My first in person encounter with Narak's Kitchen was a few years ago during Cambodian Day in San Francisco Ca . She had samples for us to try at the event , I was overjoyed by the crunchy texture , perfectly flavored . Slap Yo Ex beef jerky had me feeling some kind of way lol!! I kept reminiscing of the time I first sank my teeth into that crispy beef jerky . ( it's not overly salty , not tough and not stringy at all ) Since then I been following Narak's Kitchen on her social media account, of course I had to try some of her other signature recipes . Ready to eat tamarind dipping sauce goes so well with fried fish and grilled chicken. Prohok krasang is another great choice fermented fish paste, pairs well with any fresh raw / steamed vegetables . Chinese sausage is lean, right balance of sweetness. Somehow it doesn't agree with my youngest children's taste buds , for me it was just okay . Let's just say I am a fan of her beef jerky. This extremely cozy two-table establishment is owned and operated by Chef Narak. She's essentially a one-woman show. I had the pleasure of meeting her and chatting with her when I visited to try her sandwiches. She was incredibly personable, friendly, and truly an inspiration. Her specialty lies in her house-made flavored beef jerky, packaged sausages, and sauces. Upon entering, you can immediately sense that her primacy business is online purchases as evidenced by all the USPS boxes scattered around. There are also bags of rice and veggie noodles available for purchase. It's more of a pick-up/grab-and-go kind of establishment. My mom really enjoyed the beef jerky. The sandwiches were tasty but they became super soggy on the way the home so I highly recommend eating the sandwiches as soon as possible. Ideally at the store at one of the two tables that they have or in your car. The sauce is very liquid-y and all make the bread soggggggy. I ordered the fish sandwich and enjoyed it despite the sogginess and sweet sauce. Chef Narak definitely does not skimp on ingredients as she packs a lot of protein in the sandwiches. The sandwiches are kind of similar to Vietnamese Banh Mis. The sauce is more on the sweeter side so if you enjoy sweet flavors, you'll love the sandwiches. The Pandan drink was also good. You can truly sense the care she puts into every product she makes. I highly recommend visiting this place and exploring all her different offerings. Definitely a hidden gem. I honestly don't know any other spot in Houston offering Cambodian crispy beef jerky, sausages, baguettes, and more like Narak's Kitchen. I also loved checking out the frozen meats and sauces they had available. So many great options to take home. You have to try the crispy beef jerky. It's incredibly crispy but packed with flavor. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's addictive. Narak's also has some of the best beef sticks I've ever had. Same amazing flavor as the jerky, but even more satisfying because the meat is thick and juicy. It's nothing like those processed snacks. You can actually taste real beef and pork, and it makes a huge difference. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. The owner was super friendly and took the time to chat with us, which made the experience even better. It really gave me those home-cooked Khmer comfort food vibes I remember growing up. Ordered the Cambodian banh mi, and it was made fresh - with quail eggs on top! Service was quick and the food here is great. Try the beef jerky if you have a chance. The parking can be difficult in this strip mall - I find that I sometimes have to park at the gas station next door, especially at mealtimes. read more

I saw that Narak's Kitchen has a new takeout menu now and immediately I was intrigued by Cambodian sandwiches! I've never heard of the concept before and the video of them I saw on social media almost made my mouth water. I was able to try their sausage sandwich and their classic beef one too. Both were a flavor bomb of spices and great crunchy textures. I think my winner though is the beef one. The meat was so tender and the lemongrass flavor really came through. I absolutely loved the addition of pickled papaya and carrots. The bread was very fresh and good quality too! If you like Vietnamese banh mi, you are sure to like the sandwiches here as well! Narak's Kitchen also sells items such as Cambodian sausage packs and beef jerky. I got to sample some of the jerky and there were so many different flavors and textures! I think my favorite was the Chinese five spice. The owner is also incredibly friendly and was telling us her cooking background and why she decided to start the business. I think she's really struck gold with these sandwiches though and I hope more Houstonians will be able to try them soon! read more

This place is owned and operated by a true Dynamo who is running around at light speed taking care of shipping out her various meat products which include Cambodian style Jerky and sausage all over the world while she whips up tasty Banh Mi type of sandwiches, specialty drinks and other items for those of us who walk in her shop. Classically trained at the Le Cordon Bleu the Chef / Owner Narak is the real deal. Limited menu, small space, but SO UNIQUE. Please don't come expecting a full menu, or a sit-down restaurant, because right now it's mainly take out with only two (or was it three) tables to munch down your sandwich. read more

I found this place on yelp when I was searching for something new in my area; I've been to the strip mall before, so I knew where it was: how'd I miss this gem? This place is to go only. I spoke with the owner, and she focuses on fresh meats and ingredients and shipping them out, so the kitchen is kind of just an afterthought; however, the food we got was very delicious, and she was very nice and helpful. We ordered the beef and pork belly sandwiches; they're very similar to a Vietnamese bahn mi, but they use papaya instead of daicon, quail eggs instead of chicken, and a spice paste with lemon grass which made the sandwiches stand out. We also got the beef sticks which were delicious and extremely flavorful and the pandan pudding drink--also delicious. We finished our visit with 2 bags of her famous meat chips and she threw in a meat stick. The spice and flavor levels are legit, but you can get milder ones too. There are samples to try so you can make up your mind. I can't believe she's been there three years! Everyone needs to go and get some Cambodian food from her now!! I ordered the : Classic Cambodian Beef Sandwich with charbroiled marinated beef, kroeng fillings, cucumber, jalapeño,cilantro,fresh pickled papaya and carrots. Braised Pork Belly Sandwich with Chinese 5 spice infused wine braised pork belly and black pepper corns, cucumber, fresh pickled papaya, carrots, soy glazed and crusted peanuts. Topped with fried quail eggs! Yoooooo!!!! These sandwiches were . They were packed with an authentic smokey flavor that cannot be faked. This is the real thing! I also ordered the beef skewers which were good enough to make you wanna slap your ex twice! I also sampled the Chinese 5 spice, Slap Ya Ex and Spicy Habanero Mango Michelada Beef Chips and took a bag of each home along with a Twa Ko Smoked Cambodian Beef Stick, Smoked Jalapeño Pepper Cheddar Pork Stick, Frozen Tea Ko Cambodian sausage and a jar of Prohok Ktis. Came here immediately after I saw a video about this place serving authentic Cambodian food, and was also incredibly intrigued about the Cambodian "banh-mi". I ordered the classic beef as well as the Cambodian sausage option, with the addition of fried quail eggs for +$1. Both sandwiches were incredibly tasty, with just the perfect bite of flavors from both the meat as well as the freshness of the shredded papaya and cilantro. I personally enjoyed the beef one more than the sausage, but I would definitely come back and try the other options as well. The restaurant/business itself is in its early development phase, and the owner was very nice and friendly. She let us sample the different assortment of beef chips that she had been selling a while before the sandwiches, and was kind enough to let us leave with a bag! You have to try the beef chips. How do you describe them? Think of potato chips but made from beef, sliced very thin, seasoned well, and then dried. Beef Jerry but thin and crispy. The owner, Sophorn, who also lives in our neighborhood, is really a pleasure to visit and can explain everything to you about the food she makes and sells at her little store and also ships. We will be returning in the near future. My wife is Vietnamese, but we both like Cambodian, Thai, and Vietnamese food. Their beef jerky chips are so yummy! I came here today and tasted all their flavors, needless to say i bought all the flavors to bring back to share with the fam.
