We were seated promptly and when my friends got here, we ordered right away because we were so hungry and did not want to wait any longer. It felt like only 5 minutes later, they started bringing out a few of our dishes and then another 5 minutes later, all 8 of our dishes were out. We were making jokes that they took our telepathically on the way to the restaurant. When they brought the food out, we all said "wow!" In unison because of how fast they were. Food was on point. Noodles were super saucy. My favorite was the sweet and sour fried fish. Fish was super crispy and I didn't expect the fish to be so huge. We definitely ordered with our stomachs that night. It's been years since I've gotten food from Tiger Noodle House (dined in & to-go). Service was good & food was prepped quick for takeout order. I used to love their dry fried Szechuan spicy sliced fish, but it doesn't hit the same anymore. Tasted dry and fish pieces were smaller than I remembered. Most recently I went with my boyfriends and got the kung pau chicken and an order of spicy beef cumin. I had a craving for some sichuan food nearby without driving to Bellaire and wanted to try Tiger noodle house. There was only 2 of us but we wanted to try everything. First up was the lover's beef app. This dish is served cold and is exactly the cold app we wanted. It is soooo nostalgic and with deep, rich flavors. It's not spicy at all but with delicious yummy chili oil and flavors. For main dishes we got, garlic eggplant, dry fried squid, sliced pork with chili, and mapo tofu. The mapo tofu and eggplant dishes stuck out. The flavors were exactly what we were looking for from these dishes. Eggplant with a thick, garlic, sweet sauce and super delicious. Mapo tofu with a great sichuan peppercorn taste and sooo good. The dry fried squid was not bad but a little underseasoned and the squid was a little chewy, probably would go for a fish instead. The flavor of the sliced pork was absolutely there but the pork itself was a little overcooked and tough to eat. Needed a spot to grab dinner fairly late and this did the trick. We were torn for apps between soup dumplings and wantons, so we got both. Neither was super special. The soup dumplings had a fair amount of soup, were nicely constructed, and didn't fall apart, which I appreciate. The spicy wantons I would have liked to have had a bit more flavor, so they were a bit of a miss. We got Kung-Pow chicken and cumin lamb. First of all, the portions are huge. The chicken was exactly what you'd expect but a skosh better. I usually regret ordering cumin lamb as the texture and flavoring is just meh, but I actually really enjoyed this version of it. The onions and other additions were a really nice balance for the meat. The prices for the dishes we got were super reasonable but some of the other dishes can certainly get up there. That being said, the food did not live up to the test. Maybe I just received a few unlucky pieces of beef in my noodle soup or they were having an off day. My beef noodle soup came out looking kind of thrown together and the beef was very tough. I am usually a pretty tolerant eater and will power through dry or tough pieces of meat, but I could not chew through the beef at all. Literally my teeth could not make a mark in the chunk of beef shank in the soup. The soup itself was a bit watery and lacked the typical garnish of pickled mustard greens. The wontons were fine--nothing to write home about but certainly no complaints. I would like to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and say that they had an off night. Or maybe they had to whip up a bowl of beef noodle soup very quickly to meet demand when beef noodle soup is a braised dish that takes hours to cook properly to ensure tenderness of the beef. There was a period of time where authentic Chinese restaurants weren't a thing in this part of Houston, but in the last 5 years an explosion of Sichuan based cuisine has found itself in all corners of the city and well beyond the loop. Tiger Noodle House has brought the heat (#1) to Rice Village and establishing a semi-legit option to the growing demand of Chinese cuisine in the loop. It feels like a huge gamble to set up shop in a place as granola and as commercialized as Rice Village, but it seems like it's paid off. They're open late and have a solid mix of authentic and Americanized dishes to appeal to most palates in the area. Considering the competition and growing Chinese contingent in the surrounding neighborhoods, it'd be safe to assume Tiger Noodle House is primed to handle it all. Overall the food has been consistent and abundant. The majority of the menu is Sichuan based but with some additional regional dishes outside of the cuisine. Their dan dan noodles have a nice kick to the oil and I was very pleased with their yuxiang eggplant as well as the cumin lamb. The winning ones were the shui zhu yu. (poached fish in hot oil) and chongqing style fried chicken. There have been some minor price increases since the pandemic, but foodflation is still minimal here. Tiger Noodle in Rice Village seemed like the perfect late-night spot. It is open until midnight, which was very tempting after my 9 p.m. dinner plans. But from the moment I walked in, something felt off. When I asked if they had Coke Zero, the server looked at me with a cold, blank stare and snapped, "No." It was not just the words, it was the complete lack of care behind them. After my Diet Coke arrived, I accidentally spilled it, and no one offered to help. Servers walked by as I sat there with a wet table, trying to clean up the mess myself. When someone finally came to wipe it down, they did so silently and ignored my apology. The meal itself was a disappointment. I ordered Mongolian chicken and, after one bite, noticed shrimp in the dish. This was terrifying, as I have a severe shrimp allergy. At that point, I did not trust the staff enough to send it back. The rice had an odd streak of black in it, and my friend's sesame chicken was equally flavorless and unappetizing. I had to get up from my table just to ask for a refill. No server ever checked on us. It seemed like no one was assigned to any table. The staff just drifted around without much attention to the diners. There are so many great places to eat in Rice Village. Sadly, Tiger Noodle is not one of them. One of my favorite cuisines is Szechuan style cooking, so I was more than happy to meet up some friends at the OG Tiger Noodle House. Located in Rice Village, parking can be tricky depending on what time you go. We came late evening so parking was not an issue at all. At first glance the restaurant looks narrow but there is plenty of seating inside. We were seated right away and had great customer service throughout with the exception of it being slightly slow. One thing I scoped out before getting there were the Tiger Beef Wraps. We took our first bites and were blown away by this dish. It was very well seasoned, thinly sliced beef, inside a flaky, scallion pancake. The addition of cilantro and green onion made for a perfect bite. Next time I'm getting my own order. We also shared Spicy Wontons. Good dish. I had some wonderful Dan Dan Noodles in Chinatown in San Francisco and am always on the hunt for something similar. I ordered them here and they did not disappoint. The minced pork, green onions and spicy sauce with the fresh noodles was delicious. It had a nice, spicy heat that snuck up on me, but not overpowering. I tried bites of my friend's dishes as well and everything I tried was good too.
