My wife and have lived in our house for 20 years & decided that it was time for a new roof. We had quotes from 3 different companies. The first company spent (wasted) almost 3 hours at the house then dropped a ridiculous quote on us. I honestly felt like they were trying to sell us a time share with their hard sell tactics and buddy/buddy attitude towards us. The second company was better. The rep was here for around two hours and wasn't as obnoxious as the ones from the first company. The prices were better but still pretty high for what we were having done. Napier's was our third quote. My wife and I were around 10 min late meeting the rep at our house. While waiting for us, he went up on the roof, checked everything out, measured everything out, and had the quote ready. He spent maybe 15 minutes going through everything and the quote was around $4k less than the next cheapest quote we'd received. We appreciated his no nonsense, no BS approach and signed on the spot! The new roof was installed the following week while we were at work & we couldn't be happier with how it turned out! They did a fantastic job on both install and cleanup. My neighbor even commented on how impressed she was that they came into her yard to clean up, too! If you're looking for a no nonsense, honest company for a roof, do yourself a favor and contact Napier's first. My house was in desperate need of new siding and gutters, so I did some searching on Yelp and saw Napier's Home Improvement had great reviews. I gave them a call and I'm very glad I did. Dan, his sons, and their crew were all extremely professional, courteous, clean, and thorough. The work was done within the week and I'm very satisfied with it. Dan came out afterward a couple of times to make sure all issues were taken care of. There had been some complications because of old, water-damaged wood in my bay window; in the process of adding new wood to support the window, there was some damage on the inside of the house. This was not the crew's fault. The window was in bad shape, and from outside they had no way to see that the new wood had poked into the living room through the wall. I found the damage when I got home from work and called Dan to see what to do about it. He told me "don't worry, I'll get my wall guy here to fix that right up." And he sure did. Looks good as new now. I'll be writing a review for his wall guy soon, too. I asked Dan a question regarding how I could re-hang my porch lights in the front and back, given the new wall boxes they had installed. He said "no problem, I'll get my guy out here to get those taken care of." And guess what... he had an electrician out the next morning, which was Sunday. By the time I got home from church, I had working lights again. I need to write a review for the electrician, too. The workers were professional, knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy their work. Each worker had his own role and efficiently worked with his co-workers. I couldn't be happier with this company. They came out and gave a estimate. I contacted them a couple months later, thinking I'd probably have to wait to get the work done. Called me that night and asked if they could squeeze me in the next day. They showed up on time, were professional. When the job was done I received 28 pics of the work done along with a detailed text message from Aaron. The job site was cleaned up (they even put our Christmas decorations back up). Dan came out to give me an estimate on trim and gutters for our house and siding, gutters and to enclose an old screened porch on our garage. Plus installed a new service door. They were able to start in a week. John, Jacob, and Randy started right in tearing the old stuff off and installing the new. Worked all day until dark. Back at it the next day and finished up their part that evening. Next morning, Dan and Jon came and formed new seamless gutters and hung them on the house and garage. Unexpectedly needed new roof! Decided to get three estimates, one of them Napier's. First salesman from another company promised me the moon, said his was the best price I would get in the area ($12,000!!) High-pressured me to sign contract immediately when I was still in estimate stage. How did he look at my roof? From a satellite picture!! Second salesman came with a measuring wheel, more reasonable price but again the high pressure to sign a contract. He told me it would inconvenience him if he had to come back! But then Dan Napier came to the rescue! Save your time and money and go directly to Napier! He immediately climbed up on the roof himself, saw the bad shingles and also discovered a gaping opening all around the chimney that went right thru to the attic! Neither of the other salesmen had a clue or took the time to actually look at the roof. Mr. Napier sent one of his crew out immediately to tarp bad area and caulk opening. And he was way under that supposed "best price" of first salesman. Napier's was the best price and the kind of integrity, service, honesty and personal touch that I didn't think existed in business any more. Absolutely phenomenal! Had them come out to give me a quote on a new roof. All was good signed the contract for $8890 roof was to be done the week of 6/29. They called last night to do the roof today 7/1/20. Great they show up right before 8 am they start unloading there supplies. My boyfriend was out side asking if anything needed to be moved. Next thing we know they are packing up there stuff and said my deposit will be mailed back to me. They said my boyfriend had an attitude. And they left. This company was highly recommended to me. I hired them to replace my roof last fall. I needed a complete tear-off. This experience was one of the best I've had with a contractor. The owner wrote on the contract everything I asked him to (so I'd have it in writing). The price might have been a bit high but in the past, I've gotten a few estimates and have learned that you get what you pay for and trusted them because so many homes in my neighborhood have hired them. They did an excellent job, all very professional. Covered everything up so windows, etc. wouldn't be damaged. I was very impressed (and I'm hard to impress). The price was more than I thought it would be, but I realize lumber, labor, everything is higher these days. Everything I asked for, I got (even the supervisor on site that I asked for). Was completed in one day before the sun went down, put everything back in place as I asked. I had put this off for longer than I should have as I just hated the thought of having it done, having been ripped off before. This went well and so far, so good. read more

This is what I look for in a company before I make my contractor selection: Integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Quality: a high level of value or excellence for work performed and completed. Reputable: employed widely or sanctioned by good writers and recommendations. Experience: the length of time that the contractor has spent doing their profession. Cost Efficient: being effective without wasting time or effort or expense (affordability). We have had many contractors at our house over the past 10+ years that we have been living there. When we needed a roofing project to be performed on our property, we reviewed the contractors in the local area. Some were priced so high that they seemed to be more concerned in profit and appearance versus the customer economical situation (affordability). Some were below the cost expectation that I thought the project would cost, but the reputation and quality of work of those companies were less that credible. I researched, then interviewed Napier's. The estimator made an effort to know me as a person 1st, then assessed our roofing situation. He spoke to me in language that was not over my head; language that was relate-able and easy to comprehend. He explained the timeline required to start, process and complete our project. When he had finished speaking, he had made sure that I understood the scope of to be work preformed. I could tell by the way he worked, spoke and understood our financial situation that he had the experience, integrity and pride in the quality of work they preform that I heavily weigh in my selection for a contractor. The cost for the project very affordable. After they completed our project, they understood that we have a daughter and small dog. I state this because they made a very concentrated effort to make sure that every nail, roofing debris, wood scraps and debris was cleaned up on our entire property. This is very important, because I have seen other contractor roofing jobs in our neighbor hood where my neighbors are still finding nails and debris months/years later. Napier's was the perfect contractor for our job and I believe that they are the perfect contractor for the person that is reading my review. read more

The owner of this business walked away from an estimate because he didn't like what I said. I suffered wind damage to half of my roof in September, and had an insurance adjuster provide an estimate for repairs. The insurance has authorized replacement of approximately half the roof, and has very clearly delineated what materials are to be used. Their instructions are to share this information with the contractor, which is what I tried to do with Mr. Napier. He only took a cursory glance at the document, completely ignoring the sketch and measurements made by the adjuster. Then he and his son went up on the roof and made 2 measurements of their own -- the length and depth of the side of the roof that was not damaged. That side is planar, whereas the side with damage has a gable cut in and another portion over an entry. Their total time on the roof was approximately 2 minutes. Based upon this single measurement of the simple, undamaged side, he showed me with an estimate that was nearly 3 times the amount my insurance will cover. He flatly stated that the whole roof needs to be replaced, despite what I'd received authorization for. Furthermore, his quote included architectural shingles, whereas my insurance only covers 3-tab shingles. Also, the quoted architectural shingles were rated at a longer lifetime than what the insurance specified, which also translates into additional cost. If he had bothered to look at the document I tried to show him, he would have seen these issues. When I pointed them out, he said 'They're only $2 more per bundle.' I commented that, if it's not that big a deal, then perhaps HE could cover the cost. Rather than suggesting that this is an area where we might find compromise, he was highly insulted and ran away in a huff. He would have no part of continued dialog, telling me, and I quote, verbatim: "If you can't afford the house, sell it." I again mentioned the 3-tab shingle stipulation from the insurance company, and he said: "I don't care about your insurance. Sell the house." My guess is, if you just point to your house and say "Sell me what you think I need", and then nod your head meekly at whatever he says, you may get somewhere. I hate that there is insurance involved, because I don't know how to effectively deal with the confusing legal and contract language. But it is, and I'm bound by restrictions on what I can and can't do. And Mr. Napier doesn't seem to care enough to try to work within my constraints or to help me find resolution. read more

After an mostly positive initial consultation with Dan Napier, the owner, we had set an appointment to go over the details of the job, scheduling and to give him a Deposit to start the job. My wife and I sat and waited for him and he finally showed up 35 minutes late. I asked him if we had a schedule mis-match when I greeted him at my door and he just grumbled a bit and said he was late. I told him in the kitchen that we had been waiting on him as we both needed to get back to work, and that he should have called me to set expectations and he got very angry, grabbed the quote off of our kitchen table, and yelled on his way out my door "Its not a perfect world" to which I yelled back to him "This is true but you're not doing your part to make it at least a more courteous one!" He then stormed out of my house, jumped in his little truck and did a quasi-anemic burnout down the street. A few things ran through my mind all at once and some of them were: 0) I am the customer and I am paying him. I expect people I am paying to be both punctual as well as courteous. 1) All he needed to do was apologize for being late and it would have been fine. 2) Thank god this happened now rather than later because if this is how he behaves when someone is about to give him $9,000, I cant imagine how he would behave if there was a problem with the roof down the road. 3) What a ------------- (fill in with your own word/s). I was a little in shock so I called his office and asked the person that answered the phone why Dan treated his potential clients that way and why he would take a $9000 sale and throw it away and his office person said to me that "Your $9000 dollar job isn't ___ to us." So there you have it. With so many other companies out there competing for the same share of business, it should be pretty easy for anyone in the Detroit metro to find a co-operative, honest, roofing company that does a quality job, knows the value of being punctual, and provides decent customer service for a reasonable price. Drawing from my personal experience with the owner, Napiers Home Improvement does not offer any of that. Buyer Beware. read more

Napier replaced my roof a couple of years ago and the down spouts, gutters. My neighbor ran over a down spout recently. I contacted Napier to get the piece of down spout that was damaged replaced. A pretty small repair, but they came out the next day and did it as a warranty job. The roof job was superior, and my little bungalow got a beautiful face lift. I would recommend Napier to anyone...it is so great to find a company that still values high quality workmanship, doesn't try to oversell and keeps their word as their bond! Thank God I called this company for a quote!! I almost didn't because I already had 4 other quotes and I thought I had found a good company. Tallon construction wanted $13128.00 for my roof replacemt. Hansons was a complete joke and wasted about 3 hours of my time while the salesman had to call his boss 3 times before he could leave. Kroll construction was $12,000+ and I happened to see a crew working for them near my house and most of the crew looked as if they probable did not have papers to work in the U.S. legally. I tried talking to them and they could barely speak english. Had 1 other estimate but can't find their bid. Dan the owner from Napier gave me a quote of $7,900.00 and they had an AWESOME crew install my roof in about 6 hours. All spoke english very well and were polite. They cleaned up my yard beautifully. They arrived on time and covered all my bushes and windows so they did not get damaged. One of the things I liked best was Mr. Napier who has been in business since 1986, so gave me a booklet of 25,000 roofs they had done in the metro area so we could look at the different shingles on homes near my house and contact the homeowners about if they liked the job Napiers did. I talked to 2 different home owners and they were very satisfied as am I!!!! Floyd one of the Napier sons directed the crew at my house and he was very down to earth and seemed like a great boss to work for. Napier's replaced our roof on March 21,2016. Their work and professionalism was A++ from their initial quote to pulling away when the job was complete. Their quote is their bottom price. No inflated price and then calling the office to see if they can lower it, like others. Their price was $4,000.00 lower than other companies I had quotes from. Floyd, the person who gave us the quote, was a no pressure salesman. He arrived with everything you should ask for, insurance, license and a thick booklet that had their past jobs they performed listed by city, addresses and color of shingles they installed. We were able to pick multiple homes, not a house or two, to see what the different shingles looked like on different color houses. And there were so many we were able to stay in our neighborhood without having to travel to other cities. On the day of the job the crew of 10 to 12 people arrived at 8:00am. They had a dumpster truck with normal rubber tires, no metal wheels, to protect the driveway. The only time anyone on the crew stood around was at lunch. Prior to leaving the crew did two perimeter sweeps to check for scraps and nails. Actually, the yard looked better when they left than when they arrived because looking for any debris they raked up leaves around the house perimeter. Obviously, I would recommend Napier's to anyone that wants a top notch job for a top notch price. read more

My husband planned on using Napier for a new roof. He called and set up an appointment to have a guy come out to give us a quote on Monday between 4 and 5. My husband took off work an hour early to make sure that he was home in time. When he arrived home at 3:30pm, there was a packet in the door with a quote. He had specifics that he wanted to discuss with the estimator and yet the person couldn't be bothered to show up for the appointment at the scheduled time. We have decided to go with another company with an identical quote because Big Ike's took the time to meet with us rather than just dropping a packet in the door several hours before the schedule appointment. The main reason I picked Napier to quote on my project was that I remember this company from when I was a kid growing up in Allen Park over 30 years ago. After contacting the company, I was very impressed with the owner, who came to our house to provide a quote for a shingle replacement. He was very thorough and gave us the best price by far for the replacement. His son actually leads the crew and did a fantastic job. Afterwards, the owner followed up and I had found that my back door screen was accidentally torn from the wood that was put in place to protect it. He immediately sent somebody out to fix it. Just ask the owner for a list of references and he will provide you with a book that contains people from all over the metro area including your neighbors.This company is honest, has fair prices, and provides the expected service that you would expect. read more
