Young buyers and customers beware. Based on my experience, Nate's Automotive seems to take advantage of young customers. I spent $20,000 on a vehicle there just a year ago, and since then I've had to spend nearly another $20,000 at the same shop trying to fix ongoing coolant and overheating issues. Instead of diagnosing and resolving the underlying problem, they would repair one issue, call it fixed, and send me on my way, only for the vehicle to overheat or break down again on the drive home. I repeatedly asked them to thoroughly test drive the vehicle after repairs to make sure it was actually fixed. They assured me they had, but when I looked at the mileage listed on the repair receipts, they had often driven it only a couple of miles--not nearly far enough for the engine to reach full operating temperature. So how could they honestly say they confirmed it wasn't overheating if they never drove it long enough for the problem to occur? After all of the money I've spent and the repeated promises that the vehicle was fixed, they eventually suggested I sell it back to them, offering only $9,000 for a car I've invested nearly $40,000 into. Based on everything I've experienced, I feel like I was strung along, charged for incomplete repairs, and ultimately taken advantage of rather than treated fairly as a customer. read more

These guys shouldn't touch a car with a ten foot pole. Scam artists. Misdiagnose cars. Then when I wrote a negative review the owner messaged me on facebook 'take it down' then called my place of work twice to try to intimidate me then called my wife at home to try to haver her intervene. I will not be bullied by a shop that is not looking out for the community. I will not be shut down by harassment by the owner. Not acceptable at all. read more

Oh my gosh, this business is just incredible. Everyone I have dealt with there just goes over and above to assist. But Will especially is the best auto service tech I have ever dealt with - truly! It is very clear when I have been there several times that they very in demand. They gave me a loaner vehicle rather than make me wait a long time. Had my cars serviced here many times Nate used to work on my cars when he worked for another shop. He then found his own small place an it wasn't the biggest or best place but he made it work. Now he has a new spot and many employees. They do quality repairs and are very honest. They're comparable with a Dealership service center I'd highly recommend Nate's over the Dealership you probably won't save any money but you'll have a local shop that does amazing work. So the starter went out on my diesel and left me stranded....I can't complain, it's been the best car I've ever owned. Nate's took my car in on the day I called....not only that, they started work right away. As my luck would have it, I have a weirdo car.....the starter they ordered (standard for my 5 speed) didn't match. This took some research, calls to the dealer (no clue there) Everyone, including parts dealers were stumped....Casey discovered the starter was for a Passat, totally different model. He kept we informed with calls throughout that day and next.....granted, the repair ended up being more expensive than it should have been, but it wasn't there fault about the strange starter.....I'm just glad they had the smarts and tenacity to get the job done in less than 48 hours with no appointment. Came in here for an inspection and was treated so rudely. They totally belittled me since I did not know they work by appointment only. Never in my life, having lived in 4 different states, have I ever needed an appointment for an inspection. Even if that is how Nate's chooses to do business, they could have simply said so instead of being pretentious and rude. They didn't offer to book an appointment, suggest another day or offer anything but attitude. I could also hear mechanics or other staff joking and swearing in the repair bay when I was in there. I will def not return and will def steer anyone away from them. read more

I finally found a garage that has the feeling of back in the day, of my grandparents' generation, where they are honest, hardworking, know your name and actually wait to hear how your day is going when they ask you! They gave me a fantastic trade in offer on my old car and had a wide variety of options of vehicles for sale on their lot. AVOID Nate's. They are in over their heads. Do not go here if you want top-quality service or anything other than basic work done to your car. Not sure if they're just too busy or just don't know how to run a business, but I trusted them twice to repair my car and they failed miserably. The car immediately started making horrible noises after the "repair" and less than 5,000 miles later, the car was more broken than it was when I brought it to them the first time. They didn't care and only charged me (a lot) more to fix their mistakes, which still wasn't done correctly. The only positive things are that they do offer loaner cars (sometimes - maybe 30% chance) and are nice people, but they just aren't professional and don't hold up to their promises. A year ago, Nate's Automotive Body Shop did some work on my SHO, and about three weeks ago, I noticed that some of the paint was coming up. I brought it in, and Ed gave me a loaner car, then his team basically disassembled the rear end of the car to make sure there wasn't lingering rust damage, repainted the part that was peeling, and put it all back together perfectly, in two and a half days, all under their guarantee, and at no price to me. If you need some work done to your car look no further than Nate's Automotive! I gave them a try and I don't regret it! After a great trip to Lake George NY I thought I it was finally time to rotate my tires! So I started calling around and it seem to average $25-$30. In today's economy I wouldn't believe it. But it was a fact. My brother had pointed me to Nate's Automotive so I gave them a call! The quoted it for $10-$20 depending on the model and make of your car! More than fair. So I made an appointment. I drop my car off early in the morning. The space is a pretty good size so its easy to locate. Easy access right off of the main road. The shop it self was very clean and well kept. The customer service here is bar none an easy 5 stars. Now I know what your thinking....I'm only getting a tire change right? Well even with a simple tire rotation I felt like it was still just important to them as any big repair. This to me is the most important piece of customer service and they nailed it right on the spot! Even the owner came out to meet me. Over all I spent a whole $10 for a simple tire rotation and still got top notch customer service. They don't BS you in any way. Your treated as a client and not a customer. What more can you ask for? Best experience ever. We were in town looking at homes and broke the CV joint on our car. We immediately got that sinking feeling think we would be days to get it repaired. We called at 8:00am, they ordered the part, we went to see homes, grabbed lunch and they picked us up from the restaurant when the car was done. The price was fair. Terrible experience... don't ever go here for an inspection sticker. They are the epitome of a "slim ball" service center strictly in it to capitalize/ take advantage of their customers and pad the bill. They had no justification for not passing rotors with 36k due to rust according to VT State inspection standards and the service manager was an absolute coward about it when called on the carpet. They were dishonest and communication was extremely pour between the shop floor and front desk. When speaking to the owner he agreed that the other reason the service manager stated for failing was an error and obviously a blatant attempt to generate more service revenue for absolutely no reason other than to take advantage of an honest customer. They had a typical grease ball "used car salesman" mentality and acted as if they could care less about me. I waited 2 weeks for the appointment and was able to get a sticker on my way home for half the price after they had charged $55 for 1/2 labor and $60 for the pre inspection. I never waste my time on writing reviews like this but these people are absolute filth and I'll be sure to tell everyone I know about it. read more

My truck went into the ditch in the middle of nowhere. It's zero degress out so i call Triple A. They said the tow truck would be 40 minutes to get there. An hour and a half later they show up. A very nice state police man let me sit in his car, and offered to take me home. I said no, I'll wait for the tow because they can take me the 6 miles to my garage and I can call my cousin to pick me up. Well, this plan went out the window, the driver said he could only take me back to their garage, 30 miles away in the opposite direction. If you don't have Triple A, their policy says the tow company is to tow your vehicle wherever you want it to go. I had no alternative, as I had no phone and the policeman had left, so I ended up at an all night gas station and had to have my cousin drive 40 miles one way to pick me up. So if you need to be towed don't use these jerks. read more

I honestly don't even know how to write this review, but after all I've been through with my car this year, I felt like it was necessary. I want to like Nate's. I really do. He seems like a good guy, and Corey and Casey were both very nice to me... great customer service guys who I felt knew what they were doing. That's what I thought at the time, anyways. HOWEVER, I soon found out that the whole shop seems to run on money, not customer service... if it ran on customer service I think they would have done the right thing and stopped fixing my car, which turned out, in the end, to be virtually unfixable. Instead, they let me go ahead and keep Band-Aiding problems... and I am talking very expensive Band-Aids. All told, I spent almost $3,000 on getting my car ready for inspection... only to have it be hauled into the dealer two months later and told that it would be about $4000 with all the repairs they found. The car isn't worth much more than that, so it's essentially a loss. I think about all the trips to Nate's, finding rides to Essex to get my car, etc., and it honestly just upsets me. I do not think this is a trustworthy place to bring your car. They are not my definition of "honest mechanics". Either that, or they're just honestly not good at what they do. read more

Nate's auto is fantastic! I have had many different services done by Nate's staff over the years and have never been disappointed. One of two places in VT I bring tires to have mounted on rims. They have a great front end staff working the office and skilled mechanics. Other garages would do well to follow this model. Still the only garage I have ever been to that calls you when they are done with repair or service. read more

Great automotive team. I went in to get an estimate for repair and was given a suggestion that saved me over $1000 out of pocket expenses. These guys are very knowledgable about insurance and about working with your insurance people. I had the repair done and the job was completed in a timely manner and looked great. All guaranteed. Not only that the car was much cleaner than when I left it for repair. Within 2 months my car was hit again and I brought back for another super repair job. I am now trying to get a check engine light repaired. It seems that Nates number 1 priority is to find the least expensive route for repair and educate you along the way. My rear differential broke and this shop told me they could fix it with a carrier bearing. Well they took their sweet everloving time finding a carrier bearing and couldn't even do what they promised with it. With every phone call, it really started to sound like they had no idea what they were doing. First its this part, then its that part. Suddenly they say its better for them to completely rebuild the axle which everybody else and their sister recommended I not do because its cheaper and safer to buy a new axle at this point. Yeah and they wanted another $800 for this --- but you can buy a complete dana 35 axle for about $300. On top of the $352 for the "work" they did to "fix" the broken axle. They simply took apart the axle and failed to put it back together. They got really angry when I said I was towing the jeep outta there and was not going to let them rebuild the axle. I had to tow my jeep with a rear axle in pieces! Nate even threatened to put a lien on the car because he knew I wasn't going to pay for such a terrible experience so I was forced into paying them $352 for failing to put in a new carrier bearing. On top of all this, they damaged the paint on both mirrors and charged my credit card twice for a total over $700. Complete scam and what awful customer service. I waited to write this review because I did not trust these spiteful people to mess around with my credit card information if they saw a scathing yelp review. read more

I am from out of town and did not know about the tint laws in Vermont. I find it very poor of nates automotive staff and certainly question there integrity. Why would I be charged for a failed inspection when it was obvious to them that I wouldn't pass do to tint immediately seeing they know the tint law which I did not. So they charged me $35 for nothing with already knowing my car would fail do to tint. so imagine how else they could be taking advantage of there customers. read more
