Who still does this in this modern age!?? I understand when this is done in super hole-in-the-wall restaurants where prices are kept very low. I thankfully read the reviews in advance and learned about the surprise "non-cash adjustment" fee, so I came prepared, but this was troubling. I liked the booth seating in the restaurant and the cozy vibes. The food was mixed. They gave us complimentary garlic bread, which was pretty good. I opted for the chicken fettuccine alfredo, and my friend got the linguine primavera, which is vegetarian. I added a "small salad" for $1 as it seemed appealing, but it was a big mistake. I described the salad to my friend as "gross" (not a word I like to write in reviews, but it so accurately describes my thoughts). It was an assortment of lettuce and some other unknown vegetables absolutely bathed in vinaigrette. Like, half the bowl was just vinaigrette soup. We started off with complementary Garlic Bread which was hot and delicious! We ordered appetizers and they came out fast. We had: Meatball Casserole with Marinara Sauce and Grated Mozzarella. Garlic Bread with Marinara Sauce for dipping. Both were served hot and fresh. We had a 16" Cheese Pizza with Canadian Bacon, Pepperoni, Sausage, and Black Olives. Was hot and delicious! Had a great Cheese Pull! We also had the Pasta Combo - Stuffed Shell, Manicotti, and Lasagna. The lasagna was good and flavorful. The other pastas were good but needed a little more flavor. I've been here 2 times. Both were disappointing. The ambiance is outdated and dingy. The menu is the usual low quality Italian chain offerings. Pink sauces and risotto that's possibly instant white rice- definitely not actual risotto. The salmon was just short of inedible. It was bland and overcooked. The vegetables tasted like they were dumped from a bag of frozen blend. My friend's food had artichokes in it and many were stringy and inedible. The bread brought initially was good and so was the house salad dressing. The other time I came, I tried the manicotti and it was okay. The house wine is not great. We ordered pickup today and I'm definitely irritated with a few things. I called in and placed my order, the young man was very friendly. I was looking on Napoli's own website at their menu and prices and ordered manicotti & fettuccine. When my husband returned, he handed me the receipt which showed a higher price than it should've been going by their own website. I called in to ask and the employee said they haven't updated their site in quite a while. Aside from being up charged on two items, I was extremely disappointed to open my container and see the 4 extremely tiny manicotti's sitting there. It wasn't worth the money unfortunately. We were also charged for using our card which stinks. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. First, I struggled really hard finding something on the menu that sounded appetizing. To no avail, I decided to just go with a simple spaghetti and meatballs. My order comes out with a huge pile of spaghetti and 2 small meatballs; I'm talking the size meatballs you buy in the bag at the grocery store. I asked my server if 2 meatballs was common and if not could I get another meatball. He responded that he wasn't sure and that I might have to pay for more meatballs, but he would check and let me know. 10-15 mins later, (after I've finished my meal btw) he comes out with a bowl of 4 meatballs. I was a bit confused because he told me he would go check and let me know. However, he came out with a whole bowl of meatballs before confirming if what I'd already received was normal and before confirming if and how much I would be charged for the extra meatballs. Since I was done with my meal (mind you 10-15 mins had passed from the time I initially asked the question to the time I saw him again and with a bowl full of meatballs) they were no longer necessary and I was full. He brings me the ticket to pay, and I see that he charged me for the meatballs. I informed him that when I made the request, he stated that he would let me know the answer to my questions, but instead he just brought the meatballs out and because they were brought out after I was finished with my meal, I was not going to pay for them. Another individual (who I assume is the manager) then comes to the table and says in a very rude way " Is there a card to go with this ticket? Yes, you WILL be paying for the meatballs." I explained to her the situation and she responds that the server is new and he didn't know any better. However, she is still going to charge me for the meatballs. I told her I did not think it was fair for me to be punished for his mistake. She then walks away, reprimands the server and then comes back to me and says she's not going to charge me because he admitted fault. I'm sorry, but in a service industry, this was done completely backwards in so many ways and when I tell you she was rude... she was RUUUUDE. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! read more

I thought that having a nice Italian meal would be a good idea, even though I have had a great time when they first opened, and it eventually became not so good as the years rolled on. One more chance I thougt...one more chance. Well, the place was packed, and I expected it to take some time, but over 10 minutes to be acknowledged by staff when entering, then having no one come over to ask for drinks for another 10 minutes, then the person never came back, then 10 more minutes and another staff member finally came to ask for drinks. It then took 10 more minutes to get them, and we finally ordered our food. All this time, another member of staff was serving the table in front of us and was the original server that never came back with our drinks. I asked repeatedly for the rolls that come with the meal and they showed up after we received our appetizer. The appetizer was good, the rolls when they finally appeared were also tasty, and then we got the soup we ordered, and no spoons. When our mains came 10 minutes later, we had to ask for the spoons and after another long wait, we received them...iced tea spoons, not soup spoons. My main was supposed to be veal, usually I have received a piece of veal, not a processed veal patty and spaghetti that looked like it was sitting under a heat lamp for a while before being served to me. The booths are not anchored down, so the people behind me who had no control of their child, spilled a soda all over their table and floor, and ended up pushing their seat back pushing me into my table. So the best part about this place was the free bread and extremely friendly waiters. But, the food overall was pretty regular. The meal started off strong with warm baked bread rolls topped with butter and herbs, and we were able to get a second serving of the free bread However, with my expectations high from the bread the salad and baked pasta I received after were nothing special. To be fair, the side salad was under $1, but it had what seemed like pizza cheese sprinkled on it, tasty I guess but a bit strange. I ordered the baked eggplant pasta which was fine, but the pasta was not baked as long as expected, and the edges were therefore not crispy. The penne pasta and tomato sauce were very regular. Interesting, a friend who ordered the kids Ziti pasta got almost the same exact dish as me - it was in the same size dish (a bit weird since we were confused what the difference between the kids and regular portions is), and the Ziti pasta shape was...penne, the same as mine lol. My family and I usually love Napoli's but this last experience that I had definitely left a sour note. Honestly, if our server had been competent it wouldn't have been so bad. After finding a hair in my meal, I let the server know. After looking at me suspiciously, she told me that she could either return my meal to the kitchen or replate it. I stared at her like she had poop on her lip because I was flummoxed. I responded that if that's the best that they could do, just return my plate to the kitchen because replating my meal wasn't going to do anything. I hate to give a very poor review based mainly on service rather than the product, but I'm going to this time. I ordered a pretty expensive order (over $80) to be delivered by Door Dash. It came right on time, but upon opening the four bags I discovered that two dessert items were missing, a canolli and a slice of tiramisu. I immediately contacted Door Dash customer support on their app. The best they could do was offer me a credit for $2.00. Problem is that the canolli and tiramisu cost almost $11. So I called Napolis to ask them if they had the items in the store. I was told yes by the lady and was told that they simply hadn't packed them with the rest of my order. Now as far as I know the dasher is supposed to check to make sure that the order is complete, but in my opinion the ultimate responsibility is on the shoulders of the person PACKING the order. The lady told me that they wouldn't provide a refund for the missing items because they were picked up by a 3rd party, so I ended up having to drive 15 miles to pick them up at the restaurant. And their excuse was lame: "it gets busy sometimes." SERIOUSLY??!! Finally, in a case such as this, as a manager I would have AT THE VERY LEAST offered a complimentary slice of tiramisu or a canolli. Nope... NOTHING! Oh yeah, one more thing... I ordered chicken marsala on linguini, they prepared and packed chicken picatta!!! I was wondering why there was a whole lemon in the middle of the pasta as well as yucky capers mixed in thru out the dish. My gosh what a screw up!! And the picatta didn't even taste too good. As for our pastas... well... In the linguine with clams, the clams weren't real ones, only substitutes. The risotto is nothing like risotto should be. It wasn't creamy rice nor was it short grain or round. The rice appeared like long grain, definitely not for typical risotto. Lastly, the calamari basically didn't taste like calamari, and didn't have the texture. On the contrary, they have a lovely space for many to dine in, including sections for private parties. The bar area is beautiful with a wall-mounted TV. There's a tiny lounge area around a faux fireplace. This review is for their Elgin location. Stay as far away as possible from this place! Horrible food, everything is frozen or supermarket, anything but "Italian home cooking". No comparison to Luigi's. The calamari was nothing but frozen rings, no actual calamari. The capellini was tasteless,, all of the pasta was. The veal parmigiana was very small and tasted like a flank steak, not veal, the cheese on the top was not fully melted and the plate was ice cold. Only thing decent was the garlic bread. After we paid for our meal and left a 20% tip, not the servers fault the food was horrible, we asked to speak to the owner, just to let him know what we thought. He was very condescending, telling my wife that capellini is nothing but olive oil and vegetables. She has traveled the world, eaten capellini the way it is supposed to be served, knew what it was before she ordered it, and more importantly how it tastes at actual Italian restaurants, being talked down to by someone selling supermarket pasta with frozen vegetables was the final straw.
