone calls, billing, promotions, and customer service--have shown a consistent lack of professionalism, knowledge, and honesty. This ongoing issue is the sole reason my family and I are leaving the practice. One example involves my daughter's wisdom teeth consultation. When I scheduled the appointment, I was informed there would be a $75 consultation fee and that insurance coverage would be reviewed before the appointment. That never happened. After paying the fee and meeting with the oral surgeon, the staff member who checked me out was unable to explain insurance coverage and told me the extraction would cost $2,000 out of pocket. I later contacted my insurance company myself and learned that a pre-authorization referral was required for coverage. When I relayed this information to the office, the same staff member had no understanding of the process and told me she would "look into it." I never received a call back. Had this information been communicated upfront, I would not have wasted time or money on the consultation. Another example involves my daughter's Invisalign consultation. We were verbally told the treatment would last 6-10 months, yet the written estimate reflected an 18-month treatment plan costing $5,300. A few days later, I received a text advertising a promotion of up to $1,200 off Invisalign. When I asked how this applied to my daughter's plan, I was told the promotional price was still $5,300--the exact same amount previously quoted. I was then told that Invisalign determines pricing and that her plan was actually over $7,000, and the promotion brought it down to $5,300. This information directly contradicted the original estimate. I spoke with multiple staff members and received different, inconsistent explanations each time, none of which made sense. The repeated lack of transparency, follow-up, and basic customer service from the administrative staff has become unacceptable. You mainly see hygienists here who do all the cleaning and x rays, and call a dentist in if they spot anything. I think the hygienists are good. However, they have a very high turnover rate at this business, and it has been my experience you are unlikely to see the same one on your twice a year visits. Their billing and front office are very poor. They don't return phone calls. I was over billed for my last visit. Badly over billed, according to my insurance.Calling them on the phone to fix this went nowhere. They would not return my calls. I finally met there in person with their billing head, Ashly. She agreed they over billed me and would refund the excess charges. Never happened. I left messages and emails to no avail. So I sent emails to the head man here, Dr Lavacca . He did not respond to the 2 emails I sent. I have also received bills from this place months after my visits and they always seem to manufacture new BS charges. Beware, and don't pay anything until your insurance has processed your visit. NDS always tries to get $ from you before you walk out the door. Recently moved to the area. Had a cleaning and crown done just before Christmas 2023. Trying to schedule my next cleaning and also a cleaning for my child and can't get thru to them. I've left a number of voicemails at different times of day and no response. Seeing lots of other similar posts so it looks to be time to find a new provider. If I could I would give them 0 stars. I'm honestly not even sure if I'm in a situation where you should sue. If you want to go to a practice where they don't pick up the phone, they make false promises while NOT listening to patients WHATSOEVER, come here. My doc did an implant- it failed. Then I learn he has a rotator cuff issue - did that contribute to the failure? Anyway I decide to give grace. He says he'll try to set me up with a temp since I'll have to wait for him to recover from his surgery before I can be taken care of. He makes a big deal out of texting the scheduler to get me set up and says to follow up the next day. I come and guess what, the scheduler knows nothing (she says "what message, I didn't get anything" only to later realize he messaged her on teams) but promises they'll figure it out on the back end. No one picks up the phone for WEEKS. Then I come in for a consult and the scheduler says the dentist will call me Monday. Surprise surprise, he forgets and she admits that when I show up in person on Wednesday. I let her know I'm disappointed and 10 min later, the Dr says come back in a hr so he can do it. I cancel my plans and come back only to wait 20min and then have him tell me he can't do it in time. Why call me back? Why waste more of my time? Is it my fault that he has surgery. I paid him for services and he promised to help with a temporary tooth before the event. Is it my fault for not being ok with being ignored and falling through the cracks. I'm so sad that I'm stuck here. I have already invested so much that I can't go anywhere else. This is how they get you. read more

My consensus reading other reviews: 5 star reviews are generally for easy, single visit procedures, and anything that requires more multiple appointments and invoices have had issues resulting in low reviews. Definitely ask for invoices and copies of any paperwork you sign; you may want to double check everything. I've recieved statements with inconsistent charges, been requested to pay $1000 up front for a procedure that was covered by insurance and never refunded that money after insurance paid, and now they are not calling back despite many calls and voice messages asking to schedule an appointment. Lacks integrity and responsibility when things get difficult or out of their expected workload. Shady business and billing, possibly to the point of fraud. I don't recommend going here for any difficult procedures because if anything goes wrong, they don't own up to it and are eager to push you out. I'm left to constantly call them with no responses. It's both frustrating and insulting. I do not wish this upon anyone. I honestly recommend if you're going to come here to be assertive and watchful or you might just get screwed over. read more

Returning to this clinic for the second time, my daughters were excited to arrive and said, "yeah, dentist." The person next to me said, haven't heard that line before and neither have I! My past dentist trips form memory weren't horrible but I was never enthusiastic. But this place with a great comfortable waiting lounge, free fast wifi, excellent kids corner, beautiful rooms to di the checkups, and really gentle, friendly and professional dentists! Only down side is there might be a long waitlist so book early. read more

If you call to get help, they will dump you into a voicemail box and nobody calls back. The dental hygienists are fantastic even though they are temps. However, in the past year there seems to be a constant issue with overcharging on services. Specifically, relabeling the actual service received as something that will collect more from the dental insurance company. When we try to resolve the discrepancies, we get flippant responses from phone representatives. One even told us she would send the bill to collections if we don't pay the erroneous amount. We have been going there for years receiving the same exact services and lately, these folks are overcharging the insurance companies. I broke a tooth on my denture, this was not the first time it happened, I went back to Dental Specialists for a fix. The last time I had this done they sent me to the dental lab in Bolingbrook and charged me $90. Yesterday I did the same thing, they looked at the missing tooth and called the lab. No examination, just a phone call to the lab. I spent about a total of 15 to 20 minutes at Naperville Dental and they charged me $420. The positive was they got me right in, the negative was all they did was make a phone call. I drove to Bolingbrook, dropped off the broken denture and drove back to pick it up. I'm happy I was able to get the fix the same day but feel the charge was excessive. read more

I wasn't even going to leave a review as this place is no longer worthy of my time. But after getting 3 emails demanding I leave a review fine. My last visit was the last straw. Every staff member is very rude and mean. The check in staff snapped at me for not having my insurance card. Even though it's the same program I have had for years and they already have it on file. The hygienist was rude and mean and made me feel guilty just for being there via all kind of lovely rude remarks about my teeth. Yet the dentist concluded there are no significant issues. I then had to stare at the walls for 20 minutes waiting for the dentist who spent all of 45 seconds looking at my teeth. The check out staff member demanded money out of me and wouldn't even show me the bill or what was due for what services. Street collector agent style. They then got very huffy when I refused to pay until my insurance can at least see the bill. Then as I left the check out staff member mumbled a name I can't even type on yelp as I was walking out. If I could give them zero stars I would. My family has been with this practice for over 10 years and today was the absolute last strike with your practice. The first strike was about 4 years ago when we were looking into getting braces for my son. I felt deceived because after speaking with my insurance company about coverage and sitting with their office, my estimated charges appeared extremely high. And even after expressing this to their office at our consultation and twice over the phone no one explained that the acceledent was included in the pricing and was not covered by insurance until I kept pressing the issue. Since these hidden charges were included and not disclosed it had me wondering if hidden charges had been included in the past and we hadn't noticed. So we received orthodontia care elsewhere but continued to see the practice for general dentistry. Things never seemed the same after the office was remodeled. I felt as though prices increased and the patients took on the burden of the remodel cost with inflated pricing. We left the practice for about a year but returned because my son and husband were comfortable and used to their office. Going to the dentist can be unnerving and when you find somewhere that you are comfortable with...I guess we tolerated more than usual. My son is 16 and has been with the office since the age of 4 or 5. Against my better judgement we returned recently. While at the office a patient was paying her balance prior to her services and I overheard the receptionist tell her that she could pay a portion of the balance and the rest later. Today my husband came to the office for services (which he was actually reluctant to get but was told that it was best). He asked if he could pay a portion now and a portion later, he was told no. He asked the receptionist about the client from the previous week that I witnessed get offered that same option. After they checked the calendar to see who was in the office when I checked out he was told that it was because she was receiving different services. His bill was larger then the lady from the week prior but we were not offered that option. Why? I have very good insurance (two insurances) that have been paying your office for over a decade but obviously our business is not valued here. There is only one difference between my husband and the client from the previous week and that is the color of their skin. I will not tolerate the discrimination, inconsistency and lack of integrity from this office. If you enjoy being treated like just another number and a dollar sign. Odd charges appear on bills regularly for things that were t done like fluoride treatments and unspecified preventative procedure charges show up on bills regularly. Now only open 8-4 M-F! I've got to admit, I'm a bit torn about this dentist. My first appointment/cleaning was great. Unfortunately, a filling fell out during the cleaning process (it happens) and it was decided I needed a crown to replace it. The tooth next to it had been chipped 8 years ago, so I figured as long as we were doing 1 crown it would be good to get them both done at the same time. WRONG. The dentist whom did the prep work for the crowns was pregnant and due in the near future. She put a rush on my crowns so she could deliver them - I sensed some ownership, which I liked. Her baby came early, so a different dentist had to deliver the crowns. I had never had a crown before, but it seemed like the process was not going well and there was a lot of adjusting that needed to happen. I was told the mouth should return to normal soon, but that there should really be no pain within a day or two. Well, I lived in pain for over 2 months. I went back for a few adjustments - a third dentist had now taken over my case. He believed it was possible I may need a root canal for one tooth, but said statistically it would be very unlikely both teeth would need it. Turns out both teeth needed root canals. Nothing like having holes drilled in your new crowns. Even the outside dentist whom performed the root canal was surprised both teeth needed root canals. We did them 3 weeks apart to ensure there was no sympathy pain. I went back to Naperville Dental to have my new crowns (now with holes in them) filled and had a 4th dentist assigned. 4 different dentists involved during this process was a bit annoying. I'll argue it attributed to the problem. When multiple dentists (including those in your office) say it's odd that two teeth would need root canals after a crown, then something is wrong. read more

I absolutely love Naperville Dental Specialists. I have been coming for regular cleanings for 2 years and love the women who cleans my teeth(wish I wasn't so bad with names). They are always on time and you never wait for more than a couple minutes before going to your cleaning. They even give you a nice warm wrap for your neck to get you relaxed. The Doctors are not intimidating and are very friendly and informative. I went in for a really painful soar in my mouth and Dr. Irene Pisareva was incredibly empathetic and caring. She treated me and within hours the pain was gone. I revicived a wisdom tooth extraction and Dr. John Chea, was absolutely great. I was very nervous and he eased my nerves and the whole process was very quick. He also followed up with me after my visit to see how I was doing. This to me is exceptional care, that you just do not get at other dentist offices. I am someone who dreaded going to the dentist for most of my life and had some bad dental experiences. I've been taking my kids here for almost 2 years. My son had a nasty fall and ended up chipping 2 teeth and loosing a front tooth. This was so traumatic for him and myself as well. But the entire staff was so kind, patient and professional. That really eased a pretty stressful process. I still take my little ones here for their 6 month check ups. Both of mine are finally old enough to go into the appointments by themselves while I wait in the waiting room. They do this starting at 3 years to sort of ease the fear with kids and create a rapport between the kids and the dentist. The hygienists and front desk staff give little reports about how the little ones are doing and were sensitive to my sons speech delay. The waiting room is ultra comfortable. It's more like a fancy living room than a doctors office. Recent magazines, Keurig coffee machine, toys and books for kids, and newer movies on the flat screen help to put everyone at ease. I really wish I could get an appointment here, but they are booked solid. With the caliber of service they give, I'm not the least bit surprised. read more

This place is amazing. I have never have to wait for my cleanings and they must pride themselves on being on time. Very clean inside and staff is friendly and remembers my name each time I go (which is only twice a year but still).... I mostly like the professionalism that Dr. Lavacca has with me as I started with them years ago and he has had to "clean up" my previous dentists crown replacements but more importantly in 6 years no real issues have come up under their care besides a cavity. I saw Dr. LaVacca after he was recommended by a few friends and family members but had a HORRIBLE experience. Originally contacted their offices for a dental implant in December 2017, had the initial consultation and first step of the implant procedure done only to go back and forth for nearly a year with their inept billing department who could not figure out how to file a claim with a primary and secondary dental insurance (literally their job). After many calls and emails and finally requesting multiple copies of the bill, I found they charged me for services they did not actually perform and when I asked for clarification regarding this, was never given an answer only more "past due" bill notices. I finally went to see a new Prosthodontist only to learn that my temporary crown was cemented to the post by Dr Lavacca and impossible to get off without drilling through the cement and tooth making it impossible to create a new permanent tooth without additional dental procedures. It has been nearly 2 years of constant anxiety and financial stress with no explanation from this office. Please learn from my mistake and beware of this dental practice! read more

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. I've been going here for years, but am now leaving. They started so well, but have now gone downhill. The first few times I visited, I was seated in large open areas with natural lighting and a hot towel around my neck, now I am always shoved into some small dark back room with harsh florescent lighting somewhere in the bowels of the office. It seems like this place has turned into the Jiffy Lube of dentistry. Large turnover in dentists, technicians and hygienists. I used to have a favorite dentist I saw, but now it's a different dentist every time I go. The newer dentists are now impatient with your pesky questions and you will wait a looooong time just to 'check out'. They have begun to be very condescending, most likely because things are getting worse here. Beautiful facilities but it is a large business and you are just a bill. Don't even get me started on billing, just read some of the other reviews here about details on that nightmare. It is no longer about the customer, it is about how much money they can make with the least amount of personnel cost. My wife and I continually experienced them over prescribing treatments. The last one was the capper for me, a young dentist after looking in my mouth less than 20s said I needed a filling. I was suspicious based on not having needed a filling in nearly 20 years and some things the assistant had said. I declined the work and he said I better watch out for a root canal. I've since left NDS and my new dentist looked thoroughly through my mouth, did x-rays and said she has no idea what he was talking about. After a mix up with my last appointment I had to be rescheduled for a tooth extraction. At least that's what I thought. When I got there there was another apparent mix up and I wasn't scheduled for what I was told I was scheduled for so I was going to have to make another appointment! When I expressed my concern with the staff member and general surgeon that I had repeatedly been given the wrong information the general surgeon proceeded to tell me off. He said "my front desk staff aren't doctors...I am" to which i told him the last doctor is the one that told me this and they should still make sure the staff is properly informed to give patients the correct info. To which he replied "we have over 80 staff members here so we'll do our best but..." I could not believe how smug and rude he was!
